Otti and I love shopping @marshalls especially when the weather isn't that great outside. We get our steps in cuz the place is huge and has almost everything you need from A-to-Z. They stock regularly with new stuff nearly every day so we usually end up buying something. I scored a gorgeous deep blue knit top by Tahari for $25, originally $88! Truly great prices and clean organized merchandise. Friendly greeters, professional, pleasant staff and cashiers. Marshalls like its sister stores, TJ Maxx and Home Goods are dog friendly! I like this Marshalls location well enough. I just don't love it. This is an easy shopping location. There are several stores encompassing one block. Street and lot parking is available, which is convenient. I usually don't stop at this location but when I do, it always seems a somewhat tired. The shelves and racks are not always fully stocked. It always seems a bit messy too. I have found items here and appreciate a good value. But there are other locations that are larger, brighter, neater and better stocked. My overall impression is it's a good discount store if you are in the neighborhood. But I wouldn't make a special trip. read more

I think most people have some degrees of familiarity with major discount store chains, such as Marshall's, T.J. Maxx, and other brands that can afford to do catchy national commercials. This Marshall's for me is a hit or miss. I occasionally can find a shirt or a light sweater that adheres the dress code of the company I work for. However, 6 times of 10 I am just browsing through since this Marshall's shares the same building with DSW and is diagonally across the road from Nordstrom Rack. It still doesn't hurt to give someone a Marshall's gift card, since the very same card can be used at any T.J. Maxx or a Home Goods store location. We were here to purchase a replacement shower curtain rod. Since we didn't want to pay for parking, and any store in Southgate Plaza can provide validation for the first ninety (90) minutes with any purchase, we took the rod home for $11 after tax. Just FYI: our first stop was the Nordstrom Rack. If you're doing any shopping at the "Nordstrom Rack" side of stores, park your vehicle at the Maxwell St. parking lot (validation available for first 90 minutes with a purchase). We assumed parking for Southgate Plaza was for all the stores on Canal. The answer was actually negative. read more

Store Review: Sweet deals! I often shop at the busy marshall's in streeterville so it was a treat stopping by this new marshall's that has been open for a while now. The store itself is clean and well organized. The store itself is smaller than others however there are lot of good items on sale. From clothes to shoes to small gifts to kitchen ware, this is a one stop shop for deals. I found the chasier were a lot friendlier than the other locations. I'm definitely a little bitter from yesterday. Called 3 times to ask if they had any more of the dog gates that I purchased at the beginning of the summer. Each time was left on hold for about a half hour before hanging up. I finally got someone and they said that they had them. Drove down there and they definitely did not have them so total time wasted was about 2 hours. I was pretty pissed, but one extra star cause I can pick up Calvin Cline undies for less. read more

I really like this Marshall's. I came here to do some x-mas shopping and I was really surprised by how every aisle is super neat and clean and how organized the racks and shelves were and how helpful the staff was. It wasn't like the other Chicago land Marshall's I've visited. First, the line was a snap, I waited maybe one minute tops at check out. Second, the fitting rooms are clean, clutter free and the fitting room attendants are so helpful, they even ask if they can get you another size! That's like unheard of in a discount store. The fitting rooms are as spacious as it gets and each room has three hooks on the wall, one labeled "maybe" another labeled "definitely" and another labeled "tomorrow." I found tons of clothes and shoes in my size really easily because each section is clearly marked according to size and type of clothing. I especially love the delicacy section in the rear center aisle. They have all sorts of interesting stew mixes, imported chocolates, wafer tins, an impressive assortment of fudge, and a variety of Mediterranean jarred olives and peppers, all appropriate for sophisticated stocking stuffers. My only beef with Marshall's in general (not this particular store) is their 8 item maximum fitting room policy, I think that's way too restrictive. read more

I like Marshall's. I can always find a great deal no matter which one I go to. This most recent time I went I bought 2 pairs of sandals and a cute dress. I also like to go there to buy sheets, blankets, and kitchen stuff. Oh and I really like how cheap pantyhose/stockings/hosiery are here. Like WAAAAY cheaper than department stores. What's the deal with that? I can get 3 or 4 pairs here vs. 1 there. Free parking with validation or if I'm feeling especially motivated, I can walk here. Very convenient. read more

I love these type of stores. I feel like they offer people good clothes for a reasonable price. The one thing I find enjoyable is searching through the racks of clothes and the shelves of shoes. Once in a while, you will find a hidden gem and it is the best feeling. You feel like all that searching was worth it. The store is organized and easy to navigate. The store is very well kept, lots of friendly staff, but this location does not contain as many designers as their downtown's counterparts. There is a parking lot in the back of the store and street parking, however it is hard to find parking / leave parking lot. read more

