Stopped here for my first dinner on a Sunday night, and I liked everything we ordered! We all did the ramune cocktail which was nice but nothing special. The standouts were definitely the chicken katsu curry + chicken karaage. I personally loved the Tamaribar sushi roll, but some found it painfully spicy. I ordered the Dan Dan ramen, which comes with chicken here (perfectly cooked!) and while I liked the broth, I missed the depth and savory taste of a traditional Tantanmen ramen. The Maze-men udon noodles were cooked really well but I didn't love the sauce as it was pretty bland. I will definitely return to get the karaage and katsu curry, and to try their matcha crème brûlée (sold out this time). Very happy with our experience here!
great casual spot for HH or quick dinner with friends. Not a huge space but great vibes with the windows open in the summer. We ordered the soft shell crab bao bun, the chef's platter (two items had pork btw!), and spicy salmon roll. Overall had a very filling, yummy dinner and great catchup with a friend. This is really solidifying the fact that i only go out to cafes and sushi spots in seattle. oh well. Definitely don't forget to check out Baiten next door if you have room for dessert! Parking: street parking, but it's cap hill so I recommend taking public transport and walking. It's pretty central to other spots in cap hill.
Have been to tamari bar before but didn't have much of an impression from past visits. This time was kinda the same. My friend and I came in on a weekday for dinner and there were a few spots open. Service overall was prompt and friendly. Ambience inside is darker, a retro urban Japanese vibe. We ordered the ocean salad, chicken katsu, and the salmon bibimbap to share which was plenty for us. Ocean salad was not bad. Sashimi there was pretty fresh. It was similar to.. an okay poke bowl w salad greens haha. The salmon bibimbap was okay as well. The bowl wasn't super hot so the rice didn't crisp up as much as we would've liked. Salmon was fine, just nothing special. Chicken katsu was probably the best thing. Crispy outside, super juicy and tender meat. I did notice that the bottom started getting soggy from all the oil. Overall, not bad. I like the variety, but nothing really stands out for me
Tamari Bar was amazing! If you're able to make it during happy hour, it's absolutely worth it since many of the dishes are discounted. We visited on a Thursday evening and were seated right away, though I've heard weekends can get pretty busy. I don't usually eat large amounts of sashimi, so the Tora Gozen was the perfect choice. It gave me a little bit of everything, and the sashimi tasted incredibly fresh. We also ordered the Mazemen, which was packed with flavor, and the karaage, which was juicy on the inside with a perfectly crispy exterior. Everything we ordered was well executed, the service was friendly, and the quality easily matched the price. This is definitely a place I'd recommend to friends visiting Seattle, and I'll absolutely be back to explore more of the menu.
Food - I had just 1 soft shell crab bao because i was so full from before. the softshell crab was good but i basically ate all of the meat in the first bite because it was hard to bite off a piece. also tons of sauce so it was a little on the messy side. they had a ton of other dishes i would have tried so maybe we'll come back. Service - food came out fast but all at different times. they had us sit outside since we didn't have a res on mothers day - so maybe also part of the food being a little scattered. but overall friendly and didn't take too long. Ambiance - tons of seating. inside, outside, upstairs. very chill area. and can order desserts from baiten next door.
TLDR: Really enjoyed the restaurant week bento as it came with great flavor and variety. The space isn't huge but there is a variety of bar or indoor/outdoor seating options. Would recommend making a reservation! Food: We had the restaurant week benton which came with a variety of sashimi and small bites. Everything was fresh included a good amount of different flavors and textures. We also had the tamari bar roll which was solid but not something I'd come specifically for Price: The restaurant week bento was $35 dollars and I thought it was a great deal considering the food and location. Service/Ambiance: Service was solid and the staff was friendly. They have an outdoor patio that includes tables and counter seating. For a weekday evening we waited about ~40 mins since we wanted a table. I would definitely recommend making a reservation
Solid spot to grab dinner! Recommended to make reservations as they were pretty packed so we had to sit outside (covered and heated patio). Service was pretty good. They were friendly and checked on us frequently. Food came out at decent paces. Both of the Korean fried chickens were good. Fries were great too. I ordered the hamburger bento and it wasn't that good, though. The burger meat was dry. I'd come here again.
Food was amazing! Their nigiris are some of the best! Bibimbap was good but the cheese made it heavy Skip the yuzu ice cream cover in chocolate, nothing like ice cream. Drinks were good too! On the whole a very good izakaya Service was quick all the staff were friendly and quick. Clean bathrooms. L shaped seating area, great for small groups but had a couple large group tables too.
