This cafe is a great stop as you get off the ferry. I had no issue finding parking nearby. You do have to go down some stairs and around the building, but I found it easily enough. There are some public restrooms nearby if you walk down the pier a bit. The cafe shares a location with what appears to be a whale excursion/souvenir shop. It's clean and has plenty of seating. I got one of their specials, smoked salted maple. The espresso is smooth and the drink doesn't seem to be all ice. I will say I couldn't taste the maple, like at all. All I tasted was salt. I didn't end up finishing it due to this, but I'd be willing to give it another try if I find myself back on the island. read more

I grabbed breakfast at Riptide Cafe while visiting the San Juan Islands and really enjoyed it. I had the avocado toast, berry blast smoothie bowl, and a latte. Everything was fresh and delicious. The smoothie bowl was especially good, packed with berries and a nice crunch from the granola. It is a little on the pricier side, but that's kind of expected given the location right by the pier. Overall, a solid spot if you're looking for a good coffee and something healthy to eat while taking in the view. read more

If I could be anywhere right now, I'd choose to be sitting at Riptide's coffee counter overlooking the Pacific Ocean on San Juan Island. Riptide was one of my favorite stops during my recent trip to Friday Harbor. This cafe shares a storefront with the local souvenir shop and it's just steps away from the ferry dock. Because of its dockside location, it has captivating views of the harbor and ocean. I now find myself day dreaming about working from this coffee shop on a daily basis. Riptide had a selection of holiday cookie lattes that instantly caught my eye. I ordered the Jam Thumbprint, a strawberry and almond latte, since it sounded both unique and delicious. I also grabbed a veggie and egg breakfast bagel sandwich. This fresh Asiago bagel was filled with micro greens, egg, avocado, and a juicy tomato. I couldn't have asked for a better mix. This island feels like magic and I think it's largely due to their local business community. Get out there and support! read more

Run off the ferry directly to this spot with a gorgeous harbor view from the tables outside. Let your pup have a sip of water from the bowls outside and then order the Posey for the most perfect breakfast or lunch sandwich. A charming little home shop on a charming little island. I'm glad I picked Friday Harbor to eat, because this is probably the best food you'll get out here. There's a nice selection of different bagels, and what I thought was a nice selection of desserts, until my choice took one out of the display! I guess, especially in early April, it's a small crowd on the island so they're more going for locals and Washington weekenders than what summer tourism may bring. Anyway, the prices were really not bad for being so remote, the sandwich was piled up big and tastes nice and fresh, the dessert was also really tasty and clearly fresh made. (I asked, and while they don't bake things themselves, they get them fresh from the mainland and prepare to order, so things aren't frozen or mass-produced. It's all high quality stuff.) Friendly place, rather small especially if there's a crowd, so plan on grabbing food (and coffee, I suppose most people get coffee there) and walking, but there are a few seats there. The cafe is also a little library (books and other trinkets for sale and/or display - I didn't look too hard at them but I was just looking all over the room at the variety). Kinda felt like places I've seen in Vermont. I love little town establishments, and when they deliver on quality as well as a wonderful community vibe, that's 5 stars all the way. Friday harbor's only coffee shop on the water is a must visit. It is located inside an adventure outfitters store. Order at the counter and snag a table outside and soak in the most beautiful waterfront atmosphere ever. My latte was perfection and they accommodated all my high maintenance requests ( almond milk, sugar free vanilla). Great breakfast menu too and had gluten free bread for my avocado toast which was a huge plus . Husband loved his peanut butter toast as well. Super reasonably priced ( less than Starbucks). Stopped here to get coffees and while the coffees were drinkable and the inside was cute the customer service was non existent. When it was finally our time to order we walk up to the register and the girl is just staring at us. Didn't even ask what we wanted. Not knowing if she was ready to take our order I said "hi how are you" and she just proceeded to stare at us without saying anything. I ordered a couple of coffees and asked for an extra shot in mine. I noticed that she didn't write it on the cup after we had already paid. I realized that they probably didn't do single shots and only pulled doubles. Would have been nice to know because i would have gotten a quad and I didn't end up drinking my drink since I don't like a double shot in a 16 oz. Basically don't come here if you have any questions or are getting anything outside of the normal bc they can't accommodate and don't have communication skills. Riptide is a nice cafe near the ferry launch. We went in for breakfast. I ordered an iced Chai latte and my partner ordered a coffee, then I also had a breakfast sandwich and then we had a Nutella croissant. My iced latte was good (although like many, a little too much ice). The breakfast sandwich was good also, with cheese, sausage and egg. There was a bit of an issue with the croissant. Instead of Nutella, they gave us a regular croissant. Then it was not quite fully cooked. Perhaps they do not make them. It is convenient if you are near ferry launch. read more

I think this is the best coffee I've had on the island. Smooth and didn't feel too dark. They also have fresh baked croissants and pastries in the mornings. Combine this with the fact that they basically have the best location you could get in Friday Harbor! Inside they have one table and a small bar that looks out on the water. There are a few tables outside. If you had a big group you'd want to go outside but this honestly is the best place for a cozy solo coffee in the morning read more

Riptide is a cute coffee shop on the water with a lot of seats and drink options. If you want to live your best island life sipping a latte while staring out into the ocean and you don't have the money to travel to Hawai'i or Italy (but somehow have the perfect amount to get out to San Juan Island) then this is your place! It's cozy yet spacious, and despite having only two people working at a time, they provide good service and you don't feel like they're stressed out and rushing. In fact, they get drinks out pretty fast and I was surprised I wasn't waiting longer. In my last visit, I tried the Cardamom Honey Latte, and it had the sweetness and herbaceousness that you expect from the drink. I enjoyed it a lot, and it felt realized and thought out well. I'd love to come back and chill here on a future visit to Friday Harbor. read more

Nice little spot on the waterfront. It shares space with San Juan Safaris; if you see that it's just around the corner. Coffee was good and well prepared; I got a breakfast sandwich and it was just the thing for a cool morning. The build-your-own setup was real nice. Despite asking for an ingredient to be omitted, it was added (heavily) making it undrinkable. The coffee is delicious. But the staff needs a lesson in customer service. Pretty appalled with how they treat people. If the staff is going to work at a coffee shop in the heart of the ferry terminal area and Friday Harbor, please don't treat your customers like we don't matter or belong. Ordered a 16 oz iced vanilla latte and asked for 2 percent milk. The cashier (a new employee?) said they had oat, soy, almond, whole and non-fat. I asked to "cut the whole" in which her response was "I guess we could do that" and then proceeded to not write my request on the cup, so the drink was made with whole milk. Is a milk request that difficult? The same cashier proceeded to be brash with another customer who asked for "classic syrup" for her iced coffee; she said "I think that's a Starbucks term." The barista herself was pretty zoned out and didn't seem to love what she was doing. I managed several stores in the coffee industry for 7 years and now I own a well-known real estate office. My advice - being kind to people goes a long way. And if you don't feel comfortable serving others, don't be in customer service. read more
