This market is outstanding. Whether you need a special treat for your seaside picnic or some basic essentials, King's has it. The produce is fresh, the selection is proud and prices (though higher than mainland) are very reasonable. Excellent customer service to top it off. Pretty big market in town. There's street parking in front and around the building. Their fresh produce area is smaller than a chain store but they have a good selection. I was able to get everything I needed/wanted. They have a soup bar. I was able to try one soup and it was very delicious. They had a salad bar, fried food are, and a hot food bar with a great condiment section. We came to the market twice and it seems that the hot food bar menu rotates. Also, there's an upstairs that also sells clothes and outdoor items. read more

For such a small town this is a huge market with fabulous offerings. From the outside you don't realize the size of this & the amount of food contained. We bought $10 box lunches that were made to order for a whale watching trip. The coffee and the homemade baked goods in the morning are pretty fabulous as well. A lot of local gourmet items are wrapped beautifully as gifts. A large selection of local beer wine and spirits too. A half a dozen hot homemade soups & prepared gourmet meals easy to reheated. They have stationary items, toiletries and then upstairs with clothing and shoes. This is more than a Market it's truly an enormous country store with friendly helpful staff. read more

I wandered in Kings Market during my day trip back on 9/30/20. Very nice indie market for its sheer arrangement, variety of goods, and decent prices, whether you're an actual resident, seasonal visitor, or day tripper like me. I was debating whether to buy stuff from their deli/prepared food area. I remained indecisive, but I did by a large Pepsi to take along on my ferry ride back to Anacortes. Great location, terrific selection, and friendly staff in the main retail area of Friday Harbor. read more

A great grocery store to stop and pick up some supplies while staying on San Juan Island be it on a boat, camping, staying at a house, or while adventuring for the day. Their to-go/take-and-bake section is amazing! When my parents and I came here in late July 2019 to stock up on supplies/food for our few-day stay on the island we had a hard time deciding what to get because there were so many good choices/options. Still numerous options on my most recent visit on Friday the 22nd of May 2020. I got a Teriyaki Chicken dish to-go that I took to a nearby nature preserve and ate on the beach. The store also has a great produce section. Some of the shopping procedures temporarily changed due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) so if those changes are in effect when you visit make sure to bring a face mask. Also, personal reusable/tote bags have been temporarily prohibited, so adjust accordingly. Friendly workers give this store a warm and welcoming atmosphere. read more

We stopped here off from the ferry to pick up some groceries to take to our Airbnb for the weekend. It is a nice little market. Their produce was actually pretty fresh. We stopped back again to pick up a sandwich for our kayak trek too. The bakery was closed so a sandwich from here worked in a pinch. Friendly people here as well. read more

My friends and I visited Friday Harbor for a wedding on the island, and we didn't do a lot of research because we knew we'd be busy with festivities. Thus, it was very surprising when we saw quite a substantial supermarket on the island. It has your basic variety of produce, which is sufficient and I think a strategic move to reduce food waste. But, seeing that the local population is smaller than the student body of my high school, it might be safe to assume that you're here as a tourist and not a resident. You have your choice of snacks and frozen food, but I think the crown jewel of this supermarket is the alcohol selection. The sheer amount of wine, beer, and spirits here I think outclasses even the urban grocery stores near where I live. Perhaps it's to account for everything here closing before 9pm, but the variety is ripe here and you have a ton to pick from. The spirits in particular also come in many varieties, more than just cheap options that you'd see in well drinks. In short, if you're staying the night in Friday Harbor- this place is where you're building your itinerary. read more

While wandering around aimlessly through town awaiting the ferry, I noticed King's market and figured I'd go in to buy some produce I'll need when I get home to the mainland. Yes, many reviews mention their higher than average prices, but it seemed like the convenient thing to do. This tiny but efficient full service grocery store really packs a lot into a small space. It's not laid out like a traditional supermarket, in fact I had a little bit of trouble finding the produce section which was all the way in the back of the store. Still, I was pleasantly surprised to find a beautiful array of fresh vegetables, fruit, and even organic produce. After finding the things I needed, I checked out the rest of the store because it is just so clean and cute in there. They have a deli, with a salad bar & hot bar, and one of the largest selections of gourmet cheeses I've ever seen in any grocery store. They also have a very good wine selection, and I saw several options in the $10 and less range. Checkout was fast, friendly, and efficient. In a town where employees often move a lot slower than we mainlanders are accustomed to, the lady who checked me out was very quick. They even had someone to bag my groceries for me. Which is always appreciated. It's nice to know, when I find myself here in the future, that there is a great store like this where I could find anything that I needed or maybe forgot to bring from home. As a bonus, they are connected to another shop that sells marine supplies, souvenirs, and even Seahawks gear! read more

If you can't find parking in the front, just park around back. This is a great little country grocery store! I think it's perfect! There's a little bit of everything and a lot more than I thought they would have. The employees are always nice and friendly. I really appreciate it. Even if you don't need anything, it's worth stopping in and browsing to see what they have in stock. read more

When you go to the San Juan Islands, there's only one grocery store n the area by the port. This placed is packed d full of everything you need. You can get everything from premade foods to everything you need to make a meal. Convenient and large! read more

This place had what you need for cooking however if you are looking for a deli; this place is awful. The deli closed half an hour before the store closes and even if the staff is there they wont help you. Also; the items look absolutely dreadful. read more

