Saw the lights on so I popped in for a bite to eat. Unfortunately they were only serving beer and coffee. Food stops at 4pm or at least I think that's what I read on the wall menu. A good place to socialize with friends. || I came here after lunch one day to relax and do a little bit of studying. The espresso based drink that I tried was good, not noticeably astringent, and the chocolate chip oatmeal cookie that I tried was delicious. It was a firmer cookie and crumbly but also it had a slight chew that you look for with oatmeal based cookies. I'd like to come back again to try some of their other pastries. This isn't the cafe for you if you expect to do a lot of work on your laptop, though. There are no outlets for charging, which seems to be intentional since the tables on the wall also have signs on them requesting to remain electronic free. There were many people, mostly students, socializing in the main area, which gave a lively atmosphere. When I come again I'll bring a friend or a book. read more

Monday they are open! My failed attempt to get to Fruition led me here. Free parking in back was plentiful (see their website). Quinoa bowl was delish though I would have appreciated more kale. Tamper is a new cafe and "espresso bar" located just off the Tufts Campus. The atmosphere is communal , open and stark yet practical for it's purpose. I ordered a late which was made With Barrington Coffee which is high quality and the latte was that high quality and well made. The prices are not cheap but their ingredients are fresh and well-sourced. A great new addition to the area. read more

I've been here before and had ok experiences. The lattes are decent but they always have coffee grounds at the bottom. I got a breakfast sandwich that's advertised as having arugula but my breakfast sandwich had a soggy piece of romaine lettuce. Not really what you want to eat with a fried egg. This is dishonest and not a way to serve customers. I will not be returning. read more

Really loved eating here. First time in Boston, wanted to try some brunch near the place we were staying in Medford. This was a really excellent choice. Got there 30 mins to close on Saturday but got excellent service and excellent food. From scratch, homemade and just outright good quality food. I got the pancakes which are little silver dollar sized, with the perfect texture. Eggy and custard-y and very flavorful. Delicious slice of well cooked bacon on the side. Tamper may not be perfect, but it comes darn close. The staff are always friendly (albeit sometimes harried, as the place can get super crowded at times). Their coffee beverages are all tasty, in a "hipster but not 100% polished" way, but the food is delicious and unusual. I'm absolutely addicted to their avocado toast; it's my favorite bribe for getting out of the house in the morning. Creamy, crunchy, salty perfection, especially when I ask for extra pumpkin seeds. For a more substantial dish, their quinoa bowl (with optional fried egg on top, of course) is wonderful, a savory and filling meal for any time of day. I also love that they have hardboiled eggs that you can grab for a dollar, in case you feel the need for some extra protein. The space is really beautiful, in a bare industrial way, but short on seating that's actually comfortable for long periods (say, chairs with backs). I suspect this may be a deliberate tactic to weigh against the fact that they have free wi-fi; it's a great place to study on my laptop, but I can only sit there for so long before my back hurts. The prices aren't downtown-Boston exorbitant, but they feel a bit high compared to the rest of Medford; on the other hand, the parking is free. Regardless, as a place to meet friends for a weekday breakfast, study for a few hours, or just grab a slice of avocado cost and a glass of on-tap cold brew coffee, Tamper has my loyalty. While most cafes in Cambridge/Somerville seem stuck in the 90s Tamper is a welcome outpost of fresh design and creativity. The barristas really know what they are doing, the menu is veg-friendly, and the ambience/music/lighting is perfect. Since it's near Tufts University you'll see a lot of students working on their laptops, not necessarily a bad thing. read more

I really enjoyed tamper! Came here before a tufts tour, and it was a perfect quick bite! Perfect for breakfast or lunch in a cafe style eatery. Menu was basic but had some great meals to chose from. Okay, so I've only been here once. In fact, I walked in the door about 10 minutes ago, and am one bite into my ricotta and jam on toast and approximately 3 sips into my dirty chai latte made with housemade almond milk. This place is a hipster heaven. But ignoring the hipster-ness, the food is fantastic, the espresso is well-pulled (I previously worked at a cafe that has a serious problem with over and under extraction), and the staff are really nice. It's not ridiculously expensive, as cafes go. My almond milk dirty chai and toast with ricotta and a mountain of jam came out to about $9. For my currently budget, anything over $5 is a serious purchase, and I try not to buy prepared food more than once a week, so it's unlikely that I'll be here all the time... Why does it lose a star? Gendered single stall bathrooms. Really? Given that Tufts is right here, I'm a little surprised? Maybe it's a zoning thing in Medford? In any case, I'd just like to be able to use a bathroom without being forced to pick a gender. But yeah, if this changes, they'll get a full 5 stars from me. read more

