Pros:…read more - EV charging station right out front - Ample amount of parking - Enchiladas were good - Comfortable seating Mid: - The chicken soup was only okay compared to other places we've been to - Prices were average. Meh: - There was a misunderstanding between us and the server. We had wanted 2 soups and 2 enchiladas, but he misunderstood it to be 1 soup and 3 enchiladas. Mistakes happen, I completely understand, but when we told the server he was trying to blame us and stated that we had ordered 3 enchiladas. There were 4 of us and we thought it was pretty clear it was 2 and 2. Given some time, he huffed and corrected the order. - After we paid, I decided to look at the bill and realized we were charged the completely wrong bill. When I went to tell the server he said, "no it's the right one", I repeated it wasn't. He said "yes, 2 soup and 2 enchiladas." And I finally said "but this says 2 burgers". Then he finally caught on and we finally paid our correct bill. It was a lot of unnecessary back and forth.

It's bright inside with lots of colourful murals. I ordered coffee, it was nice and strong, with milk arriving in a little skull pot! I decided to have a cod burrito, which I think would've been fine with a regular salsa but I ordered mole. That type of sauce is a little bit too overpowering for fish so I would recommend not to do that. It wasn't the fault of the restaurant though. The burrito was very good, filling and used cabbage with rice. The servers are all very friendly and helpful. I would visit this place again and maybe try it tostada or some of their other offerings.

Taco Bell is across the street from Woodgrove Shopping Center coupled with a KFC (Kentucky Fried…read moreChicken). A lot of people have negative things to say about Taco Bell, but not me personally, love the place. Unfortunately it's up at the northern end of Nanaimo, and I end up entering Nanaimo at the south end (takes about 30-45 mins to get there from where I live), so obviously I don't make a lot of trips up this way unless I've got some shopping to do at Woodgrove (which is pretty much the only place where you can get most of what you want/need). The $9 boxed meal is a pretty good value, you get a medium drink with 3 items and a churro (think Mexican donut) for dessert. Usually one of the items is fries supreme, but I remember getting nachos once and that wasn't half bad either. The other 2 items seem to change at least once every month (I don't know how frequently, I never went there more than once in a month). One month it was the Doritos Locos taco and a hard shell taco. Then the next month it was the Gordita Crunch and a Taco Supreme. Most recenlty it was a dual-layer taco, which is a supreme taco with a layer of cheese and another taco wrapped around it, with a taco supreme. They also have really good value on soft tacos, you can order soft tacos for something like $1 a piece. I'm not a fan of the hard shell tacos, and neither was one of my friends who went there with me one time. My other two friends who go there with me on our sometimes monthly taco bell trips usually also order the $9 box meal and they pretty much affirmatively agree that the hard shell tacos aren't as enjoyable (mostly because they fall apart!). If you ever feel like tacos, and you don't feel like cooking them yourself, taco bell is a fairly solid choice. Of course if you DO feel like cooking tacos yourself, you can probably make a nice batch of tacos that would blow taco bell out of the water for roughly the same price! But then you have dishes to deal with. If I feel like doing something crazy I'll make my own, but for $10 or less, you can't go wrong with taco bell.

We dropped in on a Saturday (around 5:00pm). The inside is colourful in typical Mexican fashion with lively music to match. Service is friendly with one worker manning the front. The two page menu consists of breakfast, plates, tacos/tortas, burritos/quesadillas, burgers, appetizers and desserts. They have some cheap weekday specials ($10.99 to $11.99) and pozle ($12.99) on weekends. They brought out two hot sauces: a mild and hotter one. - Horchata ($2.50) - menu says it's homemade but taste was mundane and generic. - 3x Tacos ($3.99 each) - we tried a fish, al pastor and carnitas tacos. The fish one was terrible; you remember fish sticks out of a box? That's what this was with a thousand island type sauce and iceberg lettuce. The al pastor was salty and slightly overcooked. Carnitas was a touch better but bland. They give you a good portion of meat but overall, tacos were disappointing. - Tampiqueña (#17) ($15.99) - sirloin steak, two enchiladas, rice, beans, salad and a side of tortillas. Steak was bigger than we expected, flat style and thin. The enchiladas had a good amount of chicken but the red sauce lacked depth and flavour. Mostly one-dimensional. Beans were better than average. Rice and salad were unmemorable. JMF didn't satisfy my Mexica cravings. This is why I wait to cross the border to get my fix. 2.5 stars.
