The atmosphere and decor were both exquisite and lush. Since we didn't have a reservation, we opted to sit at the bar--so I'd definitely recommend making a reservation if you'd prefer a table. Our bartender, who also served us, was fantastic. We tried the strawberry margarita, frozen margarita, and coin margarita--all were absolutely delicious. The frozen margarita in particular had a smooth, velvety texture that made it not only refreshing but incredibly easy to drink. The skirt steak was truly next level--packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. The mushroom enchiladas, smothered in mole, were also rich and satisfying. The pescado tacos were a solid portion, with each one offering about three good bites. The fish was well-seasoned and juicy. This is my first time visiting this restaurant. I went with friends, and we had a great time. Carlos was our waiter and provided excellent service; however, it would be nice if he had a smile so clients would feel a bit welcome. The food was good. I had La Tampiqueña (the meat was delicious and flavorful), and the tortilla soup was okay, but one of my friends ordered butternut Squash soup; this soup was unbelievably tasty. Tamayo has a great vibe--stylish décor, warm lighting, and a really welcoming atmosphere. It's definitely the kind of place that feels good to walk into, whether you're out for dinner or just grabbing a drink and a bite. The service was also a highlight--the staff was attentive and friendly from start to finish. I ordered the tacos de pescado along with some chips and salsa. The chips were solid--thin, crunchy, and fresh. I could've kept snacking on them all night. The fish tacos, though, could use a little work. They came out a bit cold, which was disappointing, and the fish itself seemed overcooked--slightly tough and dry. The slaw had potential but tasted off, like the lime in it wasn't very fresh, kind of like that rancid flavor you get from a lime past its prime, which threw the flavor balance a bit. All in all, it was still a pleasant dining experience and I appreciate the great service and ambiance. With a little more attention to the food execution, especially with the fish tacos, this could easily be a five-star spot for me. read more

We stopped in while in the area for a conference and were really impressed by the beautiful décor and welcoming vibe. The guacamole was amazing, the queso fundido was delicious, and the overall atmosphere made it a great spot to relax. I did order the camarones a la diabla, which unfortunately would not recommend. They didn't have much of any flavor, more like lightly seasoned fried shrimp over rice, without any salsa or kick to it that you would be expecting traditionally from that dish. I've been to Tamayo a number of times over the years, and at some point I concluded it was an okay experience, but nothing overly impressive. That said, this past year I revisited the restaurant a few times, and I have to say it certainly worked its way up in my mind. First of all, if you haven't done a bottomless brunch here, I definitely recommend grabbing some friends and going for it. I did it with a large group of friends for Cinco De Mayo (and despite the understandably large crowd), it was an awesome experience. Our server was on point, and essentially just handled all of the food. We got to try pretty much everything on the food menu, in portion sizes that made sense for our table size, and we were able to order some of our favorites again. We were stuffed by the time dessert arrived, but managed to enjoy it nevertheless. It was a great experience for the price, and would probably be even better on a normal weekend. (The bottomless drinks that day were a little less ideal, but given some context from our server that undoubtedly had to do with how slammed the restaurant was.) Not long thereafter I went back with a friend for dinner before a show and we got a couple of entrees to share. We enjoyed the skirt steak combination plate (La Tamipquena) as well as the salmon dish. Both were well prepared and flavorful. I have also had the seafood enchiladas before and really enjoyed those. The chips and guac are addictive as well. I will say on a weekend with the high-ceiling acoustics it can get very loud in the space, but it's an enjoyable time. They also have valet parking (for $10 I believe), which given the surrounding area certainly makes things easier. read more

My kiddo and I had a few hours to spare before heading back to the airport. We decided to stop and visit larimer square and we found Tamayo. We sat outside and we enjoyed a delicious filling lunch. It was during the bottomless brunch hours, but we were able to order a la carte. The pozole was very good. I'm typically a red pozole person but this green was delicious. Very cool atmosphere in a great location. Caught the end of Happy Hour before attending a show at Comedy Works. The food was incredible, both in flavor, and presentation. The drinks were generously poured and the service was excellent. Manny had impeccable timing, allowing us to enjoy the company, but never left us lacking. Highly recommend. Happy hour is stellar! Absolutely loved the fresh fruit margaritas- especially the mango. The strawberry was good too, but the mango was more interesting. Loved the pineapple sage infused margarita as well, but the flavor was a little more subdued than the fresh fruit. We tried the carne asada and the pork carnitas tacos, and while they were good, probably not something we would come back for. The carnita was better than the carne asada. The only thing we really didn't care for was the sangria, they were a little watered down tasting for our preference. Service was excellent and I loved the mix of traditional Spanish hand carved wood and leather with more modern elements. We would absolutely come back for the margaritas again, and to try more of their menu. read more

This place has been on my list for awhile and glad to have finally made it. The staff was very friendly and this spot has a cool atmosphere. There was plenty of places to park. We came on a Monday, had a reservation, but didn't need it. The hostesses greeted me immediately and showed me to a table. We started with the Lomo empanadas, pretty good 6.9/10, the chimichurri was a bit of a let down - more oil and very few herbs. The tortilla soup was also alright, not a lot of chicken and had a strong flavor of tomatoes 7.1/10. For entrees I had the chile relleno which was very good, but a little on the small side. The sauce that was under it was the best part 8/10. My friend had the tacos which he liked a lot, he said they were a 9/10. The sides were good, Mexican corn 8.5/10, mushrooms 8.5/10 and the brussel sprouts with homeade mole were fine 8/10. For dessert we each had the churros, which tasted a little like the oil they were fried in, but paired well with the sauces 7/10. I look forward to coming back, a good place for upscale Mexican food in Denver. read more

