Welp- i visited in a month without an "r" and hence oysters are not the most ideal...apparently. And my kids are the meat and potatoes type crew. Coming from Texas i was alittle skeptical, but that quickly faded with the hometown hospitality of the smoke on the water staff. The big friendly guy took our order- amused my kiddos- and we were ordering lots of bbq on a pier. Ordered- BBQ beef sandwich- delicious sauce with a little bite Meat was requested for the leaner cuts and was fulfilled. No blobs of fat, and just lean tender meat. Poutine with pulled pork/bbq beef /bacon - fries were crispy, hot , and potatoe filled - meat was on point - cheese curds were curding/ melting and stringy Both id say were 5/5! So moral of this review is that you dont need to question why you are ordering bbq on a pier, near so much water, on an island only accessible by a ferry. This place reps well, and has mucho bbq aura. The seating is alittle limited, just patio high stools and counter tops. You view the marina and could see some whales or seals pop up

We ordered the brisket platters, and while the portion sizes were generous, the brisket was on the fattier side and could've used a bit more seasoning overall. The mac and cheese had great flavor and that classic comfort-food vibe, though it was a little dense. The corn flan was just okay...nice idea, but it didn't totally come together for me. We also got the chicken wings, and I have to say, we were impressed! They were actual full wing pieces, not tiny or over-fried, which was a nice surprise. There's limited seating, so it's definitely more of a grab-and-go or casual quick-bite spot. All in all, solid BBQ with potential, but I'd love to see a bit more seasoning and balance in the dishes.

Coffee everywhere on the west coast is over-roasted and tastes like turpentine. Wheatberries is the last place I know that sells a coffee that tastes good black. The fifth star is not Gino, the owner's, fault. The better coffees are getting more expensi and with the Trump tariffs probably will reach the stratosphere.

Today, I decided to give it another try, just for the sake of nostalgia. I wouldn't make that mistake again. The staff were rude, they didn't thank me for coming in, they had to be asked to bring my hot chocolate to the table, my sandwich was not cut in half. The ham sandwich was lukewarm. The staff never inquired to how my food was. I spent over $45.00 on one ham sandwich, four cookies, two brownies and one very watery hot chocolate. Their prices are outrageous! The food was terrible, the hot chocolate was very watered down and the staff was rude. The only music was nonstop, "Beach Boys". The food selection was small. I wouldn't make the mistake of ever eating there again.

Wheatberries Bakery - Very small selection, especially compared to previous years in the past. Cookies tasted stale.

We got the Key Lime Tart which was too heavy on the cream cheese with not enough citrus flavour making it taste more like a cheesecake than a tart. The almond apple tart had a lot of frangipane and a good tart crust but the apple part was missing. The carrot cake slice didnt have enough tang in the cream cheese frosting and the flavours of the cake fell flat. Their other baked goods were a bit better with the berry muffin being not too oily or sweet but a bit dry, the texture of the jalapeño and cheddar scone was fluffy and light but I could hardly taste any cheese. The veggie puff was the favourite being flavourful and light. We also grabbed a bag of their white chocolate chip macadamia nut cookies (gf) and molasses cookies because they were day olds and half off and these were some of the better treats we tried from here. Overall, we had high expectations and were unfortunately let down by the treats at Sandy's.
