They have a variety of Handcrafted pastries that melt in your mouth, Freshly baked bread you'll want to take home, and Coffee that feels like a warm hug. Whether you're craving a quick treat or looking for a spot to relax, this place is a total vibe! We got the cinnamon bun, strawberry and blueberry cheese danish, and almond croissant. Everything was truly delicious but the blueberry cheese danish stole the show. It was the best cheese danish I've ever had! Heads up, they only accept cash and debit. They also have limited seating available and tend to sell out fast. We went at 9:30am on a Saturday and of their items were gone and by the time we left at ~10:30 they were almost halfway sold out. Excellent bread, rolls, danish, scones, etc. Multiple types of bread all from quality flour. You will not be disappointed!

Enjoyed the flavour of the cinnamon bun, but the texture wasn't that of a fresh baked bun. More like a bread roll. Didn't get to ask about ingredients, however something unique in the gooey caramel topping made up for the day old texture. Also bought some rye bread, so review on it pending. Will likely try some other products, but it will be after a chit chat with the sellar on the process and the age of the baked goods. read more

A few of my favorite things to do in Nanaimo, other than the free clams and oysters I get to dig up and the rather exhilarating gooey duck hunting, is gorging up baked goods at Bodhi Bakery. Their breads are one of the many reasons I drool at night. The cost? Be prepared to wake up early to pick up your breads, especially during the weekends. My recommendations: the raisin bread and the cheese bread. (Depending on availability) Yes....the scones, cinnamon buns and practically everything else they make is ridiculously good too, so bring your credit card and be prepared to rack up the bill. If you have guests over for breakfast, these guys will make you look good, so paying the extra money is worth it. Bodhi, for this great review, could you open a bakery in Vancouver, B.C for me? Great bread and baked goods! Located in a residential part of Nanaimo on the way up island from the ferries.

We love this amazing bakery. We live in Ontario but have been out a lot lately to visit and help my mom who is not well. This bakery has become our go to Nanaimo spot when visiting and and a bright spot during some very hard days. Their sourdough bread is incredible, as is everything we have tried. I'm a sourdough baker too, so can really appreciate the time and care that goes into this bread. My sons always love the pastries as well. The croissants are from heaven, crispy and flaky. There's not much seating, but we'll happily stand and eat here! read more

I love this place. They also have a little car that has baked goods at the Qualicum market on Saturdays. There shop in Nanaimo is great, all wooden and hipster haha. Real island feel. There cinnamon buns are to die for, oozing caramel goodness and insanely large, you HAVE to have one. All their breads and stuff like any artisan bakery are wonderful. We are moving to North Nanaimo from Vancouver in a couple of months and are always on the lookout for great restaurants and bakeries. We thought we would have withdrawal symptoms from missing out on our favourites in Vancouver, Batard and Thomas Haas. Now that we have discovered Bodhi, which is only a few blocks from our new home, we won't miss Batard and TH nearly as much. We tried a scone and a plum pastry at Bodhi, both were excellent. We also bought two loaves of bread, excellent as well. This will be our new hangout when we want to unwind. read more

I've been there twice now - never again. The baking is fine but, okay the first time I went there was obvious signs of mouse - as in droppings on the window ledge. Commercial spots get that sort of thing but this was kinda bad. Anyway I went back with a GF and she asked to talk with the manager about wedding cakes. I watched, stunned, as the manager was clearly annoyed to be taken from whatever. My friend was asking basic things like prices and so on and the manager actually heaved a huge sigh and in a prickly way said that it depends on what you want. It went downhill from there. Good bread, average service, good coffee, mouse dirt, rude owner/manager. not good enough to recommend or go back to. read more

Based on the loaf I bought at the Qualicum Beach Farmer's Market this is faux artisan bread. Not naturally fermented, nor does the flour have any flavour resemblance to freshly milled organic grains, both a basic requirment of artisan bread. I bought a Kalamta Olive loaf and if it had 10% of olives in it I'd be very surprised. It was just a very blah and ordinary loaf of bread not only in flavour but appearance. If someone wants this type of bread then buy the crap they sell in supermarkets and save yourself a trip when shopping. read more

I'm thrilled to recommend this bakery. I love the bran muffins. I've been stopping in once a week for a few months and keep finding new and tasty treats and breads to buy. I've grown to really like the proprietor (hardworking and gentle) too. I'm finding the people of Nanaimo are really nice (I was a little worried when I first moved there). The product at this bakery are five star indeed. Wonderful, fresh and a great selection. I have to say though that the two young women who sell I'm the Qualicum Beach Saturday market are extremely unhelpful, unfriendly and frankly rude. Two visits have confirmed this. I needed to ask a question and was told that all was listed on the sign, which I had of course consulted. The one who took my money said not a word except how much. I doubt I will be joining the long lines again. read more

Used to love this little bakery but recently it's going downhill, sold out of most baked goods early in am , so limited treats to have with your coffee.. it's a bakery so you would think they would be prepared. nice new patio area upgrade by landlord, however the outside entrance could use some TLC, no one seems to care. Planters are dead & boardwalk could use a broom! Garbage around outside could be addressed. First impressions are everything! More patio furniture would be nice. Girls behind the counter are sometimes not so nice , we were told we could go someplace else once ! They don't seem to care about their customers at all, gal could walk to the door to tell me my coffee was ready , but couldn't take a few extra steps to bring it outside! This place could take a customer service course! They don't clean tables or take care of the details. I keep trying to go back thinking they are just busy or having a bad day but it seems like that is the status quo. Kind of sad really as its a cute place in a great location. read more

I was born and raised in the Santa Clara Valley (before it was paved and buried in smog), where San Francisco Sourdough is King. I love sourdough, and have devoted 20 years or more to baking the stuff. There are two places that bake awesome sourdoughs in Nanaimo, and, in my opinion, Bodhi's is absolutely #1. I like picking up a different loaf every time I visit, having it sliced and then sitting down with a cup of freshly pressed coffee and enjoying the bread on the spot. Chef Clay also produces terrific pastries and sinfully good chocolate deserts. Go! Grab some fresh sourdough and enjoy the best Nanaimo has to offer. read more
