Unique as I recently discovered is a FOR-PROFIT thrift store, not a charity, with most proceeds benefiting the company. I also noticed their prices is above other thrift stores. I would not go there if your intention is to help charity causes. If you want to shop for thrifts or drop your used goods, Salvation Army and Goodwill is the place to go, as 85% of the sale goes to good cause. I rated a 1 star as I am disappointed to know this, not to mention the place is always a mess and prices are crazy high. read more

I love thrifting especially if I can a great deal. However here, they are not like GW or Salvation Army in terms of sales. Each clothing has a unique price. I should not be paying $ 8.99 for an off brand rayon material blouse. I get that they have overhead expenses to cover but some of the items your better paying a few $ extra for brand new. They have a membership card that you can sign up for, to save more money. The store also has a indoor bazaar section that has multiple vendors, from seamstress, jewelry, and eye brow threading. Outside the store they had vendors selling pozole and tamales. I might come back but the prices here aren't worth it. read more

I'm a big fan of the Unique Thrift Stores and this one is pretty good! It's really big so if you come in you need a plan. Know what you're looking for or it will quickly get overwhelming! Some location specifics- the parking lot is kind of chaotic here, so be prepared to bring your patience when you park. There are no changing rooms and the bathrooms were a mess when I visited. Some Unique Thrift specifics- pick which day to go carefully. They have 25% off deals on Mondays and Thursdays, so those days are pretty busy. The weekends of course are busy too. If you're shopping for clothes, I recommend wearing something close fitting so you can try clothes on over your normal clothes. read more

This is hands down my favorite thrift store EVER. I don't even live in Maryland, y'all. I visit my family about 4-6 times per year and I almost always work in a trip to Unique/Savers. My family used to live about 10 minutes away from this location, now they live 20+ minutes away and guess what? I still go. The thing is, everything here is solid--each department has amazing treasures to be found. Sometimes when I come in, I like to do the whole sweep--usually shoes, clothes, bric a brac, and jewelry. Sometimes if that's too much, I just stick to one or two departments. The books section alone is gold. Are things overpriced? Yes. But they have a fantastic loyalty program, as well as weekly sales including I want to say one day that's 25% every week. Obviously if you have a senior citizen in your life, they also get a great discount. Do not sleep on this place, I have furnished my closet and my home with items from this store regularly. OK, it's been 14 years and I visited this place again. It's still quite chaotic and a hot mess that I found some really good stuff here. I think I keep making the mistake of visiting on a weekend when really I need to visit during the week. We went on a Sunday afternoon and there were tons of people and kids running wild, but the organization of the store seems to be a lot better. I only walked away with a few items, but it was J.Crew, Marmot and a fun Xmas sweater. This location has two thrift stores in the same building. I describe the shopping experience as looking through someone's closet. Sometimes you find a treasure. Sometimes you find junk. Today it was truly amazing management told me to stay in my lane after watching them throw an item on the floor as I stated," I would like to purchase it ." meanwhile she put it on the floor where she was standing . I had waited for three racks to be priced to get this blanket. She then said ,"no ,no price!" I said I would like to buy it before there are rat droppings all over it. I went to get management for help. Management then told me ,""stop complaining and stay in my own lane !" I am 65 and had this young man say that to me I found it quite offensive.. within minutes the employees in the back where this was happening were screaming as a rat ran by ! It's pretty huge, i have been here in the past when i used to buy little golden books for my children. Now they are grown I don't really go here often. Today we went in the insistence of my daughter. She had all her friends in tow and they went at it. Thrifting is a big thing now especially with the inflation. I saw many diverse customers here. It can be a bit dusty and if you have dust allergies you will definitely sneeze. But many good finds BUT make sure ithe price is right. I saw dollar tree items and they are selling it for $1.99 what you mean it's $1.25 in the dollar tree. I did get a nice bamboo steamer for $3.99 it seems ok. We will see. My mother in law got a lot of stuff like church outfits and such. The prices are still kinda up there but she didn't mind she still bought so much stuff, hats bags and everything. I have shopped here and donated for years but not anymore. The rude salesperson (short man with beard and mustache, no name tag) who was misogynistic as I attempted to obtain a promotional discount was the final straw. I am aware that this is a FOR PROFIT thrift store, fine. In spite of that I've donated for years because I've found some great items. In the past year the prices have gone up so much I only shop on the discounted days or when there are email promotions. As I was told by the dismissive man to email Unique because he had "no power" (although he had the coupon on his phone to show me what the email would look like) to help me, there has been zero response from Unique online. Drop off here is super easy. They have accommodating hours and a very drive up lane so you can just drop your donation at the curb. Assuming there's a person there to assist you, they'll also give you a coupon for your next shopping trip. Just be sure to read the fine print - you have to call the number provided and get a got before you can use it. I made my first instore visit just yesterday. I couldn't believe there's a whole flea market type set up on the right side!! My mom and I enjoyed browsing the Halloween themed tshirts for the kiddos and managed to find some cute ones. Just a heads up the the checkout lines can get long enough to go all the way to the back of the store. Man, this place is crowded on a Saturday afternoon! Maybe it is because it's a bargain hunter's paradise. It is very organized; like a Marshals on steroids. The vast majority is clothing. There is overhead signage for men's, women's, and kid's sections. Even within the women's area you can easily find what you are specifically looking for, like dresses or nighties. Signs are clearly posted. I found what I needed for my Halloween costume, and it was just $2.99! Awesome! I use to shop here often when I taught down the street. I bought lots of games and books for my classroom. One thing I noticed this time was that the book section has quadrupled in size. The pricing for books is not as cheap as the Georgia Avenue Thrift Store that I like to peruse. Books here start at $1.99, and are priced in two tiers based on the retail price regardless of the condition. Still, they have hundreds to chose from. Housewares are cheap for the most part. You never know what treasure you'll find. I nabbed a small precious Limoges plate for just $1.99! It's just waiting to serve cookies on with my afternoon tea. Unique Thrift is extremely hard to review for me because depending on the day you can have entirely different experiences. I landed on giving this store three stars but it probably deserves an average of 2.5 stars. I would like to consider myself the queen of thrift stores. I have probably spent more money at thrift stores than Target/Walmart. Like most thrift stores this one has highs and lows...and even some extremely lows. Highs: - Quantity: This is a pretty large store with basically everything you could want. Toys, clothing, accessories, houseware...everything. - Quality: If you look hard you'll find name brands all over. My favorite is the kitchen electronics. Lows: - Staff: I'm not sure why but there's normally only five people working in the entire store. Not to mention staff don't seem overly friendly. - Parking Lot: The parking lot is a complete mess. People make up their own spots and it is always packed. Extreme lows: - Price: The Prices here make zero sense. Nothing makes me more upset than a thrift store overcharging for items they got for free. Originally I thought name brand meant higher prices but that's not always the case. Buyer beware to check those tags. - Consumers: I have no idea why but people are pretty rude here. There's no "excuse me" and no real sense of responsibility. People will drop something and leave it on the floor. Others will take something off a hanger and just lay it on the rack instead of hanging it back up. Even with the lows I still come at least once a month. Lately I haven't been finding nearly as many treasures but I hope it changes. Whoa this place is huge! At first glance it can be overwhelming. But once I took a minute to ground myself I realized that it's actually quite organized and filled to the brim with stuff. Pros: the clothing. Man! The majority of the store is dedicated to men's and women's clothing. Take your time to pick through and have fun. I found quite a few dresses and pants. Everything is organized by size and seemed easy to sift through. There weren't a lot of misplaced clothes in the wrong size areas so it leads me to believe that the staff comb through periodically to make sure everything is organized. The shoe area was a bit messy. There were decent quality (lots of designer shoes) but good luck finding a matching pair! The housewares there organized by dishes and brass as Knick knacks and labeled as such. I thought that was cool! Where they lost points is the customer service. The cashier literally balled my clothes up and let them fall onto the ground behind her. She handed me the receipt and started ringing up the next customer (there were only two of us in line so the store wasn't busy). I had to go behind her clerk area to pick my clothes up off the floor to leave. Not a good look! read more

