My wife and I went to dinner there yesterday. After we finished dinner we stacked our plates up. After TWENTY FIVE minutes they took our plates and it wasn't even busy!! Don't order the mac and cheese! I thought that Taste Budd's had a great mac and cheese, but today I found out was wrong! Very Wrong! It came out looking worse then cafeteria food. I could tell it was taken out of a serving dish wih it rectangular form. The 7 yr old that I got it for seem a little uneasy about the food. After she had picked all the mac out I took a taste to see what it tasted like. The texture was rubbery and plastic feeling. The cheese was like a blend of swiss and some other cheese you wouldn't normally put in mac and cheese. Also by the taste you could tell it was microwaved and by the looks of it it was burned in some places and cold in others. After, I got the girl a nice simple yummy PB and J which I knew they couldn't possibly mess up. read more

My favorite Dutchess County lunch spot! The food is great. They have excellent coffee. You can get fun desserts/candies, too! Try their cookie bars (the vegan chipper is especially good, and I'm certainly not anything close to a vegan!) I especially love it in the summer because they have a nice, sunny outdoor seating area. I always stop here during Tivoli yard sale day :) The avocado melt is my favorite! I get it every time haha. The service is usually quite friendly and willing to wait while you read the chalkboard menu behind the counter. If you stop during college season be prepared for a massive crowd of Bard hipster kids due to the free Wi-Fi and good coffee. There also tend to be rowdy little kids because of their coloring area. My sister lives on the same road Taste Budds is on so we hoped on over when I visited her. Nice comfy place. Little area for live music. Place has great vibes with books of all kind of genres on the wall of the waiting area. Had a quesadilla special. Just didn't know it had goat cheese in it so I got a little bit sick on the way back. the reason for my existence i believe is to enjoying drinking good coffee, they have pretty good coffee. i wouldn't say its my favourite, but it's not terrible, also i have high standards. i knew nothing about this place except my best friend was showing some of her art here and i had traveled all the way across new york to support her! the place had good vibes, my friends ordered food and they look satisfied with there sandwiches, maybe i should've done a Q&A to get the real facts. but i heard no complaints! as apart of the art showing there was food provided. there was cheesecake and cookies and coffee and i just kept eating and drinking and eating and drinking and.... i think i forgot where i was going here. all in all this place is super comfortable, they have a patio and an outdoor area! if i ever find my way in red hook ever again i'll definite grab a cup! read more

I went during the lunch rush, which wasn't the best idea. The service was a bit slow, but the server who brought my goblin goat was apologetic about the wait and very kind. All of the staff was smiling and looked like they were having a good time, despite the rush. My iced tea was handed to me right as I paid and my goblin goat was exactly as I ordered, not a lot of turkey, extra everything else. The inside was nice and hot, while the ciabatta bread was perfectly crunchy. It filled me right up It is a little pricey, but for all the choices and substitutions they have, its understandable. They have such a large variety of everything from desserts to drinks to sandwiches, they even have fudge! I can't wait to go there again and try one of their weekly speacials! read more

If I had to describe Taste Budds in three words, they would be "Tasty but Pricey". Taste Budds is the premier hangout and off-campus study space for Bard College students. They also have cool local artists come in and sing on certain afternoons (although they have a really hard time getting the academic hipster crowd to applaud.) Sandwiches and pastries are good. Smoothies are kind of mediocre. I'm particularly a fan of their tiramisu and of their Mozza Mato Melt Panini. Service is friendly and fairly quick for a cafe, and there are lots of comfy couches to sit on while you wait for your food. One star deducted because it's a bit overpriced. However, if you come here often and are looking to offset the cost a little bit, I highly recommend the text rewards program. You can get anything from a discount on coffee or panini to free fudge. Overall, it's a nice little cafe. read more

I am a local and I've tried to like it here, but they make it so hard. To my palate, the coffee is very weak and flavorless. I've given up. The food is very good and pastries are excellent, but the service is so bad it's painful. No cafe worth their salt should take almost an hour to serve lunch at the rush. Some of the kids working there could care less , and are poorly trained and managed. read more

