Roast beef sandwich with olive tapenade, arugula, thinly sliced beef, tomatoes and mayo/aioli - definitely get this!
    Camie K.

Market Chef is a small shop but with ample natural lighting and open kitchen its ambiance is quite cheerful. A couple of thoughts: - Fast and friendly service - Few tables inside (only 2 tables), so if it rains and if there's no space inside you should order to go - Really fresh ingredients make everything sing - Friday fish tacos are to die for - Roast beef sandwich is savory, even with the dreaded-oh-I-don't-like-olive olive jam - Culinary gems from around the world I was pleasantly shocked they even carry Mexican Monte Xanic wines, normally you'd need to get them in San Diego or cross the border to Valle de Guadalupe! We tried coming back to next day only to find out they're normally closed Sat-Mon. Oh well, if I ever find my way back to San Juan Island I would not hesitate to stop by again!

We took a day trip to Friday Harbor and had three hours on shore. We really wish we had longer, but I digress... We walked around the little city first before making any decisions. Lots of burgers and pizza places. This was a bit more unique than the other options. I don't know what it was, but these were some of the best sandwiches we've ever had. The bread was so super soft! I got a Turkey sandwich, and my husband got the Italian one. They were both excellent. A bit on the smaller side, but it was enough. My husband almost ordered another one because they were so tasty. If we come back to visit, we'll definitely go here!

Italian sandwich with absolutely yummy ingredients!

Great little sandwich bar for lunch! They had a special of fish tacos and I'm sure that's what all the locals came for, but the Italian sandwich was calling to me! Lol. If you by chance get a table on the front porch, you have a view of the water, but we sat in the back and it was just as darling but no water views sandwich was the best I've had in so long! Thank you.

Today's special; Market Griller with ham, gruyere, peppers, and pesto

Friendly staff and wonderful fare. This is the kind of restaurant that you visit on vacation and wish you could recreate what you ate at home but know that you'll never be able to do it. My husband had the chickpea everything salad and we couldn't tell what crunchy deliciousness was on top but it was amazing. Included was a tuna salad-type chickpea mixture, greens, quinoa, carrots, black and regular sesame seeds, and a special dressing. I had a daily special: the Market Griller, a panini-style sandwich with ham, peppers, gruyere, and pesto. Another thing I probably couldn't recreate at home because, let's face it, the ambience, the weather, and the charm of Friday Harbor combined with our food made it a heavenly summer lunch. Order from one window, pick up from another. An third open "door" allows you to see what's in the deli case and order directly from there. We will definitely be back when we visit again!

My favorite place to eat in Friday Harbor, we've been coming for years. Laurie and team do an amazing job, food and service is great and their shop has wonderful gourmet items.

Ate lunch here at the recommendation of a local. Good selection of sandwiches on freshly baked bread with creative names. I had the vegan sandwich with lemon harissa hummus, pickled veggies, red onion, herbs, and shredded beets and carrots. Very good but could have used just a pinch more hummus. Husband had the tuna sandwich which he enjoyed very much. Finished off with fresh out of the oven, huge chocolate chip cookies! Refreshing iced tea with free refills. Inside and outside dining; nice place to have lunch on a sunny day.

We came here for lunch with friends that live on the island. There are many options for salads and sides, soups, and sandwiches. There is also an area offering local goods and products as well as interesting housewares for sale. I stocked up on some Christmas gifts while we waited for our sandwiches. The porch is a perfect spot to people watch and soak up the sun while we ate our lunch. The food is high quality, fresh, healthy, and tasty from scratch with lots of varieties for everyone. Look for the special of the day and soup options.

They were accommodating and, as if they were old friends, were kind and inclusive. The food was unbelievably great in presentation, flavor, and quantity. I have never had a burger (Bacon Jam) with such succulence and combination of flavors. It was an experience all by itself. I had a side order of the onion soup and it was beyond anything I have eaten in knowing I was getting an originally made onion soup from fresh with the best ingredients. Each was a big enough serving, I had some to take home. One of my friends got the mussels in garlic sauce. The waitress made everything a joyful interaction and the chef served the food. My friend got the mussels in an individual cooking pot. What fun! We had a large party for my birthday and the server did a great job of making sure we had everything we could need, including a constant supply of libations. We loved our server, he was awesome and helped make our night. Lots of gf designations on the menu made it easy for me to order, and I was super excited to get to have the crab bisque! It was delicious and I could have just had another helping of that and been satisfied. We also had the crab artichoke dip, which was very good, and shared a filet that was perfectly prepared. The drinks were super cute too, I now have quite the collection of piggies. The only let down was the dessert, we ordered the creme brulee, but it was not bruleed.. just creme. Wasn't very pleasant to eat. Other than that, it was a perfect meal.