One of my favorite spots! Tamari Bar is a great place for almost all occasions! I have made a stop here for a casual night out, for a quick lunch, for special occasions like birthdays and Valentines, it has a great vibe for almost anything! It can get quite busy during dinner rush so a reservation is recommended, however there is a $25 deposit that is required but it does go towards your check. I have gotten daily specials here and restaurant staples as well. My absolute favorite thing to get here is the tamari roll which is dressed so perfectly! Their happy hour is also great and their pork bao buns are also AMAZING! Their bento sets are also a great choice and are huge. The price point is on the higher end but for the amount of food and variety, I would say it is quite reasonable, especially during happy hour. The service is always very nice and friendly and the chefs are super speedy. I have never experienced waiting a long time for food after ordering. I will be back when I am in the area!
Tamari bar is such a cute spot to eat at on a night out. I personally like the vibe and decorations here more than its sister restaurant, Rondo. I happened to come on the last day of restaurant week, so I tried their special dinner box which looked pretty, but the taste failed in comparison. At both restaurants, I have not been impressed with their sashimi. It tastes a little fishy and honestly the rest of the box wasn't outstanding either. I did also get to try their hot stone wagyu which was good and a fair price. The service was attentive and the food came out relatively quickly. I think if I ever come again, I'll just stick to ordering the katsu curry.
=== Overall === Very cool place, good vibes to hang with friends and hit or miss food and drinks. === Food === I came for Seattle restaurant week and my friend and I both got their box. Half of the items in the box were very flavorful- I'm looking at the sashimi, macaroni salad, and chicken. The others were unmemorable except for the deep fried crab, which my friend and I couldn't even get past our first bites. That unfortunately took this place down a lot food wise in my opinion. I would get their sashimi, and their drinks looked good! Side note: I've tried baiten (their connected dessert place and was not impressed. Would skip). === Service === Friendly and fast service. No problems here. They ask everyone if they have a reservation so would be good if you had one. === Ambiance === Absolutely love the 80s Japanese decor with ultraman & ghibli. Cool ambiance and they keep it clean.
I've been to this place twice in the last week and a half. So good, everything is so fresh as well. The happy hour is a couple dollars off their normal menu. I really enjoyed the chiraishi bowl and tako wasabi with such fresh seafood. The curry was a little salty, but it was ok when paired with the rice. I also really enjoyed the BB sukiyaki which had nice flavor with a little mala. Service was good as well
Great service, great happy hour, and great vibes in Cap Hill. Came here with coworkers and we were here with hours! Love the ambiance and decor. It felt like it'd be a great place for girls' night and date night alike. Drinks were flowing and strong. Happy hour deals were aplenty. We enjoyed rolls, sashimi, bao, cabbage salad, chicken skin, and more. Everything was good.
I walked two miles and waited an hour for there 5:00 PM opening to dine here... and it was worth every minute! I figured this place would be a hit because they require a deposit in order to make a reservation. Understandable, because seating is limited and can get extremely full within the first hour of service. When we arrived our hostess was welcoming and friendly and our server had the patience explaining the menu to us as it was our first visit. We started off with the Rockin' Wagyu, it was a fun presentation as you are able to cook your beef however you desire on a heated charcoal stone. The meat was juicy, tender and flavorful. Our next course was the Unagi Bowl, grilled eel over furikake/egg rice with teriyaki sauce. Unagi is one of my favorite Japanese food of all time! Lastly, from the happy hour menu was the Tora Gozen Set, chef's choice of seven different items and it also included a bowl of rice and soup. This particular staircase featured six slices of sashimi, ikura, and fried chicken/shrimp. It was a good variation of appetizers to sample without ordering a full size portion. I wish I had more stomach space because there were so much more on the food/beverage menu I wanted to try. I still salivate while writing this review, it's that good! read more
I've been here for dinner and happy hour, and both experiences were pleasant. The restaurant is dark and busy. Try getting a reservation if you have a larger party on Fridays or weekends. Yuzu slush: icy, not too sweet, and $4 during happy hour. It doesn't melt fast and I would definitely get it again. Soft serve flight: not too sweet. The matcha flavor was my favorite by far. I would order this flavor alone next time. Yuzu and mixed berry were complete misses. Hayashi rice: cheesier than I expected and it was worth trying once. Assorted spiral staircase: so fun and pretty to try. I enjoyed the tuna the best. Tori Kara-age: very average. Nothing special about the chicken. I'll pass on this next time. Tamaribar roll: I enjoyed the fish on top and it's filled with veggies inside. read more

