    Qualicot clams ($18)
    Dahokolomoki Z.

Probably the most romantic bar to be in Ukee. Great views, with tables both indoors or outdoors. Nice dim lighting. High end decor. Great attentive service. I only had a root beer, so can't comment on the cocktails. For food, I only had the Qualicum Clams. It is under the "snacks" section, but the portion is big enough for a light dinner. Super delicious, some of the best clams I've ever had. Fresh, big, and juicy, with a nice tomato based sauce. Not cheap at $18, but considering the portion size, environment, views, and great service it felt like a bargain. Especially in an expensive place like Ukee.

Clockwise from the top: Caesar salad, calamari, nachos with no olives, honey garlic chicken wings

Since Ucleulet doesn't have many restaurants, my family were stuck on eating at the hotel. The day before, we ate at Fetch which is right beside the lounge. It was too expensive and not worth it, so we decided to eat at Float. There was a full room and not enough servers, we were waiting for a while before someone greeted us. We were sat at a high table with stools, not the most comfortable considering many others were sitting in couches, but it was the earliest table so it had to do. I even had to ask someone for water and table cutlery which was unbelievable. The menu has more casual and comfort food such as burgers and salads. My family chose to share some food. I ordered the nachos with no olives, (FYI: guac is extra for $5!! And I thought chipotle was bad!). The nachos were great and the chips weren't store bought tortilla chips but looked like they made it themselves. The toppings could've been more layered because once I ate the top, I was left with plain chips to dip in salsa and sour cream. Salsa was so good, had a spicy kick to it and they gave a lot of it too. The calamari was meh, it looked like it had been covered in batter, but it was thin and crispy which was good. But it had no flavour and they could've given more tzaziki sauce. Cesear salad was not fresh, and had too much sauce which made it very salty. Honey Garlic chicken wings were horrible. Chicken was fresh, but it was COVERED in honey, like they didn't add anything else! I asked for hot sauce so we could atleast taste another flavour but it made no difference. Table beside us had been there longer than we have and it took an HOUR for their dishes to arrive which is too long. Not a surprise since the food all came from the same kitchen which is the kitchen at Fetch. It was better than Fetch, but wasn't all great. I had high hopes for this hotel because I thought we could at least get some decent food in a more remote area. But I am left slightly disappointed.

    Tofino Brewing Blonde Ale

I have to give this lounge 5 stars for the fantastic view but they do fall short on the cocktails, food and service. The staff is wonderful but they didn't refill my water the entire dinner which they had even pointed out themselves but then never came back to fill it up. My mom ordered a cocktail which tasted heavily like rosemary - with agave syrup or simple syrup it would have been much better. I ordered a Tofino Brewing Blonde Ale which was crisp and refreshing. We had the Ceasar salad - the dressing was delicious but on top their was fried prosciutto that was super salty, and you had to break it up so you didn't eat a ball of salt at once. The calamari was great, yummy dill sauce to go with it too for your dipping pleasure!

An hour and half for takeout!! And even then when we got it, it was still cold. Honestly this resort is horrible.

Our server was young, but you could tell she knew her stuff. She kept our water glasses full along with all the other guests. The menu is pretty vast, without being too big. Plenty to choose from with a great sounding special and soup of the day. There really is something to please everyone. Our drinks were cold, and to food we ordered was great. The lovely K got the clam chowder and a starter Caesar salad. Both were very good with the starter salad being larger than most large salads we get. I had the Mediterranean falafel and the soup of the day which was split pea with ham. Both were excellent. The Stella I ordered was a full pint, not something I see every day, they are typically 500 mls. All in all we thought it was outstanding, and will most definitely be back!

We grabbed a seat by the window on a cloudy day, but still enjoyed a lovely view. Really, though, anywhere you sit is great - the cozy decor makes every spot feel welcoming and comfortable.

The signage to even find the place in the dark on foot (we walked from a neighbouring hotel) and by car could be better. Once there, plenty of parking (mental note) and a welcoming entrance. Our server was funny and engaging, but perhaps a little flippant. He also had to go back into the kitchen numerous times to check if they had things that were on the menu. They make gyoza in house, and it is one of my favourites. 6 PM reservation and they are out already with barely a soul in the place. Our beverages were pretty good, so we soldiered on at ordered our entrees one grilled halibut, one seafood pasta and two bbq ribs. Once the food arrived I was surprised at how small the halibut was given the price. That was nothing in comparison to the two that ordered the baby back ribs. Normally they fall off the bone when the professionals cook them, not this time. It was fork and knife time to get them off the bone which is totally wrong. I could go on, but you get the idea. I doubt we'd come back. Shame to have a place on the water and then serve food like that.

They were very accommodating providing dog bed, bowls and a welcome gift which included house made dog cookies! Prior to our arrival, Shannon called to alert us to the fact that their onsite restaurant would be closed Christmas Day and that she had sent a listing of local establishments that would be open (which we were truly thankful for!) We truly enjoyed the views (spectacular mind you!) and their courteous nature! Rooms were comfy and spacious and the cafe and restaurant were equally satisfying! Housekeeping was highly attentive and the in room amenities were well-selected! The staff of the Bayside are some of the best - kind, attentive and truly responsive! The only negatives worth noting were the lack of "puppy potty locations" most (located to the back of the parking area) were muddy and not very accommodating and the staff in the cafe were unfamiliar with certain style lattes (which will come over time) other than this, great stay, truly affordable and appreciated by all of our family!
