We bought a few things from this little bakery and unfortunately, most of the items were a bit disappointing either because they weren't what we expected or were sweeter than we liked. We got the Key Lime Tart which was too heavy on the cream cheese with not enough citrus flavour making it taste more like a cheesecake than a tart. The almond apple tart had a lot of frangipane and a good tart crust but the apple part was missing. The carrot cake slice didnt have enough tang in the cream cheese frosting and the flavours of the cake fell flat. Their other baked goods were a bit better with the berry muffin being not too oily or sweet but a bit dry, the texture of the jalapeño and cheddar scone was fluffy and light but I could hardly taste any cheese. The veggie puff was the favourite being flavourful and light. We also grabbed a bag of their white chocolate chip macadamia nut cookies (gf) and molasses cookies because they were day olds and half off and these were some of the better treats we tried from here. Overall, we had high expectations and were unfortunately let down by the treats at Sandy's. read more

If you're walking through Lower Gibsons, you have to stop by Sandy's Bake Shoppe. It's a staple -- everything's homemade, always fresh, and totally hits the spot. We grabbed the feta spinach croissant and a gooey cinnamon bun. It was the best treat to share as we explored the village. read more

Every year in April we went to the sunshine coast and we have some favorite shops and bakeries. this year we said let's try some new bakeries, Not recommended at all, we had a very bad experience. The cookies and tart were horrible Not sure it was the owner or a salesperson (old lady) who was soooo rude and impolite. My friend went inside with their 6 old baby girl she shout at her to wait outside. They both wear masks even is not mandatory these days and there weren't any other customers inside. read more

Cute little shop. Lots of baked goodies from pastries to pies to cookies. I was still full from lunch and much as I would want to order the pie or croissants etc, I just could not. I decided to get the Lia Cup which was a tiny morsel of custard sweet. It was the right size for an after meal dessert. You could just eat it in one bite. It was really nice. Not too sweet. I also bought the ginger and chocolate peanut butter cookies. They were also very good, especially with coffee. The staff could be friendlier or more helpful though. read more

The best baked goods you'll ever have. Lemon and raspberry scone was a well balanced explosion of flavour. The jalapeño and cheese was so savoury yet well spiced. Came back the next day and grabbed their ham and cheese croissant and blueberry dream. The croissant was light airy and flaky. The cheese and ham combination was delicious. The best croissant I've ever had. The blueberry dream muffin was really good too. Best thing about this bakery is that everything isn't overly sweet. Pro tip: get an oat milk latte from beachcomber coffee and grab a lemon raspberry scone from here and walk around the landing. read more

Tried their almond tart and bread pudding and both were stone cold. Granted it's almost the end of the day so I'll cut them some slack. But what bothered us more is their service 'cos it's even colder than their pastries! Halfway while we're paying the lady started singing (to herself) in quite an unwelcoming tone. Heard Gibsons' quite an insular community and this place definitely confirms that belief. read more

A bit of an update to an earlier note I posted: still very good, in my opinion, still a surprisingly wide choice and variety of baked goods. I disagree with one review that pretty much panned the baked goods. Not sure what their experience (other than Sandy's) has been, but I think Sandy's can hold its own with any other bakery I've encountered. And one small cavil (small? They gave one star!) had to do with the Pandemic/Covid sign restricting to 1 person at a time. I didn't think the sign was obscured or anything other than obvious. The "open" sandwich sign is clearly visible for 200' and the "1 at a time" sign is unmistakable. All in all, I think they're doing a very good job in the pandemic - obviously very difficult times for us all, but especially for small businesses like Sandy's. read more

A very nice little shop owned by a lovely Brit with an obvious talent for baking. We ordered a variety of wonderfully fresh goodies. But then we had to leave quickly, because if any more than three people are in the shop, it's shoulder-to-shoulder. It is truly a great little bakery with an outstanding variety of pastries. I don't like their quiche, too bland, but the chicken pot pie is very flavorful n great for take-home meal, sized small n large, I think. Sandy's is a little (and I mean LITTLE!) gem and a very welcome addition to Lower Gibsons. I have no idea how they manage to squeeze both production elements AND an amazing variety of baked goods. From basics (breads and buns) through muffins, to fancy-schmancy treats (the famous Nanaimo bars, squares, tarts...too many temptations to list). I find it very hard to drive by without stopping and picking up something, often a dessert treat. And my wife a) chides me briefly and then b) dives in. My only request: that they find a slightly larger facility, put a few tables in, and offer in-house coffee, treats, maybe sandwiches. Then they'd never get rid of me. read more

Just go to the grocery store bakery. After a disappointing experience at a local coffee shop down the road, we hoped to improve the morning with some baked goods. We got a sampling - croissant, muffin and apple turnover. The apple turnover was probably the best, though my husband was disappointed it had raisins inside. Overall it felt like grocery store quality, and nothing like an artisan bakery experience. Nothing tasted fresh, or warm. No unique, delicious flavors. We wished we'd saved our money and not stopped in. If you don't care much about flavor and just need some filling carbs, the place is fine. read more

I ordered a birthday cake for a family party that needed to meet some allergy restrictions. Sandy and Adam were incredibly helpful, flexible and baked a cake that was an absolute hit! I've tried to get allergen free cakes from numerous bakeries on the coast with no luck, so Sandy's Bake Shoppe was the find of the year for me! Great service, friendly people, amazing treats... Tried this little shop for the first time today, I'm a sucker for little bakeries. Brought home their peach & almond flan and it was delicious! The crust and filling were just right, the marzipan was moist and the peach topping was lightly sweet. I particularly loved the toasty almond trim, mmm! I'll definitely stop in for a treat next time I'm in Gibsons. read more

The baked goods here are absolutely amazing, but I have some feedback. For starters, they do have a sign saying that they are only allowing one person in the shop at a time. Which is fine but the sign is barley visible because it is at your feet, and the two older women get very rude and upset if you don't see it. I would recommend putting a sign where people can actually read it. Second of all, there are little to no covid 19 safely protocols in place. There are no plexiglass glass shields what's so ever, and on top of that the workers aren't wearing masks. If you want safely I would NOT RECOMMEND. And of course, the lack of environmental sustainability. They still offer plastic bags and cutlery. It's 2020 and people are still ignorant, get paper bags and bamboo forks, it's embarrassing to our town. Overall great food, terrible everything else. I hope they read this and take it into consideration. read more

The sweetest family bakery you've ever been to I will assure you. GLUTEN FREE options!!!!!The muffins were un freaking believable. Sandy the baker and her family were witty, funny and I want to be adopted at this point. Before u new it i bought anything and everythong gluten free and had a coffee and wow. The baking I assure you from the pickiest man youve ever met....moi....is the best I've ever had as a celiac......seriously spectacular...they put love in the food. Thats why its good. read more