Ok- before you yell at me for giving them two stars. Let's just talk for a second. If you know me, you know that I love yard sales, estate sales, Costco, and more. In terms of sales and money saving, I'm pretty much leader of the pack. I can't reconcile some of the prices at Unique Thrift. I understand that they are paying for a big store and a big staff- but you really can't charge me 20 dollars for used off-brand dress shoes. You just can't do that. You can get new dress shoes that are off brand at Payless or TJ Maxx for near that amount. Also, 15 bucks for a pair of old Tommy Hilfiger bahama pants. You really can't charge me that for that either. These are not just last season- they are like 1995's season. Let's also talk about 7-8 dollars for a used out of fashion tie. Let's just talk about that. Your prices are out of control. You are still a thrift store. No matter how large you get - and I just can't pay TJ Maxx / Marshall prices at a Thrift Store. Love love love love this place to pieces. This is my go to place for my little girls clothes! They have a GREAT section of clothes for her. Sometimes you will find designer things; I got her a really cute white color polo for $3.99! I leave with bags and bags of clothes for my little lady at $40 a pop. You can easily grab 50 pieces of clothing for kids (some designer) and leave with a $50-$75 dollar bill! Last weekend I went and updated her whole summer wardrobe (about 70 piece of clothing) for 88 dollars. SOMETIMES I will look in the toy section but its typically not worth it since everything is in poor condition or broken. They have some good outdoor toys for kids. I go there maybe once a week to see what they have and I never leave empty handed. Sales they have: -Thursday 25% off for VIP members. You have to have a card (see pics) and you can NOT get it on Thursday. The good thing... you can USE ANY VIP CARD. 9 times out of 10 when I'm in line the cashier will ask the person in front of me if they have the VIP card and they look confused. The cashier then asks me "ma'am do you have one they can use?" I want to snap "no b*tch they cant use my discount card *mumbles "my precious"* and I reluctantly hand my card over... I wish we accumulated points for every time we used the card. -Holidays like 4th of July and Memorial Day 50% off!! If you shop their holiday sales you might want to get there early... if you go after work (like I do) you will think the place has closed for business. Unbelievable stuff happened to me today! The cashier didn't sell me a sandwich plate and a cup. We walked the all way to the shelves to see other plates and cups. The plate and the cup were staying together, same as other the same eleven plates and cups, but she was sure it was different plate to the cup. No she wasn't convinced! Even she couldn't find "correct" plate. The sandwich plate and cup are common vintage set, and she didn't know - they go together. Unprofessional and stubborn, she did it to me second time. While I'd rather pop some tags at a non-profit, you can still throw together a cheap, bomb ass costume in a cinch while rummaging through here if you're creative enough. I took a gamble with Unique Thrift. I needed to create a costume for Yelp's Celebrity Affair party and I only had a few hours before the event started to figure things out. Since the party theme was all about embracing movie characters or other elements of Hollywood, I decided that going as Tom Cruise from Risky Business would be cute, cheap and allow me to neglect my posture and eat more food while swimming in an over sized men's dress shirt. Like many thrift shops, this one is no different in scent: smells like moth balls. But I was impressed with their seemingly endless assortment of clothes. If I had been shopping with a discerning eye for style, I may not have been impressed. But if you're looking for something specific or creating a costume or "look" you'll have your pickings to choose from. As for the other odds and ends available here? Pretty weak. If you're looking for truly antique pieces, you're better suited heading else where. read more

