I have been DYING to update this review of this horrendous Target.
(The only reason I couldn't was because I had to wait for my best friend to receive her present because she's a Yelper and this would have given away the surprise. So yay! She got it and is happy and I can review!)
The Story of How to Get A Wii Fit for Retail Price
---or---
WHY THIS TARGET SUCKS
So I was in the market for a birthday gift for my best friend in the whole wide world. I've gotten her some pretty awesome gifts before (iPods, cute earrings, etc.), and this was going to be her 25th so I had to get her something really great. I narrowed it down to Guitar Hero, Rock Band, or Wii Fit.
GH3 and Rock Band kinda suck for the Wii and Rock Band 2 wasn't coming out until November... AND... I reeaaally wanted to get her the Wii Fit because it's a hot commodity, and I know she would have really loved it.
I did my research and found that Craigslist, Amazon, and pretty much everywhere was sold out or HIGHLY overpriced. I wasn't willing to shell out $50+ extra dollars that people were selling them for on top of the retail price so I waited.
Target, Walmart, and GameSpot are AMAZING because they have this online feature that tells you if their products are available in store. Fortunately for me, after checking obsessively for 3 weeks, this Target (along with a couple others) had Wii Fits in stock the week of my BFF's bday! WOO!
So of course I'm not an idiot and don't trust the online thing completely and decide to call ahead (1 hour after opening) to ask if this store did indeed have Wii Fits in stock.
"No, we don't" was the curt answer I received from the electronics and media department.
Hm. Ok, an hour after opening... yeah, I guess it's possible that they've sold out within an hour. Next I check is the Sunnyvale store (not as close as this location but worth the drive) and yay they're in stock. I hurry over and great! I get a Wii Fit. Since they had more than a few, I wanted to see if I could buy 2 (one for the BFF and one for me).
Well, they don't sell you 2 since they're in demand and scarce. So the wonderfully helpful clerk tells me "hey, you can drive to the Mt. View Target and get a second one there because according to my Target network computer, it says they have 6 in stock."
WHAAAAAT??? Are you kidding me?? At this point I really didn't want a Wii Fit for myself after the clerk had said he could only sell me 1. BUT, I swore to myself that if the Mt. View location had Wii Fits in stock, I would get one just out of spite.
Well well well, so I make the drive over and lo and behold, they have more than a few in stock (true to the website). I am SO MAD at this point because SOMEBODY at this Target in the right department LIED to me for NO REASON. Why would you tell me that it's not in stock when it is?? The Sunnyvale Target told me! What kind of customer service is this?? Is it in your policy to lie to your customers? And blaming ignorance is pointless because Wii Fits are a hot commodity and whenever they're in stock, it's pretty much clear that everyone knows. It's like having the Mona Lisa in your museum. Well, that's exaggerated... and I can't believe I just compared the Mona Lisa to Wii Fit. Whatever. You get my point.
Anyway, I was so mad that I filed a formal complaint to Target about this store and told them my story. What makes me MORE mad is that they didn't even get the point of my complaint. I had to include the Wii Fit part and all they did was focus on that. They basically told me that Wii Fits are in high demand and aren't guaranteed to be available at any of their stores. Uhm... then why do you have availability on your website?? I CALLED the store to ASK them. And it's not that I'm complaining that Wii Fits are hard to get. I'm complaining that this store LIED to me and this is not the only occasion where this Target has provided TERRIBLE customer service.
Long story short, my best friend LOVED her gift (yay!) and I got a Wii Fit too (which is good and bad) AND I will no longer be coming to this Target unless I absolutely have no choice. I will drive the extra 5-20 miles to another Target because at least there I won't be lied to! read more