My sister and her fiancé had their first date at Tamari Bar during happy hour and have raved about it ever since--and for good reason! This place deserves a solid 6/5 for its friendly service, chill vibes, and incredible food. We got seated at 5:59 PM, and our server was awesome enough to let us sneak in a happy hour order (much appreciated!). Coming straight from Barry's Bootcamp, we were starving, and Tamari Bar did not disappoint. Here's what we ordered: sushi roll, salmon roll, karaage, cilantro udon, Brussels sprouts, bibimbap, Dan Dan ramen, a yuzu highball, spicy ginger mule, and ginger highball. Some items were on happy hour, some weren't, but every single thing was amazing. We didn't just eat--we devoured it all. If you're looking for great food, good vibes, and service that goes the extra mile, Tamari Bar is the spot. Highly recommend! read more
Don't sleep on Tamari Bar, it's my favorite place to go for a fun, unique and flavorful approach to sushi and other Japanese bites. Service is so-so, but the boa is worth it on every level. The fish is fresh, and the specials really prioritize what's seasonal which makes each experience different and exploratory. It's a great space, and usually a killer playlist is on in the background. Nervous? Try a little bit over everything by catching their happy hour from 5-6pm. Get the seafood tower! And any, if not all the boas. read more
Love tamari bar for their happy hour! Yuzu high ball is so refreshing and delicious. Would come here for their drinks alone. Food was good too! My favorite item is still the tamari bar poutine. Id say given the happy hour prices, you really can't go wrong coming here. read more
Tamari Bar for the win!!! I'm a big fan of their Curry Pork Katsu Bowls with added donuts as my top choice to get when I see a Mariners game at T-Mobile Park. I'm glad it tastes similar at their brick & mortar restaurant. It is just as warm, comforting, and filling. IMO the Dan Dan Noodles tastes equally as flavorful and delicious. I know there are so many more dishes I should try the next time I eat here, but it's difficult to veer from my favorite go-tos. I also love their baos, karaage chicken, and fun n' creative drinks and desserts. read more
Nice happy hour spot in Broadway/First Hill area! HH is 4:30-6 and the classic go to is the Tora Gozen, tower of small bites. Food was fresh, service was good, and the drink was tasty, would recommend to someone looking for a nice Japanese spot after work. read more

