    Crispy shrimp bao
    Bernadette C.

I've been following Take a Bao Eats for awhile, and I saw them pop up on my UberEats app. So I decided to try them out without having to drive to them, which was super convenient. I got the Bao Out deal, which includes your choice of two Baos, choice of crispy dumplings, and choice of mini dessert baos, all for a little less than $26! That's such a good deal! When I got my delivery order, I opened the bag, and at the top was this cute & thoughtful note with a hand drawn rose! That was definitely the sweetest touch, and nice to read after a long day. These baos, are SO GOOD. I got garlic aioli on top for the crispy chicken, that sauce is so flavorful, pairs real well with the chicken. The shrimp was still crispy with and the onion/cabbage slaw, perfect match. The crispy pork dumplings was surprisingly still crispy as well for delivery, and the soy based dipping sauce that comes with it balanced well with the flavors of the dumplings. Last but not least, the S'mores Bao Nut dessert baos, I mean come on, how could you not like deep fried bao buns with chocolate and marshmallow fluff?! I wish there was a tad bit more on the inside by the crease/fold, but it was still all good. Can't wait to try some of their other baos!

I ordered delivery, but I think next time I'll go to the restaurant because something does get lost in transit. The baos were delicious with interesting flavors and yummy sauces. The dumplings were okay and the Nutella baos were okay too. Let's face it, Nutella on anything is delicious. But back to the baos: I got the teriyaki pork belly and crispy spicy shrimp and I highly recommend both. The order came well packed with a cute inspirational note, which was a nice touch.

At the end of a long week, ordering in seemed the best way to go. Oh boy was it ever! Take a Bao Eats popped up in my ordering app and immediately I was curious because who doesn't love Baos? There were a number of options, so a bit undecided I put 2 shrimp, 2 pork, and 2 chicken Baos into my cart and an order of vegetable dumplings. About 30 minutes later, they arrived. On opening the bag, my expectations were far exceeded, there was a personalized handwritten note to express appreciation for the business. That just made me happy knowing they care about customers even on delivery orders. Each Bao was in its own individual packaging and everything was labeled clearly on each container. They even provide extra spicy aioli sauces which really made these delicious. For $7 each I was pleasantly surprised by their size. Actually they were well filled and had refreshing red cabbage slaw to go with it. I was stuffed after eating two, so needless to say I'll be eating these for a few meals. Yay! Despite all the ridiculous fees on the app, I would absolutely 1000% recommend giving Take a Bao your business. I am sold.

EDIT: Decided a few days later to bump it up to 5 stars because the food was good and I got really good response from the restaurant. This is a place worth checking out! This is a ghost kitchen so I wasn't sure what to expect. I know times are tough, but I try to stay away from ghost kitchens. I'm glad I took a chance on this place as the food was actually excellent. They have a special deal which includes dumpling apps, two baos, and dessert baos. While a little on the pricy side, it was better than some sit down restaurants. The dumplings were pretty good and had a nice sauce. My favorite baos were the teriyaki pork belly and spicy shrimp. Both cooked perfectly, especially for a fast food. I also really liked the s'mores dessert baos. What a good way to end the meal. I also got some extra Bao sandwiches and they were excellent. The Korean and Soy Garlic were awesome! My only drawback is that this is just in a pickup ghost kitchen so I really hope they move into a storefront somewhere. It would be perfect in a fancy food court. This food should be successful and I hope it is! I highly recommend and I hope they move somewhere more permanent! Edit to the owner: Thanks for responding. I really liked the food so I will be back. I'd love a more "brick and motor" type experience so I'll keep my fingers crossed. If you're able to make the food in a carry out situation that good, I can only imagine it totally hot and fresh. I didn't include this on my review; but it got a nice little message with my meal. That was a great touch

