There's some pretty decent lunch specials here if you're in the area. The highlight of this place is the puffy queso and the complimentary chips. The puffy queso is a perfect lil chips and queso bite, and the complimentary chips are thin with that perfect crunch. They are very addicting. It makes me scratch my head and wonder: How in the world can you fail this badly with the food when everything else is so well put together? To make matters even more baffling, they have a drive-thru and are open until 4 AM on some nights. This completely floors me because it leads to only one logical conclusion: Is this strictly meant to be drunk food? My review history on Yelp and Google speaks for itself--most of my reviews are 4 and 5 stars. When you're paying what these meals cost now, it's pretty disappointing to walk away with a bowl or burrito that feels like they're trying to put as little food in it as possible. The chips are also just plain bad now. I remember Freebirds having pretty good chips years ago, but the ones I've gotten recently aren't even close. The overall quality of the food seems to have slipped as well. The employees weren't particularly friendly either. They did their jobs, but there wasn't much sense of urgency or enthusiasm. The restaurant itself was clean enough and perfectly fine, but the fun personality Freebirds used to have seems mostly gone. It used to feel like a place with its own identity and atmosphere.