Stumbled upon this restaurant after spending the day in Capitol HIll and was not disappointed. We went on a Saturday at around 8 and were seated in ~20 minutes Tamari Bar is a good restaurant to eat Japanese food. I really enjoyed the fries - especially the garlicky chili crisp and meat that was put on top of it. The bao was flavorful as well. The Wagyu Beef Hayashi Rice was what caught my eye when looking at the menu because I had never seen anything like that. It was definitely very unique and very rich. I wish there was something in the dish that cut through all the richness. Overall, I don't think you can go wrong with the food here. The ambiance is very chill - very good for a casual date night! They are Rondo's sister restaurant and I might come back to try their sushi. read more

Great service, great ambiance, tiny restaurant. If you're going to order a lot of food, definitely recommend being seated at a dining table. Ordered the seared salmon roll from the HH menu, the appetizer sampler which was not my favorite (would not order again), 5 piece sashimi was great, best bite, Brussel sprouts - too salty and the buns were so good!!! read more

I have heard lots of good things about Tamari Bar but didn't find the time to come visit until a friend of mine that lived in Cap. Hill suggested we grab dinner here. We luckily made it in time for Happy Hour (barely)! Our server was kind enough to give us some time to look over the menu to see if we wanted anything ordered before Happy Hour ended. We both ordered a drink. I got the Yuzu Margarita (forgot what my friend ordered). Then, we shared two entrees: Hayashi Rice and the Tamaribar Sushi Roll. Everything was delicious and I hoping to come back again to try their other menu items! read more

The happy hour here used to be my favorite, but now they've taken away some of the sashimi options. The value isn't as great anymore. Used to love the sashimi boxes they offered. The creamy cilantro is super flavorful and light. The tora gozen staircase wasn't as worth as I thought it'd be. Each of the apps had two pieces, but the best was the sashimi. Wish I paid for the chirachi bowl instead for a little more. Tamari bar has really thick cut of sashimi for pretty quality fish for what you're paying for. I like that they have a great ambiance indoors and outdoors. A great place to meet friends and catch up for a casual bite read more
We came here to meet with friends for dinner. I got The Ocean Salad and The Rockin Wagyu Beef. The Ocean Salad came with a sashimi, a shrimp, and some masago/roe. It was very fresh-tasting. The Rockin Waygu Beef was slices of wagyu that you cook yourself on a hot rock. That was different, never did that before. And it was quick and easy, since I like it rare and didn't need to leave on the rock too long. read more

Always love coming here, although I never got my funds released from the reservation cost, it was all so worth the money. My mom loves sushi and is very picky but she raved the entire time about how much the tuna just melt in her mouth. She was very happy about the fact that we were able to join Tamari bar on a day that they are usually closed and it was so great! The food and the staff were so busy and yet they made time for every moment of ordering food, conversing and making sure we got everything we needed. The wonderful time we had here was to be looked at again. We cannot wait to go again (we are coming back in a month with MORE PEOPLE) read more
I love this place. Pass by it all the time and finally tried it out. The happy hour menu is so good and the sushi was amazing. It gets really busy here so expect a wait. The service is good and food comes out fast. Great late night vibe if you want drinks and food. read more

What a blast to walk into this experience of a restaurant. Even as an izakaya, it has more than just small plates. The 5 of us shared tons of sashimi, sushi roll, wagyu ramen, and more. It all tasted delicious and no complaints on the variety of alcoholic drinks either. Our waiter was super attentive the whole time (so was the other staff) and he participated in authentic Japanese announcements to the kitchen when we ordered and thank you's as we left. The overall decor of cultural items and Ponyo playing on the TV were entertaining touches as well. As a visitor of the area, we dined out a lot over the past week and this place definitely shines! read more
Definitely get a reservation for this place especially if you are planning on dining during potentially busy hours! There also is only parallel street parking. My friend and I met up here for dinner and we where able to get bar seating without a reservation during prime dinner time. They have hooks around the area to hang your things, very nice touch! The restaurant is half indoor half outdoor, has a nice Seattle PNW touch to it! We went around the holidays so there where Christmas lights hung around as well. We got seated pretty fast, the waiter took our drink order. I got the Toki classic highball and it was absolutely delicious. A refreshing drink for sure! We ordered the curry doughnut dip and let me tell you that stuff is amazing! The curry has a spice level of 2/5, not going to make you sweat but the taste is there :). The doughnut is absolutely soft and warm as in you know they took it right out of the oven. My friend got the Area 206 curry which she very much enjoyed and I got the OSAKA CHEESE "CHICKEN-KATSU" CURRY. Twas very delicious and they do not skimp on the meat. The chicken is crunchy and juicy inside and pairs very well with the curry and rice. I recommend getting this is you are interested in the curry and want a little bit more! Overall fantastic place to eat if you're in the area, food is delicious and the staff was very nice and accommodating! Will be back in the future read more
It was meh for a Japanese restaurant. If I paid $70 for food, I would've expect it to better. The lamb was a bit overcooked and not really flavorful. My favorite dish was the Nori French Fritz. That I will order again. The sashimi tuna was a bit fishy so I was weary. Usually when it is somewhat fishy, it means the fish is going bad. I only came here because a friend insisted we dine there. I also had the bubbly lemonade too. Friend loved it his food and his sake but he didn't finish his food. I finished mine except for the raw quail egg which I let him have. Service was ok. It was really weird because we got a totally different server for when we ordered dessert. Our initial server was still there and wasn't busy. Literally looked like they grabbed the dishwasher teen to serve us dessert. I did wish the water was refilled because the cup was empty the whole night after we drank it once. The chefs said Arigato very casually when we left. I would've expected the restaurant of that caliber to say Arigato Gozaimasu. read more
I discovered this place at a friend's recommendation to meet up and get dinner here, and I was very pleasantly surprised. I arrived here around prime dinnertime, but I was quite pleasantly surprised that I was able to find parking just a block away. Walking into the bar, the first thing I noticed was the decor. The bar was decorated nicely, nothing too obnoxious, but it had a subtle nicely to it. They were playing a studio ghibli film on a big projector, which I thought was super cool and quirky. We ordered the poutine, a sashimi platter, the karaage, and a spider bao. The plating of everything was absolutely gorgeous, and the taste of the food was pretty solid too. Overall, I quite enjoyed Tamari Bar and would probably come back again! read more

