Listen! If top tier was a restaurant, it's Tao, Chicago. I love this place! It's beautiful from the moment you walk in. I love it. The food! Amazing. Presentation, taste, all of it. The locals don't like Tao for whatever reason. I thought everything was delicious! The presentation, ambience, all of it. Loved it. Now, we had a reservation. Even with the reservation, waited 1hr to be seated. Insane. There are no "walk-ins" for this place. They are booked solid. Another thing, they have the smallest tables known to man. Because they're trying to maximize the amount of guests they can host at a time, they have these little tiny tables that you can't fit all your drinks and your food on simultaneously. I like to spread out at dinner, and not feel cramped. You can literally pick the food off of the guest table next to you because you're so close to them, and your table is so tiny, your wine glass or your champagne glass is always on the verge of hitting the floor, because you can't fit your sushi on the table at the same time. That was crazy work. But even still, being here made me really excited. This place is nice, nice. I can't explain it. They have fake dragon flies on the ceiling lanterns, like, come on! Nice touch. This place is huge too. But even still, you have no space. They have a night club upstairs as well! I mean come on. I booked the reservation late to go to the club on the 2bd floor after, but I was too tired. I will definitely come back here anytime I'm in CHI. Loved it. I would not recommend if you have no patience, get angry when the waitress is too busy with too many tables to remember all your items, if you are not open to waiting 1hr to be seated after your reservation time, and if you need space to stretch out when eating. Probably the worst Tao location in the United States in service compared to Los Angeles, San Francisco (before it closed), and Las Vegas. We went to today for Father's Day, and the brunch experience left a lot to be desired. We weren't given utensils, and it took time to find a server to bring them to us and we weren't given knives (the brunch offered red meat dishes). We saw our server twice and the worst part was the Asian female server working ignored me twice when I was asking for the check and when I finally got her attention for the bill she never brought it. This experience left such a sour taste in my mouth. Tao Chicago puts the whole Tao brand to shame and I'll be telling both my schools community and international friends to avoid at all costs and stick with the Las Vegas and Los Angeles locations. read more

TAO knows what works. Great food! Great cocktails! Great ambiance! Great decor! It's a vibe and a great experience. But one thing I'm noticing at all the TAOs I've visited is some of the staff at check-in aren't very friendly. I don't know if they're tired or other but some have this demeanor and body language that just doesn't fit the whole experience. It's a bit of a turn off when one is so excited to finally arrive and make it for their reservation and one or Two girls at check in seem deflated and underwhelming. Also- TAO you stressed me out about running five minutes behind and I arrived and you made me wait for over 30 minutes to sit me and party down. What's up with that? You're lucky you're COOL. During the winter time, I finally got a chance to experience the oh so popular Tao brunch. I came with my girlfriend and her family and we had an amazing time. The food was excellent, and I would have to say my favorite item was the bao buns. The beef bao was both soft and tender while packing an endless amount of flavor in those tiny little bites. I also helped myself to the desert section at the end, and those chocolate covered strawberries were to die for lol. read more

Beautiful space! However, there is some need for improvement when it comes to the brunch. First, all the food was room temperature. I feel the food would have been better if it was hot. I got an omelette made and it was delicious but I think that is because it was the only thing I ate that was hot. Second, the music was mostly rap and I don't know about you but that is not what I think of when eating brunch at an asian cuisine place. Third, the price point is too high for what you get...$60. Had an incredible night at TAO Chicago Restaurant. The atmosphere is stunning, with an upscale, energetic vibe that makes the entire experience feel like a special occasion. We got the fried chicken gyoza as an appetizer, and it was easily the best dish of the night. For our entrees, we ordered the shrimp tempura roll and the spicy tuna roll, and we enjoyed both. We definitely felt full by the end of the meal, which was surprising because it is usually hard to feel full off sushi. I have been to the NYC location before, and I will say I enjoyed my meal at the Chicago location significantly more. In terms of drinks, the cocktails were well made. However, the shots were pretty watered down, which was disappointing. It's definitely an aesthetic spot. However, the biggest downside is the service. We were a relatively large party but were on time for our reservation, and we still had to wait over a half hour before we were even seated. Second stop for restaurant week, TAO!!! I've been waiting to try the infamous Tao. Known for their Las Vegas/LA restaurant/club, I was