A solid performance from the fine dining venue at Roche Harbor Resort…read more THE ROSES: Probably the best thing about McMillin's is the service. From the hostess to the servers, McM's works very hard to ensure customer satisfaction. The staff is professional and gracious. The cuisine rises to its price point. Particularly noteworthy is their expertise at preparing seafood (which is a good thing because the Pacific Northwest is renowned for its seafood). Between my wife and I, our dinner had crab, oysters, scallops, prawns, salmon, and sablefish. All were prepared perfectly - nothing over- or under-cooked (of course the oysters, which were from the bay next door, which were raw and perfectly shucked. We mentioned it was our wedding anniversary, and our thoughtful server passed word of this to the people doing the nightly 'retirement of the colors' ceremony, where the MC mentioned it. That was a real treat. THE THORNS: It's partly because the resort caters to an upscale yachting crowd (which can be a bit boisterous after a few drinks), but the dining room can be a bit loud, particularly if you're seated in the back where the ceiling is lower. Try to avoid a table in this area. Another rather weird hiccup was they forgot to include the salmon that was supposed to be part of my seafood pasta entree. There were plenty of scallops and prawns and some crab, so I honestly didn't mind, because I'm actually indifferent to salmon. I did mention this to the server, and she brought out a small plate of perfectly prepared salmon in sauce. I was actually rather full by then, but the salmon did make for a perfect omelette filling the next day! THE VERDICT: The dinner was not cheap, but very good value for money. As resort area restaurants go, McMillin's Dining Room is actually better than one would normally expect. I heartily recommend this restaurant.

Our party of three visited for lunch at noon on a Thursday. Since we had a reservation, we were seated immediately at a lovely table right by the window. The atmosphere was great, and the staff were incredibly courteous and friendly throughout our meal. We initially thought about starting with some small plates, but we were so eager for seafood that we jumped straight into the entrees. We weren't disappointed: Bouillabaisse: This was our first time trying this dish, and it was the highlight for us. It was incredibly flavorful--exactly what we were craving. Spicy Prawn Mac and Cheese: It definitely lived up to its name! It wasn't "blow-your-head-off" hot, but it had a perfect, noticeable kick that really elevated the dish. Blackened Cod Tacos: These were fantastic. The cod was perfectly prepared and worked so well with the rest of the taco ingredients. We also enjoyed a couple of non-alcoholic drinks that hit the spot, though I'll admit that since I'm writing this a couple of weeks later, I forgot to snag photos or the specific names of the drinks! They also have a really nice patio area if you prefer dining outdoors. Whether you're a seafood lover or just looking for a great meal with a view, this place is a must-visit!

For the nature of the restaurant, we had hoped for our waitress to be more friendly and genuine. However, it felt like they just wanted to fulfill our order and be done. I ordered the South Sound Clams and Snapper Sandwich. Bathing in an umami-packed and rich Thai curry broth, the clams were tender and fresh with a bit of brine. Very good and shareable with one other person. The snapper sandwich wowed me! The bright escovitch and creamy avocado paired wonderfully with the snapper. Every bite was delightful. The house-made potato chips, however, were disappointing. They were thin, not crispy, and sticking to my teeth. If you can, substitute for fries or salad. Despite our subpar service, the delicious, well-priced food and beautiful scenery still make this the perfect date spot.

The ambiance is cozy and warm, feeling like you are invited to dinner at your friends home, if your friend also happens to have an exceptional wine cellar, a farm, and is a wonderful chef. We had wonderful service and we were so grateful for recommendations on how to navigate through the menu! We started with the Spiced Carrots - they were incredibly paired with a salad, cracker, and cheese combo - perfection. For the main course we split the scallops and the filet. Scallops were served with fresh fingerling potatoes and this fresh, citrus/herb forward sauce that was so bright and refreshing (we are still talking about it). The filet was cooked great and served with a Demi glacé that was also just so perfect. the pomme puree was also flavorful and had a lot of amazing flavor on its own!