New Marshall's!! New Marshall's!! Sweet Ginger Brown. Once in a while I can escape work to go pick up "lunch," and by lunch I mean shop at Marshall's. Some Marshall's are really junky, and maybe this one is nice because it's still new, but who cares? It's pretty organized, and the stock seems to replenish frequently. That line moves like a well oiled machine and they always have plenty of cashiers. They have a great home section in the back that always has cheap Le Creuset. Score. I'm a little hindered with my clothing shopping currently because I'm sporting a basketball with a baby in it across my mid-section, but the men's department is nice and not too euro-trashy, and the shampoo and girly hair stuff? Forget about it! So awesome. Yes, I would like this ginormous bottle of Rusk for ten bucks. Thanks, Marshall's. read more

This place is pretty organized. One of the con is the service here... there's a snake line to pay for things at the cashier. I stood in line waiting for a good 20 minutes and noticed people who waited off the side and just paid! Seemed to be the case they knew the clerk at the register. The people at the long line just stood gawking. I'm not sure if I would like to experience this again at a different Marshall's... or this one alone. read more

Finally- South Loopers have an apparel option other than Target! Marshalls just opened up in the former Linens N Things location on the main level of the Southgate Market across from Whole Foods. The employees were extremely friendly and try to be helpful (the store just opened so I will cut them some slack). The fitting rooms are a good size and instead of single hooks, have a large wire grate with plenty of hang space. The shoe department is predominately boots (tis the season) but offers a decent selection. The women's/contemporary apparel selection seems larger than the Mag Mile counterpart. What was missing? The high-end designers. I've been spoiled by the Mag Mile location so I was disappointed that there was no Kate Spade, Stuart Weitzman, etc. Overall, this has all of the makings of a good store. It is too early to tell if the quality will sustain beyond the initial grand opening, but here is to hoping! read more

For some reason, I gravitate to the Burlington and TJ Maxx across the street. This store does not have layaway which is not a deal breaker but something to note. Not bad, but you would think for the location they would have more premium brands and more of a selection. Also parking, please note when you come into the garage the first level is for Whole Foods. You have to drive to the top of the garage for parking for the other stores. Then take the elevator down. I'm what I believe to be a reasonably stylish woman. I know (most) of my designers. I understand that denim is to be purchased mainly at Norstrom. I know that Christian Louboutin is the go-to for the sexiest shoes around. I get a secret rush out of poking through the designer duds in the boutiques around town. I get it. Needless to say, though, I LOVE me a good bargain on clothes, shoes and accessories. And in my experience there are few stores in our great city that truly offer ridiculously good deals on a consistent basis. Marshalls is just one of those places. Now, normally I have to be in the zone to really 'do' Marshalls. There's a lot of pawing through racks of fugly clothes to find your diamond in the rough. There's never a good selection of sizes. Things are really disorganized. It's a total headache. This Marshalls, though, is an anomaly. All the apparel was in correct size order and there was a huge selection of sizes to boot. Speaking of boots, this Marshalls boasts a sizable shoe selection. Perfect for this gal! Racks of purses, tons of intimates, lots of hosiery... my God. I was in heaven. My booty at the end of the shopping run? I nabbed a pair of black, patent leather heels, three shirts, two pairs of undies and three pairs of trouser socks for just a hair over $100. C'mon now. Bargain hunters, rack sifters, label hounds: the University Village Marshalls is open for business. Sadly, being Marshalls and being where it is, this location while only open for a week looked like it had been attacked from all sides for the last 10 years by fierce Huns and angry tribes. 37 people in line (I counted) and eight cashiers = 7 minutes to check out. Not bad considering how daunting it all looked at first. And hey, this sweet new Bears t-shirt cost me only $10. read more

Wow so let's start with the Manager Petora Jackson. I bought a pair of jeans a month ago, I liked them, they ripped at the crotch. I went back and wanted to exchange them for the exact same pair. I didn't have my receipt, but me thinking that this is America and an even exchange at a retail store would be appropriate, I was wrong. Not only was she unashamedly rude but she even accused me of stealing the pair of jeans. I showed her the bank statement on my phone with the exact retail price for the item and she still wouldn't take it. She embarrassed me in front of my son and wife who were with me and I think I'll probably never shop at a Marahalls or TJ Max again, due to Petora Jackson and her lack of professionalism. Places like these are big and they offer cheap prices for things but we shouldn't be forced to give them money at the expense of our dignity. read more

