I was truly impressed with the entire experience at San Marino Optometry (SMO)! The team made me feel relaxed and comfortable, and addressed all of my questions and requests. Dr Nguyen is so personable, knowledgeable, answered all of my questions and was able to perform my eye exams, prescribe and fit me with a set of daily wear trial contact lenses at my appointment! The new contacts from Dr Nguyen are so much more comfortable than the monthly contacts I've been prescribed (by my former optometrist) and have used for many years! My vision is also much sharper with the toric lens Dr Nguyen prescribed. I also ordered new lenses with my new prescription for my existing frames. SMO grinds their lenses and integrates the lenses into the frames in house so once your lenses are ready, you can drop your eyeglasses off and they will put the new lenses in the same day - Bonus! There are two ophthamologists at San Marino Optometry, and one optometrist. Actually, maybe even more! All are exceptional . Service is top notch, and the selection of frames is very large. The receptionist, Willie, is friendly and welcoming. It's a pleasure to go there for eye exams and new frames. It looks tiny from the street, but it's nice and comfortable inside. If you are big on first impressions, then you'll be impressed as soon as you walk in. The office is immaculate and smells so good and clean. You will be greeted by a friendly staff that is genuinely eager to help you. My five star review goes beyond the appearance of the office but to my dry eye consultation which turned out to be more enlightening than I ever thought. I had been to urgent care for "eye infections" in the last year not knowing I was dealing with a more serious issue. Dr. Nguyen spotted it right away during the exam and even showed me where the problem areas were. He immediately sent prescription drops to my pharmacy and gave me recommended steps to take with my primary care doctor. There are some hand sanitizers available for customers to use. This place is open and available with no limited capacity. They are not sanitizing in between customers. COVID-19 Vaccination Proof: This establishment currently does not require proof of vaccination. While I was grabbing my glasses from this establishment several days ago, I asked if they had any special offers and they weren't offering any at the moment. They also do not allow pets in their establishment UNLESS it's a service animal. Parking: The parking lot for this establishment is located in the back. However, it is very tiny. People primarily park in the front of the establishment because there are several parking spots for people to choose from. The downside of parking in the front is backing up into traffic to leave. I lowkey hate backing into traffic. Staff: The staff here are very fast, knowledgeable, friendly, welcoming, and professional. The store itself is very clean, neat, and tidy. This is my second year getting my annual eye checkup with Dr. Toan Nguyen, and I can say that I've found my forever annual eye checkup place. The space is modern and clean. Staff are super friendly, and Dr. Nguyen is very knowledgeable and professional (not to mention also very chill and laidback). Their office seems to offer a wide variety of glasses/frames (although I, myself, don't wear glasses). On top of that, they also carry a great selection of dry eye products. Based on the Yelp reviews I've read, I wanted to find an optometry office closer to home and was able to use VSP vision insurance. I was so happy today to have my vision tested by another provider, as my previous doctor sold the business and does not take VSP. The staff are so friendly and the office is immaculate. Sydney was my hostess who tested my general eye characteristics with new equipment and documented periferal vision, as well as the physical characteristics of each eye. Once I completing testing, I next met with the good doctor who tested my eyesight and compared my existing glasses with our testing today. There were no real surprises thankfully, and I was happy that it was completed in less than an hour. I commented to Doctor Nguyen that I really like how he docorated the front office, but was told it was all his wife's design. So blessed to have Dr Nguyen, Wily, and their San Marino Optometry team here right next door--simply put, the best local optometry clinic and eyeglass store I could ask for. Love my glasses I got here two years ago. I was pretty rough with them at the gym and had to get the nose bridge replaced. The turnaround time was a few days and the price was quite reasonable. My experience was so good that I purchased the same pair with polarized lenses for driving and outdoor activities. Concierge service, top end product, local family owned business? Life changing! This review is a long time in coming. Thank you Dr. Nguyen! Ive had eye problems all my life. Ive been to other eye dr's over the years and I have needed a cataract surgery on my remaining seeing eye. I've had unsuccessful surgery on my right eye resulting in loss of sight. The past few years I've dealt with having the surgery or not. The other Dr's pretty much said it's too risky and up to me. After speaking with Dr. Nguyen he convinced me to get it done. Glad I had it done I went from seeing 20/80 to 20/30. Now on to the office, what can I say? The office is loaded with the most up to date equipment and is "spotless" and the staff are the best. I came across this location while I was researching local optometrist. From the moment I requested an appointment staff was extremely helpful. When my partner and I walked in we were automatically acknowledged and greeted. Super friendly staff, I felt like I have been a patient there for many years, mind you it was our first visit.Dr. Nguyen was AMAZING! I highly recommend this office for your vision needs. Parking: the office is located off Huntington Drive and there is street parking there. It is a busy street so if you get antsy trying to back out into oncoming traffic they also have a small parking lot out back and they are very nice about letting you through the back door. For appointments you can easily schedule thru their