I always make an appointment a few months in advance online because time slots get filled up quickly. One thing I don't love is that I never get to see the same optometrist. I would prefer to see the same one and it is possible if you can secure an appointment with them. Checking in is quick and easy. A staff member will call your name when it's your turn. In terms of pricing it may depend on your insurance. You can purchase contact lens and glasses at this location. If you're unlucky, the staff member who assists with purchasing contact lens might be on lunch time or left for the day. You can purchase them online too but I prefer to do this in-person when I'm there. Depending on which contact lens brand you use, they may offer a rebate. Make sure you have an invoice for the contact lens and exam fee if you plan on submitting a rebate. I do this every year and the process is easy. So far I have a pleasant experience at this location. All optometrists I came across are friendly and professional. The location is clean and spacious.

The nurses and some of the front staff is lazy rude and will gaslight you if they can and put the blame on you for lack of doing their job. They will not take any responsibility for their laziness and lack accountability. If there's cameras in the waiting area upper management needs to review and see what kind of people they're employing at this location. The worst part is instead of asking why someone's been sitting in the small waiting area they choose to instead have a full blown 20 minute conversation about nothing with someone else who's there with plenty of time to blow. Not till I got up to speak to someone else and was asked to interrupt their personal conversation about nothing did they acknowledge that I had been waiting for almost an hour to be seen. They had proof that I had checked in an hour before but initially denied it saying the self kiosk check in was not an option at this location. Then how did they know exactly when I checked in. It even took a picture of me when I checked in. They're also not good about coming thru with the drs follow up requests for an appointment. This too has happened more than once. They continued being rude therefore I had no choice but to walk out and not be seen by Dr.XIE. The nurse without a voice nor the energy to walk into the waiting area to call me in was just as bad if not worse than the front desk people. No voice, and no energy to walk outside of her cubicle to call patients name. That's how you end up waiting an hour to be seen and even then only because I got up to ask the front desk.

After THREE ATTEMPTS, the glasses they made *never once* had the right prescription, and it had to be sent back to the lab *every time* incurring a 2 to 3 week delay, each time. Often they would not alert me that the glasses had come in, or claim that they had called and left a message when no voicemail existed. She sent me home with two contact samples. Both were different from my last prescription, which is what I requested. I decided to order my contacts online with a discount I got through my employer. I reached out to Total Vision last Wednesday to get a copy of my prescription for the version of contacts I liked from the two sampled. I was sent a link for their patient portal and told my contacts prescription could would be there. It wasn't. So I sent a message directly to the doctor and their staff on the patient portal since I figured that made the most sense. I did not get a response. Additionally, the company I ordered my contacts from was reaching out to me to let me know that the office was not responding to their multiple requests for prescription verification. I finally call them again today and after two phone calls, 2 hours apart, my contacts prescription was finally uploaded to my patient portal, but it's for the wrong contacts. Of course I realize this 10 minutes after they close. So now I have to wait until tomorrow when they open to get this sorted. It'll be 6 days since my initial request and I still don't have my prescription. I understand that they probably have a lot of prescriptions to upload and clients to see, but I don't understand why this has been such a complicated ordeal. I also don't understand why none of the front staff took a second to review my contacts prescription during one of the 3 times I spoke to them. Dr. Thai is a great doctor but it seems like there's some major disorganization and carelessness when dealing with the admin staff. I was truly impressed with the entire experience at San Marino Optometry (SMO)! The team made me feel relaxed and comfortable, and addressed all of my questions and requests. Dr Nguyen is so personable, knowledgeable, answered all of my questions and was able to perform my eye exams, prescribe and fit me with a set of daily wear trial contact lenses at my appointment! The new contacts from Dr Nguyen are so much more comfortable than the monthly contacts I've been prescribed (by my former optometrist) and have used for many years! My vision is also much sharper with the toric lens Dr Nguyen prescribed. I also ordered new lenses with my new prescription for my existing frames. SMO grinds their lenses and integrates the lenses into the frames in house so once your lenses are ready, you can drop your eyeglasses off and they will put the new lenses in the same day - Bonus!
