It might be a good idea to hire more than 1 cashier instead of 5 security guards. Over 30 people in line at the self check out is insane.

Directly outside the store before entering you have to bypass numerous panhandlers asking for change. Which is ridiculous since they're coughing and spiting on the ground right outside the door. Also when you get inside the first set of doors before the second set. There's another panhandler asking for cash to which I replied " I don't carry cash" he went on to say he has a credit card reader to which I almost died laughing since I figured the panhandlers have upgraded their operations. ,ROFL...... Upon entering the store. You're NOT greeted. Unlike other locations where Target has AP's which is an acronym for "Asset Protection" personnel at the door. Here they have a podium **SEE PICS** which is not a very good first impression for a family store since it's almost the first thing you see after entering. They had the AC on so ventilation was good. After getting a shopping cart. The wheels locked up to which I was amazed since I've never even in New York seen target carts with automatic perimeter wheel locks on them. I did however find another cart which was unlocked. The inventory levels in this store are very lacking. Also the restocking was very bad since a lot of shelves had a massive amount of empty real estate. Despite passing by numerous employees unlike other targets where they say hello or do you need any help. At this location. You might as well be a ghost. They literally walk by without saying anything even after making eye contact. The pricing at this store location leaves something to be desired. Most items were heavily marked up vs other locations which was weird since target is supposed to have the same pricing everywhere. The overall cleanliness of the store wasn't bad. The bathrooms were truly disgusting however since someone had went on the floor. Also the bathrooms have code locks on them to which I also never seen before at Target. You have to get the bathroom code from the pharmacy. The overall noise level was normal for a retail environment. The general crowd was mainly adults. No kids really. Upon leaving. You're once again asked for change by different panhandlers. Overall. This location is a DUMP. Target needs to do something with the numerous panhandlers as well as properly restocking the store. Dealing with numerous panhandlers coming and going as well as having to obtain door codes just to use the bathroom makes this location NOWHERE near a family store. Add the automatic locking shopping carts plus the very low inventory levels with employees that don't even acknowledge your presence makes this store a VERY HARD PASS. read more

Do not shop here. Prices for products are more expensive than Target's online products. The exact same products. I don't know how much of a theft problem they have but when there are few if any cashiers and self-check out is the only option, the excessive vigilance is over the top. One employee removed a bag with an item from a person's self checkout station after the person had paid for the item and when the customer objected, responded that they didn't know the customer still wanted the item. The boycott couldn't come at a better time. I will continue to shop elsewhere. read more

I came into the store today to pick up some sundries and snacks for the house. This location is super close to where I live, as well as, everything else north of Georgetown. First up on my list was a half gallon container of regular whole milk. This store doesn't have a huge selection of organic food, so I settled for what I could find. Orange juice was something that I ran out of last week, so Tropicana Pure Premium orange juice was two coolers down from the milk. I ran out of granola bars weeks ago, so I got the box of Nature Valley oats and honey granolas. And finally, I picked up a loaf of Nature's Own honey wheat bread. I already have peanut butter and jelly at home. The store wasn't busy at all and I checked out with my items fast. read more

Target is a good store. Unfortunately, I was not too impressed with this particular location, however. While there is validated garage parking underneath the store, I found the layout to be extremely confusing. Additionally, I was looking for an item that appeared on the Target app but was nowhere to be found. It is nearby, so I will probably come back here at some point to make a purchase, but I would not go out of my way to shop here. read more

Very poorly managed store. Long lines for few self-checkouts that work. Only one staffed register. Expect to wait a good 20-30 minutes to checkout and expect the price to be higher at the register than displayed at the shelf. This is the Tenleytown Target store. It is at 4500 Wisconsin Avenue & shares a parking garage with The Container Store. You can validate your parking ticket for a free hour at both stores. You really should get in and out of this garage before 3 hours (after the validated hour) to avoid the big jump in the parking fee. And do not try to get a receipt here for reimbursement (it's not possible). The Target store is a busy one most of the time especially after 3 pm when school is dismissed for the day and the teenagers flood into it. It has good security with two store security employees at all times. High theft items are behind locked cabinets or fixed with a security device. These cabinets have sensors to notify the store when you need something out. This store is only one level (it's one floor up from the garage) & it's smaller than some other stores. This means that you can get in and out of here fast if you need to do so. It has a fair amount of foot traffic. The self checkout option is quick & easy. Customer service is good here. There's a lot of helpful & friendly employees. This store has a CVS pharmacy & public restrooms with key pad access on the bathroom doors. Sadly a Target with a great location but while they have a ton a employees running around, the shelves are more often empty than not. Some of the staff is kind whereas others are downright rude ( I asked for an employee to unlock the shelf to get deodorant- yes they have a huge theft problem it seems - and the employee barked " this is my bathroom break!" Lidl is opening soon so will take my business there . read more

