While I was about it, I'd pick up some global snacks. It had been years, but yesterday, since I was in the area, I decided pop in. The store focus seems to have shifted to foodie treats. I scooped up a box of British brownie mix made with Cadbury chocolate and a jar of Madras curry powder made with spices from Cape Town. I could have bought many more items, believe me, but I've been on an eating tear lately, so I held back. I was sad to see the home furnishings section much scaled back and more conventional than back in the day. But still, World Market remains a foodie delight!

Twice when I've been to this store I have seen *awful* customers treating the staff horribly. There's just NO reason to yell and curse and swear and I feel so sorry for staff who have to put up with this level of nonsense. I recently had what I thought was going to be a challenging experience and I was directed to Rosa who took such good care of me and was so kind. I know how tough it can be to work customer service, especially when people can be so unkind and hostile. I was so appreciative of Rosa's kindness, patience, and taking charge of my situation and resolving it to my satisfaction. Thanks so much for having staff who are empowered to make things happen... I'll be back soon!

Problem 1: At pickup my lamp was tagged $55 for repair. Eva couldn't explain why, said the person was confused but she would charge me $35. Problem 2: Before bagging the lamp and driving back home with my lamp I ask Eva to plug it to confirm it turned back on. The lamp didn't turn on. Clearly it wasn't fixed or checked by anyone prior to calling me for pickup. Eva says leave it and I will have the repair person look again. Problem 3: Eva calls me back and says well the lamp should be rewired to replace the plug and thats going to be $65. I was quoted $35 to fix the lamp. The lamp should be fixed at the quoted price $35. The lamp should have been checked prior to calling for pickup. Complete waste of my time.

She started yelling about conspiracies and asked what I was accusing her of. I was not accusing her of anything, just asked a question. She said to bring the lamp back to be re-done. I have had to eat that $90 charge as I will NEVER set foot in that place again and will take my lamp elsewhere to see if the damage can be fixed. My family used to live about 10 minutes away from this location, now they live 20+ minutes away and guess what? I still go. The thing is, everything here is solid--each department has amazing treasures to be found. Sometimes when I come in, I like to do the whole sweep--usually shoes, clothes, bric a brac, and jewelry. Sometimes if that's too much, I just stick to one or two departments. The books section alone is gold. Are things overpriced? Yes. But they have a fantastic loyalty program, as well as weekly sales including I want to say one day that's 25% every week. Obviously if you have a senior citizen in your life, they also get a great discount. Do not sleep on this place, I have furnished my closet and my home with items from this store regularly. I found a few decent items. The prices were a bit high. The cons: speaking of selection, maybe customers would have more choices if the resellers hanging out in the back didn't descend on every cart being wheeled out, snatching up the best stuff. I still managed to find a nice vintage décor piece on one of those carts, surprisingly. The workers were complaining about being swarmed and items being snatched up before the carts were fully out of the back. It was an interesting scene. That being said, I am not sure it is worth my time to return there with the overall higher prices and fewer items of quality.
