Basted Baker Hash
Frances L.

Delicious breakfast with friendly service! Loved the casual relaxed atmosphere too. This cafe offers beautifully baked treats and dishes with generously sized portions. I absolutely loved my Basted Baker Hash. It's like a warm breakfast salad with roasted peppers, mushrooms, pickled purple cabbage, crispy basted potatoes and a poached egg all on a bed of fresh spinach. It was both delicious and beautiful! We also enjoyed an apple pie and a slice of carrot cake to go. I highly recommend this cafe!!

Great little place to stop off for a quick bite if you're in Sechelt. Their biscuit was my favorite part of this breakfast. It was nice and thin but packed in a lot of flavor and the edges were nice and crispy while the middle was perfectly soft for my liking. The restaurant is a little small but they do have patio seating in the front and covered tables outside at the back of their restaurant.

Their biscuits are perfect. Crunchy edges. Soft in the center. Perfectly poached eggs. Friendly service with a smile. Order then seat yourself. They'll bring your order to you. Small patio in the front and in the back. Very cute little place. You should definitely try it.

Everything food wise is tasty, service is very kind, you can sit in or outside too. If you get there early enough you get the food where as in showing up you lose out on the great morning muffins. Sitting inside the sun shines though the window and being there early is relaxing.

Salmon benny on biscuits. Love the biscuits! Potato was okay

We came here for bennies at brunch time and it was awesome. Generous portions, great flavours, and that butter biscuit was so so good! Staff is friendly and there a nice patio at the back. I would eat here again next time I visit Sunshine Coast.

This place makes everything themselves, when a eggs benny comes with house made biscuits you know it's got something good going. I was completely stuffed after their pulled pork benny. Seriously their portions are near American sizing. Either that or I'm used to shrunk sizes- coming from Vancouver. Anyway items are well laid out on the cute wall menus. The pulled pork was intelligently seasoned -not doused with some pre-made bbq sauce like many places. I arrived as the first customer as I sensed it would get busy quick on a nice summer day especially with limited seating in this cozy venue. Returned a few other times just to grab pastry for mid day snacks and they were all well prepared and fresh. Will be back again.

Pulled pork sandwich on a biscuit. Huge.

Wow, food was incredibly good and portions were massive. The two women running the show were really kind and friendly. Because of the plexiglass (Covid measure) and my lack of listening I kissed my Americano order. When I went up to ask where it was, they explained kindly that I missed the announcement, but not a problem, they'll make a new one. So nice. Food was great. Ordered two pulled pork sandwiches, hash browns, bacon and a buttery bun (there are four of us). This was way too much food and we ended up taking half of it home. The bowls on other's plates were as pictured in others reviews, and looked very good.

Smoke salmon Benny (full order) and half order of huevos rancheros.

We popped in early on a Saturday and fortunately we were able to get indoor seating for two! You order at the counter, get your seat and wait for your number to be called. We ordered the salmon Benny, heuvos rancheros, two empanadas to go (for a snack later in the day!) and coffee. The ladies working the front were super friendly and nice. Not sure about prior reviews stating otherwise! As everyone else mentions, the portions are very healthy. Between my husband and I we did a full order Benny and half order huevos. The huevos were awesome- a big portion of guac over beans, some pickles cabbage topped with an egg and salsa. Super flavorful. The Benny was also loaded with smoke salmon, spinach and tomato. I took a star off as the potatoes were a bit dry. We asked for our eggs to be soft but rather they were hard and overcooked.

Cute cafe in town. Self service place but lots of room to sit and stay for food! We went on a Sunday but it wasn't very busy at all surprisingly. They have a ton of amazing looking baked goods... we tried the berry scone which was topped with white chocolate-so good! Make sure you ask them to warm it up. The eggs benny was good but not out of this park amazing. if there are two of you, getting a full order is enough to split). It comes on a fresh baked biscuit which looks better than it tasted. The biscuit could use some oomph to it, maybe spices or herbs? However it is very filling, though also very heavy. I would prefer an English muffin but if you're hungry you definitely wont leave like that. The patio is a great spot to people watch and gets lots of sun! I don't know if i would get the eggs benny again but I would go back to try more baking!

OG Breakfast Biscuit and Sausage and Tomato Eggs Bennie.

We visited BB pre-covid and it was excellent. We were not disappointed this time either. My daughter had the OG Breakfast Sandwich and an Iced Latte, and I had a half order of the Sausage and Tomato Eggs Bennie and a Latte. It was all excellent again and we will certainly be back the next time we come through Sechelt. Also picked up some pastries to go. A little pricey however they are huge so you definitely get your money's worth. I would highly recommend Basted Baker to anyone.

