It was my first time having sole and it was exquisite. Compliments to Chef Eddie. While delectable, that, wasn't even my favorite part. My favorite part was the service. It felt like home the first, and the second time I stepped into Chasters. Lee made all the difference for each of two nights I was there. The first night, Lee helped me to taste the wine before deciding upon one. The second night he made the perfect vodka martini, and he helped me to decide upon appropriate indoor seating once it started to rain on the patio and was patient ;throughout. Most people go for Chef Eddie. I'd return for Lee. He made me feel very special, and like I was visiting with friends as a solo traveler, each of two nights. This is a destination restaurant albeit a modest one. I mean modest in that you won't find the trendy foams and things made with complicated extruders or instant freezers. This is great food without the gimmicks. Reminds me of the late Bernard L'Oiseau: food that tastes like itself only elevated to a sublime level. I asked what how the strawberry coulis was made and was told it was frozen strawberry put in a blender. That didn't disappoint me - it was supposed to taste like strawberry and that's fine. Love the duck. Love the fresh fish. We've only been twice so I will add to the review. Service is impeccable. Wines are great. Don't think twice about this - Chasters is not cheap but it's definitely worth the money. read more

I had good expectations for this place since it supposed to be a heritage site but upon arriving there was a Chinese son wearing sweats who peeked out of the office and told us to go upstairs to the restaurant where we had a reservation at 6pm. We arrived upstairs and there was nobody there. No hostess or anyone and we had to flag down one of the waitresses. We said we had a reservation for 6 and she thought it was for 6 people. We sat outside on the patio and the waitress was poor mannered, poor class and seemed like she was working at a diner. We saw another Chinese girl poking around outside like she lived there. The waitress brought water and we asked for some lemon. She said, "Oh, I will go and see if I can find a chunk of lemon for ya." We ordered the scallops and steak frites and waited an hour and 15 minutes for our food. We asked how many scallops and she said 3 large scallops. I ordered the steak frites medium rare as I always do since I studied in Switzerland at one of the world's top hotel schools and worked for 5 diamond hotels. No music. No interaction. The restaurant looked run down and unkept. We asked for the wifi password and she said it was "partytime55" which I thought was odd and strange for a fine dining type restaurant (our initial perspective). The service was absolutely horrible and I felt uncomfortable and wanted to leave. I couldn't wait to get out of there. The scallops finally arrived and they were small and not large like the waitress mentioned. Instead of a saffron sauce, they used a carrot/butternut squash yellow sauce as a fake representation of the saffron sauce that it should have been to cut corners. The steak frites arrived and although medium rare and tender, the wait and service was enough that I just wanted to finish it quickly so that I could leave. I felt like I was in detention sitting there for an hour and 15 minutes waiting for my food with no sign of the waitress. Apparently the chef is from Ireland and has been there for a long time. The waitress commented that he comes with the house. Upon leaving and walking towards the parking lot, I saw the Chinese guy in his sweat pants carrying some luggage leading some guests to their rooms. The waitress mentioned that some Chinese people bought the place a few years ago. I could tell immediately that it might have been good once upon a time but I was very disappointed in the experience, the horrific service and the high prices for such tiny portions. It was if they were cutting corners on every level. Very poor experience and I will NEVER go back!! What a dump!! read more

This evening, my daughter Charlotte and I enjoyed an outstanding meal with exemplary service at Chasters. Our server Bernie was knowledgeable, personable and responsive. His attention to detail was second to none. When I realized I had forgotten to give my husband keys that he would require, Chasters staff offered to deliver the keys... and they did!! As the food, par excellence! We did not meet the chef, but whomever it was was outstanding! I highly recommend Chasters and the BonnieBrook Lodge! Worth taking the ferry to Gibsons!!! read more

