It's been years since we visited, but while driving down Stockton Blvd last weekend, we drove by and it sounded good to all 3 of us for lunch! The inside was clean and just how I remembered it. They used to only have one size for their Pho, so I was happy to see that they now offer different sizes. We ordered the Egg Rolls, Chicken Noodle Soup, Beef Balls Noodle Soup and one of the Beef Soups. We also ordered a Bahn Mi to try, and my daughter got a Mango Smoothie with Popping Boba. Everything was so good, fresh and just how I remembered it from 10 years ago! They even had a "new arrivals" menu that is available after 11am everyday which consisted of a Crab and Pork Meatballs Tofu Noodle Soup, a Vietnamese Pancake and even a Sizzling Beef Hot Plate that looked delicious! I have also always been a fan of their Shrimp Spring Rolls and their Coconut Smoothies! Staff were very friendly and gracious - it was a breath of fresh air! Overall, Pho Saigon might not be the best Pho in Sacramento, but it is special to my husband and I - it brings back a lot of memories and holds a special place in our hearts. We will be back soon! I have been coming to this restaurant for well over two decades. I have to say that I haven't been here in a year or two and wow it's really changed. My go to menu item has always been the vermicelli with chicken and in the last couple years I've been eating that dish around the corner and a very high rated place. Today was feeling nostalgic and wanted to go back for my bun/vermicelli with chicken that I loved endlessly at this location. However, I was sad to get the dish handed to me that didn't look normal. I was kind of excited about the amount of chicken that was on the dish, but I could tell that it wasn't the same, and then once I started eating it, I was sorely disappointed the flavor of the chicken was just so wrong. Nothing was the same. The noodles were overcooked. I didn't have any cucumbers. I was very sad to say that I will not be ordering this dish here again. This isn't the greatest restaurant to begin with because you have to trip over all of the homeless people just to get inside and there's potholes in the parking lot. The bathroom is disgustingly dirty there's dust all over the condiment containers have crust on them, but I would always be happy to come here for my old favorite or unfortunately, it's no longer here. I knew something had changed when I walked in normally, the place is pot for lunch and in the late hours. Ample seating, huge menu with all your favorite Vietnamese dishes, and surprisingly they have Thai food as well. The pho is solid, as is the bun bo hue, served hot with all the fixings - and they do not skimp on ingredients at all. BUT, don't just hit it and quit it - get some appetizers too. My absolute favorite appetizer there are the Salt and Pepper Wings, they are fried to a crisp, so delicious and come with lightly stir-fried seasoned onions and bell peppers! I could seriously just get the S&P wings and a side of rice and be the happiest girl. We really like coming here because its one of the few Vietnamese spots that are open late until 10PM, and the service is great too! Let me tell you how good the service is, while I was eating there, a man that looked like he'd just gotten off work walked in at closing time, and asked for takeout, fried rice. They told him no, that they were done cooking and were cleaning the kitchen. Understandable. As he was walking out, they called him back and told him they'd cook for him. I've been to this place a handful of times now and I've always had a good experience. The location is a bit sketchy, but just head inside and be aware of your surroundings, especially at night. The staff is super welcoming from when you come in until the time you leave. I got the usual which is the number 13. It always comes out hot and delicious. This place is fine, and I am definitely comparing it other places I've been to and my mothers's pho. Pho is extremely subjective, but to some extent I just was not impressed since the broth plays it safe with its flavors. I'm a avid fan of not having to add much to your broth, but here I feel like I have to alter the broth they provide. Without a doubt though it'll satisfy your cravings of having pho. Generally speaking, when I'm in a different area from my usual haunts, I try to stick to places that are highly rated or that have been recommended to me. However, there are plenty of times where, for one reason or another, circumstances doesn't really allow for that. Sometimes it's because of the hour or what's going on, other times it's just because convenience had to be optimized. Or in the case with Pho Saigon, where it was getting relatively late on NYE and our options for dinner felt pretty limited. Not that I would ever really say "no" to checking out a new pho joint, especially on such a frigid night - who knew Sacramento could get so cold! Pulling up to Pho Saigon, it almost felt like seeing a beacon of light on an otherwise quiet and dark street (minus the illegal fireworks going off overhead). Inside, this place looks like just about every other pho joint, albeit with a lot more seating than you might expect (there even looked to be a side room with even more tables). Similarly, the menu is deceptively large - along your typical slate of starters, pho, bun, and rice plates, they also have a sizable collection of Chinese dishes too (think more like fried rice, Honey Walnut Prawns, Mongolian Beef, and Peking Spareribs than specialized dishes). Given how mediocre the food was, it's tough to get too excited about their large portions and service here was pretty uneventful, good or bad. As such, the best thing about Pho Saigon is really just how convenient they are - the to of seating for groups large or small, the wealth of spaces in their lot, and how they're open relatively late (until 10pm). In that regard, they're great if you're just looking for something easy and are okay with a no frills sort of experience. Otherwise, if you're looking to optimize for better tasting pho, I assume you can probably find better elsewhere. I had some rancid pork Pho there about a month and a half ago, which made me puke throughout the night after only about a cup full. I grew up coming here with my mom, and now it's my go to spot. I absolutely love the chicken pho, Thai tea, shrimp chow mein, and charbroiled chicken. The last time Joe K and I had eaten here was when we went to a Yelp event in which there was a Pho eating contest, but this was several years ago. We remembered that the Pho was very good and a popular dish with our fellow Yelpers. This time we met a relative / friend here to catch up and also have a leisurely lunch together. The menu offers a nice variety of different options from Vietnamese to Chinese dishes. I especially appreciated the vegetarian selections. We started off with a Fried Calamari appetizer. Which was OK but the batter was excessively greasy. I ordered the Vegetarian Special Dish that had a delicious mixture of Asian style veggies, along with fried tofu. It included white rice. I really enjoyed my food. Joe and his cousin ordered the Saigon Special Beef Noodle soup that comes with a side of bean sprouts, basil leaves, hot pepper and a wedge of lime. You add as much or as little as you want to flavor and customize your Pho. They serve large portions of food, so we ended up taking left overs home. Service was friendly and prompt in the beginning, but once you are served, they kind of left us alone, until we waved at someone to get attention at the end of our meal. Apparently, they don't bring a bill to your table. You have to pay at the register and remind them of what you ordered! We had a nice and relaxing lunch.
