I had the breakfast burrito, and ugly donut, and a honey lavender matcha latte for breakfast. The donut was big but a little too doughy and bland in flavor. Tons of sugar on the outside but somehow still lacking in flavor. My kid didn't even finish it and she loves donuts with sugar lol. Breakfast burrito was delicious. Big portion and filling. Like that it came with a side of hot sauce. Oh we also had the kimbap which was not bad but nothing spectacular that I've had at Korean restaurants. The honey lavender matcha was delicious though. Love their technique and the matcha is legit. Came back another day just for another drink. This time I got the strawberry matcha and my husband got the strawberry hojicha latte. Highly recommend both! The hojicha was earthy, smooth and so delicious. Definitely a must try if you're on San Juan Islands. read more

I did not expect to find quality matcha on the island but my husband found this place. The moment I saw that the matcha was in airtight tins, I knew I'm at the right place. I tried the strawberry matcha latte and I really appreciated that the strawberry syrup was not too sweet. I got to still experience the strawberry flavors without being overpowered by the sweetness. It's crazy that it's better than most of the ones I've had in Seattle. Definitely check it out! read more

Incredible store. Best matcha on the island and prob in all of Washington. Very rich, and hearty flavor, great quality matcha. The viet coffee cold brew is extremely flavorful, with notes of floral and rich chocolate explode throughout while not being overwhelmed by any flavor, perfectly balanced and just insanely good. The ugly donut is so good as well. Reminds of me donuts in japan, great chew and warmed up for you. 10/10 drinks and desserts. They make all syrups in house as well so also that is a huge plus. My partner & I were on the San Juan's working a wedding last night & another vendor (the videographer) told us to check out this cafe in their hotel before leaving. One of the best missions we made before hopping on the ferry back to Seattle! There was a local couple in front of us that recommended the "ugly donut" & breakfast burrito. Y'all. The DONUT... is SO GOOD. It comes out hot and fresh and dusted with crunchy sugar crystals, soft, light, a little chewy. Reminded us of beignets at Disneyland except a little more rich and greasy but soooooo good! The breakfast burrito was solid too! Both burrito and donut are pretty filling, so it's good to share! Coffee was yummy, though my partner & I prefer dark roasts with deep chocolatey notes (like Cafe Vita or even Starbucks ) versus fruity and floral. A nice change for us though! I got the cold brew w their house Madagascar vanilla syrup & oat milk. My bf got a cortado. Both were also solid. There's a large selection of drinks I'd love to try if we come back to SJI! This is my favorite lunch spot in town, and I am here with different friends or family once a week (or more). The menu is small, but the items served are all really delicious. My favorite is the BLAT, but the chicken pesto sandwich is a close second. I love all the light, the spaciousness, and the patio is wonderful in the warmer months. You enter Medio from the Friday Harbor Suites lobby and to the right. The beans they use are great and freshly ground for each cup. I had the pour over hot and iced as well as the cortado (Gibraltar) which were excellent and definitely the best coffee I've had on the island. There is also a lot of indoor and outdoor seating which is great for working remotely and plenty of food options there as well as the surrounding area. I would highly recommend checking out Medio for coffee quality, breakfast burritos, remote working, casual meetings, and outdoor sitting. read more

This place is great. Everything tastes fresh and the coffee is superb! We got the Japanese pour over and Madagascar vanilla latte. Both iced. They were good! Latte was sweeter then I liked but my boyfriend loved it. The flavor was very good. We also got the blue smoothie and avocado toast. Both were very good. The toast was the best i had ever had, great combination of flavors. We also got a ginger cookie which was soft and had a great ginger flavor. The only thing I think they could do better is have their food menu available. I know it is small but it was just be nice to have even if it's just a piece of paper. Otherwise the staff was friendly and the space is large with lots of seating. The space has a nice modern design and decor. It was a great spot! read more

