We tried it for the first time last week for take out. Food was so good. We will order again!

Food is always made fresh, lady is extremely nice, always friendly and welcoming. The crab rangoons are good.

What can I say - I've been going to Taste of china since the beginning when I was 5 with my parents. They've moved locations from Main Street EG to another spot to now here where they've been for years. Mindy and family are a staple to this establishment. We live 2,500 miles away now and no matter how long or short the stay is in Rhode Island - it's always on our list to go without fail. Chinese like this is hard to come by - it's the real deal Americanized Chinese food we all dream about and seldom find - it's the place we use to compare any place we go wherever we are in the country. Nowhere ever comes close - when you're craving Chinese this is the Chinese you want. read more

Went here for first time and had off -menu soup- chicken tang mein because I had seen that it was a winner-that was no lie. Noodles tasted homemade + perfectly cooked, as were fresh vegetables. Broth was fragrant, & chicken perfectly velveted. Great dish if you have cold or flu. I saw too late that you can also Oder it with other proteins: I will try beef tang mein next time. Chili sauce is available so ask for some. Partner enjoyed his sweet and sour shrimp. Note that it is deep-fried shrimp with just rice and sauce on the side. Shrimp tasted fresh. Fried pork dumplings were also very nicely seasoned -subtle hit of ginger. Afraid I can't recommend egg rolls -no protein that I could detect. Just cabbage & sprouts (?) in small wrap. For those who care about service & facility= accommodating & quick service. Very clean with booth seating. Plenty of parking. read more

Owner could be a little mor accommodating. Asked if I could get cow mein instead of fried rice she said oh no very busy. This was 1pm on the eve of New Year's 2025-2026. I was willing to pay upcharge. Won't go back there again. Left her 2 ** on my napkin. Never came to our table to see if food was ok. Poor service. read more

It is difficult to write a negative review for any business, but especially one that you have chosen as your go-to for many years. We depend upon the opinions of others when making our choices for so many things... we have to these days! The past 3 times we have ordered from Taste of China have NOT been a good experience; the food has been less than quality and certainly HAD to be noticeable by whomever cooked/prepared it - and whomever packaged it. Our pupu platter items were ALL so deeply fried that such were like ROCKS. There was not one portion that we could eat or enjoy. Nada. None. The beef Lomein (sp) had, and I did count, 3 peapods, a few carrots, 3 strips of peppers and that was it. The general tsaos was tasty as it most often is, but was packed so poorly that it had leaked into the bag over other things and, well, that was a mess. We are sad to have to make the choice NOT to order from Taste of China from hereon. We will miss the friendly owners and the quiet enjoyed when we eat inside, rather than take-out at home. Something/someone is askew here and I DO feel we've given a good effort hoping things might change. Sincerely, Mary - WK, Rhode Island read more

Overall good Chinese takeout. Always piping hot. Portions seem a little smaller post Covid though. Teriyaki beef is always tender as are the bbq boneless spare ribs. Wonton soup is very good. My only disappointment is the crab rangoons. There was barely a trace of filling in them. This is the second time this has happened to us. While it won't stop us from visiting we just won't order them again which is unfortunate because they used to be our favorite rangoons. read more

Best homestyle tofu we have ever had. Everything is always so fresh. Our all time favorite Chinese restaurant. The service is friendly, very sweet family. Highly recommend. read more

Food quality is pretty good, pretty much on-par. Owners are quite friendly. Portion sizes are nice and huge! I was quite interested to see the full bar and beer selection inside. My one complaint was the small size of the eggrolls. I am definitely going to have to order from here again. read more

Good Chinese takeout place overall. Noodles and chicken are great. Recently, the Crab Rangoon has been lacking in filling. They used to be better. read more

Considering that there is a huge lack of good restaurants in North Kingstown, this Chinese restaurant is an example of how one should operate. Being in North Kingstown definitely has its pluses and minuses. A big minus is the fact that I have a hard time finding places to eat. My fiancee and I were in the mood for Chinese, but Seven Moons has been less than spectacular lately, and Kon has been getting a bit stale. Enter Taste of China. The first time I called here, I could barely understand the woman on the phone. I placed an order for Gen Tsos combo, and a sweet and sour chicken combo. I had asked to swap the fried rice in the S&S chix for chicken lo-mein and she found no problem doing so. I was very happy with this seeing how other Chinese restaurants will not substitute. Anyway, she tells me 15 minutes. I hop in the car, drive over, and walk in. The restaurant is pretty spacious, and they actually could add more tables if they wanted to. I walk to the counter where I was greeted promptly. They leave out condiments on the counter, so you can grab as many as you need. Awesome! I was in and out in 3 minutes. I get home and open my bag to find everything as promised. The food was super hot, so I know it just got cooked. The general's chicken was delicious and a little different than other places I've had it. The rice was fresh and delicious. The sweet and sour chicken was big and plump. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the amount of soy sauce on the lo-mein. Don't get me wrong, it is really good, but when you finish eating, it leaves a very salty taste in your mouth. Intend on drinking lots of fluids afterward. Eating there, it appears that they haven't gotten a bar set up yet, but I did see some patrons drinking beers, so that is a good sign. Needless to say, I was very impressed by this restaurant, and I will definitely order again, and already have. I actually crave this place! read more