super excited when they opened in Chicago. Upon entry, you are blown away by the decor with the grand staircase leading down into the main dining area overseen by the giant Buddhist goddess. It's so dope. Their chill bar area is a MUST for happy hour! Upon arrival, our table was not ready just yet, so my daughter and I chilled by the bar and ordered charred edamame and their martini flight. I ordered the edamame because of the seasonings HOWEVER WHYYY did I order this appetizer knowing I don't like anything char broiled!!???!?? My daughter and I opted for the restaurant week menu, starting with the spicy tuna on crispy rice and she got the chicken satay. Both were MID! My crispy rice was super chewy like stale and I prefer my peanut sauce with my satay a bit spicy ( just my personal preference). For our entrees, I got the lobster pad Thai and my daughter got the wagyu beef. I didn't enjoy the pad Thai initially . It tastes like the flavors didn't blend so I waited until the next day to try. It was a bit better but still a no unfortunately. My daughter's wagyu beef was tender, perfectly cooked. The flavor was ok. By the time dessert came around, we were full. Dessert to go is better anyway. I opted for the matcha crème brûlée but our waiter said it doesn't travel well so I got the banana pudding and my daughter ordered something chocolatey. I did not have high expectations because the first time I came I don't remember the food being good. We came a restaurant week and the portion sizes were great. We ordered the veggie eggroll and spicy tuna tartare for appetizer. That girl was thick and crispy and had a good taste with the good texture on the outside. The spicy tuna tartare had an amazing spicy crispy rice and the tuna of high-quality on top and it paired well with the eel sauce. Next, we ordered Pat Thai and cashew chicken. The pad thigh was not too sweet and came with a lot of vegetables inside such as tofu and mushroom and a lot of veggies and tasted really great and not too saucy. The cashew chicken was phenomenal with a nice coating on the outside and a little bit of stickiness in the sauce with cashews and pepper sprinkled throughout. We also ordered the cauliflower side dish, which was great, but just a little bit too saucy. If it was a little bit more crisp, it would happen more enjoyed. For dessert, we tried the banana pudding, mousse cake, and Matcha crème brûlée. The crème brûlée stood out the most with the most unique taste, and Matcha flavored blending, which worked really well. If you are not a much a lover, after trying this, you will be. The service was phenomenal and our drinks were constantly refilled, and the manager even came by to check on us. I've been wanting to visit Tao and finally stopped by. I came for a night club performance but stopped by the restaurant area for a bite to eat. I ended up sitting at the bar area which had ample seats. The bartender I interacted with was friendly enough. He was patient with my party but seemed very distracted. Unfortunately Tao is what you would expect it to be. It's about who you know in order to get optimal service. The group next to me seemed to know a few employees which stopped by multiple times throughout the night to do shots with them. It was very awkward because the person gave so much attention to the group that my party only had one drink and opted to not get another drink. The bartender finally asked if we wanted a second drink by the time we were ready to close out the tab. The prices for the drinks and food are what you expect for the area. I got a basic salmon and avocado roll for 22+ dollars. Any other sushi spot I'd laugh at them but when in Rome you order the over priced rolls. The roll was extremely fresh and delicious but not worth making this a regular spot. Tao is a place you need to pull out your finest of clothes. It's beautiful inside and massive. It's definitely a place you need to make a reservation unless you luck out and score a seat at the bar. We tried the AYCE brunch at Tao on a Sunday morning. I guess we had booked the first reservation slot of the day because doors did not open until a little after our reservation time and we (plus a few other parties) had to wait outside on the sidewalk. Staff were great when they came around but it would've been nice if they were more attentive on drink refills. They were very nice, though! Especially the staff on the brunch bar. The setup was a little tight and hard to navigate, especially combined with the low lighting. Add in a plate full of food and some tables/stations separated by the grand staircase, it was a little precarious. The food was really good but I would've liked more prime entree options - there were two options on the carving station. It's dim sum so it's a given, but all other options were very carb-heavy and you're served by a staff member so they control the ratios, say if you were getting a noodle fish with meat in it. We also had it noted that we were visiting for our anniversary. We got a brief congratulations when we were seated but nothing additional. I know that's not required but I probably would choose another restaurant (for multiple factors) if you were visiting for a special occasion. I can't talk about Tao without bringing up the ambiance. There is plenty of room for seating & the setting is very intimate. This is the perfect spot for a date or happy hour. I was able to try a mini martini flight and the potstickers which were super good. I plan to go to the nightclub at some point. read more