I came here for happy hour on a Friday with a reservation, and it was a great experience. The server was attentive, the food was delicious, and it wasn't too loud or crowded for conversation. My favorites were the karaage because it was amazingly tender and flavorful and the bao because of all the elements and flavor. I would definitely recommend this place for a casual and yummy dining experience. read more

A fun spot for Japanese eats tucked into the heart of Cap Hill -- it was a fun spot that's next to a ton of other popular bars and restaurants. I recently found out that they're the sister restaurant of Rondo, which is also super popular. We walked in and were able to immediately get seated for two, and the servers were so sweet and helpful. The ambiance is nice and they have an indoor-outdoor covered patio. The food here was yummy: Spider Bao -- a softshell crab bao which is by far my FAVORITE thing that I had, the filling was so flavorful and the bun was so fluffy. Sashimi -- this was super fresh and the fish was so fatty and melted in your mouth, really loved it. Tamari Bar Sushi Roll -- IMHO, I've had better rolls and felt like like the vegetables clashed a bit with the fish. Brussel Sprouts -- loved the flavor but really wish they were cut into smaller pieces, since they were a bit hard to chew. Overall a fun spot and I would come back for a casual dinner! read more
Came here for their happy hour on a saturday and there was no wait. There's plenty of tables inside and the decorations are really cute and on theme. I only had their poutine ($10) and Toki Highball / chicken karaage combo ($13). I thought the drink was good and the poutine came with a good amount of meat. Definitely not a poutine with gravy but more like chinese dan-dan noodles with fries instead of noodles. The chicken pieces were kind of small but very tender and juicy. Great place to come with friends for happy hour read more