This Target is on hallowed ground where Best Buy fizzled out. Target might have sales with all the student traffic and being in the hub of shopping with the Container store and Whole foods and metro across the street. The Container store validates parking so it would make sense that Target would also. The location is ah-ite without being spectacular. Great location! This is a small-format store but is well located right next to a Metro stop with three schools and American University nearby. The toy section is by the side facing the elementary school. This is a great addition to a family neighborhood. It makes store pick-up and returns so convenient. read more

Had everything we needed! We came in for a fan and came out with a fan...and some toys! My daughter was sad when we first walked in because she didn't see a toy section, but we finally found it near the checkout at the end of our loop. As we walked around I saw they had most of the items we would normally need from a Target. read more

Ran into this target to pick a few things up quickly. Was slightly confused on where to enter as there were side doors but the store was organized and clean. Self checkout was absolutely packed and there weren't many lines guiding folks where to stand but it went quick. The items I was looking for showed as in stock in the store which was nice because I found exactly what I needed. read more

if I could give this 0 stars I would, this target is out of control. First off, we had to wait in line to shop for 40 minutes, okay I get it, they are worried about students stealing. Two students allowed in this store at a time is excessive. The employee rushed us out of the store after we had only been shopping for 5 minutes. He started talking to the security guard about how long we had been in there and it was rude and unprofessional. we left at 4:18 after waiting for 40 minutes and left at 4:22. I really want to like this store but somehow every time I come here I never buy more than one or two things. There's just better options either at the super crowded Whole Foods or poor service Giant. Pros: * Better service compared to other stores in the area. You can frequently find someone and ask them where a product is located (which might not work ... see the Cons list). Even pre-Covid, I can't ever seem to find an employee. * Clean store, well lit, good structure Cons: * Selection - this place tries to do everything in a small space and ends up having only the basics. I wish they'd buy out the Container Store and have a proper destination for food. * Brand names - as with most Target locations, they don't do many generics, which might be something you prefer but I dislike. Maybe when I was a kid, generics were lower quality, but nowadays, you're just buying the colorful packaging. * Produce - despite what you see in the pictures for this location, this section is minimal and of average to low quality. read more

The reviews about masks are true. Tonight the store was full of high schoolers, virtually all of whom were wearing their masks responsibly. I'm not sure why the adults running the place couldn't be bothered to do the same. A few staff members were wearing their masks correctly (and were very helpful). About the same number had their noses out, as if they only breathe through their mouths. And half the staff members weren't wearing their masks at all (unless you count around their necks). I work in a customer-facing role where I ensure that my full team is acting responsibly to ensure the safety of ourselves and customers. It's disappointing that target management doesn't seem to care. All the numbers are going up again. ICU's are filling up again. Please give a damn. read more

Wednesday I went into the DC Tenleytown location for an order pick up. While I was inside I decided to grab a few items. My son left cookies and a soda nearby that he wanted to purchase with his own money and went to the bathroom. I decided to use self check out and check out ahead of my son since we were paying separately anyway. While checking out I noticed store employee whose name I later learned was Emilio watching my family very closely. Emilio grabbed the cookies and soda that my son set aside mumbled something inaudible and threw them into a cart. I let him know that my son planned to purchase those items and went to get them out the cart. I finished checking out and stood to the side to wait for my son. Emilio came to the checkout I just finished using and reprinted the receipt. He said you didn't pay for the cookies and soda and demanded that I take them out of my bag. Not realizing my son was now ringing the items up. I told him my son was paying for the items and that I did not appreciate the accusations. I spoke with the manager on duty who seemed disinterested in the problem. I emailed cooperate and will not shop here again. read more

There was an incident where I Noticed a customer walking around the store screaming onto her fone massless. I politely asked her to wear her mask and she persisted to scream obscenities at me. When I alerted a manager he did nothing. No confrontation. Nothing. It was as if he was too timid and focused On avoiding drama than protecting his customers. It is the managers responsibility to keep a safe environment for their customers, many of which are elderly. If you can't step up to do this you are in the wrong line of work. Despite having a security guard that stands around aimlessly, many customers walk around with their masks pulled down. Shame on them. In addition, a maximum of one register is open at all times, while employees stand around the self checkout lines chit chatting and watching paying customers Do the job they are getting paid for. Personally, after a 12 hour shift, I do not feel as a paying customer is should have to scan my own items. It's a pain in the butt not to mention a hazardous move in a pandemic as the self checkout lines are out of control and stuck in the store For much longer than usual. I became so fed Up I politely asked an employee to open a register as I was not feeling well and in a rush and she rolled her eyes and proceeded to do so. The fact that she was standing around with the complete capability to open a register and do her job just infuriates me. Not sure why these people are getting paid to be honest. read more