I never write review but I don't want anyone going here to waste there money on their food. I had high hopes to come and grab a cheap breakfast of pancakes, but unfortunately the nearly $8 pancakes came out uncooked... I never knew it was possible to mess up pancakes, that were more crepe like, making the fact that they were raw in the middle very upsetting. I took them back, which I hate to do, and had to ask if I could get something since the young man didn't ask how he could fix this when he grabbed my plate and turned around with it.... I order the salami and eggs, and when I saw them come over I wished I had just asked for my $8 dollars back! Sooooo greasy with more cheese then eggs and the salami was cubed????? I felt so gross after a few bites. My bf had the breakfast sandwich and felt ill afterwards, so I wouldn't order that either. We left highly disappointed, and I was still hungry! Then we looked down the street and found the Danish pastry house, saving my morning! So I highly recommend you don't visit here for food, unless you want a stomach ache. read more

Visited this place last week with my friend and loved it. I'm giving 4 stars only because I've just been once, and definitely want to go back and try more things. I had a latte and egg sandwich, and honestly they were both amazing. I've eaten many egg sandwiches in my time, and this was fantastic. The latte was perfect (foam art much-appreciated!) and the service was great. The staff seem super friendly and have the customer service thing down. I'm excited to see what this place grows into! Cute restaurant with modern seating and lots of it. The atmosphere is great and the students who run the place are friendly. My bus drives by this place every day and I was eager to try it out. It seems like a cool new place for the area and is usually busy when I pass by. I went in with my husband and we ordered breakfast. I found it odd that nearly everything we ordered was a separate price. The good was decent, small portions though. Also, we both ordered a side of bacon which was an extra $2 each, and when it arrived it was round sliced and incredibly flavorful. What sucked was that my husband got 2 slices and I only got 1 slice. $2 for a slice of bacon? I don't care how unique and hip you guys are with your round bacon, it was not worth $2!! The guy who took our order seemed very friendly and welcoming. There was a girl also behind the counter with "bitch face" on who I noticed staring at me quite a few times while we were there. For the price it was not worth it. I would have rather paid $35 at a restaurant that would seat, serve and clean up after a nice meal. There are definitely much better places to eat in the area. Definitely a college coffee place. Which works for them since they are so close to Tufts. The seating is not for the anti-social. If you go on a weekend be prepared to be on top of students studying or chatting away. The coffee is Barrington so its strong and at times bitter. I like the iced better. Stopped here for lunch prior to visiting the Royall House Museum and Slave Quarters. Tufts is out of session but Tamper was still humming. The cold brew iced coffee was just right. We had the veggie quesadilla and the prosciutto and fig sandwich. A specific dietary restriction was handled ably and the order taker who met personally with the chef to ensure compliance. Both meals were enjoyed very much. Inside are long shared tables and a bit noisy. We sat outside and enjoyed the lovely weather. read more

Best coffee shop in the greater Cambridge area (I mean "greater" as it is closer to Medford) as stylish as Dwell Time but waaaayyyy more laid back and kind, people who work there are genuinely nice and interested in their customers. You get a nice visual experience without the sense that barristas hate you. As for the coffee, it is great. My preference goes to very large Americanos with boiling water that keeps them warm for a least an hour, this is not the style of the house, so I ll have to change my preferences a bit. Also delicious is the oatmeal. A little on the pricey side but in the average for that kind of hipster / good coffee vibe. Very happy to now live in Medford! read more

Went to Tamper this morning to meet a friend for coffee. Loved the decor and space but hated the service. Went to the counter to order my coffee--i was the only one there--and was told I had to wait because they were talking. Tone and demeanor were dismissive and arrogant. Really a shame because the coffee, when I finally was allowed to order, was pretty good. Was told by my friend that she's had much better experiences. Will given them another chance to make up for their tacky attitude. read more

Found this place while looking for somewhere for coffee and a breakfast/sandwich that wasn't Dunkin Donuts. Tamper lured us in with its funky sign. The interior has thick wood tables with industrial stools. There's a bar that seats about 4 people, segregated tables and two long common tables. Fun chalkboard walls. Very clean. Food was outstanding and so much more varied than expected. Focaccia and quinoa bowl were great. Lots of gf choices. read more

Good coffee and possibly the best most fresh tasting scone I've had! I like that they have a simple coffee menu and all the meals seem healthy and tasty. My only issue is they don't have croissants. Can't wait to go back. read more
