It was pretty busy on a Saturday afternoon, but we were able to snag a table right away. Most of the donuts were sold out by that time, so options were pretty limited. I ordered a Matcha and Boston Cream Donut, and my boyfriend got a coffee and Maple Bacon Donut. Service was quick, and the interior had a cozy ambiance. My Matcha was very good, and tasted almost identical to a Starbucks Matcha Latte. The Boston Cream Donut was tasty, but the dough was very thick. It comes down to preference, but I love a lighter/fluffier donut. My boyfriend loved the Maple Bacon Donut though! Overall, a nice place to visit while exploring Tofino.

I told the cashier (male with grey curly hair) that I wanted my bagel open-faced. He paused, looked at me, then said "Why would you want that?". Why would I want that? Because I'm not a moray eel who can unhinge his jaw to fit tall things like a stacked bagel sandwich into my mouth. What kind of question is that? The vast majority of the 100+ bagel places I've been to in my life serve them open-faced by default. Why this guy was so perplexed by my request is baffling. If some customer requests soy milk instead of dairy milk in their latte, does he also ask "Why would you want that?". If some customer requests their English Muffin toasted, does he also ask "Why would you want that?". How about you stick to fulfilling the customer's order without challenging them to justify it? Anyways, the wife felt her Breakfast Burrito was just average, and my Cold Smoked Salmon Bagel was disappointing, though it was ultimately served open-faced. The lox didn't taste smoked at all, and there were hardly any capers. The arugula was messy without contributing much flavor. It would've been nice if they added tomatoes (like most bagel places). Not gonna bother coming back here. Also, the seating is very cramped.

The bagels are pretty pricey, but worth it to try at least once. One down side, is that they have limited hours due to staffing. But I liked the wholesome flavour. The chai latte was just the standard, but made well, with a very generous dusting of cinnamon. I got there shortly after they opened and just had to wait in a short line with my drink ready fairly quickly, but they were much busier by the time I was leaving. I think they take card payments now. I paid with cash, but I didn't see any cash only signs and I saw what I think was a card machine at the register.

This experience was so delightful for many reasons. Just so you know, we split the brownie in half and the carrot cake and shared. I can not really say which one I preferred but, I loved just having some time with my daughter and taking in the sights. 1) Super clean and had some goodies to buy instore, yes including local stickers. 2) My Daughter treat me. :) 3) The view... OMG the view. There are several photos of the view. 4) We met a few very lovely people and had great conversations with these individuals. 5) Staff are amazing and helpful. In general the food was great and the staff was friendly (one barista that I dealt with was not very enthusiastic but they seemed like they were just really tired). The setting is beautiful! There's ample patio seating, and whether you sit inside or outside you get a beautiful view of the water. Curried cauliflower handpie: A fantastic savoury handpie with a flaky crust and a flavourful vegetarian filling. Some handpies are kind of flat with not a lot of filling but that was not the case here. It came with a mango chutney for dipping. Chocolate quinoa cake (GF): When I was choosing a dessert when I went here for lunch, I felt like I should get pie, but this cake looked so good and I did not regret trying it. Really fudgy and rich. Fantastic cake that definitely did not suffer from being made gluten free. If anything, the texture was better than a regular cake. Lemon buttermilk pie: This was the only thing I tried that I didn't like. I wanted to try this one because it seemed unique, as I don't think I've tried a custardy lemon pie before, but it was too sweet for me. The texture was lovely and the little pops of brightness from the berries were nice, but it was kind of hard to get through. Vegan breakfast cookie: Good but basic breakfast cookie with oats, seeds, and cranberries, held together by what tasted like peanut or maybe almond butter. I liked the texture - I'm not sure exactly what it was about it, but it tasted fresher than a lot of breakfast cookies I've tried. Chai latte: Good - I saw them making it, and they use a packaged but good chai concentrate, from Say When. It makes a strong, spicy chai latte that's not too sweet.
