Shrimp and muscle fettuccini

World class shrimp fettuccine with an incredible atmosphere! Located right on the historic waterfront of Tofino

Salmon and Kale Bowl, Fish & Chips
Lanny H.

We walked into this restaurant, it was packed but they were able to put us in the "lounge" area to eat at coffee table level. The view of the marina was great with a cute fireplace. We had the fish & chip which was decent, and the salmon kale bowl. The salmon was a bit overcooked, but the kale bowl was surprisingly tasty and interesting. Overall a good meal on our first night in Tofino.

Strawberry white chocolate scone, latte

Shelter is an upscale restaurant for lunch and dinner, but they also operate as a cafe in the morning, which is when I visited. Only a small area of the restaurant is open during cafe hours, but it's still a really nice view and atmosphere, pretty quiet in the morning. They have a very limited cafe menu with a few breakfast sandwiches, two baked goods (a muffin and a scone), and drinks. They have all the espresso drinks you'd expect (latte, americano, etc, with dairy or oat milk and decaf available) but no tea lattes, only straight up tea. I had a strawberry white chocolate scone and a decaf latte. Rue scone was pretty good. The strawberry and white chocolate pieces were both so fine that the flavour infused into the scone but you didn't get the texture of the fruit or chocolate. I like when baked goods have a bit of texture, but it was still a good scone and I could tell it was freshly baked. The latte was very good! The espresso was strong but very smooth, no bitterness. Nice froth. I heard such good things about the restaurant that I thought it would be good to try the cafe since I didn't make it to the restaurant, and the cafe experience was fine, but a little underwhelming compared to the other cafes I visited in Tofino. More convenient than going into the core of downtown if you're staying at the resort though.

View from the patio, perfect sunset

Definitely one of our favourite, convenient restaurants in Tofino. Incredible view, great food. Opens late. During our stay, we came here four times. The shelter salad is really tasty. The chicken burger is crispy, chunky and very nicely made. The brussels sprouts are super delicious. We had the fish and chips, sufficiently good. Appetizer: really enjoyed the Sound of the Sea. After you dine here, you can bring the receipt, and get 10% off for the activities across the street.

Pan Roasted Pacific Halibut.

Phenomenal dinner in a beautiful harborside restaurant. Fresh shucked oysters, seafood chowder, pan roasted halibut, blueberry and apple crumble. Every dish was great. Good service. Only nit was our hot entrees were brought out while we were halfway through the fresh raw oysters. We would have appreciated more time to savor the delicious oysters. Otherwise-- perfect.

Frist time here know nothing but we choose the right food. Food was so amazing and service very excellent. Eating and looking to the view that perfect.

The Brussels are... slightly sweet, crispy, tender goodness.

Best I've had in the island... so far! Loved the atmosphere every bit as much as I did the dishes we tried. Definitely need to say that the service was outstanding!

Tuna stack

We had reservations at Shelter for our last night in Tofino and it did not disappoint! We started with the tuna stack and it was perfection! I had the grilled salmon with shrimp risotto and my husband had the halibut. Both were incredible. The salmon was cooked a perfect medium rare and the meal was one of the best fish dishes I have ever had. Only downside is the price of wine... Would highly recommend a stop here. The view is super and the food is divine!

Oysters. Can order 1/2 dozen or dozen.

Oysters were superb. Calamari was good. Steak frites were a little chewy but the salad and fries with it were good. Atmosphere is great and the view of marina is nice. Do recommend. The burgers coming out looked exceptional.

Nice people, cool vibes, yummy food. Had Brussels sprouts to start good. Warm olives were spicy and I liked them. Steak was decent and fries good

Nice views. In town doing touristy stuff. Beer on tap is good. The food was good but wasn't fan of the risotto ...

The entire place felt elevated but cozy - our table was upstairs under beautiful wooden beams and big windows overlooking the town. The vibe was lively but not too loud on a Tuesday evening. Service started out wonderfully and we regularly received fresh table settings between courses, however we had a switch in waitstaff later in the meal and it was incredibly slow at the end. No big deal since we weren't in a rush but something to note that it could be hit or miss. The food, on the other hand, was 100% on point. We ordered the potato crusted oyster appetizer and I was blown away - innovative and delicious. For my main, I got the halibut in a curry sauce that was just perfection. My friends tried the sea board, seaweed salad, and scallop gratin, and loved all of it. This meal was a highlight of our vacation.

The hostess was was very nice and gave us a table with a view (which I'm sure would have been striking if it hadn't been dark unfortunately). Still, we ordered prawns and a 1/2 dozen oysters to start off with a bottle of Blue Mountain Sauvignon Blanc. (i wasn't nervous about the oysters as the north pacific is clean for raising them). For dinner my partner opted for the chicken platter that she really enjoyed; lots of fresh components and interesting small side portions. I had the scallops and pork belly that I have never had before, but would absolutely have again here. Add this restaurant to your list whether staying in the lodge or not. We came for dinner and the view of Cox Bay is unbelievable! We got to watch the sunset and it was incredible. Too bad they don't have an outdoor patio but considering the rain, wind, and storm weather in Tofino, there's probably a reason why. Decor and ambiance is cozy, elegant, airy, and timeless elegance. Service here is attentive and warm. We ordered the house made bread to start (small comes with 6 pieces) with sourdough and charred leek butter. This was really homey and comforting. I ordered the Shrimp Carbonara for my entree and my partner got the Crispy Chicken sandwich. The shrimp carbonara take on the dish is served with udon noodles, shrimp, smoked black cod, butternut squash and topped with soft egg in a miso butter, garlic, chili, and parmesan sauce. The dish was hearty, filling, flavourful, yet not too heavy. It really hit the spot and I enjoyed it quite a bit. My partner enjoyed his huge Crispy Chicken sandwich and was thrilled that they had enough hot sauce on the chicken for some kick. Come for the views, food, or service - you can't go wrong. They also currently have a special multi-course for under $50/person from 5pm to 6pm.
