Am I crazy? Went to court and decided to try a different spot that I've never tried. I walked in and nobody was at the front counter. There was a sign that says to take the QR Code to put in my order. I stood there by the counter thinking ok someone will come eventually. A man came to counter and greeted hello and next thing you know it he walked to the back of the restaurant where the kitchen was. I scratched my head thinking, OK I GUESS THEY WERENT KIDDING about ordering through their QR CODE. I had to turn off my WIFI on my phone because XFINITY WAS interfering with my browser access. I'm stepped outside in front of their restaurant and ordered. I ordered their bento with a garlic sausage and a beef soup. What's bad is by waiting in their showroom dining area, I was never given a receipt to confirm if I put in my order. I'm not even sure if it went through. My card confirmed they took my money. So I guess it went through. Their QR code app doesn't even have a way to tell me if I made the order or not. Checked my email and still no receipt. My food was ready in 5 mins. On my way out as the young man handed me my package, I asked him "is this how people normally pay by QR CODE?" He answered with a hesitant tone, "Yes " I replied, "ok just checking." The Garlic Sausage reminded me of the Filipino Garlic longaniza. Slightly different. Maybe it's lighter but it tasted good. There was steamed cabbage and garlic seaweed. Pretty good. My 1725th review is a five star for this little hidden gem! Come here for authentic no frill Taiwanese food. Walking in the space is quite cavernous, with a whole side of coolers selling frozen/refrigerated products. Too bad we are traveling, I imagine if we live here we'll frequent this place to get something for home. There are only a few tables, so we weren't sure if they are serving food on the premise, even though the reviews say so. We ordered at the counter, there's a simple menu. We loved the fried chicken bento box, the chicken was unbelievably tender, and there were a variety of vegetables, as well as red rice, to make this a healthy meal. TRULY DEVASTATED! I was SOOO excited to try this place and ordered a few items. I ate my popcorn chicken while driving home and it was great. The best popcorn chicken I've had! When I got home I was unpacking my Sesame noodles and getting ready to tuck in. To my horror there was mold in the sesame sauce container when I opened it. The city/area is certainly large enough to support it, but I admit I had doubts as to how good some of those places would be. However, even after trying just one Taiwanese restaurant, I'm already jealous. Not sure if that says more about how scant our options are in SF, but boy do I wish we had a place like Taiwan Best Mart! Based entirely on its appearance, Taiwan Beat Mart probably doesn't look all too impressive. The decor is pretty scant and the space isn't all that large (they can seat about a dozen people across their handful of tables), though I've never seen this place get very busy, as most folks seem to get their food to-go. As for the menu, despite how it's not super extensive, it's still filled with a bunch of staples, like Stewed Pork Over Rice, Zha-Jiang Mian, Popcorn Chicken, and Cold Sesame Noodles. They also have frozen offerings of many of their dishes (like the Zha-Jiang Mian sauce, Stewed Pork, etc.), as well as a bunch of Taiwanese specialties, like sausages, wontons, zongzi, salted duck yolk, and meatballs. -- POPCORN CHICKEN BENTO BOX with Stewed Pork, Stewed Egg, Charred Taiwanese Cabbage, and Signature Pickled Mustard Greens...$15 I wasn't sure what to expect when I got this, but this was great! The chicken was moist, the batter was crispy and well seasoned, the stewed pork was luscious and flavorful, and the stewed egg was cooked perfectly. Would definitely get this again! -- TAIWANESE FRIED CHICKEN...$9 I had high hopes for this and, thankfully, it didn't let me down! The seasoning on this was the same as on the popcorn chicken and the chicken itself was really moist. The most impressive part of this was how the outside stayed crunchy even after the drive back. -- ZHA-JIANG MIAN - Knife-Cut Black Bean Noodles and Sauce with Ground Pork, Beancurd, Edamame, Sweet Flour Sauce, Bean Paste, Taiwanese Bok Choy, Julienned Cucumbers, and Scallions...