This place is a solid 4.5. The food is farm to table and very fresh. We ordered a mushroom pasta dish and pizza. The pasta was fresh and cooked perfectly. The ingredients all very fresh a spot on. The only critique was the seasoning. It could have been slightly better seasoned. However, we added a touch of salt and pepper, and that did the trick. Excellent. The pizza oven is located outside and you can watch the entire pizza (and dough) get made fresh. The pizza was outstanding. We also ordered arancini as an appetizer which was a bit under seasoned but very good (fresh). They are a bit short staffed, so the service is a bit slow, but why be in a rush on San Juan Island? I rarely leave negative reviews, but after two separate experiences, I feel people should know what to expect. I attempted to dine here on two different nights, both arriving well before the posted closing time of 9:00 p.m. The first time I arrived over two hours before closing, and the second time I arrived about an hour before closing. Both times I was abruptly interrupted and told, "We're closed," before I could even say anything. What made the experience even more frustrating was watching people directly in front of me in line be seated without any issue while I was turned away. The restaurant was clearly still serving customers and had plenty of people inside. If the kitchen stops seating early, that's completely understandable, but then post a last seating time or update your business hours accordingly. Don't advertise that you're open until 9:00 p.m. if you're going to refuse customers much earlier, especially while continuing to seat others. The lack of consistency and the rude, dismissive attitude from the staff made this an incredibly disappointing experience. After giving this restaurant two chances, I won't be coming back! Late evening dine. We were on our last night in Friday Harbor and needed food. Nothing good was open and Tenth House had good reviews and was still open for another half hour. We got there and we're promptly seated. Lovely server and service. Food arrived and looked great, first bite and we stopped and looked at each other. The sauce was perfect, the pasta was perfect, my wife's wine was perfect. We switched plates and tried each other's dish. Again perfect. I had the chicken parm and my wife had the bolognese. Very disappointing experience. I arrived at 7:00 PM to have dinner, even though the restaurant's posted closing time on both the door and website was 9:00 PM. The hostess interrupted me before I could even finish asking for a table and told me they were closed. There were still customers eating inside and several tables available. I was on vacation with my friends and we decided to try Tenth House. We were seated immediately and took our seats. We chose a very nice bottle of wine and chatted while we settled in. We started with the Peach and Heirloom Tomato. It was great. Like summertime on a plate. We ordered a bit of flatbread too which was a nice addition. We studied the menu because everything looked so very good. We decided to get four dishes and promised to share, just a bite with each other. Ha. I got the Verde Lasagna which was quite substantial and very tasty. My friends got the Dungeness Crab Alla Chitarra. Fantastic. Lamb Pappardelle Al Ragu that was deeply flavorful and quite rich. I was just a bit envious... My other friend ordered a pizza: The Walla Walla which came out so late we thought they'd forgotten about it altogether. We were all done with our dishes and finally it arrived. I didn't try any but I heard it was good but just a bit underdone. Perhaps because they forgot to make it and rushed. Not a big deal but a small mistake that threw off the rhythm of the meal just a tiny bit. We shared a piece of olive oil cake that was ok. The service was a bit inattentive and we wondered where our server had gone a few times. Atmosphere was nice as it was a perfect summer evening. Upscale but casual. All in all 8/10. First time in San Juan islands for a girls trip over Memorial Day weekend. We grabbed spot at Tenth House and loved every minute of it. Super chill vibe and all the servers are super friendly. We ordered three apps, two entrees and one salad. The pace was great and we enjoyed every bite. We were informed everything is homemade and prep sometimes may take longer than anticipated. Grateful for the heads up but things did not take longer at all. Everything was great and all the plating was beautiful as well. To top it all off enjoying all the good food al fresco was nothing short of amazing! If I'm in the area again, I'll be sure to come again. Next time I hope the pizza oven is fired up. We loved Tenth House. It felt cozy and down to earth, the staff was friendly and thoughtful without being intrusive, and most of all the food was really delicious. Sometimes I find Italian Restaurants to be underwhelming, but we thoroughly enjoyed each dish (the bucatini was so good). We also had the focaccia with their special artichoke dip which also stood out for its freshness. I don't usually leave reviews but felt this place deserves a higher rating! This was the best meal we had on our trip.