So King's Market has a clearly captive group of patrons....there may be 3 total grocery stores on Friday Harbor Island. Of the perhaps 6 times I have been to this market over 10 years, staff has been consistently polite and helpful. The service is truly 5 star, and that is extremely appreciated. Stock is actually quite good, fresh fruits and vegetables are competitive with the mainland, meats and fish are top quality. Beer, wine and liquor represents an excellent cross section. Price is where it all falls down, while offering top quality product, cost is quite high. Understandable? Absolutely, .....but it just chaps the ass off someone who owns property on the Island vs a tourist.....we live(d) here and it was not cost effective to shop here, so we brought as much from the areas surrounding the ferry landing at Anacortes as possible, and are not alone, as many full-time residents do the same, sometimes even making a special trip on the ferry with car to make a Costco run. Being fair, that is the reality of island life, and King's does provide a much valued service. While I may (legitimately) gripe, without King's Market on Friday Harbor, there would be a lot more to complain about. read more

Stop #4 - A Perfect Summer Day on San Juan Island This is a good place to get picnic supplies for the non-oyster lovers. The salads at the deli counter were pretty good. It doesn't look like much from the outside but the inside looks like Whole Foods. Unfortunately, it is as expensive as whole foods. read more

what more could you want from a place that has withstood the test of time and provides consistent service and variety to both locals and visitors alike? king's has been around forever--i literally remember coming here to shop as a child when we'd be sailing around the san juans. now i'm an adult and come up on occasion to enjoy the rustic peacefulness of the islands. i can be assured i can grab that one item i'm missing or walk in and find something i didn't even know i needed! the upstairs area can be dangerous in that regard but it's worth a look see. they've got some nice pendleton stuff like towels! downstairs, the grocery and produce sections are more than adequate but may harken back to a different era if you're coming from off-island and more accustomed to upscale food places like whole foods and community coops. that doesn't at all mean there's anything wrong with king's; it just feels more home town and local and it's a welcome change from being in the big city. thanks, king's for being that dependable constant in friday harbor! in a easily changing and unpredictable world, i'm happy to see you're still going strong! read more

Great and unexpected market. Since we were coming to the island and wanted to get a special item for a recipe, I emailed them in advance to make sure they had it. They were very prompt and of course carried the item. But what I am really Yelping about is Harry in the produce department. I was asking about apples and he pulled out his knife, let us sample and gave us a great education on apples. He has an amazing background in apples. Worth it to stop in an say hi to Harry! On the outside of this centrally located store, this place looks like any other sleepy small town market (or those that are left). On the inside, it's a fairly large, well lit and friendly space with a fully stocked and well organized selection of various foods. This all probably cater wells to the various island customers. And when you are one of the few games in this island town, bargains are a little harder to find. I was particularly impressed with the wine and cheese selections and the deli. This grocery store is central to downtown - a very easy walk from the ferry terminal. The dry goods (crackers, cake mix, pasta) are priced a high, but it IS an island. Things cost a bit more when you ferry them over. The reason to come here is the prepared foods section - the salads, sandwiches, casseroles, and soups. The soups are all made on-site and they're SO GOOD! The bakery makes really tasty donuts too. For $4.29 you can get a soup and a half sandwhich - which is a really great deal! The store doesn't open until 7:30AM, which is a bit late to get coffee in the morning. Otherwise I'd definitely pick up breakfast here! read more

Per our tour guide King's is "the most expensive grocery store in the united states". We found that out when 8 slices of cheese cost us $8 and a package of tortillas was $6. But it's right on main street and has the basic necessities when they are needed! read more

Good market in a great location in town. Prices are high, but it's pretty much the only grocery store in town, so you pretty much have to deal with it! The have a big produce section, huge wine and beer selection, and a pretty expansive selection of fresh seafood. They have a case with amazing looking cakes. They also have tasty donuts - I had a buttermilk one and it was very good. I will say that, while they have an large selection of items, many of them were out of stock. We were looking for small single-serving containers of juice to go with our morning breakfast and most of the rows were empty. I ended up getting milk, while my boyfriend opted to buy a larger container of juice so he could have a type he actually wanted. Employees are helpful and friendly and the lines move fairly quickly. My boyfriend was bummed they no longer have their huge jelly belly self-serve selection like they did when he was younger. But he also mentioned that the store itself seems to be a bit smaller, so it's possible that they just remodeled and had to remove some items. He also noted it had been years since he had been to that store, but that he had been looking forward to getting jelly beans! read more

There are not a lot of grocery options on San Juan Island. The Kings Market fits a whole lot of product into the space they have. Friendly staff, convenient location, and not a lot of competition make this the place to shop for groceries at Friday Harbor. read more

This was my grocery store when I was living here. The location is good and I like that it is fairly small. SJ is expensive in general so not much to be done about that. This store does donate to the community and the staff was always nice read more

They call themselves "your favorite market", and honesty, this town is so small it's the only market I could find. It's easy to be the favorite, when you're all I have to chose from! They charged me $2 for a travel-size face wash (is that what this stuff is going for these days?!) and oddly, $1.50 for the playing cards. I guess it's a supply-demand thing, on an island that is economically dependent upon tourism. read more

The little market is easy to miss since doesn't look like a typical market from the outside. When inside, it is MUCH bigger than it appears to be from the outside. I really appreciated the selection of groceries since there was also many offerings that were GMO-free and offered many health brand options. It seemed like there was something for every type of person. The staff was also very friendly and knowledgeable. Not that there are many options of grocery stores in Friday Harbor, but if there were, I'd recommend this one over the others ;) read more
