Will absolutely never return. The poor server was working the whole restaurant by himself. Left a good tip because he was very friendly but service was SO SLOW. I sent my breakfast back because the eggs were burnt. I had to wait 10 minutes to do that because the server was way too busy to do a quality check. After sending it back and asking for eggs that weren't burnt, I received (after another 10 minute wait), these eggs, which were clearly burnt, again. I just shut my mouth and ate because I could see the poor guy was doing his absolute best. So that's over 50 bucks and well over an hour of my life I'll never get back. Please don't go there for a good breakfast experience. I was in hospitality for 36 years before hanging up my apron (although I still own a catering company) and the experience at The Pantry is one I won't do again. read more

It was busy as expected on NYD. I sat at the counter as I was by myself. I ordered the classic egg Benedict with coffee and a water. It took almost 10 minutes to get my coffee and I had to remind the waitress. When my breakfast arrived, I was disappointed. The hash browns looked raw. And the eggs Benedict didn't look appetizing and tasted horrible. I couldn't wash it down with water as it never arrived. I took just one bite and left it. Ordered a beef dip with fries and a pantry sandwich.... The beef dip had 3 slices of roast, the bun was greasy, luke warm and whomever cut it had to smash it down to a bout 2" thick to do so. Food was okay but they have 'skip the dishes' going on and no extra staff to do that part. We had to wait while the waitress looked after the delivery people before we could get anything. Long waits for everything. Not fair to waitress and not fair to customers. read more

I never wrote a bad review but I think people should be very careful when choosing this place to eat. I ordered a vegetarian burger and when I took the first bite, there was a moldy taste. When I tried to investigate what could be that taste, the vegetarian burger was filled with little white squares that looked like wax. I asked the staff what was that and she took to the kitchen and came back saying it wasn't their fault because they receive the burger from another company. She asked if I wanted something else instead so I ordered pasta. Weird enough, it had the same moldy taste as the burger. I mentioned to the staff that it could be that the oil that they cooked both have gone bad. And said that "yes, it could be". I still paid 19 dollars for the pasta that I could not eat. My friend that was with me could not eat her beef sandwich because she said it tasted really bad, like old meat. So there is something very wrong with this place and the quality of the food they serve. In my country, they could have been sued for serving food that have gone bad. The Pantry has been put through it's paces on Opening week. Our first dine in on Opening night featured a dinner of Shrimp Po'Boy, Fish and Chips and a kids' chicken strip meal with my Son's first Shirley Temple. The food was served quickly and all was fresh and delicious. The servers were all fairly knowledgeable on the menu, prompt, polite and friendly. We were also very pleased to meet the owner, Peter, who made his rounds to greet everyone. We spotted him again today alongside his staff clearing tables and serving plates- it's always great to see an owner embrace being a part if his or her own team. Fantastic service. We returned today for lunch on Canada Day- the restaurant was considerably busier and slightly less staffed. Service was slower, but they were very apologetic. With a bit more time to adjust to their overnight success, I see this place becoming a regular spot. Next time I'm trying The Canuck Burger, which my Hubby had for lunch! Delicious! read more

Went for dinner on a Wednesday. On Wednesdays kids meals are around 4 bucks, a very good deal. There was also a 3 course dinner for around 13 bucks which was a very good deal. The food was very good. My only complaint was that the waitress did not mention the dessert with our 3 course meal so we just ignored it and did not get it. I would recommend this restaurant for families. I like that the kids got new packs of crayons instead of the filthy re-used busted up crayons some places give. We will be back. read more

Tried to use the 50% off coupon from yelp, but the young lady wouldn't accept without tve coupon number, in which yelp does not have.

The service was average and the food came fairly quickly, but it wasn't worth even a short wait and was definitely not worth the money. One of our party managed to extract some flavour from the shrimp appetizer and that was about it. The spinach dip was insipid, as was the worst fish 'n chips I've ever had. The fish (?) was coated in a huge and crunchy but flavour-free batter and the chips were hard and equally tasteless. If it wasn't for the tartar sauce I'd have sworn my sense of taste had gone. Convenient, reasonably priced and delicious. It was a quick walk from Front St and the food was well portioned so no leftovers. I had the potato pancake "benny" and the poached eggs were done perfect. The potato cakes were not fried but rather they were potatoes in pancakes. A little different than what I'm used to. I also had the regular pancakes with blueberry compote. I left there ridiculously stuffed and I would definitely go back for more! Loved it. read more

We decided to try The Pantry after calling to see if they had gluten friendly options, on the phone they said yes but once we got there, there was nothing on the menu indicating what was gluten free and when we asked the waitress just said "we have some things that are gluten free" and then with out telling what these options were she just walked away. Finally we decided on the Salmon Berry Salad and the salmon came to use uncooked in the middle, once the waitress finally came and took it back and brought us a new one, it was raw in the middle again. we just left, I would give it a lower star if I could, It's safe to say we'll never go back there. read more

We stayed in downtown Nanaimo,BC for a few days and run out of breakfast/brunch places to eat that were walking distance from the hotel. After walking and looking around, we came across this restaurant and to be honest, we were a bit hesitant at first to go in, however, it turned out to be a great decision. Our waitress came to our table quickly and she was super friendly and ready to please our hungry family. One of or sons is severely allergic to nuts, we told her about it like we usually do every time we decide to eat out, and she went above and beyond making sure my son's meal was safe to eat. Not only that, her positive attitude towards all the changes I made to my order, made me happy and made this brunch experience very pleasant. The food and ambiance were enjoyable and we got out of there very satisfied. Kudos to the server, I wish I remember her name but I know that we will go back again and for sure recommend it to everyone! read more