One of the biggest thrift stores around. Well organized and clean. If you are looking for clothing it will take a while, but as long as you have the time you can find something. I don't personally go thrifting often for clothing other than a costume or two, but I did notice some awesome ugly sweaters and 90s sweatsuits. There is a good variety of housewares and I enjoy the grab bags that have a variety of similar small items. Pyrex dishes, serving pieces and pots. I've also noticed there is a great variety of little trinkets and decorating items. I got a semi-creepy but also lovable wooden carved cat that looks over our mantle. The framed pictures are overpriced in my opinion, and don't seem to sell. There are discounts available if you join the VIP club. I have been going to this place for years and always felt welcome, but today was the worst experience of my life. We were in line for self checkout, when I saw that register 18 was open, as I proceeded with my daughter to the register the woman that was in charged of self checkout named Charika told us, "come here because I cannot see what you ring there." We walked to the register that she told us and as I scanned this woman stands there staring at us scan each item. I was already getting upset because she was staring at us scan as if we were the only customers there or as if we were thieves. After scanning 7 items this woman proceeds to approach my bag and count the items that I had placed inside the bag to make sure it matched the amount of items on the screen. We were being treated like thieves. I got so upset, I asked for the manager, but She said no one was available, so I took a picture of her ID card. This woman stood staring at our register until we finished ringing every item as if we were thieves. People go to the thrift store for many reasons and from all economic backgrounds, but in no moment should a person be harassed by anyone. This store needs to train its employees to be courteous and not target people. read more

While I prefer the White Oak location due to the lack of crowds, this store has a higher volume of amazing finds. Take your time. There are not enough employees to offer help, so you're on your own. Do me a favor and hang your clothing back on the racks, please! Leave yourself open to finding things and you might get lucky. The more specific you are with requests from the universe, the more likely you are to be disappointed. Two tips- 1. This location has a drive up donation area, right in front. Pull up to the stop sign and someone will be there in a moment, ready to help you unload. So easy! 2. Be sure to pause at the collectibles counter. I've found a few wonderful Lego sets there along with a random assortment of treasures. read more

My neighbor introduced me to this place shortly after I moved in (almost 2 years ago!). We purchased used lawn chairs that have served our little community (shout out to D-Block) well. There's a ton of random stuff that you can find here! But, I go there for the books! Every time I go, I inevitably spend an hour combing the stacks and come out with 5-10 books. Got a (reasonably popular) title you've been wanting to read? There's a chance they have it. Something random catch your eye? Books are so cheap here (and buy 4 get 1 free!) that you may as well give it a shot! They've got tons on cast iron cookware too. And other stuff. So much stuff! The only thing thrift about this store in my opinion is the sign. As I walked through the doors the first time a few years back my mouth fell to the ground. Like a previous reviewer said "this place is huge!" They have racks and racks upon racks of clothing from baby clothes and teens to clothes for men and women all separated by gender and size (impressive). Oh and they have wedding / prom dresses too. The only thing missing is a fitting room, however with the cheap price of the clothing I guess it could be re-donated if it does not fit. This location even has a jewelry counter, and isle for books and music as well as a section for computers, car seats, furniture items and more. I typically drop off my donations at the front door and then enter the store to see what goodies I can find. I typically hit up the jean section first. They have a vast selection. They have several locations. This is the only location that I've been to. I highly recommend this location.
