Amazing -- everything. Best almond croissants anywhere. Better than the ones I had in Paris.

My wife and I stopped into Bakery San Juan for a couple sweets before investigating lighthouses. Bakery is open Mon-Fri from 8am-5pm and closed on Saturday and Sunday. Free parking can be found in the parking lot. Discover is an accepted form of payment. Orders are placed and paid for at the counter. A small outdoor seating area is available as well as indoor seating. Beer and wine can be purchased. Craft coffee drinks can be ordered and enjoyed with ones' pastry order. Bread loaves/rounds can be purchased whole or can be sliced. Some breads are also available in sandwich form (roll/baguette/Rosetta). Menu offers pizza; unfortunately, we were too early for pizza. All pizzas are available as take-and-bakes. Pizza slices are not available until 11am. Sandwiches and salads can also be ordered. My wife and I shared a Cinnamon Roll for $4.75; served warm upon request. We also shared a Cheese Claw for $4; served warm upon request. We ordered a Ham & Cheese Croissant for $5.50 to eat later at our lodging. The minimal interaction with the staff was friendly. Our sweet treats were tasty and reasonably priced. I was happy with everything I ordered here -- key lime pie, sour cream raspberry muffin, oatmeal molasses cookie, and mushroom quiche. The key lime pie had a perfect crust and meringue, and just enough filling. I loved the crumbly top of the muffin and whole berries. The cookie was also stuffed with ingredients in every bite and the quiche was well done! It's too bad this place is only on SJI. They would make a killing in Seattle read more

Visiting San Juan for the day. Early start needed a pick me up. Split a raspberry scone and a pain au chocolat with my wife. Both very good. We both had lattes which hit the spot. Servers were friendly and recommend the quiche which we bought to have breakfast at our hotel the next few mornings. Inside was well maintained and as a beautiful inside and outside seating areas. This morning was a sit inside sort of day being it was 41 degrees when we got here. read more

Incredible stop if you have the time, an empty belly, and craving delicious pastries. The perfect fuel for your next destination. We stopped by thirty minutes before closing and were surprised to have scored a few baked goods before closing. We got a snickerdoodle cookie, a peanut butter cookie, and a berry cheese danish. Cute little bakery! The girls working the front were sweet and quick getting our food. We ordered a Berry Scone, a Cinnamon Roll, a Honey Pecan Roll, a Scone, a Brownie, and 3 small milks. Everything was delicious and soft, no dried out pastries here. The parking was a little crazy, the gravel lot was very full and it seems like people were just making up their own parking spots. First time coming here today and loved it! Came here to pick up a loaf of bread and had to get something else when we came in and saw all the treats they had. Got here around 1pm on a Friday so they didn't have everything but still had a decent amount of pastries and cakes! Ended up getting the mushroom pizza and loved it! It was flavorful and loved the crust. It was $7-8 for a slice but it's a quarter of the pizza so you get your moneys worth! Not pictured but the sourdough we got was yummy as well and not too expensive. We were able to place a pick up order for the bread over the phone. The space is big with lots of seats and the staff is super friendly. I'll definitely come back next time I'm on the island to try some of their sweets! read more

All the baked goods were just fresh and delicious. Probably the best blueberry danish I've ever had. Up the hill, out of the main drag of town, but if you're nearby, it's worth it. The only downside with is that the coffee wasn't stellar, but there's another coffee shop right next-door that might be worth trying. Stop in and pick up some baked goods while you're on Friday Harbor, don't miss it. read more

Perfection! I came off the ferry and stumbled upon this place just by chance. The quality is spot on, the pizza was DELISH, thin, crispy, light on the bottom, soft, cheesy and aromatic on top. During a day trip to San Juan island we stopped at San Juan Bakery for a quick lunch. We had pizzas (pesto margarita, cheese, and mushrooms and onions). All were great. We specially loved the mushroom and onions one! We tried the Apple, pecan and lime tarts. The lime tart was really delicious! We also had coffee (cappuccino and cortado). My husband and I stumbled upon this spot this morning after the original place we wanted to try wasn't open yet and what a happy accident! We got the carrot muffin and another muffin (something with cream cheese) and they were both soooo good - it kind of made our entire trip. The iced coffee was also very good (ask for them to add sugar to your iced coffee and the barista will melt down some sugar-in-the-raw to make on-the-spot simple syrup). And they added some organic half and half for us as well. Very very pleased with this experience- and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating! read more

This was my husband's favorite place on SJI! We ordered a berry scone and a slice of pizza to share and were blown away by the quality and taste of both. The pizza is uniquely delicious- thin crust and crunchy without being hard. I wish we ordered more, everything looked SO good! read more

Built for relaxing over some coffee, bakery goods, or pizza, this place located north of the airport was our stop after biking to the south part of the island. Had some coffee (very good) and a scone. Fabulous place to hang out at the outside tables and see airplanes meander around the runway. read more