Bustling little spot serving some decent izakaya food. I came here around 6:30 on a Saturday with a party of 2, and we were told that it would take around 45 minutes to get seated. They have you leave your name and phone number and they text you when your table is almost ready, so you can go walk around Cap Hill while you wait. I think our table ended up being ready much sooner, in around 20-30 mins. Tried the dan dan ramen as well as the karaage. The karaage was pretty average, was a little dry and not very much flavor. Dan dan ramen was decent, there was a good amount of meat, but a bit too spicy for me (I'm not good at eating spice though). My friend got the hiyashi rice(?) which was pretty good as well. As for drinks, tried the cream soda and that was really good, although I would want to try some different flavors next time like the yuzu soda. Overall the bill came out to around $75, which is okay IMO but maybe a bit on the higher side. All the staff we interacted with was super friendly, and the ambiance of the restaurant was cool. read more
I came here for happy hour with two friends on a Tuesday and got seated right away at 5. Loved the vibes as it was chill, cool, and just comfortable. The servers were all very attentive, patient, and kind! Food wise, we ordered two "tora gozen set" to share amongst the three of us. One of my friends ordered the Bao Down that came with a Sapporo pint and a bao of choice. I had a bite of the Buta Bao and it was very good! Pork was tender, melt in your mouth. The Gozen set came with 6 pieces sashimi and 1-2 pieces of other fried appetizers, soup, and rice. The portions were smaller than I thought, but I expected it because it was a set. I enjoyed the sashimi and the fried shrimp the most out of the set. I'm not sure if I would get the set again, but it was good to sample, especially when it has dishes like the shrimp that is not on the regular happy hr menu. However, if you want things like Karaage, it's best to just order straight from the menu instead of as part of the set. They offered a great selection of drinks for happy hour. I got the Spicy Gin-ger mule (forgot to take pics) and my partner got a NA drink that is frozen (can't find it on the online menu). My mule was strong, but it was very good. Overall, I would recommend this place for when you want to catch up with friends casually as it was chill, comfy, with pretty good food. I definitely want to try other menu items next time as well. read more
Had high expectations after loving Hi Life (sister restaurant) in Bainbridge Island. Unfortunately, the sashimi were nowhere near the quality at Hi Life. We got the 9 piece box, and the fish didn't taste fresh. We got other appetizers like the pork bun and spicy wontons but nothing stood out. The only thing we liked was wagyu that comes with a hot stone to grill yourself - the beef was flavorful and tender, and I liked that we could grill it ourselves in a small scale. The service was fine, and the vibe might've been better but we were seated at the bar where a lot of people were passing by. I think their sister restaurants Hi Life and Rondo are much better. read more
Came in at a good time and was seated pretty fast for a group of 5. We ordered a Hayashi Rice, Bento Box, Jewelry Ju-box, Kara Age for appetizer, and some ice cream for dessert (yuzu flavored and matcha sundae). The food was delicious and I was especially pleased with the freshness and quality of their sashimi. Everything came in a pretty big portion size too; one could easily have gotten full from the sashimi box itself. Service was also wonderful! Our server checked in multiple times with us and always greeted us with a big smile or a light joke here and there. They mixed up one of the dessert orders at the end but delivered a complimentary one for us, which was a nice gesture. This is definitely a go-to place for any type of gathering or even a one-on-one date! read more
A casual Japanese restaurant right up along a busy pedestrian sidewalk -- great people-watching if you're out in the outdoor seating section. The food was fine, but the server was nice. Close to a lot of dessert places if you'd like to take a walk after your meal. read more
We made reservations and were directed to the outdoor seating area briskly. Because we were outside, the ambience wasn't too loud which was definitely my preference. Service was good, but there was a small mishap that resulted in me cleaning some sauce off my shoe. I ordered the Wagyu Bluefin Kiwami Bowl, which was definitely on the pricier side, but luckily I'd say the taste was worth the price - though I definitely couldn't order this on a regular basis! The wagyu was very plentiful, which is very appreciated and the fish fresh, especially the several pieces of uni. The Yuzu margarita slush was also very refreshing, especially after a long, hot day of walking. I would definitely come back to Tamari Bar, although I do think that their sister restaurant Rondo inches it out in quality. read more

We made reservations, and I recommend you do the same. We went during happy hour which is from 5-6 and 9:30 - last call. The staff was very friendly and attentive. I ordered the Tora Gozen set off the happy hour menu which comes with chef's choice of seven appetizers on their signature staircase. I also ordered a toki classic highball. Both items were reasonably priced and presented beautifully. I recommend this place for happy hour! read more