I've had heard great things about this restaurant, and now that it was fully renovated and reopened at the beginning of March my friend and I decided to check it out. I made a reservation for 5 pm and got there a bit earlier and they were able to accommodate us. The manager was super welcoming and nice. He offered us to sit either in the main floor or at the terrace. We went for the terrace and it was gorgeous. We then go to greeted by our server Mason (he did so amazing) and explained some thing from the menu (since it was our first time there) and gave us a lot of great recommendations. Being that my friend and I are Mexican, we were a little apprehensive about how the food would taste (cause contrary to popular opinion, Mexican food here in Colorado is not that great). To our surprise, we enjoyed the food, the drinks, and the desserts to the max. We had so much fun eating and drinking, and of course our server Mason did amazing which enhanced the experience, more so cause he was kind enough to celebrate my birthday a bit earlier. I 100% recommend this place and I will visit again when I drive up. read more

Came here for a social event for a conference I attended at the convention center. The roof area is so cute. You get fresh air and a breeze all under nice ambiance. Bottomless brunch- don't mind if I do. Haven't been to Tamayo's brunch in a couple of years. The return was epic! For $50 you get all you can eat and drink from a preselected menu. The flautas were delicious. One order comes with 2 full flautas. The chilaquiles were divine- prepared exactly as chilaquiles should be. The crispy bacon was cooked and seasoned to perfection, the breakfast potatoes- omg so good! Finished off the meal with the bread pudding-delicious! I also imbibed in a Bloody Maria to drink and then switched to a margarita to ensure all my tastebuds were satisfied. Will definitely go back and will keep Tamayo on my top list for brunch in Denver! Heads up- if one person does bottomless brunch, everyone in your party at your table must as well. Also, you can do bottomless brunch minus the alcohol for $37. read more

Tamayo was recommended by our hotel. It was easy to get a reservation for our large group. Standouts were spicy mango margs and queso. The guacamole seemed processed with chopped veggies added. I had the mushroom tacos which were just ok IMO. Having walked by this restaurant several times, and seeing its look, ambience and menu decided to give them a try. I should note that Mexican style cuisine isn't among my top choices. Because of the conference I was attending, I arrived around 330pm ish and was told that I wouldn't have access to the dinner menu (because it wasn't dinner time) but I could have something from their "happy hour" menu. I must admit, I came very close to leaving but having seen their unique dessert offerings (during my research of the restaurant) and learning that I could order my dessert of choice, I thought "why not just get dessert". Along the way, I found a couple of items on the "happy hour" menu that sounded worth ordering. So while I was disappointed that I wouldn't get order what I had come there to try their happy hour menus isn't just beer and chips ! I ordered: Bacon Guacamole Ceviche 3 tacos: steak, carnitas and chicken A "sopes"-which I've never heard of let alone tried previously. And finally Tres leches for dessert. I'm super glad I stayed! I say the food here is a blend of modern, and traditional Mexican cuisine and more importantly super delicious! The bacon guacamole...I could eat that all day long without the chips. Lots of flavor and seemingly made from fresh avocados. The ceviche had amazing balance and not too acidic which is what I expect. The tacos nothing to complain about because they were so good...the "sopes" I'd describe as having a more bread like texture versus tortillas but filled with the same flavors as the steak taco. The Tres leches was a wonderful spongy cake with a kind of berry sauce...just the right sweetness and richness! Exactly what I wanted. To recap I don't know why I couldn't order from their dinner menu, a disappointment for sure... that said, strictly speaking it wasn't truly dinner time (5pm); first time that's ever happened to me...still the food, on their happy hour menu is varied and genuinely delicious...it filled me up and I walked away very satisfied. Service was good, my server had to cover a lot of ground because it was sparsely occupied at the time of my visit but got the job done. I'd recommend the happy hour menu for sure but I do wish I would have had the opportunity to try their full menu. read more

I must say, I was growing disappointed in the Denver food scene, but then I stumbled upon Tamayo in the Cooke historic Larimer District. This place exceeded all of my expectations! The original margarita? Delicious! The guacamole and house made chips? Devine! Perhaps the best guac I've ever had. The Mexican chopped salad? A tangy delight that was mucho delicioso! The Mahi tacos and side of plantains? Outstanding! It was so good I almost slapped myself. And the waitress was so pleasant and friendly that it just accentuated an awesome experience. Attempted to go here for my girlfriend's birthday brunch... All of the week prior to going we kept checking online for reservations and saw that none were available. I then called a couple of times asking for a reservation for Sunday brunch. They said they were fully booked which I understood considering it was a Sunday morning. I tried again and luckily got a reservation!!!! We walk in excited to do the bottomless brunch. I am first amazed that the restaurant is maybe only half full considering all reservations were taken for two people We sit down and immediately a man gives us water. A nice man who's friendly. We then sit and see all the food coming out! I'm curious at what each dish may be and I'm excited to order. We find a drink menu and I plan to order a blood orange margarita. Then two tables behind us have people come in and they immediately receive menus and order drinks. We see many tables getting food and waiters and waitresses are being attentive helping it seems. After 20 MINUTES!!!!!!!!!!! I finally have to wave down a waitress and ask if we can order a drink and get a menu. She hesitates and says "I will have to figure out who your waitress is" another 3-5 minutes go by before we see a waitress and she apologizes for the wait. Usually we are understanding and willing to wait. But it is very frustrating when we wait 25 minutes to even get a menu or a drink. We then ended up deciding to walk out because of the service. I'm not sure why no one decided to wait on us. But service that slow is unacceptable and we do not plan to go back. The idea of the bottomless brunch is very intriguing but we are very disappointed at the service and way we were treated. There are many other places in the Denver area with better service that we will be going to next time. read more
