On June 4, 2026, at approximately 2:00 p.m. CST, I visited the Nordstrom Rack store in Chicago in search of a dress for a very special occasion--my graduation on June 6, 2026. This graduation marks the completion of my third advanced degree, a milestone achieved through years of hard work, sacrifice, and perseverance. As a longtime Nordstrom customer and cardholder, I decided to treat myself and purchase a dress worthy of celebrating this accomplishment. During my visit, I purchased four dresses, including a beautiful Trina Turk Tallia dress that I hoped would be the perfect choice for graduation. Unfortunately, after trying it on at home, I discovered that it did not fit. Given the significance of the occasion and the limited time before my ceremony, I returned to the same store the following day hoping to exchange it for a different size or find another suitable option. Although the dress was no longer available in my size, I found an alternative outfit consisting of a blouse and skirt and proceeded to complete my purchase while also returning the Trina Turk dress. During the return transaction, the cashier, Lamonica, informed me that she could not locate the dress purchase in the system. In an effort to assist, I immediately provided my identification and my receipt from the previous day's shopping trip. It was then discovered that the original cashier, Amanda, had inadvertently failed to ring up the dress during my initial transaction. At that point, management and Loss Prevention were contacted. While I fully understand the need to investigate discrepancies and protect company assets, what followed was both disappointing and deeply upsetting. I remained cooperative throughout the entire process. I provided identification, produced my receipt showing more than $400 in purchases, remained at the register while the matter was reviewed, and willingly answered questions. At no point did I attempt to leave, conceal information, or avoid the discussion. In fact, I was the individual attempting to return the dress. Despite my cooperation and despite the discovery that the item had not been scanned by a Nordstrom employee during the original transaction, I felt as though I was being treated with suspicion rather than respect. The tone and manner in which I was addressed left me feeling embarrassed, humiliated, and unfairly judged. What made the experience particularly painful was the context. I was already disappointed that the dress I had carefully selected for such a meaningful life event did not fit. Instead of receiving assistance in resolving what was clearly an unfortunate mistake, I found myself feeling as though I was being viewed as someone who had intentionally done something wrong. The situation occurred in front of my sister, who was visiting from Louisiana to celebrate this milestone with me. What should have been an exciting and joyful shopping experience became one of the most uncomfortable customer service interactions I have ever experienced. I want to be clear that Amanda, the original cashier, was kind, professional, and welcoming during my first visit. Mistakes happen, and I understand that no employee is perfect. My concern is not that an error occurred. My concern is how I was treated once the error was discovered. What was most troubling was the absence of empathy. No one acknowledged the inconvenience. No one apologized for the confusion. No one recognized that I was a loyal customer attempting to return an item that had not been properly processed due to an internal mistake. After my purchase was completed, I was left to bag and organize my items myself, further reinforcing the feeling that I was not valued as a customer. As a longtime Nordstrom shopper and cardholder, this experience was heartbreaking. One of the reasons customers choose Nordstrom is because of its reputation for exceptional customer service and its commitment to treating people with dignity and respect. Unfortunately, that was not the experience I had. I am sharing this feedback not simply because I was disappointed, but because I believe there is a valuable lesson here. Procedures and loss prevention protocols are important, but they should never come at the expense of basic customer care. When an investigation reveals that a discrepancy resulted from an internal error, customers deserve acknowledgment, professionalism, and, at a minimum, a sincere apology for the inconvenience. I hope this experience serves as a learning opportunity for everyone involved. A simple expression of empathy could have completely changed the outcome of this interaction. This store was much smaller than I expected. Unless I missed something, which I don't think I did, there is no upstairs, and a one-level store right here also surprised me. Is your typical Nordstrom Rack. They had a good selection of shoes and I found a pair of Brooks tennis shoes with was just what I was looking for. Also had a good selection of sunglasses, and I picked up two pair so I guess I have plenty of them with which to accessorize now! I got lucky with parking; there was a space right outside. Middle of the day though so that was probably key. I was surprised to see that they have a parking validation machine inside; it's self-serve and right by the registers. They probably won't ask you if you need parking validation, so don't forget to stamp your ticket. read more

I needed to return a sweater and thought a Saturday afternoon would be a great time to do it. For safety reasons. I avoid shopping after dark since I usually park on the street and walk to the various stores in the area. Well as I was returning to my car, gunshots rang out and the neighborhood became a crime scene! So I guess my plan has flaws. The incident aside, I thoroughly enjoy this store. It is always fully stocked with new items. I like the clothing and shoe departments. But most times you can find great home decor and bedding too. The store is always really clean and organized, which makes shopping so much easier. On this visit, I needed to make a return. The young girl at the register was incredible. She was so pleasant and explained the process and what she was doing. The entire interaction was brief and went smoothly. I like being able to take care of business without glitches. Her sunshine personality just added to the great experience. Crime can happen anywhere so I won't let the crazy shooting prevent me from shopping at this great store. I'll just be prepared for anything to happen, like I always do living in a big city. read more