website or by phone. I was first referred by my sister to this office after the thorough care she received, and she liked how Dr. Nguyen was uptodate with studies to share with her. I previously followed with Dr. Phan and more recently with Dr. Nguyen as Dr. Phan has limited appointments at the office but both provide excellent care. Their office utilizes the latest technology for the eye exams. They are very patient and will explain their findings with you and what risks you may have and what to watch out for. They can also manage eye emergencies which is a relief to know you won't need to go to the ER to see a doctor who doesn't know your history but even if the office is closed they will take care of you. Visits here make you feel like a visit to a family/friend. As a patient here you won't feel like a customer they are trying to sell random things to. The doctors will even come out and help you look for eyeglass frames that fit your face. The front desk staff is also very welcoming. Overall you get a pleasant experience here. read more

My last doctor gave me contacts lenses that were too dry and made my eyes hurt. Dr. Phan made sure to get me daily contacts that were comfortable and gave me trials to make sure I liked them. First off... I have to say... I LOVE my beautiful Kio Yamato shades! They are handmade in Japan and it feels so light and comfortable on my face. It's been years and I've finally found a pair that I LOVE !!! Thank you San Marino Optometry  for being honest and patient with me as I tried on many different pairs. Upon arrival, the staffs were very friendly and quick to greet me. The ambiance was very nice. The office décor definitely caught my eyes. Very clean and modern. (I am very particular when it comes to eye care and I believe the office reflects it owners.) They also have a cute stand for coffee, tea, or water! (super like!!!) It was my first exam with Dr. Phan. She was very informative, detailed, and friendly. She explained each steps for me, which I appreciate. What's so cool about the process is that she recorded my eye exam and showed me what she meant by dry eyes. They also have a Dry Eye Spa, which I am coming back for!!! :) Overall, the experience was very nice and comfortable. Will return for sure! I am happy to know that if she isn't there, her husband Dr. Nguyen would be to help me. These two optometrists are amazing and super friendly. I highly recommend this place to everyone! I've never been a fan of any type of medical facility, but you can tell that Dr. Nguyen really cares about his patients and their welfare and comfort. Explanations are super simple to understand, and he doesn't make you feel stupid for asking questions (even if I did ask a very stupid question). My prescription is very high, and my old glasses kept giving me a headache. This was even with high-index lens. Instantly felt better with my new glasses because Dr. Nguyen actually took the time to make sure the lens were in line with my eyes (i.e. no more vertigo effect). The glasses themselves were a little tight against my ear bone, but Dr. Nguyen was able to adjust them afterwards. Now they're perfectly snug and fashionable to boot! ^^ This is also the only place where my son will sit still for his eye exams, so that alone warrants the rating. It's easy to reach staff directly if you have a question (versus many places have third party answering services and take you through long automated menus with long hold times). My experience with this place was exceptional ! I needed to get glasses right away as I broke mine and had to update my prescription so I booked a last minute online appointment for the next day. Mind you, they have extended hours for some days which was a super plus for me since I work M-F, no need to take off work at all. As I went in for my appointment, a lot of parking, no wait times and I was easily accommodated by Nicole to fill some paperwork. Dr. Phan attended on my needs and made sure I felt comfortable at all times. She had recommended what she thinks was best for me. Their new office is beautiful and parking is great! I like how her office was simple, modern and clean. I hate how some offices are real cluttered, but her was just up to my standard. Not only was her office clean, but both Doctors have passion and knowledge for what they do. I saw Dr. Toan this time and he was just as great as Dr. Phan. He made me feel welcome and comfortable like we were old friends. He explained everything to me in detail as he was doing it and was patient with all my questions. I would highly recommend this place. Also, I like how they gave me a reminder text that my glasses are ready to be pick up and I had receive a hand written thank you card in the mail from them. Absolute worst glasses I ever got...and to add insult to injury was also the most expensive for a basic pair of reading glasses. Their glasses would cause horrible eye strain after a short time of using. Bought two replacement glasses from someplace else and that never had a problem. Tried to get them to resolve the issue, but after months of waiting, they never resolved it. They didn't offer me a refund either. So now I have a pair of reading glasses that I can't use that cost $270 (even with my vision insurance). read more

Then Gabriel discovered there was actually a piece missing that was preventing the frames from staying on tightly. He made an adjustment and my frames fit perfectly again. No charge. Absolutely knowledgeable, efficient, and compassionate - I felt he was providing a thorough, individualized approach in meeting my needs as a patient. I had allowance from my insurance that I had to use asap and so I'm glad that San Marino Optometry was able to book my appointment the next day. Dr. Toan was very thorough and described that my retinal imaging was normal despite having myelinated nerve fibers. I walked out of the office with different samples of contact lenses and a box of Retaine eye drops (free of charge!). Overall, staff was friendly, doctor is very knowledgeable, service was exceptional--will definitely be referring them to my friends and family. So thankful I found my optometrist! read more
