Back to the food, both my wife and I were not happy. I had fish and chips, and the fries were fine, but the fish, was soft and mushy, not the least bit firm and flaky. I'm not a big fan of soft, white fish, but this was cod. It may have been hake, which is technically, cod. I actually complained, which I never do, it was that bad, but they brought me more of the same mushy fish. It seemed there was more batter than fish, and while the batter tasted, the small amount of mush fish stuck to it. The absolute worst fish and chips I have ever eaten. I scraped off most of the batter, and tried to reclaim some more mush. Overall, very bad food experience. My wife was not thrilled with her food either, but I forget what she ordered. Dave S

I could understand them saying no if 1) I didn't order a drink (I would've ordered more if I got wings) 2) I didn't come here regularly (I come here a minimum of once per week and order off the regular menu) But to not even make an exception for me to bring home leftovers, that has turned me off this place, so today will be my last visit.

Neither of them did. After 10 minutes, the bartender (kudos to him) ended up seating me with the menus and brought up the extended Happy Hour. The "blond" waitress whose section was where I was seated, showed up with a glass of ice water and said "I'll be back". For the next 30 minutes, she repeated walked back and forth past my table, intentionally avoiding eye contact, and even thought it was more importance to wipe down 1 of her 2-seater pub tables than to return and take my order. After 30 minutes, I walked out, was provided the restaurant owner David P's personal email by the front desk (they apologized) and emailed him my experience on Jun. 26. He's never responded ! ! I can only presume that he's the one whose set the standard (or lack of) for how his waitstaff conduct themselves. I've had many breakfasts at Top Notch and the morning staff have always been fantastic. But after this experience, I'd strongly recommend that Dorchester guests and non-guests check out the better quality restaurants in the area (Modern Cafe, Gina's, Minnoz Restaurant in the Coast Bastion). The customer service and food are both far-superior and you'll never have the bottom-tier service experience at those options.

We'd made a reservation through Yelp and requested a booth. When we arrived, the hostess told us, "Oh, it looks like someone was seated at your reservation." So instead of the nice, darker corner booth we were expecting for an anniversary dinner, we were seated right at the bright front window with a romantic view of... a car. And can we talk about those front chairs? I'm a size 16 woman and could barely get my ass comfortably into one. Bigger gals, consider this your warning. Maybe that's the business strategy: tiny chairs = eat faster = table turnover. Thankfully, the FOOD was excellent. Seriously, 5. Everything tasted delicious, and our server was great throughout the meal. Then we finished eating. Apparently that activated the GET OUT sequence. We ordered a second round of drinks. My cocktail arrived, and literally about a minute later--while it was still completely full--we were asked if we wanted the bill. Shortly after that, the bill and debit machine arrived. My husband was in the washroom and I was asked whether she needed to wait for him. Nope, I paid. Meanwhile, I still hadn't even taken a sip of the drink I'd JUST ordered. Once I'd paid, I felt like our anniversary dinner was officially over whether we were ready or not. Maybe give people five minutes to actually enjoy the cocktail they just bought? I might even have ordered another one! A simple "Whenever you're ready, no rush" would have made a huge difference. And then there's the parking lot. If you drive a truck, good luck. Between the tiny spaces and all the 15-minute, 30-minute, Starbucks-only, Noodlebox-only, Little Caesars-only spots, apparently you need to arrive in a Smart car. Food: Service while eating: Service once finished eating: Ambience: Noise level: LOUD So our takeaway from Browns Socialhouse: bring a small car, a small ass, and apparently don't plan on doing too much socializing over a couple of drinks.