Since I was in Avondale, I wanted to check out a new place for lunch and stumbled upon reviews on Take a Bao - thanks Yelpers! I don't like the Toast Tab app and just called to place my order. Probably better anyway since they won't have to pay Toast a fee. The person who took my order was so nice. I ordered a Crispy Spicy Aioli Chicken Bao and Teriyaki Pork Belly Bao and Crispy Vegetable Dumplings. I knew it would be too much food, but whatever was leftover would be dinner. Take a Bao was only 5 minutes from You're a Cookie, check out my review! I was told to call when I got there since they do curbside pick up. My food was ready in 10 min. It's in the same area as a Jewel, but a separate building with several other eateries. I should have walked in and checked it all out. Next time. My food was promptly brought out and I paid through their Square. Easy peasy. They have a rewards program so I signed up for that. :) The lady who brought out my food was the same person who took my order. I have a feeling she was the owner. Shame on me for not asking. She asked if how I found out about them and I told her through Yelp. She profusely thanked me for my business and told me she gave me a complementary order of Bao nuts! I waited to eat at home. The baos were so pretty and huge! I had to try the chicken bao first. Anyone who knows me knows my love for all things fried chicken. The bao was soft, the chicken and veggies crispy. I loved it. It came extra spicy aioli and I did add more to my bao. I probably could have stopped there and saved my pork belly bao, but I wanted to eat it right away. The pork slices were large and juicy and had the same bao and veggies which I appreciated. Extra teriyaki sauce was included. I didn't use that, but added more of the spicy aioli. I enjoyed the pork bao, but loved the chicken so much, I'd get 2 of those next time. Or try the crispy shrimp or one of the other ones. I saved the dumplings and bao nuts for dinner. The veggie dumplings were so good. Nice mix of veggies inside. I like the water chestnuts in it. It added a nice crunch. I should have tried one of the bao nuts earlier. I have a feeling it would have been better fresh. It was still good. I'll heat the other 2 in the oven in the morning. Everything was seasoned well. It was just right. The prices may seem high, but the baos are huge. I could get away with one or one and a half of a bao and be plenty full. The ingredients are high quality and well cooked. I think it's worth the prices. I will for sure be back. Tell all your friends!

Chicken dumpling: this was good. Full of flavor and crispy Spicy aioli chicken- this was delicious! Would definitely get this again Spicy shrimp aoli- this was okay definitely think the chicken was the best Teriyaki- this was okay the sauce was on the side so we were able to add how much we wanted Nutella - this was a good closing dessert S'mores - my husband like this one more than Nutella. We got a free dessert and it reminded me of a a churro

Not a bad thing to say about this place - the food was nice and hot and ready pretty quickly (I'd recommend not letting it sit too long , it might not microwave well). Everything was amazing and filled with flavor. I recommend getting 1-2 bao per person and then a an app and dessert!

I am so sad to write this review because people loved it and I wanted to too. A solid 3 to 3.5 stars. I initially saw this place on Yelp Events. Unfortunately, before I could make it there the event was cancelled (this always happens to me). But I love bao buns so I still wanted to try it and I finally got around to it. The service: I ordered online, got a text and email about my order. When it was ready, I was given a locker number to pick up my food via text. I walked in, went to my locker, and grabbed my food. I never interacted with a human, though I got a handwritten thank you note. The food: I only ordered the teriyaki pork belly bao buns and the crispy chicken dumplings. The bao bun and amount of pork belly were plentiful. The pork belly had a good texture (not too chewy). I wish there was more teriyaki and/or more seasoning or more dressings because I felt like the bao bun itself, which was larger than I expected, overpowered the pork belly. I found myself wanting more flavor. The chicken dumplings were 4/5. I wish they had a little more crunch and that the chicken was more seasoned. I dunked them in the included soy sauce, which I enjoyed a lot. I would potentially go back and try another bao flavor but every Yelp review says I picked the best one. **I say give it a try...but I am not sure I would be back.

Went to this place not knowing it's not really a sit down place rather a take out location but they had a counter on each side of the door along the window with a few chairs so we sat and ate our bao buns. We drove 7 hrs to try them along with other eateries. The bao buns were so good! The potstickers tasted frozen - not homemade but that's my husband's problem. I came for the bao buns and would definitely come again. It's located next to a Jewel Osco so lots of free parking all over.

I don't really write reviews very much but wow I am blown away by this place. Whoever was in that kitchen tonight- made it happen. They cooked hard. The garlic fried rice heavenly. The baos were HUGE and flavorful. I ordered the bao dinner and requested to swap the dumplings for fried rice and they did it. The cherry on top- the cute note they included. I'll definitely be ordering again

This place has such a neat feature for food pickup. It's super efficient in terms of confirming your order and messaging you when it's available for pickup. When we arrived to the place everything was paid for and we just had to pick up the food in a locker or through the cashier. Our food was hot when we got it and it was ready in a timely mannVery convenient and nearly a touch less system. Food wise, the baos were bursting at the seams, but a little too saucy and salty for my taste. Prices are steep for what you get. The crispy spicy aioli chicken bao was probably the best out of the baos that we ordered. The s'mores bao would've been much tastier with a softer white bun. This place is still definitely worth trying as people might enjoy these unique takes on traditional bao. Also the management/staff is very kind and wrote hand written thank you notes with our complimentary bao nuts (puffy churros haha).

