    BIG RED

Perusing restaurant menus in Woodstock, and you notice trends. Same food, or types of food at most places. Kale Caesar seems to be on top of the hit parade; not by popular demand in my book. One thing we did see on Alba's menu, (and nowhere else), was "Pupusa". Caught my wife's eye, so she read up on this place. Fantastic story, and worth the read by the way ! We stopped in on Labor Day, for lunch. It's located down a ways, from the busy part of Tinker Street, and resembles a small home rather than a restaurant. It's small inside, with about 10 tables, but we had no problem getting seated. The lunch menu was ample, and we ordered a bunch of stuff. First off..."Pupusas" Both flavors (See picture for details) Tomato Soup, Pulled Pork Sandwich and Turkey Club. Everything was great. From the Soup, the great bread on The Club, the thick hot bacon that topped my Pulled Pork...But the MVP of lunch; Pupusas. We should have just ordered that {with the Soup} I noticed a huge pizza oven in the back. We'll have to go back when they fire up "Big Red"

During our visit to Woodstock we chose this restaurant. We immediately liked the atmosphere and the waitress's attitude towards us. We ordered barbecue wings, tomato soup, steak burger and pancakes. Everything was fresh and tasty. We had only positive emotions after visiting this restaurant.

This place was amazing just enough out of town you can actually park your car and get a table without waiting. There is a tiny pub/ bar area and a far size dining area. The wine was a nice size pour. We were waited on my the owner who could not have been any friendlier, she even shared some trade secrets with us to explain how the shrimp risotto was so deliciously creamy. By far the best I have ever had it came with grilled shrimp. We got the eggplant rotini stuffed with goat cheese and pesto these were so good and as an appetizer it was actually large enough to be a meal. We got a salad which was a very generous portion. The pepperoni pizza was so crispy and cooked perfectly. The! BLT was very good the bacon was just how we liked it crispy . Everyone was very efficient and welcoming

I came for the avocado toast and woman-owned business. 6 months later, this is my regular go-to. Chicken Soup, Arugula Salad, Salmon. Nothing on the menu dissapoints. A locals lowkey favorite spot, in a house with full parking and a movie theatre next door. How we leave... every.single.time. Get you some!

Homey vibe on every level (welcoming & personal service, house made everything, in an actual house lol). Located on the west most end of Tinker street, worth the 5 minute walk from the busier part of town (note - plenty of parking in their lot right out front) Reasonable prices and truly delicious food, much of it made in a wood fire oven you can see from your table. We were served by Alba herself, so you know it's real home cooking! As other reviews have mentioned- this is Italian cuisine with some Latin influence options (family is de Guatemala) A tad warm inside on these hotter days, but once you sit the temp balances and you're grateful for not being cold. 10/10!

While this Guatemalan family isn't Italian, the owner herself, has acquired plenty experience and is now cooking her own version of Italian fare. Not for nothing, I felt a bit reluctant when hubs suggested we try Alba's for a Thursday dinner. And the slight whiff of corn masa smell in the air when we walked in, added more uneasiness and wished their Italian-inspired meals didn't have Latin flavors. Taking over the now closed, Woodstock Pizza Theater on Tinker St in Woodstock, Alba's slid right in. It has a smallish bar off to the left and their dining room on right running straight to the back with their pizza oven as a centerpiece. For now, these folks are serving beer and wine. I decided on a glass of Ruffino Pinot Grigio and hubs did a Guatemalan Famosa beer and said it has the quality of a regular beer. Each of our Caesar and Arugula salads were plentiful and could've been a meal by themselves because they were hefty. Hubs' was mixed well with enough croutons. Anchovies could've taken this simple Caesar to the 10th power. My Arugula had freshly sliced strawberries and fresh pecans and subbed regular balsamic+oil instead of the suggested Dijon dressing. Hubs' pasta primavera was a full meal in a bowl and nicely done with butter, garlic flavor and lots of veggies-then added grilled shrimp to his dish. My eggplant parmigiana was generous on top of linguine. The sauce these folks use is more on the seasony side and one I always tried to run away from as I love an only-tomato sauce sans herbs. It's more out of preference- but my dish was good as it was and the sauce held its own- thank goodness it wasn't runny! Service was pleasant and the dollar amount, fantastic. These folks aren't messing around and, they're somehow catering to the Woodstock energy in their own way.

We were on on our weekend fall trip at Woodstock and came across Alba's kitchen. It was a great find!! Delicious food, cozy ambiance and the service was great. Very friendly staff. Highly recommended.

