Seared Cod

Definitely a let down. Menu looked decent so decided to give it a try. Things didn't start well and sadly didn't get better as the night went on. Took way too long from when we got seated until we got menus, we were in a section that clearly wasn't in the staffs line of sight. After finally placing out drink orders we waited again for over 15m before we got them. And these weren't cocktails that needed mixing. Placed our orders and thankfully they came in a reasonable time. Had the seared cod, decent just could have been a slightly bigger portion. Daughter had the butter chicken, not a whole lot of chicken and lacking spice. Because of where we were the intervals between seeing a server were too long and made for below average service. Not what I would expect from Ti-Na-Mara. Would I go back? Probably not.

Cedars lounge and casual dining with a fireplace and great music.

This restaurant is located on the Tigh-Na- Mara resort grounds. The staff are lovely. Helpful and friendly. Excellent service! Overall, the breakfast (amazing fresh baked goods ), lunch and appies are wonderful. Most items on the menu are great. There are a few dinner items that I were not my cup of tea.

Ham and pineapple pizza
Tanisha B.

my husband and I stayed at Tigh Na Mara for our honeymoon and had heard great things about Cedars. Of course due to COVID health regulations, we could only order takeout but the food was still INCREDIBLE. The first night we ordered their Land and Sea platter which comes with salmon, buttermilk fried chicken, slow cooked beef, potato gnocchi, carrots, brioche buns, and mashed potatoes. Every single item was a dream and cooked to perfection- I'm drooling just thinking about it again. The gnocchi's were like a cloud and the beef was so incredibly tender and served with a delicious gravy. It was approx $45/person but worth every penny and we even had leftovers. The next day for lunch we ordered pizza- they have 2 for 1 which is an awesome deal. We had the ham and pineapple and roast beef pizza. The game and pineapple was good with the ham being smoked, and the beef dip pizza was something different... but still really good and served with a gravy like sauce. We would 100% return and recommend Cedars to anyone in the Parksville area and may return next year for our anniversary to hopefully try dining in.

Creole halibut

At first I was reluctant to eat here because of the other reviews, but I'm glad we gave it a shot. With any entree you order, for an up charge of $15 you can add a starter and dessert to your meal. We were a party of 3 so we shared all 3 of the starters on the menu and 3 desserts. To start we had spinach dip, stuffed mushroom caps, and Caesar salad. I would recommend that everyone order the spinach dip as their starter. The spinach dip was super creamy and served with perfectly toasted pita chips. Our entrees consisted of the Creole Halibut, Bacon wrapped meatloaf, and the striploin steak. The serving of halibut was a little small for its price, and my bacon wrapped meatloaf was a little dry and lacked a bit of flavour in parts of it. Kind of like it wasn't mixed enough? The steak was seasoned and cooked perfectly. The desserts were so so so good! The cheesecake was creamy and dense like a cheesecake should be. The lemon pavlova was huge, as was the peanut butter pie. Our server Hannah was excellent, and attentive. She's probably 90% of the reason I gave them 5 stars. In all, I would eat here again if I was staying at Tigh Na Mara again, but I think I would skip the meatloaf.

Muscles with scallops
Chris B.

I appreciated the service above all else. I had the muscles in the scallops, others in my group had the salmon. All of us enjoyed our meal but mostly the service. We booked last minute so we are in the lounge, i didn't see it as much of a downside.

Ordered the Steak and added prawns for my dinner at Cedars. Prawns were the highlight for sure! Would have given a solid four stars but the steak was overlooked. Not so overcooked that it was worth wasting it. So much food waste at restaurants and I try not to contribute to that. Other components on the dish were good. The location is excellent. Went for a walk on the beach after and caught a bit of the sunset.

Service is good. Duck was horrible. Salty and tasteless. Hostess and waitresses were great, but chef should be replaced.

The signage to even find the place in the dark on foot (we walked from a neighbouring hotel) and by car could be better. Once there, plenty of parking (mental note) and a welcoming entrance. Our server was funny and engaging, but perhaps a little flippant. He also had to go back into the kitchen numerous times to check if they had things that were on the menu. They make gyoza in house, and it is one of my favourites. 6 PM reservation and they are out already with barely a soul in the place. Our beverages were pretty good, so we soldiered on at ordered our entrees one grilled halibut, one seafood pasta and two bbq ribs. Once the food arrived I was surprised at how small the halibut was given the price. That was nothing in comparison to the two that ordered the baby back ribs. Normally they fall off the bone when the professionals cook them, not this time. It was fork and knife time to get them off the bone which is totally wrong. I could go on, but you get the idea. I doubt we'd come back. Shame to have a place on the water and then serve food like that.

