We checked in and put our name on the list and were told to wait outside while a table was being cleaned. Unfortunately, we were forgotten. After noticing that two couples who arrived after us had already been seated, I went back inside to ask about our table. The staff seemed a little irritated by the question, which wasn't a great start to the experience. The waitstaff was very attentive and friendly throughout our meal, which I appreciated. However, it took quite a while for our food to arrive, and when it did, it wasn't very hot. I ordered my eggs over medium, but they came out overdone. From what I observed, the kitchen and counter staff seemed somewhat disorganized, which may have contributed to the long wait and cold food. I've heard mixed reviews about this place, and based on my visit, it seems like your experience may depend on the day. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great either. Staff are friendly and attentive, this is a cute local café for breakfast. On the first day I had a two egg breakfast. I chose the one called "Healthy Start" because when I travel I'd like to have some veggies or fruit on a daily basis to keep a good bowel movement iykyk. Honestly, I was kind of disappointed with the fruit I got. The strawberries were sour, the cantaloupe looked like a 38 year single dad had just pulled an all nighter and then headed for an 8 hour shift, and the pineapple was ok. The over easy eggs were good. They were actually eggy in a good way. You know how sometimes you have an egg and it literally doesn't taste like anything? That was not the case here. The bacon was the best, it was thick-cut yet crispy. And the sourdough was sourdoughing. My partner had the huevos on our first day, he said it was okay. On the second day, I had oatmeal. I don't know why, but when I read the menu, the oatmeal sounded so much exciting. But when I actually got it, it looked kind of boring, just like the one I make at home. It was good and did the work though. My partner had the "today's special," velvet cake toast. He said it was too chocolatey and the portion wasn't that big for the price. I had one bite, and honestly, I was fine with the chocolatey taste. So if you're a chocolate fan, you might want to try it, otherwise skip it. Just-discovered, but now will be one of my San Juan Island go-to's. Awesome egg breakfasts cooked just how you want -- we couldn't even finish our chubby breakfast burrito--- with super service, a funky, rustic, no-frills layout and just great all- around energy inside, and lots of hustle. Three egg scramble came out just the way I like it, and home style potatoes on the side were the perfect complement. We came here for breakfast, and while the food was actually solid: generous portions, well-prepared. Buuuut... the overall experience was frustrating enough that I don't plan to return. We stood at the entrance for quite a while without being greeted or acknowledged. Eventually, we went up to the counter to ask if there was a waitlist. The staff didn't even bother to say hi back. Just took down our name. A group that arrived before us was still waiting, and another group that arrived after us followed our lead by going up to the counter themselves. Because there was no clear system, the first group ended up getting seated last. It all felt disorganized and uncomfortable. After we were seated, it took a long time to get menus, even as groups who came in after us were already being served. It was hard not to notice. After reading other reviews, it seems like many people have had similar experiences, and the owner has a reputation for responding defensively to critical feedback. I understand they may see things differently, but this was my honest experience. Again, the food was good. But service matters, and unfortunately, it just wasn't there. read more

My husband is a delivery driver and this is our go to spot every time in town. Unfortunately after this morning, we may not be coming back. Upon entering the woman of service in the front was rude, unwelcoming and overall very inconvenienced with entry. It took a little over an hour to receive any word or food after ordering when seated, but since the ferry was close by food was taken to go. When sharing the breakfast burrito with my husband, we found two hairs. One being a long black grey rooted straight hair in the eggs & the next a facial hair or small hair within the onion bit. It was really unfortunate and disappointing as we both looked forward to our morning and service & quality were both not there. This was a breakfast place recommended to us by a few people, so we stopped by our first morning there and I think it was very good! I got the chicken fried steak and it comes with eggs and potato hash. The steak was cooked very well, super crispy and juicy. And the gravy on top was excellent as well. Oh my goodness! I went to Rocky Bay Cafe and was blown away! Firstly, it has great vibes and ambience! But of course...one goes into an establishment for the food! I was absolutely not disappointed! The quality and size of the order was astounding and very generous! I had the meat lovers omelette and had them add avocado. It was HUGE filled with bacon, ham, sausage, cheese...it went on and on! Upon a local recommendation, we went to Rocky Bay Café for breakfast. It was busy, but they took our phone number and called when our table was available Thankful it was a gorgeous day so we walked around town just a bit before we were seated. It's not an extravagant place by any means, but the folks working there were just wonderful. Our coffee cup was always filled and the kitchen created a breakfast that was the best we've had on our trip so far! I had the senior egg platter and my husband had the French toast which was supposedly one of their specialties. I got a bite and it was scrumptious. It was a mad dash to this tiny little breakfast joint after we got off the ferry! Boy did we get there just in time as we snagged the last table and people started lining up outside. There were two waitresses and a cook running the whole place, but they were hustling. The place is small, cute, and exactly what you'd expect. We got our coffee quickly which is always appreciated. Their menu had some unique items for sure. We ended up getting the breakfast burrito and the bacon pesto omelet. We enjoyed both! We also ordered a blueberry pancake 'for the table' and this was not good. I've had many pancakes in my day and theirs had a weird chewy texture. TL;DR: We visited today. The food was okay and the prices were reasonable, but the service was very disappointing. We decided to try this place after seeing so many positive reviews. We arrived around 9:30. Although there was a long waitlist, we were told the wait would be about 15 minutes. That sounded too good to be true, but we decided to wait--and to our surprise, we were seated within 10 minutes. Unfortunately, everything went downhill from there. After receiving our menus, we waited about 10 minutes for someone to take our order. No one came, so we flagged someone down and said we were ready. They responded, "Okay, I'll find your server." But after another 10 minutes, still no one came. My husband gently said "excuse me" to someone who looked like she was taking orders, right after she was done with one table. At that point, another woman--possibly the owner or manager--came over and snapped, "Don't you see she's busy? She can only do one thing at a time, and she was taking a complicated order for another table." Her tone was unnecessarily defensive and intimidating which left us a bit surprised. All we had done was say "excuse me." I don't think it's reasonable to wait 20 minutes just to place an order, without even a simple apology. She then walked away angrily. Our server apologized for the delay, and we thanked her and gave our order. The food took a bit longer than expected, and was just okay in taste. Getting the check took far too long as well. I usually don't like when servers hover, but in this case no one checked on us at all--which felt like the opposite extreme. Meanwhile, we noticed another customer--likely someone the staff knew as this angry manager/owner was him hugging before they left--sat down after us, was able to place an order right away, finish their meal, and pay before we could even track someone down to bring us our check. That contrast made our experience feel even worse. Overall, the food was fine and the prices fair, but I would never return because of the attitude and poor service we experienced. read more

Only in Friday Harbor for 2 days. Wanted some pancakes and found this cafe on line. It exceeded our expectations. We ordered the famous corn beef hash (amazing), pancakes (perfectly done), bacon (thick and crisp), French toast ((also perfectly done especially the crust). Service was fast. We were only on the island for two mornings and after our first breakfast at Rocky's we had to return! Service is fast and friendly and to the point, the food will have you coming back again and again! I had the Classic breakfast the first morning and it was spot on. Eggs cooked perfect, toast crispy and hot and with plenty of butter and bacon that was to die for. Hubby had the chicken fried steak and loved it! Not the typical frozen patty, a real meat patty and delicious gravy with perfectly cooked eggs. Next day hubby had the corned beef benedict and I had the crispy chicken wrap. Both were excellent! I was initially disappointed that it wasn't fresh flakes of crab but rather a pre-made crab cake. But it was full of crab (not potato) and very tasty. My friend enjoyed his Benedict too.