Definitely check out Medio Cafe the next time you are on Friday Harbor!! The staff is very helpful when it comes to answering questions about the menu & they make it a very inviting experience. The food & drinks are high quality and both are made from local fresh ingredients. Let's start with the drinks. I stayed here for almost a week and tried so many different options each delicious with their own unique flair. I recommend the Vietnamese cold brew if you're looking for something on the sweeter side with a nice caffeine kick. I am usually not a fan of black coffee but I wanted to try the Japanese pour over black and WOW!! The sweetness from the beans made it so I didn't need anything in it. It had a citrus sweetness to it and surprisingly became my favorite over the week. Another top drink of mine was the Honey Lavender Iced Latte. I was a little wary when it came to ordering the lavender latte because most places I go to make it overpowering and unpleasant however Medio Cafe has found the perfect ratio and it was an experience for my tastebuds! I have never sang high praise for a lavender beverage and normally encourage people not to order it but this was worth every cent and deserved kudos! My moms favorite drink was the Beet juice, she said it was really refreshing and packed with flavor. Now on to the food. Yes the menu may be limited now but as I was talking to the staff they were saying that they are expanding and trying out different items so while we were there I was able to try everything on the menu which was a burrito, taco salad, and avocado toast. We even got to try the cafes first taco Tuesday dinner special(A must if they are offering it during your stay) I'm from California and so my expectations for a good quality burrito are high and Medio Cafe not only met but exceeded that expectation! That burrito has moved up to one of my favorites! (I had it everyday of my stay) The salsa come in different spice levels and if you can handle it, I recommend you try the hottest one!! It woke me up and had amazing flavor that I am still craving even after leaving. I wish I could have taken a bottle to go! The taco salad, which turned out to be vegan(it was so good I couldn't even tell) was great because it wasn't heavy or greasy and was the perfect amount! The avocado toast is a fresh bite. Each mouthful has complex fresh flavors. It's a great piece of local bread layered with a generous portion of avocado, add in micro greens and pepitas (pumkin seeds) for crunch and a surprising zing from the cabbage. It's delish!! Also I recommend trying the baked goods! While I was there they had a lavender cookie, a spicy cookie and a pig cookie! All 3 were delicious and paired with my drinks perfectly!! They also sell merchandise such as hats and candles and my Mom and I couldn't leave without purchasing the "Pig War Vet" hat it was a must have! Overall my experience at Friday Harbor Suites was amazing and having the Medio Cafe downstairs improved my visit greatly! I can't wait to come back and get more!! read more

The second time I went there to interview a potential employee. The young man working, bless his heart, seemed very frazzled despite the fact that we were only ones there. This cafe has the friendliest staff and really boosted both my moms and my mood in the morning. I had to go to Friday Harbor for a business trip and my mom normally has matcha pretty regularly so I decided to give this cafe a shot because it wasn't here the last time I was on the island. I am so happy I did because this matcha is some of the best we've had outside of Japan. Their staff is also knowledgeable on their products. Choices of great coffee is slim on this island so when Medio opened this summer we were super excited. Amazing coffee, delicious smoothies and some of the best Mexican food ever. We ate here daily. Avocado toasts and burritos are delicious. They make their own tortilla chips - you must to try them. Nachos are addicting. When we were there they launched their home made brioche- said it's for hamburgers but I can just eat them alone. read more

Stumbled into this place after finding good reviews for their coffee on yelp, and so glad that I did. They have it all: Delicious coffee and food made with high quality ingredients and care. Open and airy space, with indoors and outdoors patio seating. Good wifi, and they don't seem to mind if you want to stay and socialize/read/work for awhile. Friendly and warm staff who are eager to please. A little expensive, but that seems to be a recurring theme on the Island. Good music in the background that kept my shazam app busy. The honey lavender latte, japanese cold brew, and avocado toast were particularly delicious. A fellow customer recommended the blue smoothie, vegan salad, and breakfast burrito. I really loved this cafe and ate more than 50% of my meals there during a weekend trip to Friday Harbor.