They were very accommodating providing dog bed, bowls and a welcome gift which included house made dog cookies! Prior to our arrival, Shannon called to alert us to the fact that their onsite restaurant would be closed Christmas Day and that she had sent a listing of local establishments that would be open (which we were truly thankful for!) We truly enjoyed the views (spectacular mind you!) and their courteous nature! Rooms were comfy and spacious and the cafe and restaurant were equally satisfying! Housekeeping was highly attentive and the in room amenities were well-selected! The staff of the Bayside are some of the best - kind, attentive and truly responsive! The only negatives worth noting were the lack of "puppy potty locations" most (located to the back of the parking area) were muddy and not very accommodating and the staff in the cafe were unfamiliar with certain style lattes (which will come over time) other than this, great stay, truly affordable and appreciated by all of our family!

For the most part it was very good, but fell short of a five star experience. With reservations we were seated quickly in the restaurant which was decorated for the holiday season. First thing I noticed is haw far I sunk into the seat, and I'm not a big dude. Second thing I noticed was the dirty wine glass in front of the lovely K. They took it away when it was noted with another off the table, but did not replace them. Our guests arrived and as locals they had been here on occasion and spoke highly of the place. Drinks were ordered and came out along with a bottle of wine. Still only two wine glasses, which our waiter offered to fetch, but I just gave mine to K. Should've already been dealt with. Both couples ordered the Caesar salad which we were told was big enough to share, and was. Pretty good salad, but the romaine was left large enough you had to cut it with a knife to get it anywhere close to bite sized. The entrees were good, a couple of chicken two ways, a lamb, and an eight ounce strip loin. My chicken was a little over and had no real carbohydrate on the plate. K's steak was cut right down the middle, for presentation, which she does not like as the steak cools too quickly. Overall it was good, not fantastic. I also noted the AC/ heat above our table needed a vacuum as it was very dusty, a little thing, but it's blowing air down on us. We'd give it another go, but there are things to improve upon.

Yes the menu is huge, but it's a good read! Paul was amazing, instead of picking off the menu he just asked what kind of meat I wanted and he did the rest. The kangaroo was amazing! Everything was so well prepared! Tip: try the Pharaoh cocktail, sooo good. Also I don't like coffee but when I have it it's with cream and sugar.....stay for coffee at the end of your meal, with no milk, it's a blend of 3 different beans and it's so yummy! The previous review on this place should be erased... How can you even put a review on a place you didn't even go into, live a little! yes the menu is intimidating but Paul makes it easy. Try it, u won't regret it!

This is by far the WORST restaurant I have ever been to. Allow me to recount …read more.. My friend took me here because she had been told by a few people that it was a Nanaimo gem. We walked into the 'restaurant' and were immediately greeted by an unpleasant odor. The room was decorated with both office furniture and mismatched sofas from the 80's. We were a little surprised, but decided to take an office chair by the window. Paul (the owner) greeted us and gave us some plastic menus as well as a few copies of his poetry books to browse. In between fits of giggles, we couldn't help but notice that the entire room was covered in dust, dirt and food particles (some of which I had to wipe off my seat before taking it). We sort of shrugged and thought 'well maybe it's one of those quirky places that are slightly sketchy but serve the most amazing food' ... Paul insisted that we choose a meat; lamb, chicken, beef or pork, and he would make us a special curried dinner. He brought over glasses of ice water crusted with food particles, some of which floated amongst the ice cubes and our glasses of wine, also sprinkled with a few complimentary crumbs. We managed to fish out most of the debris and take a few sips when our food came. My underdone and very pink lamb swam in a pool of watery instant rice while my friends' beef took some serious elbow grease to cut through and even more to chew. The veggies were covered in jarred salsa and peppered with a generic italian seasoning mix. After peeling off the VEGGIE STICKER from my yam and taking a few tentative bites, I decided to switch and try the noodles. Rice and noodles!? Yup. They were covered in this strange mayo, peanut, mustard sauce and totally inedible. There were but two choices: RUN or, ask if we could have our bill, gently explain that the food was abysmal and leave. We chose the latter and after still being charged $30 (my friend is a very kind person and paid as I opened my mouth to say we weren't paying a cent) we RAN!! I would like the epilogue this novel by saying that I do know what I am talking about, food-wise. Seven years in the service industry will do that, and although I can be a bit food snobby, I love to experience new and interesting food, even if the atmosphere is a little grotty. This was scary. Avoid at ALL costs
