Super friendly community where you get fresh and delicious local food and drinks. This cafe is located by the water at the corner of a block under 10 minutes from the ferry terminal. It's a very cute 2-storey blue house, and the restaurant is on the ground floor. I had lunch there on a business trip. It was recommended by the locals. The interior has a rustic farmhouse vibe. The Black Bean Burger caught my eyes on the wall lunch menu right away. Even though it's a veggie burger, the black bean, avocado, red onion, tomato, lettuce and chipotle mayo were such a good combination with the great flavour and texture. The buns were very fresh. They also provided some crispy potato chips on the side. The hot chai latte I had was very tasty and smooth. It had the right balance of sweetness and aroma of chai. Very yummy. If you live in the neighbourhood, you gotta know this place. I saw the locals coming in and out either dine in or takeout. Stopped by to grab some food and hangout before catching our ferry. It had a cozy vibes and was constantly busy during the time we were there. They do have quite a few places to sit, considering how small the space is. They have a variety of items to choose from; including sandwiches, salad, soup, and baked goods. We had the Mediterranean tuna sandwich and a cup of lentil soup. The sandwich was filling. Plenty of tuna and veg inside. It came with a side of those krinkle cut Himalayan salt chips from Costco. And ifykyk they are delicious. The soup was nice on the rainy day. It had a nice texture and just overall tasted good. Only complaint was that I wish the bread had been toasted slightly. Overall, it was a satisfying lunch and I'd gladly come back. read more

A solid place for all kinds of sandwiches and baked goods. The strawberry rhubarb muffin was my fave and I would give five stars just for that. Nice and crusty too, soft and chewy on the inside with nice chunks of fruit. We also tried a variety of sandwiches: veggie, Turkey, grilled cheese, ham/egg/cheese. All were good, with the veggie and egg sandwiches being standouts. Get there early for the cinnamon buns. Unfortunately by the time we arrived at lunchtime they were sold out. read more

Picked up sandwiches to take to one of the local cideries for a picnic lunch. I had the Coastal Veggie, with aged white cheddar, hummus, avocado, sprouts, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, Dijon and mayo on multigrain bread. I think that with a veggie sandwich, you really notice the quality of the ingredients, and this one was excellent! Little bag of chips on the side was a nice finishing touch. Delicious! read more

It looked nice until we entered the cafe with our two children and another couple and child.We asked if we could sit down at a large table (this is the Age of Covid) and they said it was fine. The table was gooey with sanitizer, but no big deal. The place was fairly empty when we sat down. We ordered food and while we waited our children became hungry and started making noise(they are 2 and 4). The place started filling with people and our friend went to pick up the order. He was told that there was a 6 person limit inside the restaurant - which is odd considering we asked before hand. In any case she subsequently said that patrons were complaining about the noise and that we had to leave. My friend asked about a large table outside with one person sitting just reading without eating. She was not willing to accommodate. In the end we were forced to leave which is pretty insulting considering we just dropped about $80 dollars and the kids would have quieted down. If this was a fine restaurant I would completely understand, but this is a cafe during lunch time. Food was good, but I wouldn't know because we were forced to leave before I was able to get my order. The service was pretty shabby replete with that wonderful Canadian passive aggressiveness that just makes your vacation extra special. Needless to say, I will not be recommending black bean to anyone. read more

This place has really good coffee. Its has a really nice taste to it. I am not a coffee drinker but I personally liked it. I was told the owner roast their coffee at the back. The decor is quite interesting. As well, when you are there, you have to try their muffins. I loved their muffins the most. Yummy. Very friendly service. read more

The food is good. It's a sandwich place and seems popular. We were here on a Monday afternoon at 1 and while there were people in the restaurant it wasn't busy. I'm not sure why it took them 30 minutes to make three sandwiches! Granted we didn't order as a group we ordered one after the other but my daughters both ordered veggie sandwiches and they were served ( to go) about 7 minutes apart. I would not eat here if I was in a rush. My tuna sandwich was good and the bread was yummy but my daughters noticed different amount of hummus on their sandwiches. I did like that they added chips on the side and that the prices were reasonable (my tuna sandwich was 7.50 for a nice thick sandwich with lettuce.) Made a stop in Gibsons to kill some time after catching an early ferry from Vancouver and needed an easy take out breakfast option. Black Beam cafe happened to be across the street from where I parked so I looked up the menu and checked it out. Pleased to be able to get a tasty sausage breakfast sandwich with some eggs and cheese on a nice ciabatta bun. Wifey went for a grilled ham & cheese sandwich. I saw lots of naked goods and other coffee shop fare but will have to try those next time. Staff were very friendly and my order came pretty quickly for how busy it was. I was in need of a break from wandering the shore and they met the challenge. I'm a lucky Canadian who had the afternoon free, and was out of two. When I found and cool place to sit, free wifi, excellent coffee, and MAzing soup I could not have asked for anything better. Delicious coffee, as it should be, since they roast their own beans. They also seem to roast their own turkeys for the turkey sandwiches they sell here. My brother-in-law was very impressed by the taste and the moistness of the turkey in his sandwich. It looked damn delicious. I had the ... brie sandwich, I think. Whatever it was, it was also delicious. For those who like to sit outside and eat (like me), they have a nice little patio area that's perfect for parents with strollers. Was here on the thanksgiving weekend. Basic coffee is 'meh. g/f ordered a mocha latte, and there were CHUNKS in it. Tried again the next day, same thing. This place is TINY. Don't expect to sit down for a coffee and get any work done if you're looking to get on-line. 2.5Mb/s Down, 0.5Mb/s up (30ms ping). If you don't know what that is, think ADSL from ~5 years ago. When I was there, the place was INFESTED with loud, entitled, baby boomers who have zero manners, and a mess of small feral children running around knocking into everything. read more
