    Black rock sacher cake

"Gretchen, stop trying to make FETCH happen, it is not going to happen!" - Regina George I mean it isn't horrible, and my three stars are pretty generous. To be petty i'll give 2.9 stars (lol) After driving for over four hours from Nanaimo to Ucluelet and getting car sick on the way over, we were looking for some simple food. This restaurant is pretty pricey for the amount of food they give. Honestly not worth it. Slow service and wait time for food, considering the amount of people in the restaurant, it should've been out much quicker. I ordered the Wild Mushroom Risotto. It was extremely bland and had no taste other than the cheese that was grated on top. I had to down it in salt and pepper and even then it was tasteless. My guess is that they didn't season the rice. Me and my dad eventually switched plates because he is used to eating plain congee everyday and the risotto tasted exactly like that so he thought it was okay. My dad ordered the Duck a l'Orange. It came with a polenta cake and greens. It was really good and I was going to order that before but the menu described the dish as dijon mustard tasting and I don't like mustard so I didn't get it. The duck was cooked nicely and the sauce was sweet. The polenta cake was crispy and was great with the duck. My little brother got the mini cheeseburgers from the kids menu. For him it was great and he finished the whole plate which is unusual for him because he's picky on what he eats and this was probably the first time i've ever seen him finish two sliders and a big plate of fries on his own. My mom got the scallops and the oysters. Scallops were okay, some weren't cooked evenly. I didn't try the oysters but my mom and my dad didn't like them and they weren't fresh. For dessert my brother had vanilla ice cream that came with his kids meal and I ordered the Black Rock Sacher Cake which is a dense chocolate cake with apricot and strawberries. Honestly the cake was basically a chocolate cake because i didn't taste any apricot layered in between the layers. Tasted good, but afterwards I felt a little sick from eating it. Honestly, wasn't worth it, but we didn't have anywhere else to eat because we are staying at the hotel. You should save your money and go into the town where there are probably better restaurants for half the price.

Fabulous sunset dinner Called for a reservation an hour before and they could not have been more accommodating. When we arrived I dropped my wife off at the front door of the Resort and went to park the car. By the time I made it to the lobby the maitre had seated her and come out to the front door where he introduced himself and then escorted me thru the lobby, into the restaurant and to our table which had a beautiful view. I knew we were in for a special experience. Our waitress, Seka, was prompt and explained the specials. I just had to try the ribeye topped with steamed barnacles, yes barnacles!!! The steak was cooked perfectly and I cut it with my fork. The barnacles were tender, and as expected full flavored. I would order them again. The halibut my wife ordered was cooked to perfection and served on a bed of the best sautéed mushrooms we had ever tasted. Not a pairing I would ever pick, but it worked beautifully. We shared an order of creamed spinach which was very good and plenty for two people. Overall the best dinner in a long, long time!!!

Make reservations ahead of time for dinner!! Food is great, large portions and great views so request a table at the window. Restaurant is small with limited tables so dinner reservations fill up quickly. Service is extremely slow so plan on being there for at least 1.5 hrs. A salmon plate and halibut plate took 65 min to be served. Spent $100 for a coke, one apetizer and 2 fish plates so it's definitely pricey but worth it.

Great and calm view to enjoy with your meal.

We were seated at the bar where the view is the kitchen. It felt like service with a show! The chefs really knew how to turn out breakfast fast. It was like watching a well oiled machine. My veggie eggs benny was delicious. My partner had the heartwood breakfast subbed egg for bacon. We were both happy with our orders. My only note was that the smashbrowns needed more flavour I'm not a ketchup person... But needed it desperately for the smashbrowns. We would definitely go back. The food was fresh and fast. The staff were hospitable and we were glad to have stumbled upon Heartwood.

We came here almost right at opening for brunch and so glad we did. It started to fill up as soon as we were finishing up. Ukee fried chicken and French toast: 5/5 delicious, incredibly fresh. Perfectly balanced with sweet and salty. Came with fresh fruit to lighten up the dish. Heartwood breakfast: 4.5/5 again it came out quick and fresh. Loved that it came with fruit. I wished the potatoes were a bit more smashed so it would be crispier but other than that it was very flavorful. I also need to add that their buttered toast was surprisingly good. I'm not sure what they do differently with their toast, but it's good! Would definitely come back the next time we're in town.

I took a two-month hiatus from my job to travel the western United States and Canada with my good friends. Needless to say, I saw a great number of surf shops and campgrounds. This place. This place? It does both. It has the most dope, unassuming, chill, and friendly surf shop on the same piece of land where the campground is. The campground is hidden back in this awesome old-growth pacific northwest rain forest-like area with picturesque moss and gigantic trees everywhere. There is a huge communal fire pit near the parking lot for campers to enjoy. There are also bathrooms and, I believe showers, if I remember correctly, on site. Now the surf shop. This is not some freaking commercial, mall-type Billabong, or chain boardwalk surf shop. This is a lets-get-you-on-the-waves kind of surf shop. It has what you NEED and nothing else. If you are a surfer with your own board, then they have you covered with things you might need like wax, fins, and a wet suit if you don't have your own. If you are a surfer w/o a board, because, for example, you are like me and your mode of transport didn't allow for it, then they also have you covered. Why? Because, these guys have some of the most competitive surfboard rentals in the Tofino-Ucluelet area. Pair that with the discount you get if you are camping here and this place is prime. We had been staying at some crap resort (McKenzie Beach Resort) up near Tofino where people were packed in like sardines with campsites on the freaking road. We bounced and moved here. Good move. This place is super laid back and has awesome staff manning the surf shop (a family and friends operation from what I can tell). I'm originally from the Midwest and learned to surf on one of the Great Lakes (Lake Superior). Why is this relevant you ask? Well, they had "Surf's Up" on every morning in the Surf Shop and you could go in, grab a cup of Joe, catch the surf forecast for the day, and watch Chicken Joe (home break: "The Elbow" Sheboygan, Lake Michigan) get barrelled on the TV. One of the coolest places I was on my whole two-month trip.

Most of the arcade games were off - broken or unplugged, not sure which. Fun atmosphere otherwise with a large blackboard for the kids to draw on. I had the deer burger with fries, upgraded to poutine. The fries are crispy outside and soft inside, and that gravy was delicious! The burger itself was juicy, soft bun, but the sprouts for the crunch and the chipotle mayo for the extra flavor made this one a winner! For dessert, I had the ginger molasses bread with ice cream. The restaurant was actually larger than I expected. They had loads of bench-style tables and seats. There was a run-down arcade in there as well with some claw machines that looked like the candy prizes had been in there since the 90's... We looked around for the bowling alley that was supposedly there but found out that it was taken out. Service was friendly and relatively attentive. I had my first poutine of the trip. It ended up being saltier than I had hoped. I ordered the Korean Beef Noodle Bowl. Not that I needed more food, but for the price it was, I expected that there would be more food. The flavor was okay. Nothing to write home about. As I got to the bottom of the bowl, I found a pool of oil just sitting there, being absorbed by the few pieces of my leftover sad noodles. It was a LOT of oil... I wanted the bowl because it had a lot of veggies alongside the beef, so I at least got that. It's nice that it's open late for visitors to dine in and has a wide variety of foods, but none of our party's food stood out and wow'ed us, so... it was fine. Again, they were lovely, friendly people, so if you're looking for someplace welcoming to get fed in Ucluelet, I recommend coming here.