One of the best cookies I've ever had. I am talking about the chocolate pecan cookie. It was the perfect chocolate to cookie ratio. Instead of chocolate chips, these were chocolate chunks. I wanted to go back and get more before leaving the island but they were already closed and they're not open on weekends so plan accordingly. read more

First of all, thank you credit goes to fellow Yelp friend, Maria R. for putting Bakery San Juan on my radar screen. I decided to do an all day trip to San Juan Island from Anacortes back on 9/30/20. Pro tips: make reservations for the appropriate round trip ferry rides via the Washington State Ferry system, get a good night sleep, pack some snacks and beverages, fuel up your vehicle, and plan accordingly getting from your destination to Anacortes. I left Shoreline literally before the crack of dawn to catch the first ferry out of Anacortes to Friday Harbor on San Juan Island. So by the time I arrived, I was ravenous. I immediately sought out Bakery San Juan, located by the regional airport, as my first destination. Remember, this is an island, this would take talent to get totally lost, even this directionally challenged Yelper managed to find this island gem. Friendly counter staff. A wide variety of baked goods are available to choose from, although fresh pizzas are available late morning. I did end up revisiting later in the day to have something tasty to eat heading back to the mainland. Selection slightly differs from the morning to later in the afternoon. Items purchased: pain au chocolat, ham and cheese croissant, and pizza slice each of formaggio (cheese) and salsiccia (sausage), plus a butter pecan tart. Fantastic - amazing laminated dough pastries, warm and melty! I enjoyed my breakfast goodies while at Lime Kiln State Park. The pizza slices were handy waiting in the ferry terminal line. My road trip was during off season, most businesses and shops close early by mid afternoon. The butter pecan tart was a great dessert pick me up! Highly recommended! read more

This is one place we had on our agenda from the time we booked our weekend on San Juan. Try the CRUFFIN! I love pastries and visit the best bakery everywhere I go and this might be the best pastry I've ever had! The caprese quiche was also delicious as was the regular old drip coffee. Ordering was a good experience at the register because most of their sauces include anchovies and only the mushroom pizza is vegan/vegetarian. Pastries are great! They ran out of the cinnamon roll and croissant rolls so maybe next time I'll come early. read more

7 Yrs On: The Cinnamon Rolls have held up over many visits. I am so glad to see they have found ways to continue in the face of the plague. Now they have Espresso (dairy and plant milks) - And the drip coffee continues to be excellent. I was almost tempted to try one of the spectacular almond croissants they were pulling off the tray as they opened. (Opening is still well attended!!!!!) But - the cinnamon roll held me. Still fluffy, yeasty & moist, a lovely risen dairy & sweet dough w/ the perfect glaze. But now - looking for a place to pick out wine w/ people who can help you get what you like? Now they have small producer wine and fab local beers. Bakery San Juan can supply you with breakfast... and then lunch (lovely sandwiches on so good fresh bread & The Pizza!) , dessert and quality beverages. Will continue to return! read more

Bakery San Juan is tucked away behind the sweet little airport, in a quiet unassuming wooden building which also neighbors the local co-op. Not hard to find, but easy to miss if you are not a local and are hell bent on flinging yourself around the island at breakneck speed. Ok so, the pizza. (rolls eyes to back of head, umph-um-umm). Can I get an AAA-MEN. This is PIZZA. The crust, a lovely halfway between thin and thick. Just the right balance to hold the ingredients and provide a nice crust. The dough has the right flavor and taste like they have a grinding apparatus somewhere out back. The ingredients...wait a minnit...let me go check around the back for a garden. The ingredients taste soooo fresh. The pizza is so good tht I forget about the baked goods. When I am there scarfing up the pizza, I always pick up a 6-pack. Heh. There is nothing quite possibly as sublime as finding a great pastry while on vacation. There is also something magical about finding a rocky outcropping in the summer's morning sun, near the shores of a great water to enjoy a quiet breakfast. There's something even more special about doing all of this with someone you love, who also treasures this kind of an experience. And then, when all of these other-worldly elements come together, Mother Nature gives a little wink, and sends a big orca whale to that very shoreline to blow water out of its spout, rise, and slap their tail back into the water. This was my experience, and while it goes well beyond pastries, it was indeed enhanced by them. There I was, pulling up to the island on the ferry, in search of a breakfast, and Yelp directed me here. It's just outside of the main part of Friday Harbor proper, so it's not something I think I would have found otherwise. But that means that parking was a breeze. We went in, and saw the menu board first. You should note that not all menu items are available at the same time. The cases hold that which already prepared, and then pay attention to other menu items and what time of day there are available. We got here just after 8am so no lunch was ready. We decided on three items for the two of us; why sample only two? We got a ham and cheese croissant, a pecan tart, and a cheese claw. We resisted the urge to eat right away and instead drove to Lime Kiln State Park and settled in near the lighthouse. We found a sunny rock, sat down, and started digging in. With flaky and sweet baked goods in hand, we watched an orca surface out in front of us, and devoured each of our selections with excited energy. The ham and cheese croissant is a solid win for breakfast. It was warm, salty, sweet, and perfect. The pecan tart was sticky cinnamony, and nutty and made for a great meal topper. But for my money, it's all about that cheese claw. Cheese claw, cheese claw, cheese claw. We tried to show restraint but no sooner had the orca swam out of sight than did we finish our breakfast there on the rocks. It was one of those mornings that, in the dark days of winter or the long days at work, I will close my eyes and revisit in my mind, over and over again. read more

