I recently discovered Boba Pho U from watching Raina is Crazy's YouTube video, where she beat their pho challenge with flying colors! Boba Pho U is located right across from a high school, but parking is quite limited. I had to park on an adjacent street in the neighborhood. I was the only patron dining in on a Thursday. For whatever reason, probably due to the YouTube video, I thought that there would be more people dining in. However, for that hour that I was there, only two other people came inside, and they were there for a to-go order. You order and pay at the counter before taking a number and grabbing a seat. The girl working the counter told me she was new, but I was patient with her and she was friendly. I went with the #21 pho and the rose milk tea. I didn't realize the condiments were self serve until I asked for a water cup and noticed the array of various sauces. I grabbed a hoisin sauce and cup of chili oil for my pho. It didn't take long for my pho to arrive to my table, and from my first impressions, it looked and smelled good. I liked that it came with raw slices of beef on top as well. My pho was served with a small plate of herbs, but there was plenty of lime, which I loved, since I really like extra lime juice in my pho. While mixing the hoisin and chili oil into my pho, I found that there was a lot more meat tucked away than I originally thought. The meat was tender, and the noodles were perfectly cooked. The herbs were fresh, and the chili oil was really flavorful. The broth was clear but still had a good depth of flavor. It was not as rich as some of my other go-to places, but it was solid. The rose milk tea was a tad sweet, but that was probably on me since I didn't ask about changing the sweetness level (as I usually do since it's via an ordering kiosk). Raina did mention she enjoyed the pho from Boba Pho U, and she would be correct. I would be down to bring my husband next time to see what he thinks! All in all, I do think I've found a nice little hidden gem for pho in Sac though, and I will be back. read more

I decided to give this establishment another try hoping for better quality food. There is a monitor at the counter for self ordering. Apparently, the toppings for pho cannot be combined with beef and chicken. I was able to order tendon, tripe, and chicken for my mother. We were told this was not allowed after we already paid. The waitress substituted the chicken for brisket. I ordered the pho with wagyu steak. The steak was quite tender; however, the broth was not hot enough to cook the wagyu. The pho was just okay. Heard about this Pho place, we stopped in for a try. There's a big menu on the wall and then you order from the cashier. Our food came out quick and the broth was ok, but some of our bowls the noodles were either super too soft like over cooked noodles and then our other pho bowls the noodles were hard and seem undercooked. The spring rolls were overstuffed with full of noodles and veggies with little meat. The atmosphere was pleasant but it was very cold, lucky they had a space heater next to our table which we were able to turn on. Would I return? Probably not. read more

I believe I may have found my new favorite for the pho scene in Sacramento! Tucked away in the Land Park area is the cute brick building (think of a NYC art gallery or design studio) that houses Boba Pho U. My friend & I stumbled upon it and decided to order the chicken pho with white meat, paired with a honeydew melon smoothie, and one order of the shrimp spring rolls. Something new to me was that their spring rolls come as one cut in half per order, so if you love them like me, I would order a couple! The shrimp spring roll was super fresh and a decent size. I also loved the peanut sauce, so I had no complaints. Our chicken pho was super delicious, and we agreed that their broth (before adding any toppings/spices) was one of the best ever. I would buy a container of that on its own. I loved the texture and consistency of the rice noodles and found the meat and veggies were great quality & fresh! I loved my honeydew smoothie, but my only note would be to use more of the fresh fruit since it seemed like only a flavored powder and ice were used. My lychee jelly and tapioca pearls were sweet & delicious however! All in all, I really was blown away and impressed by Boba Pho U and cannot wait to order from here in the future. Seems to be a local hangout spot for the kids as this spot is across a high school. Small and narrow, but the food definitely makes up for it. Parking will be an issue as you'll need to park in the neighborhood to get around here. The service needs improvement. I had ordered a combination pho, which by the way, for a boba spot is really decent tier quality pho! That's saying something despite the attention of service I received. The front of house staff vs the back of house staff seemed to have misplaced my order during their rush hour. I waited nearly 30 minutes for my food. I had to go up to the counter 5 times to ask, unfortunately, all I received was that it will come out "soon". When I had asked the younger employees that were making the bobas, they just looked at each other and laughed before continuing on with making beverages. I wanted to take home a bobas after my pho, but decided to opt out as I was afraid that I'd have to wait for it for as long as my pho did. Responding to Owner: First off, I'm not sure what kind of water source you're using to have a 'commercial' water filter, but maybe the water filter should be changed out monthly instead because the water did not taste good. Secondly, please raise your hand if you enjoy a fan blowing in your face while you're eating. I don't know where the air circulation was going because the place smelled like the bathroom and the front door was closed. Thirdly, it's unfortunate that your bathroom was vandalized, but that's how it is in that area. Especially across from a huge high school, but why would you still open on a business day without a working bathroom for customers? That would be a priority, like making sure the prep cook is ready before you open. And lastly, the math does not match up. If I were the owner of this beautiful establishment, I would be more concerned about how a customer was charged $75.00 for 3 bowls of food and two drinks. read more

