Shrimp Caesar Wrap - delicious, fresh, and stuffed with shrimp
    Monica A.

It was my first time visiting Chemainus since moving to the island. I was meeting someone for lunch and we went to this cute cafe/restaurant located in "downtown" Chemainus. It is a cosy spot that was bustling and nearly full, but things seemed calm and very welcoming still. The menu was rustic and homey, with soups, sandwiches, quiche, salads, etc. The whole place smelled delicious. We ordered at the counter and then found a table. Our food arrived promptly. Less than 5 minutes. I ordered a shrimp caesar wrap with pasta salad. (the alternate side choices were soup or green salad) The portion was very generous with loads of shrimp. The pasta salad was a good sized mound and very tasty. It was fresh, creamy, and had veggies mixed in. Very good and filling. Reasonable prices too. As a beverage I had a handmade Italian soda. Delicious and refreshing. Good alternative to generic fountain pop that most restaurants offer. I will definitely be back when I find myself up there again. The quiche my dining companion had looked amazing - will be trying that next time!

Great cafe with good outdoor seating in the small town of Chemainus. They have a nice selection of wraps, soups, quiches, salads, and drinks. I ordered a quiche, which was quite flavourful and salty. My side salad was plentiful and well dressed. My mother ordered a gluten free Cajun chicken wrap and chicken vegetable soup. Both had generous portions of chicken. The service was very friendly and perhaps erred on the side of being overly attentive, but that's small town culture for ya. Overall a nice dining experience in a quirky lil town.

I just stopped in here briefly for a coffee, but what a beautiful spot in a dreamy beautiful area! I loved the sun pouring over the wood, the wide comfortable rooms with their big chairs, and all the local art and history on the walls. I also loved the view of the mural through the window, and the very friendly staff.

    Fruit & veg, cheese quesadilla.

Delicious, fresh food. Friendly atmosphere with great staff! The chicken and Swiss panini is delicious. As well, all of their baked goods are amazing!

There is a QR code if you want to peruse the menu while waiting. We ordered two sandwiches and two soup & sandwiches. Unfortunately, one of the orders was incorrect but they were quick to remake the sandwich. All the food was great. We also grabbed. GF chocolate mint matcha treat that was awesome. You order and pay first, then find a seat inside or outside. Ample seating options. For drinks, they'll call your name and you pick it up at the counter, while they will bring you your entrée. We came for breakfast, so I had a croissant BLT Harvati sandwich and a latte. My friend had a vegan wrap and a latte as well. The whole indoor feels like a greenhouse once before and transformed to indoor cafe. There are tons of metal welding artwork around and many little retail shopping corners inside. My croissant did not let me know, it was so delicious! They also have a small coffee/ice cream/grab-n-go trailer outside. Overall it's a nice place for breakfast or lunch! We tried coming back again, but the power went out so we weren't able to order anything AND have cash. Guess I'll have to come back to visit!

I've never had one so amazingly light, soft and perfectly just-sweet-enough. Wonder if they will ship them...? We stopped by Leaven for breakfast one morning on our trip getting a savory crêpe each and a couple pastries. Didn't even make it though breakfast before we knew we had to do a repeat the very next day because it was so good. Crepes are French style and are clearly made with skill and talent. The space is bright and cheery with very friendly staff. I see other reviews mentioning waits during busy times or complaints but experienced nothing of the sort. We were a bit off peak and didn't have that issue but I can honestly say I'd be HAPPY to wait for the food at Leaven. This is really something special and whoever is behind it has a gift.

Service was 5/5 very friendly. Bus your own table type of place. Drip coffee was standard. Does get a long line that fluctuates with ferry arrival times. We had about 5 people ahead of us and waited about 10 minutes to order. Brioche looked good and seemed to be popular; not really a brioche person so didn't get it.