The best Chinese I've had in a VERY long time. I'm particular when it comes to Chinese and Taste of China exceeded my expectations. We had to drive quite a bit to get there, but once we met Rob at the bar it was all worth it. Service was excellent, food was better and the owners even came out to interact with us and ask about our experience. I will definitely be going back. read more

Taste of China - Scorpion bowls - Chinese Near Me - Exeter, Rhode Island

Consistently delicious food, and one of the best Scorpion Bowls I have ever had! The owner is super nice and accommodating. We have been getting takeout here once a week for the past 4 years! read more

I really want to like this place. The owners are very nice and from NYC Chinatown. Food is tasty and they will serve, if given advanced notice, more authentic Chinese dishes for special occasions. Reasons why I am disappointed: Take out time is always late. late by 40-1hr. Just a couple orders, it shouldn't take that long and if it does you need to tell the customer when they are ordering. They don't serve any eggplant dishes or pan friend noodle dishes. Which is generally my go to for "American Chinese" They do have a really good dumpling sauce but that's about it. read more

I've been coming here since they moved from there location in North Kingstown. Over that time I've tried most of the items on the menu and haven't been disappointed yet. As far as Chinese food goes in the area they are definitely the top spot! The owners are very nice and always very accommodating. The inside of the restaurant is very clean. I especially like the #13 which has shrimp, pork, chicken, beef and vegetables with crunchy fired noodles. Overall, everything is very fresh and tasty. If your in a rush takeout is always an option! read more

Like some of the other reviewers, i've visited Taste of China for lunches and take-outs over the years when they were in North Kingstown and now in Exeter. The owners are friendly and personable and i've seen their children grow up from babies to teenagers! The food is typical American Chinese fare, nothing super special, but IMO it is a little better than most of this type: the wonton soup has a good broth, the Tung Ting Lake shrimp is reasonably good, and our kids enjoy their chicken lo mein and pork fried rice. A reliable staple for Chinese take-out whenever you're too tired to cook or too busy. However, what makes it special to me - other than nostalgia and loyalty - is their off-menu items; they're sometimes willing to make special requests for you. In particular, they have a great off-menu noodle soup dish: Chicken Tang Mein (also can make with shrimp, beef, etc). This alone is worth the visit! Big, hot, brimming bowl full of flavorful broth, a generous amount of sliced vegetables, noodles, and tender chicken breast. Garnish this with hot pepper oil (layou) to your taste (I happen to like a lot) and this becomes a heavenly fiery and filling meal. A bowl of this on a cold winter's day will give you plenty of cheer! I always need extra napkins to tuck into my shirt, otherwise it will become covered with soup stains. read more

Make sure to go on an empty stomach, the proportions are Huge!! This place was great. Reasonably priced, with huge yummy proportions. I wish I could say they had tons of authentic dishes, but they seem to be lacking in that category. Overall, between the very friendly fast service, huge ass plates, and the overall good food I'm quite looking forward to returning to Taste of China. read more

We love taste of China! The woman is so friendly in person and seems to remember me (doesn't seem it on the phone, but she's just in a rush.) The egg rolls, garlic chicken, Kung pao chicken, lo mein, orange chicken are all delicious. Takeout usually takes about a half hour for us, and it's worth the wait! read more

Amazing food, great owners. Always FRESH!!!! I live in East Providence now and I will never go anywhere else but here! It's worth the 40 min drive. read more

I'm so thankful this place opened up as I live down the street. It's by far the best Chinese food I've ever had and I've lived in cities with Chinatowns. The owner is sweet. The portions are huge and the food is fresh, it has no msg, and it's delicious! They just recently got their liquor license, so I encourage people to go and dine in! If you have a hankering for Chinese and you're in South County - this is the place to go! read more

Spacious enough space for a Chinese restaurant. There's even a bar area. Food tastes just like any other Chinese food. Waitress is very friendly and helpful. She'll talk to you like you're an old friend, though it's hard to understand at times because of her heavy accent. I tried to order Shrimp with Lobster Sauce. She said it doesn't come with any veggies so she recommended instead the Shrimp with Mixed Vegetables. I'm glad she did coz I'm a veggie lover! They put a lot of fried rice in my container though. More rice than shrimp and veggies. read more

I'm not a huge Chinese food fan - prefer Thai - but the food here is delicious and so fresh! I ordered the vegetable chow main and it was out of this world...highly recommend. read more

Not good. Ordered at 5pm. Two hour wait. Not the end of the world since it was New Years Eve. Showed up at 715. Guy says not ready, 20 more minutes. 30 mins later I ask about it. Not ready. All the guy says is "nothing I can do". There's 6-8 more people waiting for their orders that were well overdue. It came out at 8pm! 8pm! 3 hours for a $50 Chinese food order. Never again. This place needs new management. read more