I've been coming here more since the start of the COVID outbreak. The store is clean and has a good selection of items considering that it is one of Target's small format locations. That being said, the customer service here is very poor. While some associates are friendly and helpful, many are rude, uninterested, and seem to be bothered that they are working at all [particularly some of the people at the check out lanes]. Today the cashier was bothered that I was buying items, and rudely proclaimed that she wouldn't take cash. Overall, sub par experience. I used to like this Target. Today I went in and I noticed the store seemed over staffed with at least 15-20 folks I think stocking? Only ONE staff member had a mask fully on and most didn't have on a mask at all. This is an old building with questionable ventilation and the Delta variant is highly contagious. Target's site states, "we're providing masks and gloves to protect our team members......your health and safety will always be our highest priority." Ok, they provide masks but customers' health and safety doesnt appear to be practiced by its staff. Yesterday, was very disappointed and shocked to see several employees either not wearing their masks at all or wearing them as a chin support or neck hugger. Two were in the proximity of the customer service desk where management may be stationed and monitoring could occur. Since thought this might be a isolated day, I had the opportunity to return, today. Sadly the situation was WORSE. As stated on their site, they may provide masks to their team members, however it would be helpful if they were properly worn by them. I wish employees were as diligent as customers in wearing their masks, as they are intended. Not my closest Target but the one I prefer. It's a "mini Target" with a wider selection since the store was once a Best Buy and the footprint wasn't altered. Staff here is generally friendly. Everything tends to be well-stocked and I usually find what I need. Clearance is smaller but has better finds than full-size Targets, which seem to get picked through faster. Only four stars because their grocery prices are a little high for a big box store. read more

This target is underwhelming to say the very least. The employees don't know where anything is. I've received better service at the Target in Columbia Heights, and that place is a mad house most of the time. The grocery prices are ridiculous. Giant up the road has lower prices for things like eggs. Even Whole Foods across the street has more competitive pricing on basic food items. They spices section was scant, but the candy section was well stocked with a great selection. :-/ The ethnic haircare section is a joke, and they don't have simple things like a kitchen drain stopper. I left the store with 1/3 of the items I needed. Did I mentioned that the employees or clueless? Train them. Horrible. read more

The last couple of times as I approached checkout the staffer said are you ready to check out sir? I thought for a second - this is refreshing someone who actually wants to do their job. Your Target experience here in Tenleytown begins outside the one entrance, where a cluster of panhandlers dun you for money. The air is filled with the strong smell of weed and you think, "I can't get inside and away from this stink fast enough." Only the entrance area that leads to Target and the Ace Hardware store downstairs is equally pungent, and I mean choke level. I was wearing a mask and that didn't even filter it. Then, you enter the store and... weed-stink permeates it, too. IN. THE. STORE. I couldn't get out of there and across the street fast enough. But first I talked to the woman who seemed to be in charge. And she said, "It's usually not this bad." She was nice and apologized for it but if this is a typical day there, you'd think they could do something about it. Not going back. I mean... yuk. read more

I never really shopped at Target until COVID-19. I came in for the first time looking for paper towels when I couldn't find them anywhere else. This store had them and was the first to deter noarding by placing purchase limits. Every team member I encountered was friendly, genuinely helpful and professional. This store also proactively looks out for the health and safety of both staff and customers. They mark off 6' intervals in checkout lines and a team member courteously monitors compliance. They also sanitize every single checkout station between customers. This store has made a fan out of a doubter. Thanks! read more

This Target at the Tenleytown metro has bathrooms in the back of the store and you have to ask a sales associate for the code to unlock the door. Unlike the Best Buy that was in this location before, there is only one stall each for women, men and family. The Container Store next door does not have a code to unlock the door because that store does not lock their bathrooms. So, if you need to use the bathroom after you get off the Tenleytown metro, go to the The Container Store. Skip Target. read more

A young woman slowly approached, wordlessly staring at me. "Is this lane open?" I asked, confused by her manner. "The light's on," she replied, pointing up at it as if I were stupid. I was in dire need of new jeans. When jeans have holes that aren't there for the style, they need to go. Doing so digging, I found Slash Clothing. With so many stars and good reviews, it was worth a shot. Soon as I walked in I was greeted by Sarah who took me on a tour of the jeans section. Didn't think it was possible but I was instantly drawn to these comfy, well worn boyfriend jeans-holes not included. For 25$, it was a steal!
