I have been wanting to try this place for a very long time. I love Thai food, but they are definitely like a Pan Asian fusion. The customer service was great. I got water and a menu immediately and the server was very helpful with what to choose on the menu. I got the shrimp shumai which were perfect. The beef basil bao which I got LOVED! I got 4 to go! For my main I got the Korean spicy bowl with the fish, which was Sol fish, it was amazing but I feel like the flavor was missing something or it was all at the bottom of the bowl. There is an open patio outside and a restroom. It's also conveniently located next to the Blue line station. The servers are really nice. The only minor issue I had was that I pressed the button for service twice but no one came until someone walked by and I had to verbally communicate with them. I've always passed by this place on the blue line but never got a chance to go in until today and I'm so glad I did! It's a cozy restaurant with plenty of seating. Very casual feel to it. We ordered a few appetizers and they were all amazing. I thought the gui chai and the dipping sauce it came with was especially good; I was surprised by how simple yet flavorful it was. It was such a cute establishment with a store front look inside the restaurant. There's also a dessert drink place inside too under a different storefront look. They also have a cute outdoor seating area with umbrella shade. Unfortunately there were mosquitoes and bugs out so we couldn't really eat in peace. The pad Thai tofu was not bad in my opinion. The flavor comes through and tofu was a good firmness level. Bean sprouts were fresh. The chicken satay was also good, I liked that they cut it up and placed on vegetables. Peanut sauce was on the sweet side but very creamy yet not oily. The pickled veggies had a good variety, still a bit sweet to me but it is what you would expect from Thai foods. Very flavorful. The kao soi had a hint of spice, more umami than typical Thai places but still had sweetness to it. The noodles weren't very flavorful, and the vegan duck was a let down-- It's made differently than the ones typical of NYC Thai restaurants, so it just didn't hit as much. - Sweet Rice Durian: As a durian fanatic, I loved this dessert-- it's a unique one that you won't find on most other Thai menus in Chicago (other than at Sticky Rice, which is owned by the same family). Since I am vegetarian, I was drawn to a few of the vegan options on the menu, particularly the Vegan BBQ Pork Noodles! Oh honey, the sight of it with all of its features literally made my mouth salivate. I admit, I am weak when it comes to anything barbecue! There, I said it, tehehe. And I loved that there were spice levels because as one who is not fond of spicy hot foods, it played an influence in me ordering as well. It took thirty-five minutes from the time my order was acknowledged by Grubhub to the arrival of it at my residence. A shout out to the Grubhub delivery driver for making that happen in that astonishing time. I could not resist moaning after eating each delicious forkful, or um, slurpful! The Potstickers were lined up perfectly on a small platter with dipping sauce on the side, they had a nice crunch to them. I ordered the Basil Chicken. It was very tasty, with lots of red & green peppers and enough to take home for later. My friend ordered Kao Gai Tod which is fried battered chicken, cilantro, and sweet chili sauce. It was a good-sized order, she wound up taking almost the whole thing home after getting full on the appetizers. It's a nice clean palace, including the bathrooms. I got the Korean spicy chicken and a mango smoothie with boba. I was very satisfied with the ease of the online ordering system and the description of the menu items. When I arrive my items were not ready but that was my fault because I scheduled it too far out.. The hostess was great about getting my drink and making sure that my items were prepared timely. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated and has a pretty dope sound system. They had a separate waiting area and also room for people to stretch out if dining inside. To the food: I believe that my choice of order was really well selected. I was happy that my entree included plenty of chicken and fresh vegetables. I was pleasantly surprised at all the spice that was in my meal. I will say that this meal was way more spicier than I anticipated, however ver it was really flavourful. I would suggest that if you cannot handle real spice, you do not get this menu item. The amount of food was reasonable for the price and I did have leftovers the next day. My mango smoothie was fire and I tore it up on my walk back home. The dishes, service, ambiance...all solid, but what give this place 5 stars for me are the desserts! Tried the coconut ice cream and nam khang sai (Thai shaved ice) and they were both absolutely phenomenal. If you're into Asian desserts (or any kind of desserts, for that matter), you won't find a better spot than Sweet Rice. Of the main dishes we got, my favorite was the garlic chicken. A very simple dish consisting of chicken breast pieces smothered in slightly sweet garlic over rice, topped with an over easy fried egg. Break up that fried egg and let the yolk run over everything...perfection. The desserts are everything you could ask for to finish out the meal. The coconut ice cream is topped with corn, peanuts, palm seeds, condensed milk, and jackfruit. The nam khang sai (Thai shaved ice) is topped with condensed milk, jackfruit, red beans, jelly, palm seeds, coconut, and syrup. If any of those ingredients don't sound appealing to you, be adventurous and try either - or both - of these desserts! You won't be disappointed! read more