There are certain things you start to believe don't exist on the San Juan islands, one in particular being affordable food that is also delicious. This place finally proved it is possible. To top it all off, we had customer service that went above and beyond. We went in around 10:20 am on a monday wanting two things, key lime pie and pizza by the slice. Upon entering we found out pizza isn't normally made until 11am, and the key lime tarts had not been made yet. The very nice girl at the counter said maybe she could push some things through for us. She asked us what pizzas we were looking at, and checked with the baker, and then said within 10 minutes we could have our wish come true. She also said they would make sure the key lime pies were done before our Ferry time so we could grab one for the road. Since I still wanted something sweet I grabbed an apple tart. It was best to wait about 20 minutes so the crust could soften. So very good, and I don't normally like apple pastries. The filling was an almond paste. The pizzas we picked up were the Caprino fresco, and the La Prima. The Caprino was very light with peppers and fresh basil and arugula. The lemon oil drizzle added a zesty element and the mozzerla blended it altogether. The la Prima really made the artichoke the star, and it was so rich and flavorful. The crust they make for their pizzas is also amazing. Chewy and bubbly, thin, but not limp. It's perfection. Also pizza by the slice is a quarter of a pizza, so the prices they have are super reasonable. Fast forward before we have to catch the ferry, we run in grab our keylime which is ready just like they said...and we order two new pizza's. The potato pizza and the island pepperoni. The potatoe pizza stays away from being bland by encorporting jalapenos and Gorgonzola. The island pepperoni look simple, but is a flavor bomb. The pepperoni has a great spice to it, and the Gorgonzola adds a fun element, while the mozzarella keeps it from being over powering. This place is a true gem on the island, and it also has ample seating and a view of the airport. read more

Parking: Private lot. Pizza is served starting at 11 AM, but we wanted to get going on our hike so we got breakfast goodies around 10:40 AM and came back later for pizza at 2:00 PM. By 10:40 AM, they were already out of cheese claws, almond croissants, and ham and cheese croissants. The menu board is just a teaser of what could have been, so just focus on what's actually available inside the case. They forgot one of our items in the morning, but gave it to us when we returned in the afternoon. If you don't have plans to circle back, double check your order before leaving just in case! Sour Cream Coffee Cake $4: We were intrigued by the sour cream part, but it still tasted like a standard coffee cake. Peanut Butter Cookie $3: A little dry in my opinion. Oatmeal Molasses Cookie $3.25: It's actually oatmeal raisin and I haven't had one of those cookies in forever, so I really enjoyed it. We got another one our second visit. Lemon Tea Bread $6.75: This was my boyfriend's pick to make up for missing out on our first choice pastries. Maybe I'd feel differently if I sat down and had this with a cup of tea, but as a morning pastry on the go I wasn't into it. Banana Bread Loaf $6.25: Another pick by my boyfriend. I generally feel neutral about banana bread in general so I didn't care for it much. Croissant $3.75: It was nice and flakey. Would have loved to try it heated up. Or with almond or ham and cheese. Sigh. If only we had woken up earlier. Island Pepperoni Slice $6.50: The house made pepperoni was interesting. The texture was more similar to sausage but still sliced thin like pepperoni. I don't really like sausage so I'd get regular pepperoni next time. The blend of mozzarella and Gorgonzola cheese was really good. The crust also had a lovely crunch. The pizza slice is heated up when you order, and they sliced it into 2 pieces to fit into the to go basket. Caprino Fresco Slice $6.50: I just tried a bite but didn't really like it due to the red peppers. I was too lazy to pick them off, so let my boyfriend have it all. Roasted Pecan Chocolate Chip $3.50: I think I had bad luck and didn't get any bites with pecan in it. Palmier $2.50: I just tried a bite since I don't usually eat palmiers, but it tasted the same as I remember other palmiers tasting. ***** My Star Ratings: 1 Star - Terrible. Just thinking about it makes me angry. 2 Stars - Meh. Unlikely for me to return. 3 Stars - OK. Open to coming back, but wouldn't go out of my way to. 4 Stars - Yummy! Will definitely return if I haven't already. 5 Stars - AMAZING!!! Would plan my day or even a trip around eating here. read more

This was the highlight of my stay in Friday Harbor. I had the cheese claw and a roasted pecan chocolate chip cookie. I loved the rich cheese claw with the crispy pastry flakes on top. The cookie was delicious too. I really wish I had come here for breakfast so I could have enjoyed it more than once. I also got to try the salsiccia pizza for lunch. It was so flavorful!