Location: 4 out of 5 For those living in the south loop area of Chicago, this particular location is quite convenient. It's in Southgate Market, and parking for up to 90 minutes is free in the garage with store validation. Overall Selection of Men's Clothing: 2.5 out of 5 This store is smaller than the one off Michigan Avenue, and much smaller than the one in Skokie. I can't speak to the selection and variety of women's clothing, home furnishings, or shoes, but the men's clothing selection seemed disproportionately smaller when evaluating the overall space, i.e., even though this is a smaller store than the others I've mentioned, there still should have been a larger selection of men's clothing than what they currently offer. Two quick examples: a)the dress shirts that come in plastic wrap occupy one side of an approximately 25 feet long by 6 feet high shelving unit, whereas at other locations, the dress shirts take up double, if not triple, this amount; and b)men's dress pants with a waist size of 34 in - 36 in only occupies about 10 total feet of rack space. Organization of Men's Clothing: 2.5 out of 5 I was optimistic when I read a previous reviewer's statement that everything in this store was organized by size. Alas, that is only partly true for men's clothing. The dress pants were organized fairly well by waist size (sometimes there would be a size 40 waist in the 36 section), and the casual/somewhat dressy clothes on hangers were for the most part, sorted by the correct size. The dress shirts in plastic, however - that was a real crapshoot. I was able to find shirts in my size in the bin area labeled 14.5 x 32, I was able to find shirts in my size in the bin labeled 17.5 x 34, and everywhere in between. Perhaps this was the one draw of having less selection to choose from: going through each individual bin to find the size I needed took less time because there were less shirts to choose from in the starting pool. Cost/Benefit Ratio of Men's Clothing: 4 out of 5 As with other Marshalls stores, the cost to benefit ratio is quite high. As a reference, Haggar and Perry Ellis Portfolio dress pants were 15 - 20 dollars a pair, Polo Ralph Lauren dress shirts in plastic were 35, Van Heusen/Geoffrey Beene/Donald Trump Collection dress shirts in plastic were about 20, Van Heusen Studio Collection shirts were 15 - 20, and Chaps long sleeve semi-dress shirts ranged between 15 - 20. Truly, I don't mind that I'm technically wearing "last season's collection" in any of the brands, because I tend to treat my clothes well anyway, and I have one Van Heusen dress shirt from 1999 that I still wear on a regular basis. Customer Service: 2.5 out of 5 I didn't get to experience the two ladies that were talking amongst themselves about ugly bunny slippers, and I didn't get to experience any outright ignorance either. Thankfully, my expectations of the cashiers were completely met, as I had no real expectations for any of them. They knew when to push the button that would light up their register, they seemed to be somewhat adept at wrapping up vases and glass bowls for other customers, and because of modern technology, they were able to ring up customers for the right total amounts. However, and maybe it's because they sell by volume more women's clothes, I watched as my cashier struggled monumentally to remove the plastic collar support and hanger from each of the free hanging dress shirts I got. She didn't have a problem taken the pants off of the hangers, but she did experience more obstacles when taking off the antitheft devices; specifically, it took her on average about 3 or 4 tries to get that little bugger off per article of clothing I got. I wasn't really greeted with a friendly hello, per se, but I was greeted with at least an acknowledgement, and a perfunctory, "Hello, how are you?" I've seen happier employees at a Taco Bell out in Idaho (true story, check out the review), but I am at least sympathetic to the the fact that the cashiers who work there probably had to work the week of Christmas too, and we all know how everyone (read: consumers) is on their absolute "best" behavior during that week. So would I have liked to be treated with a little more cheer? Sure. But given the perfect storm that is sometimes Marshalls (particularly after a holiday), can I blame the ladies there for being surly? Absolutely not. I do need to point out that a bilingual man, who had some semblance of being a store manager, was quite efficient at helping a Spanish speaking family with their purchase. Overall: 3 out of 5 (germane to men's clothing) The monetary value of Marshalls can't be beat, but take into account the legwork and physical labor of going through shirts or pants one by one before nonchalantly committing to efficiently and quickly make all of your purchases here. I automatically love any shop that opens in the South Gate Shopping center...so with that...Happy Grand Opening Marshalls South Loop. I went on grand opening day and everything was sparkly and clean. Nice employees filled a pretty huge store stuffed with inexpensive clothing and accessories. This is a great place to go for tops and shoes (skip it if you're looking for dresses). Lots of $9.99 tops and sweaters and the shoe section, oh my! It's huge! Love it. read more

This Marshall's has a nice layout in a convenient location. However, they consistently had the worst customer service of any Marshall's in the area. I've gone to this store over ten times and I've never had a smooth checkout experience. The cashiers don't know how to use their registers, make new tags or do most of the basics of their job. In the end, the selection isn't good enough to outweigh the frustration. read more

If you don't mind searching through racks for something that you like or wearing last year's style, you can get some incredibly good deals. Usually, this is where I get my running clothes. Why would I pay top dollar for something that's going to get destroyed anyways? The only catch is that the colors or styles are usually the less popular, but I should be running too fast for people to notice anyways. read more