$12 This would've been better for dine-in, but I love how the to-go container kept everything separate. While the noodles were a bit overcooked, they still had a nice bite and I liked how there was a good amount of meat, tofu, and edamame in the sauce. True to just about any mom-and-pop business, service here is terrific. The guy working the register (owner?) was more than happy to answer all of my questions and was really nice. Unfortunately for me, though, was that the one thing that I really wanted to try (their Beef Noodle Soup) wasn't listed on the menu, presumably because it's summer now? Not sure why, as it's not like it's also 100+ degrees inside the restaurant as well, but I guess that just means I have that much of a reason to come to Taiwan Best Mart! Between Binchoyaki, Southside Super, and now Taiwan Best Mart, this tiny patch of Sacramento is home to some really good eats! I like the various frozen dumplings and Taiwan sausage that are available here! It's very convenient to stock up on items like the frozen fish patties and other items of your choice. I keep them in the freezer for those times when I don't feel like shopping for dinner. All I need to do is pull one out to thaw in a pan while I cook a little rice and a few fresh veggies. They have these giant ravioli-looking dumplings filled with seasoned minced beef that are approximately the size of a hamburger. The rice flour dough seems rather thick, but they are nice and substantial for an easy item for thawing for dinner. These are so big that you can just have one with veggies. read more

The oyster pancake really did it for me, it had a crispy edge, sweet thick sauce, and enough fresh oysters to satisfy the oyster lover in me. Definitely a must-try if you go there. The zha jiang mian was a solid pick and the noodles seemed to be freshly hand cut. The stewed pork was decent and cheap, making for a good quick lunch. Pork belly is super melt-in-mouth tender and fat rendered appropriately (none of that chewy-block-of-fat feel). Pickled veggies a classic match for the fatty pork and authentically made. Everything was SOO good. I definitely would say the wontons are one of the best wontons I have ever tried, I love the spice of the chili oil and the softness of the wonton dough. Juicy and flavorful, they sell these to order and frozen so you can bring them home. They also have homemade wontons to order or frozen to bring home. They are delicious and I usually have to buy extra to make at home. The items that are prepared in store and are my favorites are the basil popcorn chicken and noodles. There were a couple dashers waiting for their order. I just placed my order at the counter and there wasn't a wait since the dish is premade. They have a decent variety of menu items. This easy to miss spot is such a gem, and I thank my fellow Yelpers for their high praises of Taiwan Best Mart, helping it to become the # 1 search under "Taiwanese" in Sacramento. As you walk in you quickly realize that there's not much ambiance, as the shop has three 4-seater tables inside, a counter, some dry food cabinet, and a freezer section. You order food at the counter, pay, and then take your seats. Service is pretty fast, minimal, though friendly enough. You grab the utensils and take out boxes which are next to the cashier's counter. The freezer is filled with frozen goodies, such as dumplings, wontons, scallion pancakes (a bit expensive though, $16 for 4 slices I think?), and more. Too bad my freezer is jam-packed so unable to take home anything. The fried pork chop is as good as it gets! Crunchy, savory with 5-spices, and juicy ... The bento provides 2 sides you can choose from - basil eggplant is very good. We ordered the century egg and tofu as the 2nd side but it never came out (and we forgot, so oh well). Can't speak to the century egg. Other sides on the bento - eggs with tomato, stir fried cabbage, pickled mustard. All equally delicious and authentic. The zhao xiang mian is OK, thick knife cut noodles. I personally would prefer thinner noodles IMO. Wintermelon juice is excellent, and not too sweet iykyk. The orders come with rice and vegetables as well as 2 sides of your choosing - I chose the egg and the fried pork balls for this order. Everything is made to order so everything comes out super hot and fresh! It's pretty flavorful and overall a pretty balanced meal in my opinion. The shop itself is pretty small with only 2 tables with 4 chairs each. They also do have frozen dumplings for sale if you want to take them home for later! I love this little mom and pop shop and I absolutely love supporting this type of shop. I always see them on IG with all of their specials, so I had to stop in during my work lunch. There was no one there, I wish there were more people there supporting them. I ordered their moon cake at the time for the moon festival- it was cute but it wasn't my style or taste I had their special braised pork belly bowl with preserved vegetables and it was sooooooooo delicious!!!!! It was like a home cooked meal. So tender, juicy and flavorful. I loved that this was on sticky rice. I also ordered a winter melon drink, it was a bit too sweet for me. Located in downtown, we found this Taiwanese store. There are some parking at the back or the road side. There are quite some good food options and the service is awesome. We got two bento boxes and a couple appetizers. We ate the basil chicken in the car on the way home and it tasted awesome. We ate the bento after our 1 hr drive home, and it would definitely taste better if we were to eat there or in the car. The chicken taste better than the pork. Love the veggie side dishes more than the meat/squid balls. There are quite so many frozen options too. We got some dumplings and can't wait to try them.