Taste Budd's Café is a wonderful place to eat, meet with friends, and listen to live music. The menu is varied and has something for everyone. I enjoy a variety of their sandwiches, salads, and wraps, but I have to admit that their desserts are my favorite. The "triple chipper" (warmed up) never disappoints! The staff is friendly, quick, and courteous. I enjoy the changing displays by local artists, and I never miss their open mic every Thursday night. I feel really fortunate to live in Red Hook and that I get to frequent Taste Budd's, on average, a couple of times a week. We've been frequenting Taste Budd's for a few years now and have always enjoyed our experience. Food, drinks and service have always been outstanding. The staff has always been enthusiastic and happy to see us! Very helpful and knowledgeable regarding specialty drinks, etc.. Unfortunately, that staff no longer exists. Since new staff has taken the place of our older and friendlier staffs' place, we don't feel as welcome as in the past. I came up to Red Hook with my family to just walk around. We stumbled into Taste Budd's and had some food and beverages. Everything was great! But here's what blew me away....they had a whole section of vinyl records for sale. I've been collecting since I'm a kid, so this was right up my alley. I was taken back by the variety as well. I've been going to this cafe for 3 years pretty regularly, and I am regularly underwhelmed. The coffee, muffins, and wifi are fine, and they are the only cafe in a town with a small college that opens before 11am so there is almost no competition (and no reason to improve). The baked goods are really hit or miss - macarons are lovely, but I've stopped trying cookies and bars, which often feel and taste like bricks. I tried a cinnamon roll once that was so dry that it could've been found behind some furniture from a year ago. I couldn't choke it down even with coffee, and the frosting came off in a big white shell. How do you mess up a cinnamon roll? The eggs have the rubbery texture of being microwaved, so I've learned to avoid breakfast items that contain eggs. But the coffee and the wifi are fine, and it's the only place open in the morning in town, so it will continue to be mediocre and I will continue to go there. read more

I like this place because there is a lot to choose from and the hours are good. However, I feel like for a healthier leaning establishment they use a lot of poorer quality ingredients - like syrups in the smoothies...why? WHY?!?! I love Tastebuds! As an international student I love the experience of a unique and quality American coffee house and as a Bard College student I love the experience of Tastebuds, a place off campus to go and study. It's very comforting and cosy and chill. It's very easy to just relax on a sofa, put your feet up, drink very good coffee, and read a book for a few hours. Tastebuds is a chocolate shop primarily and so the chocolate is great as well as the coffee. For Valentines day they sold luxury passionfruit and raspberry chocolates which were amazing. There is often music on Saturday afternoons. Staff are friendly and helpful. There are a large variety of beverages to choose from and the desserts are wonderful, if sometimes a little rich. A very special place in the Red Hook community..a great place to relax and unwind in an informal and cosy spot. read more

Every time I've placed an order, whether over the phone or in person, they invariably mess something up. From leaving the "B" off my BLT to charging me for a soup that never made it into my bag, the only thing consistent at Taste Budd's is inconsistency. Management needs to find a way to at least make up for their countless errors, whether it's a free coffee or a smaill piece of fudge, give your staff the tools to show some good customer service. Mistakes happen, but if I had punch on my coffee card for every time my order was incorrect, I would be receiving free coffee for the rest of my life. Step it up Taste Budd's! read more

Taste Budd's was always a good standby in the Red Hook area where I work. If I didn't know what I wanted, they usually had something that was tasty and would satisfy me for lunch, but not so much anymore. Last week I ordered their special Parisian melt, a ham with brie on a toasted croissant. Sounded great... somehow they managed to burn the croissant while not melting the brie one bit. The sandwich looked like it was put together by a 5-year old and then smooshed in the smallest box they could find. Not what one expects for a $8 sandwich. I was disappointed, but it wasn't a dealbreaker. As it's one of the only games in town on a Monday, I went back today and got the "pick two" combo I often get, with curry chicken salad and mac+cheese (my regular), advertised on the board at $7.89. I noticed that it rang up at $9.89 on the register, so I asked. The girl told me she was new, but she would find out. Come to find out that sometimes the price varies based on what you pick, but it says you can pick a salad and soup or mac+cheese for $7.89... no mention of prices varying (the curry chicken salad is marginally more expensive by itself than other salads, but not enough to warrant a $2 price difference from what is advertised). Instead of offering me the lower price (i.e., the one they had advertised), they just gave me attitude. I didn't have much choice, as I was already there and there isn't much else for lunch in town on Mondays, but I certainly will make a point of letting folks know they falsely advertise their prices, so watch your receipts when you are there. read more
