I arrived at 11:30am to learn the restaurant didn't open until noon. I decided to wait so went for a walk returning at 11:55am to discover most of the tables were taken. The server told me there were no seats available even though I could see one seat at the bar/window. Disappointed, I asked if I could order to-go and was directed to the owner behind the till. I told her that I really enjoyed the burger I'd had on my first visit so wanted to order the same thing. 'THAT IS NOT THE RIGHT BURGER, START OVER!!' I was completely taken aback by the condescending tone. Once my order was entered, she handed me the payment terminal so I could pay and walked away. When she returned, she didn't look at me, instead focused on the payment terminal. Then she looked at me and hollered "NO TIP!! SERIOUSLY!! After we put you in front of all these other people!" This was said in front of the entire restaurant which was completely embarrassing and humiliating. I was totally shocked! As someone who has worked in restaurants and tourism around the world I always tip - even on take-out orders!! The exception is when I get bad service. How would I have known that I was 'put in front of other customers?' I don't work there and it's irrelevant! TIPPING IS DISCRETIONARY, especially on a take-out order. A prudent, professional owner wouldn't comment if a guest didn't tip - or, would ask if there was a problem with the service. Q Burger is a must-visit when you're in Qualicum Beach. We got there for lunch during the Easter long weekend and it was packed. The lovely host told us that it would take 45 minute for a table for 2 as there's a wait list, so we decided to sit outside as there was no wait for the outside table. This place is amazing, love the decor, music and ambiance. It's been on "You Gotta Eat Here" on food network so you can imagine how busy and popular it is in the area! Our food was epic and phenomenal! If you're wanting a decadent burger or bite, this is the spot! Since we don't eat red meat, we went for the fish & chips and the quinoa crunch burger and honestly, they were amazing and left us wanting for some more of their delicious foods. It's addicting!! The portions are enormous and satisfies that hunger and craving. Best fish & chips I've ever had and I have to say that the coleslaw and chips was perfect! The quinoa crunch burger was just decadent and stacked with flavours. Love the textures, I upgraded to get the crispy onion rings, just mind blowing and chef kiss!!! World class food. Absolutely ground breaking burger cuisine with breakout flavours and a great selection of brews. I had the zombie smash burger with the bacon and blackberry jam. It was ridiculously good and the entire party loved what they got. Service was super fast - they really understand the meaning of smash burgers which should cook fast! One of our members stressed out because they ordered the same as last time, but we will be back to try something different next time. This is a smaller, more casual place in town that claims to be among the top 5 burger joints in Canada. Their main differentiator is creative burger recipes like an ahi tuna sushi-inspired sandwich, and the "burgerito", which is some sort of unholy combination of a messy cheeseburger of choice wrapped in a tortilla and then baked. Most of the burgers offered are smash-style with a layer of fried cheese glued to the patty on the griddle. I had a mozzarella burger and my takeaway was you should avoid this place if you're lactose intolerant as they must go through a million tons of cheese on an average night. Literally insane amounts of cheese, dumped on this already messy burger, made it somewhat unpleasant to eat, but it tasted all right. The bottom bun was not sturdy enough to absorb the amount of sauce, as this burger is absolutely slathered in a sweet, red relish that seemed to be equal parts barbecue sauce and the jarred, sugary green stuff you put on a hot dog. The greens are placed under the burger patty, which is a puzzling decision, as they wilt from the residual heat and go soggy from swimming in a pile of sauce. Sides are cooked to order in fresh oil (no burnt, bitter reused oil aftertaste that is common in these types of restaurants). The portions are very generous and the service was friendly and attentive. Be prepared to ask for a stack of napkins. Beer, wine and cocktails are available to go with your meal. There seems to be ample accommodation for gluten sensitivity here, though with a word of caution that the fries and onion rings are likely cooked in the same deep fryer as the battered fish on their "fish and chips" burger; I did not have an opportunity to ask if the batter was GF. That means if you are celiac your options for sides are potentially limited to the green salad. Glancing at other patrons, everyone seemed to be enjoying their meal, and we saw lots of empty trays, which shows there is an appreciation of what's offered here. Overall, if you're into this sort of thing -- messy handhelds and more cheese than meat on the bun -- you'll have a great time. read more

