It's basically a soup and sandwich place. You order at the counter and they bring it to you. Not tons of choice but I think it's fair to say what they do, they do well. Our table of four all enjoyed our lunches. I found it a little pricey for basically a self serve place. They have a nice patio out front and it's quite nice inside too. read more

It was my first time visiting Chemainus since moving to the island. I was meeting someone for lunch and we went to this cute cafe/restaurant located in "downtown" Chemainus. It is a cosy spot that was bustling and nearly full, but things seemed calm and very welcoming still. The menu was rustic and homey, with soups, sandwiches, quiche, salads, etc. The whole place smelled delicious. We ordered at the counter and then found a table. Our food arrived promptly. Less than 5 minutes. I ordered a shrimp caesar wrap with pasta salad. (the alternate side choices were soup or green salad) The portion was very generous with loads of shrimp. The pasta salad was a good sized mound and very tasty. It was fresh, creamy, and had veggies mixed in. Very good and filling. Reasonable prices too. As a beverage I had a handmade Italian soda. Delicious and refreshing. Good alternative to generic fountain pop that most restaurants offer. I will definitely be back when I find myself up there again. Great cafe with good outdoor seating in the small town of Chemainus. They have a nice selection of wraps, soups, quiches, salads, and drinks. I ordered a quiche, which was quite flavourful and salty. My side salad was plentiful and well dressed. My mother ordered a gluten free Cajun chicken wrap and chicken vegetable soup. Both had generous portions of chicken. The service was very friendly and perhaps erred on the side of being overly attentive, but that's small town culture for ya. Overall a nice dining experience in a quirky lil town. read more

The Willow Street Cafe is located in a beautiful old building in the heart of Chemainus. It has spacious seating inside, and during the warmer months, one of Chemainus's only outdoor eating patio. The also have interesting artwork for sale on the wall (which we've purchased). The food is healthy and well prepared. Chemainus is a cute little town on Vancouver Island. They are known for their murals throughout the town depicting important moments in the history of the town. The main street of the town is a quaint "colonial" style town. It once was a thriving old mill town and today they are a tourist destination. One of the largest buildings in the town and oldest looking is the home of Willow Street Cafe. This is a thriving spot! It has a great deck off the front with loads of tables and inside there is tons of space to sit and relax. If this were still an active mill town the Willow Street Cafe would be the central meeting spot. They do not have full table side service. Instead you go to the counter order your meal, they give you a number and you take your table where they will deliver it to you. I love tuna fish sandwiches and have had many in my life. I know a good one from a bad one and this was a GREAT one! The tuna was perfectly seasoned with not to much mayonnaise and contained bits of fresh celery the way I love it. This was served on a multi grain bread that was so fresh and fluffy it almost took away from the tuna. There was also a nice amount of sprouts rather than lettuce to round it out. With sandwiches you get a choice of sides. I decided upon the soup which was a curry lentil soup and yummy! The other options were a green salad or pasta salad. I just stopped in here briefly for a coffee, but what a beautiful spot in a dreamy beautiful area! I loved the sun pouring over the wood, the wide comfortable rooms with their big chairs, and all the local art and history on the walls. I found myself in Chemainus on a chilly wet November afternoon looking for a nice lunch. Willow Street Café was super. I ordered their special which was a big bowl of clam chowder and a home made cheese scone. Together with a refillable cup of French roast coffee I enjoyed my lunch while the rain passed by. Unfortunately they do not have free wifi but I was able to find another wifi service. The restaurant had a great flow of customers of all ages. Some patrons enjoyed wine or beer amidst a very warm bistro atmosphere. Staff were very pleasant and polite and it appeared they worked very well together in delivering service. If I were in Chemainus again, or driving buy looking for lunch, I would definitely return and give them my business again. Lots of options. Not terrible, but not a wow. Probably good to identify warm or cold in the wraps. Roast beef wrap was warm and cold and mustard kind of slipped out the side. The split pea and ham soup was heart split pea but really sparse and oddly chopped ham bits. The pizzas are cheddar muenster feta combos. Again not bad but no real pop and very heavy. Very nice people and pleasant atmosphere including a summer patio. read more