Came here for the AYCE Brunch and it was good such a variety of Asian food and sushi. Really loved the sushi which is tucked away in the corner. There was such a variety of food from pork belly to bao and dim sum. Also some Vietnamese food. I would say their canh chua or hot and sour soup was alright. Needed more flavor but really liked how the bean sprouts were on the side. The Banh mi was a little too hard and some of the food like sushi were sitting out for a little long. I would say having oyster unlimited which a great. We got about 5 oysters and it had such a variety of topping. The star of the show was the dessert table in the back. It was so good! So many options to choose from so save your stomach for a platter of desserts. The ambiance inside was great! Similar music to the club which I have been to and it's separate from the restaurant. Came here for an early dinner and started with a Casa De Clase. It was a double tequila drink in a cool mezcal blue cup with fresh flowers. Delicious and not too sweet! Then we moved onto the tuna tartare crispy rice, the lamb Toriyaki skewers and the checking gyoza. All were cooked to perfection and were actually hot! At every place I go to I order 3 sake sashimi, which these came out in a beautiful presentation over ice and a light. I'm absolutely obsessed with the happy hour at TAO!!! It's kind of an unexpected place for happy hour, but I think it is one of the best selections, atmospheres, and price points in the city for hh. Also, the happy hour runs from 5-8pm so much more generous hours than other places. The signature cocktails are $10. Definitely get the lychee martini!! Also, they have a tiny tini flight of three mini martinis for $15. Such a fun idea. The food here is also so good. Some of my favorite things are the tuna crispy rice, the tuna sashimi pizza with caviar, and the chili guacamole. Many of the items are only $7 and substantial portions. We decided to try Tao for their endless brunch based on a video I saw on Instagram. The last time I was in that building was at Excalibur which was a bit nostalgic as well. The staff was very friendly and the decor was beautiful. The brunch is buffet style but many of the stations have someone to assist you. Everything was very fresh and there were diverse selections for vegetarians. The seafood and sushi was very flavorful. My favorite was the seasoned tofu that tasted similar to a light teriyaki. My biggest critique was that the food temperature was barely warm. Items that should be hot were lukewarm at most. We also ordered two alcoholic drinks as well. My bestie and I came for the endless brunch to celebrate. We booked a reservation for right at opening which is good since we got to see all the pretty displays. The displays don't get replenished as fast so there's only less and less options throughout the morning. Example: the sushi slowly running out of fish based rolls and having mostly avocado/california rolls left. Or the fondue bar not having strawberries left. We walked around first to see what was available. Then tried one of everything first before going back to get plates of our favorites. I wanted a latte but they only have regular milk and almond milk. So I put some of the fruits/mints/lemons into my water for a free Fresca. Lots of people had cute cocktails but I don't drink alcohol so can't comment. They also have an add on for endless mimosas and another for 1oz caviar experience which don't seem very worth it. I ate a lot of oysters. Most of them were not fishy, just lightly briney. My only issue was getting pieces of broken shell which can be dangerous. We tried a lot of the desserts. I put fondue chocolate covered strawberries inside a sponge cake from the Thai hot bar and made my own dessert. That was my favorite. The pork belly was a bit too hard and over salted. The Thai dishes didn't have enough salt. The steamed buns were good and the Peking duck bun was soft but there wasn't much filling. Overall a fun experience and we got to taste a variety of items. Not sure if I would do endless brunch again if the menu stays the same since there's nothing in particular I'm excited about. Another 2026 Restaurant Week Goodie! Years ago I worked at Excalibur and Vision Nightclubs that were where Tao is today, so I was excited to see how they re-did the building. They had valet parking in front for $20, so that was super easy. The big front wooden doors are still there, but that is one of the few things that stayed the same. Upon walking in their lounge area was very nice, and chill. We grabbed a couple of drinks while waiting for our table to open up. We were seated pretty quickly, and began our culinary journey. The ambiance is very nice, and I am a big fan of the over-the-top decorations like the large statue of Quan Yin with the projections over it as well as the beautiful lamps and extra large tassels and curtains. For food we tried all of the appetizers available since there were three of us. They were all delicious, but my favorites went in this order: 1. Tuna tartar with crispy rice 2. Lettuce wraps 3. Chicken satay For our entree all three of us went for the sirloin steak, medium rare, and all three were perfectly cooked and seasoned! The meat literally melts in your mouth, and the sauce that they give for dipping accents the meat perfectly. Dessert we did the same as the appetizers; Try all 3! Favorites in order: 1. Match Creme Brulé - Lightly sweet, not punch-you-in-the-face matcha, but a perfect mix. 2. Banana pudding - Seems straight forward, but they put a caramelized banana on top with fortune cookie crumbles. 