Lychee something lol oops forgot the name
Srey S.

Cute cafe inside a hotel. They have indoor and outdoor seating and tons of kids toys to play with outside so family friendly. I had the breakfast burrito, and ugly donut, and a honey lavender matcha latte for breakfast. The donut was big but a little too doughy and bland in flavor. Tons of sugar on the outside but somehow still lacking in flavor. My kid didn't even finish it and she loves donuts with sugar lol. Breakfast burrito was delicious. Big portion and filling. Like that it came with a side of hot sauce. Oh we also had the kimbap which was not bad but nothing spectacular that I've had at Korean restaurants. The honey lavender matcha was delicious though. Love their technique and the matcha is legit. Came back another day just for another drink. This time I got the strawberry matcha and my husband got the strawberry hojicha latte. Highly recommend both! The hojicha was earthy, smooth and so delicious. Definitely a must try if you're on San Juan Islands.

I did not expect to find quality matcha on the island but my husband found this place. The moment I saw that the matcha was in airtight tins, I knew I'm at the right place. I tried the strawberry matcha latte and I really appreciated that the strawberry syrup was not too sweet. I got to still experience the strawberry flavors without being overpowered by the sweetness. It's crazy that it's better than most of the ones I've had in Seattle. Definitely check it out!

Hidden gem in the local hotel. All the coffee drinks you could want. A variety of breakfast foods, including breakfast burritos, açai bowls and smoothies, plus pastries. Excellent customer service ! Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating . Whenever I'm back on the island, I will be visiting again.

Ugly donuts fresh!

Incredible store. Best matcha on the island and prob in all of Washington. Very rich, and hearty flavor, great quality matcha. The viet coffee cold brew is extremely flavorful, with notes of floral and rich chocolate explode throughout while not being overwhelmed by any flavor, perfectly balanced and just insanely good. The ugly donut is so good as well. Reminds of me donuts in japan, great chew and warmed up for you. 10/10 drinks and desserts. They make all syrups in house as well so also that is a huge plus. San Juan get on your game and go fill this place up for QUALITY coffees, matcha, and sweets. I bet their food is also prob exquisite!

the ugly donut (but the only ugly thing is when me & my boyfriend tears this sh*t up)

My partner & I were on the San Juan's working a wedding last night & another vendor (the videographer) told us to check out this cafe in their hotel before leaving. One of the best missions we made before hopping on the ferry back to Seattle! There was a local couple in front of us that recommended the "ugly donut" & breakfast burrito. Y'all. The DONUT... is SO GOOD. It comes out hot and fresh and dusted with crunchy sugar crystals, soft, light, a little chewy. Reminded us of beignets at Disneyland except a little more rich and greasy but soooooo good! The breakfast burrito was solid too! Both burrito and donut are pretty filling, so it's good to share! Coffee was yummy, though my partner & I prefer dark roasts with deep chocolatey notes (like Cafe Vita or even Starbucks ) versus fruity and floral. A nice change for us though! I got the cold brew w their house Madagascar vanilla syrup & oat milk. My bf got a cortado. Both were also solid. There's a large selection of drinks I'd love to try if we come back to SJI! Shout out to the videographer & local couple for the rec!

Wonderful cafe. They have excellent coffee drinks and excellent food. Everything was carefully prepared and enjoyable. Friendly staff. Beautiful eat-in space that is calm and relaxing. Definitely would come back if we are in the area again.

Lovely space. Good coffee, friendly service, excellent donut. I'm glad Café Medio is filling a void in good pastry over the weekend.

Rocky Bay Cafe - The crispy chicken wrap (add avocado) was absolutely loaded with chicken and bacon! Delicious!

Staff are friendly and attentive, this is a cute local café for breakfast…read more On the first day I had a two egg breakfast. I chose the one called "Healthy Start" because when I travel I'd like to have some veggies or fruit on a daily basis to keep a good bowel movement iykyk. Honestly, I was kind of disappointed with the fruit I got. The strawberries were sour, the cantaloupe looked like a 38 year single dad had just pulled an all nighter and then headed for an 8 hour shift, and the pineapple was ok. The over easy eggs were good. They were actually eggy in a good way. You know how sometimes you have an egg and it literally doesn't taste like anything? That was not the case here. The bacon was the best, it was thick-cut yet crispy. And the sourdough was sourdoughing. My partner had the huevos on our first day, he said it was okay. On the second day, I had oatmeal. I don't know why, but when I read the menu, the oatmeal sounded so much exciting. But when I actually got it, it looked kind of boring, just like the one I make at home. It was good and did the work though. My partner had the "today's special," velvet cake toast. He said it was too chocolatey and the portion wasn't that big for the price. I had one bite, and honestly, I was fine with the chocolatey taste. So if you're a chocolate fan, you might want to try it, otherwise skip it. I guess if I had ordered my usual two egg breakfast, it would probably have been great.