This has been our lunch stop when visiting Chemainus the past few years. Today was cold and snowy, so we knew this was the place for hot soup. They have always had good soups. For $11.95 you can choose a sandwich or wrap, with choice of three soups or salads. We picked the Tomato-Parmesan soup and it was delicious, especially the Parmesan finish. I could have eaten two bowls . . . The bacon made the Club Wrap good, but it was not the best wrap I've had because of the use of iceberg lettuce and not-so-fresh tomato. Ron's Greek Wrap was more substantial in size, chicken and flavour (pronounced garlic). The scones are big and look good, so that may be a good choice next time around to go with the soup. Order/pay at the front counter, and service is to your table. Friendly folks and last year the chef came around to the tables and asked diners how they were enjoying their lunches. read more

This was an excellent choice for lunch on a work day, though it did get quite busy shortly after I arrived. The food is made fresh, the portions are fantastic, and from what I saw the pastries were gigantic and looked delicious. I expected the food to take longer since there was a sign asking for customers' patience because fresh food takes time, but I found the food to arrive rather quickly. I ordered the grilled chicken & swiss sandwich (which was put under a panini press). It was tasty, though the large chunks of chicken kept falling out of the sandwich. Some even bounced off my plate onto my lap, but thankfully didn't mess up my work clothes too badly, oops! You get a choice of sides (salad, soup, pasta salad). Delicious same day baked scones, a good variety of fruity Italian sodas. Service is friendly and food's always fresh and prepared relatively fast. The atmosphere is very inclusive and clean. Dark roast is quite acidic and light, strong flavour and smooth, not sure if 'frog friendly'. Would recommend if you need an evening to relax and sit back. Mid-low price range. Chemainus is the Town of Murals & it's great to wander the upper and lower townsites, to view them all...very interesting, & if you do it on a Wednesday, you can catch their market in the park, too. The couple who took over the Willow Street Cafe offer fresh baked goodies for coffee/tea time, plus super soups, wraps, sandwiches for lunch, and casual dinners, too. On summer days, expansive decking to enjoy that al fresco pleasure. Great specialty coffees for the cappucino & latte fans. We have stopped in this cafe both times visiting chemainus. It is now a cafe we plan to stop in at when visiting regularly. Cute quaint building that used to be an old bank. Local artwork on the walls. It was very busy today with it being the summer but we were able to get through the line quickly with the owner working on the till. He was very friendly and helpful. We ordered the tomato Parmesan soup with cheese scone. It was delicious. Only downside is that it cost $10.50 but is comparable to other cafes in Chemainus. Also had a coffee (which you can refill) and a chai tea latte. Both we thought were very good. Overall if you are looking for a place to eat in Chemainus this is one to check out. read more

Favorites: Ham sandwich, & Curry Chicken quesadilla, I know the ham sandwich sounds pretty plain to have as a favorite, but the fresh bread, excellent ingredients & massive size...wow by far the best I have had. I always go to the owls nest after my church on Sundays but decided to switch things up and go here, which I wish I wouldn't have. I ordered the ham and Swiss panini it came out burnt and was so dry I had to ask for ketchup to dip it in, salad it came with was starting to go bad, (brown lettuce) that came straight out of the bag, nothing looked fresh, they serve the dressing in plastic containers that go straight into land fill(it's 2018 learn how to buy re usable containers). Food all looks like it come pre prepared and they do not make any of it 'home made'. Also it's very pricey. Two of us paninis and salad with just water came to 35$$. Way to much for the quality of food we got. It was hard to find a table that didn't have dirty dishes on them and After 30 minutes of being there (only two other customers coming in to order in the mean time) the dirty dishes were still sitting there as staff chatted amongst them selves. Talking to other locals they all say this place has gone WAAAAAY down hill since new owner shit has taken over. read more

I am wrighting this rewiew because I quite enjoyed myself here. We went for lunch/ a snack. We were only two people on a Sunday afternoon with a fair group of other costumers in the restaurant. The only reason I am not giving this restaurant 5 stars is because the service wasn't as good as they "qualified" it to be in there brochure that they had on their tables.