3. Chocolate Buddha - The dark chocolate mousse is super rich The DJ kept great music going during our whole meal, but at a perfect volume, so that we could also enjoy conversation at the table. Came to TAO for my birthday dinner with friends. Our reservation was for 7:30, they required most of the party to be present before seating us. Once seated, we had a gorgeous round table at the top of the stairs perfect, since the lower level looked pretty packed. The ambiance was stunning dark, sexy, and Asian-inspired. Definitely a vibe. The hosts were sweet and accommodating. Our waitress was kind but a bit slow to check back in; however, the supporting staff helped pick up the slack and brought good energy. I did the prix fixe menu (appetizer, entrée, dessert). The portions were on the smaller side..especially the appetizer..but the flavors were great. The banana pudding dessert was divine. My friend's lobster fried rice was another standout...super flavorful. Prices were a little high but expected for the experience. I was hoping to transition from dinner to the club, but it required extra cover that night due to a celebrity DJ (who wasn't named), so we ended up going elsewhere. I give it 4 stars - 5 for the ambience and 3 for the food (factoring in the price). The restaurant is very very impressive! The decor is beautiful, sophisticated, and has a lot of nice details. We loved the gigantic Buddha statue overlooking the dining room and the staircase coming down. The textiles, the lights, high ceilings, so many things! You can be seated on the staircase leading down to the dining room, which looked great for lounging and people-watching, but not very comfortable to eat a meal. Our group of 7 sat in the dining room. My cocktail was fine, it tasted good but it seemed to not have much alcohol. The cocktails that my friends ordered at the bar before dinner seemed to be better. We had the spicy tuna tartare on crispy rice and each piece was the most delicious bite. Don't expect a traditional tuna tartare. You'll have the flavors of tina tartare, with good texture and crunch, and a spicy kick. We also got the dim sum sampler, which had a good mix of meat, seafood, and veggie options. It was a surprisingly good dish to get for a group of people with specific dietary preferences. For mains, I shared the crispy coconut halibut and the drunken lobster pad Thai. Maybe we just ordered wrong, but I did not like them. The lobster in the pad Thai didn't have good flavor and the whole dish kind of fell flat. I thought the presentation or the lobster would be a little done up, but I've definitely had better looking and better tasting pad Thai elsewhere. The halibut came with a crying tiger sauce that I didn't like, it was tangy, and fish sauce based. Maybe that's our bad for not asking more details about the sauce. Everyone else seemed to really enjoy their dishes. I had a taste of the cod and the cashew chicken. The umami flavors of the cod were nice and the cashew chicken was moist. The waiter service was nice but seems a little unnecessary especially if you are not ordering alcoholic drinks. Sunday brunch at TAO is buffet style you serve yourself. The food alone would give this restaurant a 2/5 but the ambiance really leaves an impression! I tried to taste a little of everything. The sushi was nice, they had about 7 or 8 options of nigiri and hand rolls. The nigiri is my go to, I remember thinking it was very soft while biting into it. They also had cute little ramen bowls, the ramen it's self taste nice and close to a traditional Tokyo style noodle, the toppings were few and offered little to the flavor profile. The dessert section was very cute and probably my favorite layout! The chocolate fountain was place next to their indoor koi fish pond. The same koi fish pond located at the base of their giant goddess statue. I told you they have good ambiance! The gyoza were not the best they lacked the flavor complexity of the most basic potstickers. It tasted like a mini chicken meatball in a gyoza wrapper. The bao buns were so cute and branded with the TAO logo. The meat inside gave generic mince meat with an overly sweet sauce. (Duck, Duck, Goat is a Chicago restaurant that I recommend for a great BBQ pork bao bun and amazing fried rice). The chicken slider had a nice tangy flavor. The wagyu slider would have been good if they were not over seasoned. The meat its self was very soft but there was an intense peppery spicy flavor. The carved meat section was ok. I got the lamb with its sauce pairing, both were bland. I circled back for the ham it was definitely the better option of the two. I almost forgot, I also tried their chili chicken stripes, they were nice and chewy. I did notice it was a hit or miss how much meat was in them. Some were mostly breading. Most of the cake desserts are layered with crème to stretch the bite sized morsels. The chocolate