Our party of three visited for lunch at noon on a Thursday. Since we had a reservation, we were seated immediately at a lovely table right by the window. The atmosphere was great, and the staff were incredibly courteous and friendly throughout our meal. We initially thought about starting with some small plates, but we were so eager for seafood that we jumped straight into the entrees. We weren't disappointed: Bouillabaisse: This was our first time trying this dish, and it was the highlight for us. It was incredibly flavorful--exactly what we were craving. Spicy Prawn Mac and Cheese: It definitely lived up to its name! It wasn't "blow-your-head-off" hot, but it had a perfect, noticeable kick that really elevated the dish. Blackened Cod Tacos: These were fantastic. The cod was perfectly prepared and worked so well with the rest of the taco ingredients. We also enjoyed a couple of non-alcoholic drinks that hit the spot, though I'll admit that since I'm writing this a couple of weeks later, I forgot to snag photos or the specific names of the drinks! They also have a really nice patio area if you prefer dining outdoors. Whether you're a seafood lover or just looking for a great meal with a view, this place is a must-visit!

For the nature of the restaurant, we had hoped for our waitress to be more friendly and genuine. However, it felt like they just wanted to fulfill our order and be done. I ordered the South Sound Clams and Snapper Sandwich. Bathing in an umami-packed and rich Thai curry broth, the clams were tender and fresh with a bit of brine. Very good and shareable with one other person. The snapper sandwich wowed me! The bright escovitch and creamy avocado paired wonderfully with the snapper. Every bite was delightful. The house-made potato chips, however, were disappointing. They were thin, not crispy, and sticking to my teeth. If you can, substitute for fries or salad. Despite our subpar service, the delicious, well-priced food and beautiful scenery still make this the perfect date spot.

We were initially planning to head to Madrona Grill for lunch on the recommendation of our hotel…read moreconcierge, but after realizing that their online menu and their actual in restaurant menu is entirely different (and missing what we were planning on ordering), we decided to eat at the Lime Kiln Grill instead. Owned by the same company, this restaurant is a more casual counter-service type of establishment, apparently famous for their donuts, which we of course had to order as well. It was pretty busy at 11AM, but there were plenty of tables both inside and out. The food took around 20 minutes to arrive. Maple Donut ($2.49) - This donut looks better than it eats. It tastes decent enough - both icing and cake base that aren't too sweet, with vanilla flavored dough and a tiny bit of maple flavoring in the icing. The problem is the texture - when I want a really good cake donut, I expect there to be a crust on the outside contributing a bit of a texture difference vs. the soft and fluffy cake interior. This one, on the other hand, is completely soft and fluffy throughout, like it wasn't fried nearly long enough to develop a crust. Either that, or it had been sitting too long in a moist environment? The sign says they make these fresh daily, so it's a bit strange. It's also a bit on the oily side. (3/5) Clam Chowder, Bowl ($10.95) - Good creaminess, a good amount of ingredients mixed into the stew, with skin on red potato, celery, and clam. There's isn't too much clam swirling around, and the clam taste seems to be a little lacking compared to other clam chowders I've eaten. It's definitely more milky in taste than a lot of other chowders. They add a ton of dried herbs that add a bit more complex flavor. It's salty and milky, but otherwise a bit too light on the clam. Still, it's not a bad clam chowder by any means. (4/5) Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwich ($19.95) - This sandwich includes a thinly pounded breast filet, breaded and fried to perfection. While it's white meat, it's surprisingly not dried out and instead is still rather softer in texture and not overcooked. The breading is fried very nicely, being almost cornflake-like in crunch factor. It's applied very evenly and tastes somewhat similar to KFC (texture-wise as well) - not that I've eaten KFC in a while, so I could be wrong! A ton of spices adorn the breading. If this is a frozen, commercial fried chicken patty, I would be very impressed. Lengthwise cut pickles line the bottom bun, which is buttered and toasted well, along with a smattering of fried jalapeno chips. There's a bit of slaw on top, then a bunch of chipotle mayo. It's a little smoky, but not really spicy at all. I do have an issue with the bun - it's a rectangular ciabatta that I don't think goes well with the sandwich. To have good textural contrast, typically fried chicken is paired with a soft and fluffy bun. The ciabatta, on the other hand is a denser and drier bread that doesn't fit as well. Then again, I was not expecting this sandwich to be any good and the quality certainly surprised me. The sandwich comes with some normal commercial thin fries. They are salted heavily, have a good crisp and taste like what a fry should taste. No complaints here. (4/5) I don't think I missed out on anything choosing to eat here instead of Madrona Grill. They serve simple, but satisfying fare. I'm just not sure why they are so famous for their donuts though! Bathrooms - Both larger rooms and individual rooms outside on both sides of the building shared with the other businesses.
