The final approach is inside the airport building. Has lovely views of the airport and often something interesting going on on the tarmac. Staff are attentive, knowledgeable of their menu and generally happy. The food has always been really good, portion sizes are filling and delicious. I have had the fish and chips, halibut and throughly enjoyed them. Last night I tried the chorizo and prawn linguini and was nicely surprised by the amount of sausage and prawns I got. Was amazing. unaccommodating, unprofessional staff; management too busy "cutting meat" to talk to concerned customers when we arrived, we were told to sit anywhere. we were not told there was a time limit on our table or any other table. Our party was INTERRUPTED 3 TIMES, starting at 6pm, by an unfriendly waitress: "you have to leave as the table is reserved at 630pm" this was totally perplexing given the fact that there were 4 empty tables beside us & the patio was open, but totally empty - why werent we given the option of another table? why wouldnt a waitress honor customers who were already there, who continued to order menu items throughout the evening & were now being given the bum's rush out the door after spending over $160. it was 640pm when we exited the building & there were still 4 empty tables & no one in the patio being a waitress is about more than serving food! making customers feel cared for & welcome is equally important. there is a lot of competition in the pv/qb area, so i'm not sure why a restauranter - one with so many empty tables on a saturday night - would allow staff to treat customers this way. most people simply wouldnt report what happened; they would just not come back since there was no manager on site on this saturday evening, i arranged to call ian when i knew he'd be there. the woman who answered the phone demanded to know my name, why i was calling, what i wanted etc. as soon as she found out that i was merely a customer with a concern about an incident in the restaurant, i was told ian couldnt come to the phone because "he was cutting meat" our first approach to final approach will be our last read more

Hidden gem alert! Final Approach is located in the Qualicum airport. Service was fast and friendly. Food was simple, well prepared and perfectly seasoned. Classic "pub food" done well. All our dishes were delicious and decently portioned. Calamari was exceptional. Not rubbery or overcooked, instead lightly breaded and crispy outside and juicy and tender in the middle. I would definitely go out of my way to go here again. I hear brunch is amazing so that'll be my next visit. read more

The Final Apporach is a small restaurant inside the Qualicum Beach Airport on Vancouver Island. I arrived at the small airport an hour early so I thought i'd have a beer inside. They have a small patio area with about 5 tables so i got to enjoy my beverage while being about 100 metres from where planes were landing and loading up passengers. Neat spot on a clear day. Inside is a kitchen and full bar that has a very cozy feeling to it. Plenty of light and of course a view of the runway. I didn't have any food so unfortunetly I'm not able to comment on that area, but my beer was crisp cold and a decent price so I was happy. Now, the airport is the size of a large 3 bedroom bungalow, so this place is the only place to eat in the airport. Regardless, I'd drop in if I fly through the area again. read more

The best food I ever had at an airport. We went there to watch the planes take off and land. Unfortunately, due to the forest fire smoke, the only plane we saw using the runway flew over us to land as we were driving in. I had the amaretto salmon and prawns and it was cooked to perfection. My "wife" had the steak and she enjoyed it as well. For dessert I had the caramel cheesecake suitably drenched in caramel sauce. It was exactly what I was looking for on that day but it's maybe too sweet for another day. She had the coconut cream pie. I had a bite of it but didn't like it as much. We heard amazing reviews of this little restaurant based out of Qualicum's small airport. We drove into the parking lot once to see where it might be and saw loads of people coming out looking all satisfied and happy and vowed to give it a try even though on first approach, The Final Approach was not very interesting looking. Yesterday we decided to give it a try as we had a plane lover in town for the weekend. We sat on the patio and had a fabulous view of all the small commercial and private planes landing and taking off. What fun! We mentioned to the very genial waiter we'd heard good things and were looking forward to our lunch. The menu was not overly exciting, rather "plain" actually (sorry about the pun). Items you could get almost anywhere. One of our party ordered the steak sandwich and salad, and the other 3 all ordered 1 piece of cod and chips. Well, we waited, and waited- and waited. About 45 minutes later the waiter announced that our order some how never made the kitchen and would be out shortly, we were quite hungry by then. I said, "free desserts?!" When our food came out the steak was about a 6 oz New York with a smallish salad. The person who ordered it said it was very good. The other fish and chip orders all looked a little over cooked. My personal cod piece was actually dried out at the edges and a little greasy. After our meal the waiter graciously indulged us in 2 feee desserts; a delicious key lime pie and a Sticky toffee pudding which we all shared. In my opinion they were the best part of the meal. Probably won't go back anytime soon and definitely not taking company. Not that special. The atmosphere in the restaurant part felt more cafeteria than dining room. Loved watching the planes though! Perhaps the saving grace of this eatery. read more

After reserving a table on a Wednesday in January we were a little disappointed to learn that they had sold out of both Salmon and Halibut. But, they were full and probably got surprised. I'm giving them the benefit since the food, presentation and service was incredible! We also learned that this restaurant was under new management. Had 3 breakfasts here, all 3 were less than desirable, first two times the bread was hard, third it was average, breakie bowl is very bland, did not feel good after eating it, I won't be flying into final approach for another meal, would rather avoid the high turbulent trots read more

Flew up from Victoria with my girlfriend, her sister and daughter to have dinner here. Wonderful evening. The special, was a salmon and crab cake, which we all had, and it was wonderful. Service was timely, professional and courteous. Meal was great. I could not par take on the wine, which was a house white, but told it was also nice. A good experience all around. We stopped for lunch on our way down to the Duke Point ferry. Sat outside and enjoyed the meal very much - halibut and chips were outstanding - fresh huge pieces of fish.
