Service was friendly and straightforward. It was a relatively quick turnaround for my tea. It was just what I needed.

Is Mislabeling Menu Items Legal in Ucluelet?…read more I ordered a "BAGEL + LOX" for breakfast there this morning. What I got was salmon on a bagel. That is NOT lox. I asked the girl working the cashier station about it, and she said go speak with the chef. So I went to the person I saw working the griddle and asked him why they're calling their salmon "lox", when it clearly isn't lox. He said it is lox. I said, "No, it isn't. Lox is a fillet of brined salmon and doesn't look anything like what you serve on a bagel." The look on his face betrayed his sudden awareness that I was right. He then appeared to start getting uncomfortable, and began looking for someone else to join the conversation. I told him not to bother. Their food isn't bad, but accurate labeling is important so as not to mislead the customer.

Starters were tuna nicoise and asparagus soup with seared scallop. Tuna nicoise is a genius idea with all the best elements of a salade nicoise without the unnecessary greens. The soft boiled quail egg was an excellent touch. The succulent scallop was paired nicely with the rich base on the soup. For main courses, I had seared scallops (again) & calamari with angel hair pasta and my partner had herb crusted halibut. My scallops were again wonderfully succulent, calamari was light and crispy, and the side pasta was very tasty but not heavy at all. We had a wonderful meal by the window overlooking the ocean We were hoping to see a pod of orcas swimming by but we were not as lucky as the diners the week before. Despite the absence of marine mammal visits, the main courses are well worth the $30 / plate average.

She immediately replied that the Smoked Tri-Tip and Smoked Brisket were their best sandwiches. She also added that they were getting low on brisket, and that it was a bit on the fattier side (just the way I like it). So we ordered her two recommendations. After a surprisingly long wait given how few people were seated, the waitress finally brought our plates. My wife really liked her Smoked Tri-Tip sandwich, but I was deeply unimpressed with my Smoked Brisket. Far from being "fattier" as the waitress described, this one was lean and tough. If you took a bite of the sandwich, the entire piece of brisket would follow it right out because it wasn't tender enough for my upper & lower incisors to make a clean cut through it. This isn't the way a smoked brisket should be. I smoke brisket at home and have been told mine is excellent. I've also been to MANY Central Texas BBQ joints, and I know what a proper smoked brisket tastes like. So Chef Brandon - there's a problem. Your smoked brisket is coming out lean & tough because you're doing one or more of the following: - Trimming way too much fat off of it - Smoking it for too long - Smoking it at too high a temperature I encourage you to reassess your process. On a positive note, the home-made focaccia bread both our sandwiches were served on was quite good. I'd like to give Cedar & Salt 3.5 stars, but I'm giving them 3 stars because of Chef Brandon's temperament when speaking to customers. After placing our order, we overheard his interaction with a couple of customers, and I gotta say - he was quite snarky. His comments seemed to drive one woman away from his restaurant.

I am a person in color and I went to Ucuelet on the way to Tofino on 31st of July. My friend and I ordered a coffee. While she was sitting inside I went outside for a phone call. When I wanted to go in there was a big man in his mid 40s who shouted at me and rudely asked me to wait to enter in. I just wanted to sit in my place but he was saying social distance which I kindly said sorry and waited in the line about 5 min till the customer finished her order and got her coffee but while I was waiting in the line the staff was walking around the tables coming so close to people without masks. Anyways, after a while I sat in my place and in 5 min the same man came and rudely told us we can only sit 30 min in the cafe that we should leave but there was a white couple who came before us and he never mentioned anything to them or the person who sat next to us. He basically wants us to leave. I am a young person in color who works for Canada as a voluntary support worker. It was very sad how this person behived. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE IF YOU DON'T LIKE TO DEAL WITH RACIST PEOPLE. read more

Love this cafe! Delicious coffees & food. I had the classic breakfast sandwich and my fiancé had the gluten free breakfast bagel. Both awesome! Homemade fresh salsa. Yum. This place seems to be the best coffee shop in Ucluelet, and can get quite busy. Worth the wait though. Seating inside & out. My fiancée and I enjoyed our mochas and breakfast in the sun on the back patio, while watching the town centre and harbour. Great staff. The owner was helping the staff and having fun. They seem to all have a good time and really care about their customers and quality of the products they serve. Everything was served to us with a smile. Lots of giggles in the cafe!!! The Barkley Cafe was unexpectedly good. Clean, friendly, cozy to start with, delicious espresso drinks and really good eats to boot! The Rhubarb bar was rich and satisfying and not overly sweet. The breakfast burrito was amazing - fresh tomatoes and herbs flavoring a huge amount of cheesy eggs and bacon. Be sure to stop here! read more