Ordered on door dash, we ordered spring rolls with pork and shrimp, the pork tasted old and the shrimp was not tasty i think it was old as well at all the peanut sauce that came with it was runny and did not have the flavor or texture of a traditional peanut sauce, we also ordered the pho with beef and no tripe but when we opened the lid behold there was tripe in it, i would not recommend eating here but maybe your experience could be different. read more

Went there on Tuesday during Christmas break to try the food. For a basic pho girl, I liked their beef pho on a cold day. The veggies were very fresh. The others in my group ordered the combination noodle bowl which they said was good. The servers were friendly and efficient. They had all the condiments nicely set up to grab and go. A nice little place. Minus one star for how cold it was in there. They had space heater in the corner which we happily sat by. Will have to come back to try their drinks. I came here because a friend talked up their beef rolls. And I haven't found a place that has these (but then again I wasn't trying really hard). Walked in and the place had been updated since it last was a Quickly which was a whole while ago. So back to the beef rolls. I ordered the large size because OF COURSE and took my number and waited. I didn't know what to expect since there was no real obvious presence of a kitchen but there was apparently behind one of the doors leading to the back part of the building. Okay pho, broth was pretty good. Got indoor and outdoor seating. Parking kinda sucks. Got their spring roll and combo pho. Spring roll needed a bit more meat. Sold as individual rolls. Had an amazing experience today at Boba Pho U. My club and I had our monthly meetings and support a local business. We were in the land park area and were craving Vietnamese food!! Boba Pho U did not disappoint! Robert, the owner, was kind, patient, and very accommodating for our large group that decided to go here last minute! Got food to-go and was pleasantly surprised by the portion size and quality of everything I ordered! I was craving a banh mi, and usually wouldn't order one at the end of the day (from my experience, I've only had good ones during daytime) but at 8pm the bread was still soft and crunchy, the veggies were fresh, and the meat was perfectly grilled and seasoned. I also ordered the beef pho with flank and brisket. The portions for the beef and noodles were generous, and the broth was tasty and veggies were fresh! Husband wanted to try this place out. Didn't sound like a bad idea at first. He first placed a phone order at 8:40pm. The gentleman who answered told him (me having heard him on speaker phone) tell my husband that the food would be ready in 15 mins. Which is reasonable time for any restaurant to have their food ready. We were coming from the south sac area, which gave the restaurant plenty of time to have the food packed and ready to go. We ordered the pick 3 meats pho and a combination rice plate. And while waiting, my husband ordered a honeydew with boba drink. As we arrived, there was a group standing around in front of the building with limited space for parking. My husband goes in to pick up our food, pays for the food AT 8:52PM. I sat in the car, waiting. My husband asked one of the female workers when our food was going to be ready and replied that she wasn't sure. Per my husband, the owner or whoever was in charge, said he had a big party and apologized for the wait, but why tell your customers who are ordering to go, that their food will be ready at a specific time when it isn't?! As he was inside, the owner/manager seemed to personally know the party and focused his attention on them instead of trying to get our order out. He did not seem sincere and made it seemed like he just wanted my husband to shut up and deal with the wait. He even went as far as trying to correct my husband and told him that we placed the order at 8:52PM. That was when he PAID for the order. As a paying customer and people who love to support small family owned business, both me and my husband did not appreciate the way this man handled the issue. Maybe he can take a class on business management or even a customer service class? Bad management only ends in failure in a business. And if he would like to respond to my review, as he has for the rest of the reviews on here, I'd be glad to talk it out with you. Overall, the food was decent. Portions were good. The boba lacked flavor, but who knows,it might be good for you? But management needs a tune up for sure. There won't be a next time. There are far better pho places in Sacramento that have much better pho and MUCH BETTER SERVICE. I'm only giving this place 2 stars for the presentation of the food and the taste. read more