First, and last, time ordering from here. They said it would be an hour (I've never heard of a Chinese restaurant saying an hour!). When my husband arrived, 50 minutes later, they said they didn't have beef for the beef and broccoli we ordered. What they DID have was our phone number... so why did they wait until he got there to tell him they ran out of our order? He had to wait another 30 minutes for the food to be ready. The food was "eh" - not the worst, but definitely not worth the wait or the hassle. Not impressed by this now 2-hour ordeal and won't be returning. read more

I had not been in the area for a few years, but have been back the last few months and stopped in today for lunch. I had the Shrimp and Lobster Sauce lunch special and it was the biggest portion I have ever had for a lunch special. what was even better than that was the taste, it was one of the best I have ever had. I eat at a lot of Chinese restaurants so I appreciate a good restaurant when I find one. I will surely be back again. read more

I've been coming here for at least 10-12 years now. No Chinese place will ever compare. The owners are kind, and very honest people. I am greeted with a huge hug each time I'm in! The crab rangoons are the very best! She makes them at the bar when she is not taking care of customers. They come out perfect and steaming hot every time. Hot and sour soup is a must as well as the chicken and garlic sauce (My usual) The green beans with garlic sauce are absolutely the best you will ever have! The new location is clean, more spacious, and most importantly has a full bar! Service is always fast and friendly. The owners love to talk and get to know you! I am a life long customer! read more

We used to go to the one in NK now it's here in Exeter and we are so excited! We love it! The owner is so nice to she's just the sweetest she calls us her friends and even remembers my grandmas name. I told her I loved her tea and she gave me a bunch of tea bags to take home for free. Plus The food is amazing. read more

Food is okay, kind of meh. The real issue is that they're almost always understaffed, and in turn I'm almost always asked to wait additional time for the takeout (I'm not talking 10 minutes to extra, I mean like 30 minutes +). Not bad, but I definitely wouldn't pick them over other Chinese places in the area. read more

Great food. Best Chinese in the area. And Robyn. It's great portions not proportions!

The restaurant was clean, it took some time before someone came to our table to give a menu even though no one was in the restaurant. Once someone finally came to take our order I chose the Generals chicken. The food had a nice presentation but was lacking quality, the chicken was very low quility, chewey and stringy like. The sauce had a heavy vinegar taste. We just moved to the area and were quite disappointed. read more

Delicious wonton soup. The dumplings are quite good, as is the sesame chicken, pork fried rice and beef teriyaki. Their lo mein, however, is too salty and bland -having tried their chicken, pork and shrimp. read more

Very good quality Chinese food. Everything I have had here has been flavorful and well proportioned (think meat:veggie:starch ratio) This is the place to go if you want something other than the greasy, only good when you're drunk meal that normally happens with Chinese food. The portions are very large when you dine in the restaurant (I have never gotten take-out to know if they match in size). My only complaint has been their timing. Each experience I had there consisted of everyone's plates coming out at different times, as if they only had one pan to cook every dish in. We even asked for extra side dishes to share the meals that did make it out with those who didn't have theirs yet. This happened with me and only one other guest as well as a group. Also I don't think they have duck sauce?? Either way, this is my go-to Chinese restaurant despite living much closer to half a dozen other proprietors. read more

Some of the absolute worst Chinese I've ever had. This place should take into consideration quality because it all tastes extremely dried out and old, will NEVER visit again! read more

Very hungry, I decided to try this place out. Food was bland. My chow main came with a tiny bag of stale noodle chips, which I had to blend in with the chicken and veggies and were supposed to get soft but never did. I asked the server why the menu does not state the ingredients of each item but she could not give me an answer. I left disappointed and hungrier than before. read more

Clean atmosphere, nice staff Food left a LOT to be desired Threw most of our $40 meal of typical Chinese apps (beef teriyaki, crab Rangoon, chic fingers, boneless spareribs) in the trash, General Tso's chicken--- weird consistency of mush and rubbery bounce..... prob wasn't chicken :-( Only added a star because the staff was nice read more

Meh. I've experienced better. The inside dining is very nice and simple, good atmosphere and bar to drink at if you wish. The staff is polite and prompt. The issue is the food, the chicken came in a huge portion (+), but the chicken was 90% breading for my General TSO's (-). The egg roll was the size of a roll of dimes (-). The sauce was very good (+). The Wonton soup was ok. Overall it wasn't amazing food, but wasn't the worst either. I would possibly go back to try a different lunch special, but not for a while. read more

Only if your desperate. First, this place takes much longer than most Chinese food I've gotten. Not sure how they're using that extra time, but it isn't on the food. I've eaten here three times and each time the Chinese food tasted like it had been refried or reheated. Like I said, only if you're desperate for Chinese would I eat here. read more