Bao is the name of the game and they've got lots of it! They have a ton of flavors and options and I'm excited about trying all of them! We tried the spicy chicken and the pork belly boa and the special sauce baowich. We also got the baonuts! Food 4/5: The baowich was good but a bit flat in flavor. It was a bit salty and the cabbage could've been cut a bit thinner. I don't think I'd get this flavor again. The spicy chicken was not something to write home about either. It was good but a bit boring. Better than the baowich though and the sauce that came with it was good! The pork belly Bao was delicious. I loved the render sweet pork belly. I really look forward to when we can eat these fresh and not in a ghost kitchen that way they don't get too soggy. Definitely will get this again. The baonuts were yummy! Can't wait to get the other flavors. Because this is a ghost kitchen I can't say much for service but they're super nice and really cool. The only thing I have to say is I wish the prices were a bit better. If it were like $5 per Bao or $25 for 5 baos I think it would be much more worth it for me. I understand though that people have to make ends meet. I wish the best for yall!

We ordered from this place with a high expectation comes from these great reviews. First off, the service is one of the best. The owner hand written us a personalized card to thank us for our support. To me, it's 5 stars right there! Now comes to the food parts: - Crispy Aioli Chicken: the chicken is a taste dry for both of our taste, but overall marinated really well. - Crispy Aioli Shrimp: The shrimps are juicy with crispy layers outside. Definitely want this again. - Pork belly: the taste 10/10. I just wish it would be a little more crispy on the outside. - S'more Bao and Cinnamon Sugar bao: THIS IS A BOMB! Their desserts are soooooo amazing. You won't regret eat this over and over again. - Lastly, Earl grey milk tea: my suggestions are less er ice and maybe more milk!? We both taste a wonderful tea flavor but it was not milky enough for me. Not too sweet though, so I like it. Overall: Service: 5/5 Food: 4.5/5 Drink: 4/5 Come back for more: Definitely YES!

So I decided to try Shang Noodle, which was tucked away on a side street off Grand Ave., just steps from Michigan Ave. It's across from the Nordstrom building, past Labriola's, down some steps and about a block away located on the south side of the street. As soon as I walked in, and I wasn't expecting this but the restaurant was extremely loud and nearly every seat was taken and everybody seemed to be enjoying themself, families, couples and groups. I figured that was a good sign and it signaled to me that the food was probably good! At first, the host wanted me to sit at the bar, which I politely declined because I don't usually sit at bars, also, I was there to eat, not pick up somebody! I noticed a small table open, pointed it out, and he kindly let me take it. No 'tude either! As far as my server goes, she was efficient, friendly, and very helpful with recommendations since it was my first visit and probably because I didn't look like the other customers who were more familiar with the cuisine. She suggested the pot stickers over the hot and sour soup, and the beef Chow Fun instead of chicken Chow Fun. The pot stickers were a little small, but crispy and very tasty. I also asked for some sweet and sour sauce on the side which I'm glad I did because it paired nicely with the pot stickers instead of that plain vinegar sauce they usually serve you. For my main dish, I ordered the char-grilled beef Chow Fun. The portion size was more than generous, and the char-grilled beef had a great umami flavor. A few of the rice noodles were a bit firm, likely undercooked, but overall though it was quite enjoyable. What I appreciated the most about Shang Noodle was the value. $18 for the beef Chow Fun and $9 for the pot stickers felt reasonable to me, considering it was on the dinner menu, the portion sizes were humongous and the restaurant was located on the Near North Side, which is usually quite pricey. I'll definitely be back, though next time I may try lunch instead, or go with friends of mine.

For entrees, we got the pork belly (hongshao rou) and they serve it with assorted pickled veggies plus mandarin pancakes. The pork belly was soo tender. We also got the dan dan slap noodles. I love that we were able to watch them through the window making the noodles by hand. Our waiter gave us some cookies for free when he brought us our check! I definitely want to come back for the jiaozi