3.5 stars rounded up to 4. FOOD: got a small pho and small bun/vermicelli bowl with pork. Both were good, but definitely very small. I think the portions could be bigger for ~$12. I think it would be more reasonable if the small was ~$10. I also got a hot milk tea with boba. I think they used jasmine green tea instead of black tea, which made it a little lighter in flavor and more tea flavored than milky. I actually liked it better, but I'm sure you could ask for them to use black tea instead. SERVICE: you order and then seat yourself. They bring the food out to you. It wasn't exactly clear if they clean up after you or if you clean up after yourself. We cleaned up after ourselves, since there was a bin on top of the trash that made it seem like we were supposed to clean up after ourselves. Food came out pretty quickly. INSIDE/AMBIANCE: we came in November, so it was cold and perfect pho weather. It was freezing cold inside at first, like colder than outside. For real..I was shivering. They did eventually turn on the heat, think they were just waiting for customers to come in first. Decor is fine and there's indoor and outdoor seating. LOCATION: right across the street from CK McClatchy High School. There's maybe like 4 street parking spaces right in front. We had to park around the corner. I hate writing these types of reviews. I always want to support local business but this place is a big swing and a miss. First off the prices. Not the best. For two drinks a pho, TWO spring rolls, plus a banh mi it was $46 bucks. Second overall appearance inside. It was decent, but one of the tables had peeling off duct tape on it. Besides that it was clean but literally every thing you can add on to your pho was in little plastic packages (wasteful for dining inside). Third was the food. Just. No. The spring rolls had pork but it tasted like lunch meat and was so thinly sliced. The banh mi my friend got said it was a little dry but overall good. My pho was OK. Was nice and warm but just not anything special or beyond being better than I can do at home. Also the peanut sauce that came with our rolls was FREEZING COLD. I've had peanut sauce warm or room temp, but never cold. And the drinks? Still just no ... I ordered the creamy dream drink and was told it tastes like Italian soda with cream. I thought it sounded good, but it tasted like carbonated water, milk, and strawberry syrup. Really gross and i couldn't even drink more than half. Also it wasn't very cold at all. Didn't have any ice at all. My friend got the Neapolitan drink which was yummy and unique but not something that really wowed me. The gentleman and girl working were very kind and sweet and so I appericate the amazing service they provided, but not sadly returning or recommending this place... Hope in time maybe they can make some improvements but for now it's a big pass for me. read more

The service was great and the man at the front was super friendly and greeted me at the door. I absolutely loved the drink I got, I definitely will be going back to get it. 5 star Pho update. This may be the best pho I've had. So many flavors in one bowl. They offer a bunch of sauces on the side, but this does not need any of those. I dipped a shrimp or two but other than that I dare not ruin the perfect savory deliciousness. I just ordered the seafood combo pho, small size, which is a loooooot of food for $11.95. Two bucks more gets you a regular size. Yum! I am not sure if he was the owner or not, but it was nice to be checked on after our food arrived. Everything was awesome. My bf had the beef pho and enjoyed it immensely. We ordered some pork spring rolls too, which were crisp and flavorful. Everything was great. I also love their boba tea and the banh mi are yummy too.