    Pulled pork sandwich with bacon

The food was excellent and the service was very good at Alba's Kitchen. The ambiance was fine, though it has the feel of a nice diner. It was very crowded when we went as the food is delicious. We ordered the eggplant rollatini, a Ruben and pulled pork sandwich with bacon... all very tasty and piping hot. We would definitely return to this restaurant!

Homey feel - just the way we like it

Definitely off the beaten path of downtown Woodstock, but absolutely worth the walk. Perfect black bean soup as a warmup, followed by a delicious huge hamburger My wife had the quesadilla and she completely stopped speaking while she enjoyed it. she couldn't make her up her mind which condiment was better: the pico de gallo, guacamole, and sour cream - just kept smiling while she finished it. Don't get up to Woodstock that often but next time we do, this looks a lot like our next lunch

My server True, was very nice and she took very good care of me. When you sit down, they give you their regular menu, but then, they also bring a chalkboard of their specials, right to your table. I decided to go with the pasta marinara with the Un-meatballs. To drink, I ordered a ginger ale. That "ginger ale" was a full on ginger beer. It definitely had the ginger "kick" to it, it was very, very good. My food comes, and it is a huge portion. It came with a nice sized side salad, the lettuce was beautifully, crisp, and I'm not sure what the dressing was, but it was delicious, and it, was dressed just right. Not over, not under. It also came with a garlic bread with a "vegan butter" very well done. The main course, was also very very good. The pasta was perfectly Al dente, and the marinara was very good. It had a rich flavor. The Un-meatballs, I could tell that the texture was a little bit different, but they were 100% delicious. Seasoned oh so very well. If I didn't know, I might have thought they were the "real thing" . The only reason I'm taking away a half a star, was the meatballs were just a little bit cool in the middle. Not enough that they took away from the flavor, but enough that I did notice it. Not worth sending back. Maybe they should double check the meatballs with a thermometer. I took some of my pasta in a to go container, and was about to get my check, but then True asked me if I wanted dessert. The "Apple crumble à la mode" caught my eye. I asked her what they used for the "ice cream" and she said it was a cashew based dessert. Curiosity piqued, I decided to go for it. Wow! A total Home run. The apples were not over sweet, and just had a tiny bit of a " bite" to them. Just right. There was a granola topping, and that "ice cream?" it had a softer consistency, but other than that, it tasted just like the real thing. I would gladly plop down in front of my TV with a giant bowl of that stuff. I jokingly asked True, "are you sure you didn't slip me a scoop of the real stuff?" it was that good... The Price for everything was a bit on the high end, but for the quantity and quality, very reasonable. I will come back. Thank you.

Keep going...we were wondering if we were in the wrong place but the place is in the back! The vibes are warm, rustic, hunting cabin type with wood tables, wood stacked decoratively on the walls and antler type light fixtures. We sat at a table by the wood-fired oven and we loved it. That smoky wood fireplace smell We started with drinks, the guys ordered IPAs on tap...I went for the hot cider with a dash of bourbon. I found it light on the booze but I find that true most places. For an app, we shared a slice of toast topped with burrata. The thing was bigger than I thought. It was good. We decided to all order one of the specials, the short rib dinner with polenta and broccolini. Good Lord was it good. Huge short rib, delicious and tender, with a yummy Malbec Demi-glaze that was delicious. The rib sits on a big portion of polenta --seriously the best I've ever eaten. The broccolini was nice. I can see why they were running out of that dish for the night. Hubby ordered a mousse dessert that he enjoyed. I was too full to eat anymore. That being said, it is considered to be one of the treasures on this side of Kingston, NY on Route 28 and what it lacks in atmos, it makes up for in true star quality. This isn't my fave and thin, Patsy's Pizzeria in E. Harlem- but Steve's certainly does the job. Plus, these folks use FRESH mushroom and not canned crap for crying out loud. In all the years we've driven by here to head to Woodstock, I almost felt embarrassed that we've never noticed. But I picked up a plain slice and a mushroom in the middle of the afternoon since I was in the area already. You know how you go to some pizza shop and the pizza looks scraggly and almost dried because they've been sitting out all day? These don't. While they are placed on the partitioned glass shelf, somehow, Steve's pizza looks fresh and the finished product, tastes even better. In the 10 or so minutes it took me to get home, our 2 slices were still hot and traveled well. It's a bit doughy than what I like but it hit the spot. Honestly though, Steve's has a humble community feel that makes it exactly the kind of hangout you want to go to for shits and giggles.