My boyfriend and I have been wanting to check this restaurant out as his brother recommended it, AND it's one of the restaurants that is part of Makotz Co. Gotta hit all of them now that we're on a roll LOL. We decided to on this restaurant with another couple as they also love Japanese foods! It's located next to Baiten (another Makotz Co. shop) and across of Mercado Luna on the corner of E Pine St and Summit Ave in Capitol Hill. Parking is a nightmare. There's only paid street parking and residential parking which is almost impossible to find during dinner rush hours and during the weekends. My group and I ordered a TON of food. We waited 1.5-2 hours for a table (messed up and didn't put in a reservation), so our eyes were ordering LOL. Well, mainly mine. It was also approaching the second happy hour of the day (9:30pm-last call). Teriyaki Renkon: Our server recommended this as an appetizer, and I gotta say, it was good! It was cooked perfectly but the flavor balance was a bit off. All the sauce was on the bottom, allowing the bottom pieces to soak up the delicious sauce while the top ones were kind of bland. But regardless, this was a delicious, refreshing appetizer! Tuna Tatsuta Karaage: A chef's recommendation according to our server. And WOW! For $7, there was a TON of ahi (tuna) kaarage. So much flavor with the marinated ahi, spice mix, and tartar sauce. YUUUM. Highly recommended! It was actually kind of filling even with the four of us sharing, and this was our first dish out LOL. Buta Bao: Fluffy bun with a smallish fatty pork. It wasn't too memorable in my opinion but my boyfriend loved it. Tora Gozen Set: WOW! The presentation was beautiful (peep at pic)! And the food was equally delicious! There was 7 appetizers (2 each): chicken karaage, fried shrimp, deep fried oysters, salmon sashimi, ahi sashimi, scallops, and pickled vegetables. Everything was soooo good. I have absolutely no complains about any of the appetizers! Surprisingly, the ahi sashimi didn't have a weird frozen texture to it that I've had at other places which was nice! The only thing we were all confused about was the miso soup. It wasn't the traditional miso soup that we were all used to. It had like a beef broth flavor? Interesting and not something we would order again. In the future, I'll probably just order the ala carte to exclude the rice and miso soup. Spicy SF Futomaki Roll: Not what we expected based off its name. We were expecting the traditional futomaki roll but nope! It exceeded what we thought! The rolls were HUGE. There were 5 pieces with a tooon of seafood on the roll: seared salmon, ahi, scallops, and topped with ikura. Such great flavor combinations! Definitely something I would love to have again! Hayashi Rice: Similar to the Korean bibimbap, it was in a hot stone bowl with the sizzles. The portion was huge! Lots of things in it with a nice cheese pull. I personally didn't really like it as all the flavors blended in together as if too much was happening. My boyfriend and friends enjoyed it. Cilantro Udon: Beautifully presented! There was an ample amount of kombocha (pumpkin), eggplant, and shishito pepper over the cilantro pesto udon. It was delicious! Super flavorful and more pesto than cilantro flavor (not a big fan of cilantro). LOVED the udon texture too. The only thing I didn't like was the amount of oil there was in the dish. My stomach started to get bloated before all the other foods came out. Ick. Maze-Men: My friends got this, and I got a little bite out of it. This was delicious! Very flavorful profile with the pork, and the udon texture, similar to the cilantro udon, was perfect! Upon exiting the restroom, I noticed Raisu sake bottles. Raisu is another Japanese restaurant located in Vancouver, BC! My boyfriend and I went to that location last November. I guess me and my boyfriend are just unintentionally gravitating to these Japanese restaurants because we knew they'll be good LOL. Definitely a great place to check out especially during happy hour! The prices (both regular and happy hour) were super reasonable with huge portions. Definitely will be back soon but will be avoiding the cilantro udon LOL. read more

I'm torn because the food tasted great but the poutine made me very ill and knocked me out for the weekend. (Sadly I can pinpoint the dish that didn't sit well) My partner couldn't finish the Hellz Bao because even though he loves spicy, this bugger was labeled SPICY and not messing around! Service was great, ambience is lovely and reminds me of Chef Hajime Sato's aesthetic of using retro Japanese komono and photos (seeing Tahara Toshihiko タッチ〜 and The Checkers チェッカーズon the men's bathroom entrance made me giggle and feel old as well) We'll need to visit again, and skip the poutine and Hellz Bao :) read more
