I just had a terrible experience at this South Loop Target's Clinic. I decided to give it a try after 3 days of cold symptoms and lumps developing in the back of my throat. I had a hunch it was strep but wasn't sure. As I'm waiting for insurance coverage from my new employer, I thought this would be a reasonable option. I paid $85 for a visit with Nurse Practitioner Patricia Shanley. At the beginning of our visit she asked me some standard questions and my reasons for being there. I told her my symptoms and voiced my biggest concern, the lumps in my throat that felt like rocks. She checked my vitals and looked down my throat and said nothing. She continued with a strep test and then diagnosed me with allergies before she even got results from my test. I was in extreme pain; glands swollen, ear's plugged, extreme head aches, watery eyes, running nose and the large lumps in my throat that she completely over looked. I then voiced my concern for the second time regarding the lumps in my throat and asked if she would give it another look. She got very defensive with me and rolled her eyes. She finally looked down my throat again with out using the wooden tool doctors routinely use. I asked if she could use the tool since these lumps were way in the back of my throat. She gave me attitude once again, grabbed the tool and looked for a third time. Then she said she saw them but not to worry because they aren't obstructing my breathing passage (!?). She then looked at my strep test and said it came out negative and continued to convince me I had allergies. I've had allergies my entire life and had never experienced this much pain, nor lumps in my throat. She prescribed me over the counter allergy medicine and told me to call my doctor if it gets worse. Currently not having insurance, I have no doctor being the reason I would end up in a Target Minute Clinic in the first place. She also said they would send my strep results out and if I indeed had it, I would be notified in 3 days. That day, I called Target's Corporate for their clinic and filed a complaint. The lady seemed helpful and told me she would notify her supervisor as well as South Loop's Target Clinic and that somebody would be contacting me shortly. Yesterday, after a week and a half of no response, I called back corporate. They had no record on file regarding my complaint. I filed a new complaint and received a reference number and am currently waiting for a response. Since my visit two weeks ago, I was able to get a hold of antibiotics and have been recovering even though the nurse told me my initial strep test was negative. Only today, after two weeks, I received my strep culture that got sent out and it came back positive. I was suppose to be notified 3 days after my visit, and here it is a week and a half later.
I am horrified and extremely unsatisfied with this entire Target Clinic experience starting with Nurse Patricia " Ratched " Shanley and ending with Target Corporate. This is my first review ever written on Yelp. I find Yelp helpful but personally don't have the time to write reviews. Because I feel so strongly regarding this awful experience, I felt necessary to share my story and warn others of this poor treatment and service at South Loop's Target Clinic. read more