Good for what it is. The burgers are good quality. The food took an awfully long time to arrive for a burger joint, but I appreciate a small business like this trying to keep their overhead low and how difficult that is. The owner's wife seems a little bit tightly wound and this added a bit of tension in the room, which felt strange for what should be a casual, relaxed, ambiance. I think if the owner's wife were a bit less controlling and would let her staff help her more this could work better. And I can see that locals love this place. I think the publicity overwhelmed this little business and the kinks might go away when the hoards stop coming. I would prefer if this was a counter service kind of place. read more

Tried the Q-boom and Royal Q-Burgeritto. Q-Boom had a touch of sweetness from the bacon crumble and together with the beef, there was a flirty reminder that tasted like sweet Korean bulgoogi. she came and left as soon as you identified her (the flavors) with each mysterious bite. The fried cheese is a real re-representation of cheese atop an Asiago bagel. When I was younger, I always wished for more cheese on that bagel. Fried cheese is that wish come true. To my surprise for such a visually dense burger, each bite tasted light and clean, not like it was drenched/soaked with oil. Each burger is served with a standard side of shoe string fries, aka skinny fries. They balance my mental mouthfeel of each burger bite that keeps it interesting throughout. Royal Q-Burgeritto I initially thought it was gimmicky to wrap a tortilla around a burger. But it didn't feel that way, there was a layer of cheese in additional to the wrap that gave it a visual pull and added texture with the cheese strings layering after each bite. In addition, the wrap has been additionally toasted. I did have a thought if the burger bun was left out since tortilla and bun might just be too much carbs. Perhaps that would make it just a burrito and be gimmicky if it was still called a burgeritto. Taste wise the shredded veggies reminded of a Big Mac in taste. I don't have a problem with it, sometimes I do crave for a Big Mac. But more importantly I felt that it needed a sharper acid maybe from worcestershire, bbq or some pickles? Maybe it's not the intent? I'd leave it to the owners to own their flavours. Overall it's a cheeky fun burger when you ponder as a kid- what if a burger and burrito had a baby. For extra money, the fries were switched out for onion rings and they were nice, big and crispy. I've had so many burgers all around and they tend to have similar taste profiles and look. The 2 burgers I've had were indicative of the owners and I only applaud them for being bold and courageous to put their fun loving ideas on the menu. They walked a fine line between child- like ideas done well Vs immaturity and disgust. And I felt the fun in it. Thank you for that. The burgers here were FUN in presentation and worth the detour if you're in the area. Definitely recommended. Advise: -Come with friends, get 4 burgers and split them 4 ways. So this was my second attempt to get in 2 days. The previous day I was told they do not do take out as they were busy. But half the restaurant was empty. They explained that there is a wait list the next day I was there. If there is a wait list then why are the seats not full? Anyhow the server had to go ask if I could get in and final they seated me. I tried to wrap my brain around why it would take so long but I could only think that they have only one cook in the back, That being said the food was really good. Probably the absolute worst burger I've ever had in my 50 years . Bacon bits instead of bacon fried/BURNT cheese instead of melted cheese. Billed extra for onion rings and not told about it . Absolutely no offer of condiments or water or anything else one may want. AND THE BIG KICKER ..... was asked to pay with tip before receiving any food or drink. This is a sit down establishment not an A&W burger joint which by the way has tastier burgers than this place . I had the Q-Boom burger. It was well constructed well but in the end the bacon crumbles was the strongest taste. Had the burger been more flavoured or juicy or thicker in proportionate to everything else that was going on it might have stood out. My advice would be to concentrate on the meat not the glitz. Just kinda fell short for the price. I'd be hesitant to try again. Ok so it's just a burger. What's the big deal? We just Tried Q Burger for the first time today from a recommendation Threw my sister In law who has Dietary restrictions as do I. She said they have great GF options so we gave it a shot. We were not disappointed, my husband who has no restrictions had a burger wrap and said it was the best burger he ever ate. I had a GF chicken burger which they custom made for me with my choice of toppings, the GF bun was Delicious and reminded me of corn bread but less crumbly. The entire experience was top notch.