This store is organized and well stocked. We've always been lucky finding things here. The best time to go is early evening as there are monthly parkers during the day. This time my sister and I set out to look for shoes. When you try on shoes you usually try on more than one pair. I noticed an employee going up and down the aisles on both sides. I think he was going around in circles. I saw him 3x's. Then my sister came over from another aisle. We had 3 pairs on the floor. He then walked by again. But this time he asked us to put the shoes back when we're done. That fumed both of us. We were not going to leave them on the floor. But it was rude of him to tell us to pick up after ourselves. We have been shopping at NR for over 10 yrs. We almost walked out and wasn't planning on coming back. But we both found shoes we wanted. It's his job to pick up shoes that are left. It was mentioned to the mgr but not sure if she is going to say anything to him. He works at a retail store. Not all customers leave shoes on the floor but if so, they are going to straighten up and put things back on the shelf. Not sure if we'll be back to this one. SHOPPERS BEWARE - I came in here to get some Christmas gifts for my family and ended up trying on a few pairs of jeans for myself. I kid you not, when I got home later that evening I noticed I had RINGWORM on my leg. I have never had ringworm in my entire life and I don't go in public with my legs out (it's winter) so I KNOW it had to be from this store. Currently, all Nordstrom rack locations are having the "clear-the-rack" sale; all red-tag clearance items will receive an additional 25% off the lowest-ticket prices. I wasn't aware of this promotion before walking in, but it makes sense because they usually have this sale during holidays (Valentine'Day and President's Day). I typically have more fun shopping at a Nordstrom Rack when they marked down the soon "off-season" merchandize. I saw some puffer coats and cold-winter accessories at great prices. Some were marked all the way down to 80% off! I must have an excellent self-control in order to not go crazy in here. I'm always impressed by their selections on women's and men's shoes. I just need to wear out all my shoes in order to purchase more, even though this will take awhile since I'm such a shoe-whore! I believe I've mentioned in my other Nordstrom Rack reviews, but let me say this one more time. If you're a man with large feet, Nordstrom Rack is the best place to shop for ultra-large shoes. My hubby wears a size 13, and he can easily find something he likes (the other great location is DSW). This particular location appears to have garage parking, but the buses are accessible nearby. The CTA 16th./18th. bus drops off at Canal and Clinton. On the other hand, the CTA 157 (Streeterville/Taylor) during AM and PM rush hours services as well (get off at Canal/Taylor stop). If the El trains are better options for you, the CTA Roosevelt Red/Green/Orange line station is a ten (10) minute-walk east from this Nordstrom Rack and the rest of South Loop shopping zone. read more

I don't know what's going on with this store but it has to be one of the worst NRs in the country. Every time I come here I leave empty handed. There's never any decent merchandise here. Being in the neighborhood yesterday, I decided to stop in to look for a pair of shoes. And to my dismay, it was the most abysmal offering that I have seen in any Nordstrom Rack anywhere to date! I mean NOTHING!! The designer section of shoes was GONE and what they had left looked like it came either straight from China or the back of a truck. On my way out I looked over at a clothing rack or two, and didn't bother to peruse; it clearly would have been a waste of time. Sad. Honestly, what's the point of keeping this store open? My wife has been waiting ever since she saw the build sign go up. One of her favorite stores. This place is absolutely spotless, fully staffed, and the merchandise is spot on. Nordstrom rack is nicely tucked between a Dick's Sporting goods for sportster and next to a Starbucks and whole foods for the hipster. 3/8/20 I walked into this store and was greeted by a security with a very big gun on her waist not covered up or nothing. Very traumatizing I couldn't even shop because I'm wondering why would Nordtrom have or allow someone to work in their store intimidating customers. My anxiety was so high when I left the store and still high the next day. I'm still upset and angry. What if kids walked in this store they are greeted by a big gun! Been a big fan of NR for years so was super excited to see this one open in the South Loop. Unfortunately, this particular location is a hot mess. I've seen better organization at Ross and way better selection at every other NR I've ever been too. If you are looking for a NR to shop at you will want to make the trip to one of the other locations (I'm partial to the Lincoln Park spot). If this is the first NR you've ever been to, I'd say try some others before making a decision if it's for you. I gave an extra star here because the people that worked here were helpful and nice. Maybe even more so than other spots. But I don't go to NR for great customer service, it's supposed to be about the clothes. read more