I really, really want to love this place. There were so many rave reviews about their brunch but it just ended up so very average. There are quite a few great things about the place. The space is reasonably sized and beautiful with two patios (one in the back and one in the front). Though we went on a Holiday Monday, there was still enough space despite the rush from the mainland. There was a sample of a peanut butter cookie at the front, which was a nice touch (though not labelled for the peanut allergy people). Also, their coffee beans are from Timbertrain and they roast them well and create great lattes out of them. Then comes the not-as-great aspects of my experience. The service is counter service and then you find a seat, which is perfectly fine. The service was prompt - definitely not warm by any standards but that's okay. Then we had to wait 30 minutes for our breakfast to be ready, which I ordered the Avocado and Tomato Benny (full size) which came with a side of potatoes. Their biscuit is quite good. Though Benny on a Biscuit is definitely heavier than your typical English Muffin affair - so I would have been satisfied with a half size offering. My biggest gripe about the place is that their Hollandaise Sauce is not housemade and it taste very much like mayonnaise. It was also quite drenched in it that really did ruin the Benny Experience. Overall, it was not terrible of an experience. I did enjoy their coffee. But for their breakfast, it definitely is not worth the 30+ minute wait for a very meh Benny. If I return, I will not try another Benny until they sort out their Hollandaise situation.

Welcoming interior. Lines move briskly.

Arrived on the Coast at night and could hardly wait for morning. We had seen the Basted Baker goods on a friend's Instagram feed and wondered if it was worth the hype. OH MY WORD. 6 Stars. Seriously. It's a small establishment located on the main drag. Lot's of street parking available during the week and limited parking on Saturday (in summer) when the Farmer's Market is running. But, Saturday is when there are Eggs Benny Biscuits till 3PM, so it's well worth walking a bit. We ate here the first day and fell head over heels. We were heading to a different restaurant the 2nd morning and turned the car around reasoning that 'it would be a waste of time and money to try other places when we had been dreaming about the previous day's meal'. Went several times. Sat outside in front, inside and hope to try the back patio next time. The inside has a casual atmosphere and the server's are efficient and friendly. I would take a ferry just to have those breakfast sandwiches again. Can't wait to try the sausage and cinnamon rolls. Gluten free biscuits available.

The food was a mixed bag, some dishes great, some not so much. The general consensus was the beer wasn't great. But I did enjoy my cocktail! The DJ/emcee for music trivia bingo was a lot of fun. You got to choose your Bingo card. He played songs spanning the decades, but you're also allowed to Shazam. He also walked around, looked at our sheets, and pointed out any songs we may have forgotten to stamp. People from our table one 3 out of 5 prizes given that night! THE DRINKS * Passion fruit fizz - 4.5 stars Lovely thick layer of egg white that gave the drink texture, sharp citrus flavor. Also, props to the staff as my partner ordered the wrong drink for me at first - they let me swap out that wrong order for this drink! * Coast Sour - 3 stars This drink was not for me - too strong, flavors not subtle at all. The beers generally weren't great; a lot of them lacked body and complexity. The best one was the IPA, the worst was the cream ale. THE FOOD * Bayou Bite - 4.5 stars The bun & slaw were good, and we liked the bbq sauce. The breading had a great crunch but we had 2 thinner slices which leads to less juicy chicken and too much breading. * Beer Battered Cod Batch Soft Tacos - 4 stars The fish tasted very fresh, with a nice balanced thin layer of breading and lots of toppings that worked well. Don't let it sit too long or it could get pretty soggy. * Nachos - 1-2 stars I didn't try this or get a photo, but my friend said this was pretty bad.

Walked in as tourists passing through, hungry for brunch and tired of fast food restaurants…read more Parking was tight in the area. We were allowed to sit wherever we wanted. Our server was a family member of the family owned business and boy was she really nice. She filled our travelling water bottles with ice and fresh water for the road trip to Earls Cove, then helped us through ordering a build your own breakfasts kind of deal as we wanted eclectic items. The overeasy eggs - while normally pretty basic by short order standards - were actually done perfectly. No greasy fried bits showing just perfect circular eggwhites and yolks. The sourdough toast was simple but tasted thick and "meaty" with just the right amount of butter. Yes, sounds silly to nail down superlative descriptions for basic toast, but hey, it seemed like everything had that home cooked vibe about it where food is made with care and concern. The pancakes were beyond basic as one member of my family who loves flapjacks noted the fluffy texture and classic taste perfection. The indecisive one of us finally asked for a burger and mashed potatoes at 10:30am. No problem was the reply. Our daughter dug in immediately at its serving and again, all smiles and dripping juices. Coffee was totally adequate, refills consistent, and the tea was hot. Price was so very fair other than we tipped too high perhaps being so tickled pink having expected more of a greasy spoon experience. And that it was not.