In the middle of summer I took my brother, his wife and their two girls (13 and 14) here as a thank you for letting me stay with them. My brother and i are amateur foodies, if there is such a thing, and love trying new places when we eat out and interesting dishes when home.I have spent over 20 years working in the restaurant industry My brother just made a traditional Venetian paella from scratch for Boxing Day dinner. We are by no means food critics but are by not rookies at appreciating the quality and effort needed to create flavour. We all tried each other's meals so we could decide on what was the best and there was no argument, it was the lamb chops and the red pepper tapanade. The rest of the meal was very underwhelming unfortunately. As an example, we were served half of a duck breast for over $30 a plate over which was the fruit sauce, so overpowering we couldn't tasted the duck over it. All I remember about the desserts were that one of them was a spice cake. Other than that the entire meal was very forgettable. All told, two entrees, four appetizers, four desserts one coffee and a $30 bottle of wine the bill was $279. I was stunned. I didn't take my shock of the price out on the waitress and tipped $50. I don't mind paying for quality and recently paid over $100 for three 12" pizzas at Nicli Antica and didn't mind one bit. Give it a shot if you want but expect an appy, entre, dessert, glass of wine and coffee to cost you over $100 per adult. read more

There are a lot of good places to eat on BC's Sunshine Coast, but I have to give this one five stars for the very best food I have eaten in an atmosphere that just cannot be beaten. With a stunning ocean view in this early 20th century landmark lodge, sitting down in this restaurant is a step back in time to the days when traffic was seldom heard. Because of its unique location, just off the beach and well away from the business area in a quiet residential area, one can imagine having stepped into a time machine and gone back to the early 1900s. The food is absolutely excellent, the staff is incredibly friendly, and while the prices may seem high at first glance, you do get what you pay for and this is a rare treat. Plan on spending $200 for dinner and tip if you like wine with your meal. You will have no complaints about the prices once you have experienced Chasters. Make sure to let them know if it is your anniversary! read more

Just a quick note: I've seen this establishment reviewed on tripadvisor but there was no mention on Yelp. This gem is hidden away off the beaten path in a mainly residential area of Gibsons so it's not a place that gets a lot of drive-by traffic. Maybe that's what makes them try harder. The food is usually brilliant or, if it isn't perfect, they will happily make it right. Great wine list and usually all available. Although it's considered a fine dining establishment I think the prices are quite fair. read more

Love this place. Great food, fantastic view. It is our go to place for all celebrations however was very disappointed last month that the servers are not wearing face masks and are making no effort to social distance. Our 20 something server was very sweet and I am sure feels she is giving great service but she came with in a foot of us to give us menus and take our order and clear our dishes. This putting us, herself and co- workers at risk. As much as I would like to support this business I feel the management is showing its patrons and staff little consideration if they are not following safe guidelines during this pandemic. I normally would give this place a 5 star but we will not be back until they follow the guidelines or the pandemic is over. read more

We wished we hadn't saved Chasters for our last evening on the Sunshine Coast - 'cause we couldn't go back a second time. We also wished we had larger appetites, as everything on the the menu sounded wonderful. We had the twice-baked crab souffle (served with an amazingly delicious bisque) and the deconstructed mushroom ravioli for appetizers, and split a ling cod entree. Given other Sunshine Coast restaurants we had tried (and liked), we just didn't expect the elegance in flavor and presentation reflected in Chasters' food. Bernie, our server, was a delight. I ate here twice during my stay at Bonniebrook Lodge. This restaurant is on-site below some of the lodge rooms. It has both a patio and inside dining both with amazing views of the waters edge. If the patio gets chilly they will offer small blankets. On to the food .... wow! The Chef at this restaurant really takes pride in his work and his passion for good food shows. Every morsel is delectable. I had the duck on the first night and it was cooked to perfection! The celeriac puree was to me a dish in itself (I asked and received more the next night!). On the second night I started with the crab souffle... light yet so amazing! Then had the rack of lamb crusted with herbs (and more celeriac puree). The staff are all very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. There is a different time line on the coast so sit back relax and enjoy some amazing food! My partner and i had the pleasure of staying at the bonnie brook inn. Chasters was running a half price for guest staying at the hotel 35$ off two can dine for 69. 2 can dine for 69$ a soup or salad to start ,one entree each and a shareable dessert. I had the mushroom soup it was one off the best mushrooms soups I have ever had in my life. Topped with a foam of sort and a drizzel of truffle oil. My entree i choose was 6 oz tenderlion with a blue cheese topping. Cooked perfect i might add blue cheese topping was very rich every bite melted in your mouth. Pototoe pave on the side. Desert was a chocolate ganache with an oreo crust, caramel toffee ice cream , and a dutch apple pie. Everything about this meal was great. Offered for additional cost was a wine flight. One glass of champagne or mini martini one glass of wine with your starter one 4oz glass with entree and desert shot 29$.