Ordinarily, if you look at the words "Nordstrom Rack" and then separate them and judge them individually you're thinking cheery thoughts and five stars apiece. So when you initially see the words "Nordstrom Rack" conjoined on the marquee outside of their store you get all titillated and excited about the prospect of double the fun. And then you go in, you find nothing and you realize, once again, you've stepped into yet another Soderstrom Rack and the whole is, indeed, worth less than the sum of the parts. I do not have anything to say but how good the store is. I've been shopping and going in here for a lot of times and the place is always clean, every rack and selection are organized, well-stocked and of course they always have new stocks. The store provides literally everything that we needed when it comes to clothes, shoes and other accessories. They also have friendly and attentive staffs that are always willing to help. Plus, the prices are fair and reasonable and they have sales and discounts regularly. There are lot of Nordstrom store around but this location is my favorite. read more

Overall I really like the new location. I've had a couple of great finds so far in my 3 visits. 1) a full size TUMI suitcase for $398 (frequent fliers, I don't have to tell you how good a deal this is.) 2) a nice pair of John Varvatos Chukka boots for $120 (size 14 which is the number one reason I love Nordstrom to begin with) 3) and some 14th and Union leather drivers for $60 The store itself is very clean and organized which is to be expected since it has just recently opened. Overall a lot of cool merchandise but you have to look hard to find the right stuff for the right price. Another great thing is they seem to have a really large selection of men's professional attire. Occasionally you can make the Men's Warehouse next door even look bad with some of the prices. My only negative thus far is that 2 out of the 3 times the checkout lines have moved at an alarmingly slow rate. A lot of racks have handhelds and can check you out anywhere in the store. Went here on Saturday afternoon and was glad that there are only a few people. The store is clean and bright, racks are all organized and most of the items are well stocked. I like a certain dress and the size doesn't fit me and there is this staff who is so nice and friendly and helped me on finding my size. Luckily she found me one and it fits me perfectly. I received a pair of UGG boots for Christmas from my daughter. The boots were a bit tight so I went to the Nordstrom Rack in the south loop to exchange them for another pair. I was told by the sales clerk that because the boots were ordered on line that an exchange could not be done, because UGG Boots order from the UGG website are on another different system and it could not be done, but she could credit the amount back to my daughters credit card. My question is, if you can credit the credit card, why can't you make and exchange, seems like the same system too me. I don't know if the young lady knew how to make the exchange or just did not want to go through the steps for the exchange. Anyway, I had her make the credit, (By the way my daughter lives in Denver) and will never step inside of another another Nordstrom Rack again, they do not seem to have the customer in mind. read more

This place is pretty amazing. I think it's the second best Rack in the city. North Ave is the best. It's well laid out and the staff is professional and helpful. The only issue is there's so much demand and interest for the place I wish it was bigger. I bought an amazing Tumi backpack that was normally $300 for like $90. I look chic and professional with my backpack. They also have really high end brands for a fraction of the price. Tory Burch flats, paper denim, Tumi luggage, Bliss Spa products, and much more. I wish they had a larger selection, but they have plenty of parking and other shops right next door and across the street. You won't be disappointed. read more

Yesterday was the worst shopping experience I have ever had at Nordstrom, Nordstrom rack or any store in general. I was checking out around 8:15pm on Monday 3-12-2019, I have to be very exact because I would like you to know which employee(blonde short hair)it was because I didn't get her name. So as I was shopping, I came upon a stuffed animal which had a clearance tag on it for $4.98 so I was going to get it for my niece, and then came upon a pair of Cole Haan flats that had a sticker marked at $49.98 and also got some other toys all ready to check out. When the cashier scanned the stuffed animal she told me that it wasn't $4.98 it was actually $7.50 so I told her I won't get it then, then came the shoes. She scanned the shoes and looked at me funny and then went to check on another computer the price for the shoes and she came over telling me this sticker isn't for this shoe, so I said to her, well looks like you guys have the wrong stickers on everything today. So she continues to(very loudly) so that everyone can hear that the shoes aren't this price. So I asked her, then how much are the shoes? She starts going on pointing out enunciating every word "these are COLE HAAN shoes",the sticker is not and that she doesn't know the price for the shoes. At that point I was so embarrassed so I asked her why she was talking to me as if she thinks I purposely swapped the prices or took a sticker from another shoe and stuck it on. She then answered me that no she is not giving me an attitude, I'm the one that's giving her an attitude! And tells me she's been working an 8 hour shift so she's not putting up with this. I don't care how long your shift is, you work at a retail shop and your job is to provide customer service! She continued to yell at me so I told her, you know what, I'm not buying anything! I had to carry my niece which was ready to burst into tears out of the store without her toys because she had embarrassed me in front of all the other customers! I always experience problems when I return online orders, I always request that the money is put towards a gift card instead of waiting for it to be put back in my paypal account. The cashiers always assume the money will automatically be added to my gift card that was Previously used without scanning it !! And like always I am delayed for at least 30 / 60 minutes because the transactions is saying "returned to gift Card" remind you they NEVER scan the card. thank goodness for their manager SAXON , he always get it solved. LONG STORY SHORT...insist the cashier scan your gift card!! read more
