i ordered turkey dinner, the turkey was about 4-5 dried up shreds, the "stuffing was so wet I could've wrung it out and filled a water glass, the veg must've been cooked in 1985. The place was empty all the blinds were closed so it was dark, I asked to open blind and he opened it about 6" and said "now it'll be hot in here" walked away. never came back to check anything. I ate two dried bits of turkey and one spoon of fake mashed potatoe as my fork wouldn't go all the way thru due to the crispy, overcooked bottom, and pushed the stuffing plate around I didn't even try it. He charged me FULL PRICE I told him I will be leaving multiple bad reviews and would never be back. he said "okay" and turned away read more

This is an old time diner attached to a motel on the road between Nanaimo and Victoria. You have to climb some outside stairs to reach the restaurant. It is very old and dated restaurants. Servers did no wear masks. My husband had the savoury waffle that he did not enjoy and I had a BLT sandwich. It was okay but very basic. The food was very underwhelming. Service was okay. There was no interaction between the servers and customers. The washrooms are downstairs and downright dirty, creepy and gross. We would not return. read more

Really enjoyed the mushroom soup and reuben sandwich. The waiter had a demeanor that I greatly enjoyed. Quick service. Loved the classic rock theme. The bathrooms were clean. We were kind of in between time, A little too late for lunch - but a bit early on dinner. Came into the restaurant around 2:30pm - 3:00pm Not very busy at all, sat ourselves at the guidance of our waiter. Ordered the Yam fries and Chipotle mayo to start/ split between the two of us. And was pleasantly surprised; a decent portion to share and enough chipotle sauce until the end of the bowl of fries. I ordered the full sausage dinner(they do their entire lunch/dinner menu all day) With side fries and seasonal vegetables - very good, sausages cooked all the way through, plenty of gravy covering both the fries and sausages. My partner ordered Fehttuchini Alfredo with shrimp, upon first glance it seemed to be under seasoned, white sauce on fettuccini noodles and shrimp throughout. Part way through eating; she had found a shrimp with the tail still attached. Not the biggest deal, it happens in our lovely island sometimes you get a shrimp tail. She was overall unhappy with her meal and ate about half of it before we went to cash out. We didn't bring attention of it until the end of her meal, which may be wrong in this case - but she didn't want to eat anything else off the menu. Just wanted to get the meal comped and make our way out. I brought the concern to our waiter whom also took payment of the bill, after a bit of back and forth he thought that taking 5$ off the fettuccini was fair recourse. Because it was only one shrimp tail "and that happens". While I agree, their was no other satisfaction and he generally didn't seem concerned that she hadn't enjoyed her meal and there was a technical "mistake". The knowledge he provided myself was that they get their shrimp from a bag from a different company, and she may have gotten the one shell. I unhappily paid the rest of the and we departed. It's not that the service was bad, he was a pleasant fellow and the food came out very quickly. But the thought of paying for a half eaten meal, with a shrimp tail in it, just left a bad taste in our mouths. Overall, good looking restaurant; fair priced menu and it over looks the water. Usually love Alice's. However listening to the owner swearing and carrying on like a small child was not a good experience.

My favourite breakfast place. Always have great service here. Food comes fast. Most recently ordered the eggs Benedict and it came smothered in hollandaise. So delicious. They have redone their menu within the last couple years so it's not as large as it used to be. read more

What can you even say about this place? The prices are moderately cheap. I used to go to Manhattan's in harewood but when it closed down it was basically Alice's as far as the greasy spoon dinners went. So to Alice's I went. The breakfast was decent, nothing over the top. Nothing fancy just a quickly cook hang over cure. From time to time I would venture to the lunch menu and have a burger, It would be pretty taste less but it would have fresh lettuce and tomato and pickles and all that. the patty was never over cooked or gross. now the food is disgusting. its over cooked, the burgers don't even have veggies anymore or at least my usual favourites didn't have any. The dishes and silverware have a weird smell to them. I don't know if it was because the waitress didn't like us or what but the service was pretty bad. It just isn't what it used to be. I don't think I'll be going but next time I am over visiting. There are other places I can spend my money. read more

Eggs and Benny was atrocious and the amount of Hollandaise sauce felt like I was lost in the sauce. I couldn't even see the English muffin until half way though the meal. Pancake was undercooked. Classic diner with vinyl booths attached to a motel in the south-end of Nanaimo. It's been there for some time, and we finally stopped in, heading down Island. The menu was way too big and long - just like the song, you can get anything you want - making it hard to decide on lunch. Typical diner food options. I settled on a hamburger with bacon and cheese with fries. I got exactly what I ordered, with no garnish on the plate, and nothing more on the burger, with an out-of-the-box patty. The fries weren't plentiful, but they were fresh cut tasting, not greasy. It reminded me of a burger and fries at Zeller's department stores, back in day. Ron's Eggs Benny was similar basics with hash browns, though one of the egg yolks was hard, not soft as ordered. For no-frills, it's ok - I'd go back because I have a soft spot for old school diners. I've always been a sucker for diners like this. The pancakes, waffles, and even the veggie burgers are pretty decent. I loved Alice's Restaurant for years, as did my Mom, around 1980 or earlier ... I was there on a visit to Nanaimo August 19th, and sadly I was very disappointed with the long, long, long wait for food, without even a word from the server to say "Sorry for the long wait". Such politeness WOULD have helped. When our breakfasts FINALLY arrived, the Bennie Bowls and other meals tasted awesome. I don't know whether it was the cooks, or the fact that "hunger is a great enhancer". Don't know what kind of star to give them, with these mixed results. But PLEASE tell the servers to tell guests the meal is being delayed and that they wish it could be faster ...Manners go a long way. Yelp is forcing me to give a star. Alices has been the "family usual diner" My family has been going to this restaurant for as long as I can remember and once knew the owners before the new ones bought it. Although the quality has declined at Alice's (Sorry Chef) it will always be one of my favourite go-to restaurants if I want my classic or a nostalgia trip. The owners that we knew before were so people orientated and bubbly it made for a welcoming and fun environment, everyone knew each other by name and they were very generous at times! They have the best veal cutlets (real veal), best eggs benny, best pancakes, and best liver & onions in Nanaimo. I have tried pretty much everywhere else I have heard about being good. AWFUL!! Waited 50 minutes for two breakfasts, (with only about six other tables occupied). Pancake was fine, eggs were weird texture and bacon looked and tasted like it was three days old. One bite of everything was enough to know I didn't want any more. Big sign on the front door saying "Chef Wanted" should have been enough warning. I only have myself to blame. read more

Booths are pretty grose sometimes arent clean. The kitchen is utterly discusting im suprised the health inspecter hasnt shut them down. Metal flakes on my eggs from the grill is not normal. Some dishes are alright some good food poor customer service when your served by the tall fellow. read more

The WORST experience EVER!!!!!! Took over an hour to get our breakfast served. When we finally got it served it was cold!!!! Sent it back, and it was still not hot!! Took 25 mins to get a refill of coffee!!! Requested 3 times to get a refill of OJ!!!! Over 45 mins for a hotdog!!! Our service last time was bad, but we were hoping that this time would be better.
