Went into this place and ordered 2 cappuccino, a piece of cherry pie, and a piece of their seasonal citrus cheesecake. Everything was good but the pie and cheesecake didn't taste too fresh. The frosting on top of the cheesecake tasted better than the cheesecake itself. The cake itself lacked that cheesecake flavor. Staff was super friendly though. Bread Alone has been my favorite bread for years and YEARS! Not very many days go by that I don't have a slice or sometimes two of one of the Bread Alone varieties. I used to love the loaf called Catskill the best. In the past year I've had more and more trouble finding it in the store. The grocery employees kept saying it was not selling. I called Bread Alone and they were not very helpful. On the website I noticed the Catskill was removed and it said no information about the product. I took photos of my last breakfast of the sliced bread that I still miss. Since then I enjoy many of their other options. I've been fortunate that I have found it in my Health Food Store and my local grocery store. They also have a stand at various Farmers Markets that I visit. Funny thing they charge more per loaf at the Farmers Market! Bread Alone is organic and has very little ingredients. There's no added sugar! I buy a loaf of each type and wrap the slices to freeze. I love a slice with butter and cinnamon, almond butter, and especially Peanut Butter. Bread Alone is good for sandwiches too. Most importantly Bread Alone is a New York State Bakery. Meh! That's still the best I can come up with. I've been (reluctantly) coming in here for over 10 years, usually at the insistence of a friend or two, or when I couldn't grab a good baguette, or lunch elsewhere. Coffee, just ok --the fancier varieties, as with the desserts, pies, sweets in general, are mostly overpriced and undersized. Menu food (soups, salads, burgers, and eggs of all kinds) is hit or miss; however, often, sitting in the back is much calmer than dealing with the chaos up in front and the laughable employees behind the counter. Boy, are they a sight for the eyes! Another customer reviewed their experience regarding Bread Alone's ambiance as being reminiscent of the cafeteria at the Bronx Zoo! HA - I can see their point. I'm giving 2 stars here because their Hungarian Mushroom soup is fantastic. I have no idea if they still serve it though....probably not. read more

So I came to visit the popular &beautiful bread alone Café. The ambience and customer service are great. I just made the mistake of maybe getting the same thing I got last time without knowing I got a hot chocolate which taste like a Swiss miss packet with hot water (I ordered it with almond milk). To get a 12 ounce hot chocolate as you see in the picture this is how full it was. I took two small sips because it was hot. It should've been filled more to the top. And I got a chocolate vegan loaf, which was kind of tasteless very crummy and I would not want to get it again. But I have had their salmon and lox toasted bagel, which was very good. I would definitely get that again. Surprisingly, I went back to the counter and asked the gentleman that bag my items which he wasn't wearing gloves, but both my pastries were put in the bag with no parchment paper or napkins. So I don't know I've never seen that before personally myself 2bakery items in a bag with nothing covering it- it felt really weird to me . Thank you for your great customer service and beautiful cafe. Because you're so busy please make sure the tables are wiped down more often. read more

Service was so upbeat, friendly and polite, really felt valued as a customer and always great to see people enjoy their work. So for the food, so glad outside of bread and coffee they got whole deal, so many artisan pastries to choose from like muffins, danishes and cheesecake. My hot chocolate was rich and creamy and my muffin and canele which I never heard of before were delicious. The building itself is beautiful with plenty of sunlight shining in and so spacious and clean dining area, to unwind to break bread. read more

Absolutely wonderful place. We've been there several times and we absolutely love it. We wish they would come and open some locations in Westchester. Food is terrific, service is fantastic and so wonderful to have healthy but flavorful options. The only suggestion would be to lower the prices and raise the portion sizes. Honestly I've loved this place forever, but I went yesterday and had the pork sandwich (their menu is typically seasonal so it changes a few times a year and I hadn't had this yet) and WOW. Truly one of the best sandwiches I've had in a long time. Fresh baguette toasted just enough, delicious pork, havarti cheese, and this incredible aioli with pickles. I cannot even tell you how great this sandwich was. Everyone was super nice as always, and it was crowded because of the holiday season, but that's to be expected. I did not have high expectations coming here since I am not a huge fan of chain establishments, but I was really impressed with my experience here this morning. Service was friendly and speedy. They also have a ton of seating in the front, back and outdoors. The coffee was from Iriving Farms and the menu for food was extremely varied. We tried the egg and cheese and it tasted like a fresh fried egg. My only complaint was the bread didn't taste great, which was ironic with this place being called "Bread Alone." I have a feeling that my experience may have been better if I visited earlier in the day when items were baked fresh or if I had gotten breakfast or lunch. We got a chocolate chip cookie and an almond croissant, both of which were decent, but not great with regards to recipe. The chocolate chip cookie was nothing to write home about, as I've had much better. The almond croissant had lost it's flakiness by midday and was similarly underwhelming. They are about $8 which is a bit on the pricier side, but not unreasonable. I might return in the future, but will stick to breads & food items which seem to get rave reviews. read more

I really enjoy the food and most of the staff at Bread Alone, however, get over yourself and get back to a table service restaurant. Ordering in a giant line and having to find a shitty seat with no table service is a terrible customer experience. Also still serving coffee in paper cups..............L A Z Y.