fountain has about three options of food on a stick to dip in it. Easter bunny marshmallows, strawberries, and small Rice Krispie squares. They also had cookies, macarons, and banana pudding crème cups. The price is normally $65. But to my surprise on Easter Sunday they decided to charge $78, this was not noted anywhere on the website or when I made the reservation. No drinks included not even orange juice, only water. With tax, tip, and the service fee $220 was the total for two people. If the food was better it would feel more worth it. I usually can't eat too much and I think I ate like 3 and a half small plates. There are better tasting options for less in Chicago! The happy lamb is like $30-$40 per person depending on what type of meat you want. You also get a free meal on your birthday there, as long as you bring one other person who pays. I hope TAO uses that money to hire a chef. read more

I had been to TAO in Vegas so was eager to see how similar this one was. The entrance was very upscale and offered a coat check at the host stand. When you walk in you're wildly surprised at how big and open the space is. There's a bar on the top floor and the seasons is all along the floor level. The energy was electric inside. The device was insane. There were people everywhere filing waters, delivering drinks, singing happy birthday, delivery food. The place itself was amazing. Now we came with a large party of 28 and it's always hard to make sure food is served hot and on time. Let me tell you, this place has it down to a science. Our appetizers came out piping hot. Entrees were the same! We ordered family style so everyone could pick their favorites. I'm still thinking about our meal, the service and the place itself. The steak and vegetables were all tender and flavorful. The chicken gyoza and lobster wontons were soooo good. If forced to choose between the two, go with the chicken gyoza (pan fried)---still thinking about those flavors. The cocktails were beautifully presented and tasted great. Thank me later for recommending you order the LOTUS COLADA...Coconut Cream, Pineapple, Lime, Orgeat, Coconut Water. Delicious!!! Zero proof but still AMAZING. The plating and presentation of all food was top tier. Oh and this is not typical restaurant food. It is clear they use high quality ingredients and take great care in executing and delivering high quality food and drinks. Ohh and don't forget dessert. The GIANT FORTUNE COOKIE is one of the best desserts ever. The cookie is light and crispy filled with yummy vanilla and chocolate mousse and the best assortment of sweet and delicate fruit. It is a very high energy restaurant with spectacular decor. The wait staff were professional and charming. The location is excellent at the corner of Dearborn & Ontario. We made reservations for the all you can eat brunch at this beautiful restaurant. I had a sense of dejavue when I walked towards the building. We checked our coats in and then checked in the front desk. We hangout at the bar area while waiting for our table. Food was spread out by desserts station in the back, sushi station on the side, hot foods in the center, and meats on the otherside. Restaurant was busy and full of customers, 90s music playing to set the vibe. Later on, I learned this place is also a nightclub. An upscale dining establishment along with nightclub space with great atmosphere and service. The food and drinks were good and the service was quick and very friendly. The place was packed and although there was a bit of a wait to get the food and drinks, the server was very pleasant and quick to recognize the delay. We sat in the bar area of what is the nightclub part and it had great music and vibe and we enjoyed our time there. read more

I wish I took more photos so I could share here, but WOW! What a fun experience! I've been to the TAO in Las Vegas, and I have to say this location is much better! Loved the atmosphere and the step down with seating in between for smaller parties. I came in for a business dinner. Everyone ordered a bunch of small plates, rolls, apps, etc to share instead of doing apps and entrees and I found the Xperia de to be much more enjoyable that way! Shared plates, conversation, etc was a great way I spend the evening. Had a few lychee tinis and they were phenomenal, as always. Next time I'm in Chicago I definitely want to return here for dinner! read more

Tao has really great happy hour deals- especially love the 3 mini martinis for $15. They are very tasty and strong and a good deal for the cost. Get there early for happy hour, because the lounge spots fill up quickly. The service was very bad, but they were busy so it's understandable. However they had one waitress working the entire lounge and bar area, and we would wait 30 minutes in between drink rounds just for her to come over and ask if we wanted anything else. read more

I've been to Tao a few times over the years and most recently for the brunch buffet. The only issue I had was the wait after having a reservation, but everything else was great. There is a pretty good variety of food and for me, I wanted to taste everything. I tried one of most things available and left super stuffed but appreciating the value. Standouts were the duck omelette and shrimp shumai. If you enjoy a brunch buffet this is one to try. read more
