Friday Harbor Seafood, right on the dock!
    Amber E.

We stopped in for some fresh seafood for a picnic. We were hoping to get smoked salmon, but they were out, so tried the smoked salmon collar instead. It was ok, but a bit oily, and pricey for collar at $33/lb. We got some cooked spot prawns which were our favorite. Wasn't really a fan of the smoked scallops. Heard from folks on the dock that the shrimp cocktail is great, too. Definitely a cool spot on the dock to pick up some local seafood.

Please don't support a place that is racist if you don't believe you are one. We experienced extreme racism here. We visited this place two times in a row, first day just to window shop where there were people picking their own crabs. For the second time, There were white people right in front of us who the lady here was so friendly to saying "Oh I made these smoked salmon this morning". When it's our turn we asked if we could picked our own crabs, she said no really rudely, and asked in an extremely loud screaming voice as if we were beggars "Do you still want these or not". We opened the bag and she picked dead crabs for us. There should be no place for racism and please act accordingly so you don't support this behavior.

My boyfriend and I wandered into Friday Harbor Seafoods while walking along the piers in the marina. We didn't buy anything, but we had a great time checking out the live crab and shrimp and oohing and ahhing over the fabulous looking seafood in the refrigerator case. They have interesting canned foods and other grocery items as well - marinades, rubs, etc. If we were looking to cook up some seafood on our trip, this would definitely have been the place to go!

Fresh and plentiful seafood, if a little expensive. It was hard to find!! Go to the Marina and out onto the dock, then keep going. Then keep going some more!

    Dungeness crabs

(4/16/2015) We were sightseeing around the port of Friday Harbor, came across the seafood market. They were working on picking Dungeness crabs for the cocktails. We got 1 cooked crab to go, just to try (we're from the East Coast). They cracked the legs and cleaned the body for us and bagged it up, just right for a picnic later. Also got a pound of smoked oysters from Taylor Shellfish Farm. It was all touch pricey (be a couple of dollars per pound), must be the overhead, Popeye came up for a visit while we were there and hung out until we left. Overall, we had a good customer service and experience.

Thank you Brenda and team for the beautiful, tasty crab! They arrived well packaged and cleaned! Our party was a success.

There's a decent clip of parking out front, but fair warning - you do have to walk from the car to get to the front. Despite not having a reservation they made it work - hooray! We ordered a dozen of the little olys (only oyster local to WA state), the special salad they had that day, and the bread with sardines and salmon spread. We also got a grilled oyster sampler platter. For drinks, missus ordered the lemonade and I ordered an Arnold Palmer. The bread and oysters came super fast - like within 10 min of us ordering. The panzanella salad ($20 special) was the highlight for missus and myself. For oysters, the little olys were disappointing, salmon dip was really good, as were the anchovies (we got more bread too). We also ordered a half dozen oysters of the high beach sweets since everything was awesome so far. The service staff here are excellent. They checked on us often, cleared plates when things got full, and never over pressured for ordering or timing. We basically finished ordering and eating within an hour. The ambiance is incredible - you have a beautiful water view. If you don't like views, don't come here! The only downside here is the price (which makes sense). Everything priced on its own felt reasonable, but altogether the portion sizing (Olys were a good example) is a bit small, as was the panzanella salad (which makes sense, but also for $20...?). The high beach sweet oysters were definitely better value - for size and cost reasons. Overall a great meal, decent vibes, and a nice view.

I did like the grilled oysters a bit more than the raw ones, my favorite out of the three was the Chipotle bourbon, it was sweet and tangy and the flavor meshed well with the grilled oyster. The main problem with this place is it's quite expensive, ~$2.5/raw oyster, $4.5/grilled oyster, and $1.5/clam for the clam bowl. The ambiance was great, the views of the water were nice. Service was also fine, if you get the DIY shuck oysters they give you a demo which is great. 4.6/5

We're happy we dined here while we staying on Orcas Island! This is truly a watering hole. The restaurant gets busy with hungry visiting and local diners. They're family friendly and dog friendly! There's a couple spots on their property--one being their fish market and deli the other being the place to order food! Seating is first come first serve at their communal tables and all outdoors. The workers work hard and do their best juggling lots of hungry customers. Everyone who helped us was kind and sweet! They have a variety of foods to please all tastebuds. Along with seafood they have BBQ, kid friendly options, and specials. For dinner I had the Spicy Halibut Sandwich but grilled instead of fried. The fish was delicious and everything was fresh and filling. My family enjoyed their chowder and oysters. We also shared a Strawberry Rhubarb Pie which was a slice of heaven--sweet, tangy, and divine! I can see why this is a popular place! If you find yourself on Orcas Island, Buck Bay Shellfish Farm is a must visit! Great seafood and a great ambiance. Located…read moreright on Friday Harbor, this place is definitely appealing for its location and view of the water. The restaurant is open seating, and you order at the bar. I thought the staff were all very friendly! A lot of them were actually students from Thailand, so it was really interesting getting to know and chat with them! They provided a few great tips for the area and things to do. Regarding the food, my family and I shared a few items. We shared the captain's platter, which included fried fish, scallops, prawns, calamari, and clams, as well as the rockfish, a few grilled oysters, and clam chowder. I'd say the fried platter and clam chowder were on the more underwhelming side. I think for a location that takes pride in their seafood it seemed a bit more run of the mill for me. I did however love the grilled oysters and rockfish! May consider coming back just for the oysters and view, but there are other businesses on the harbor I'd like to check out as well.

This place has prime waterfront real estate and incredible potential, but the experience felt more like an overpriced roadside burger stand than a destination restaurant. Just feels like there is no attention to detail. Unfortunately, I wouldn't return. The view could be beautiful, but the rooftop seating sits low to the ground so unless you are sitting at the bar like seats on the rail you won't see much of the view. Tall tables and chairs would fix this issue immediately so all tables have a great view. In addition, tables outside the small covered area don't have umbrellas, making it uncomfortably hot on a sunny day. That's such an easy improvement to make. Had there been shade, we would have happily stayed longer and ordered another round of drinks instead of leaving because we were sweating in the direct sun. The food was underwhelming, greasy, and overpriced. One friend ordered the shrimp appetizer, which came with only five shrimp for $15. Another disappointment was the bottled ranch served with the fries. For a restaurant charging these prices, I expect house made basics like ranch. It's a small detail, but it often says a lot about the overall approach to the food. The menu felt geared toward quick, easy fried food rather than dishes made with much care or creativity. One friend enjoyed his burger but described it as simply "okay" not memorable or worth the price. It also seemed fairly small for what they charged. We ate at several restaurants during our weekend on the island, and this was the only one where the prices didn't match the quality of the food and service. The location is fantastic but this place missed the mark for us.

Our party of three visited for lunch at noon on a Thursday. Since we had a reservation, we were seated immediately at a lovely table right by the window. The atmosphere was great, and the staff were incredibly courteous and friendly throughout our meal. We initially thought about starting with some small plates, but we were so eager for seafood that we jumped straight into the entrees. We weren't disappointed: Bouillabaisse: This was our first time trying this dish, and it was the highlight for us. It was incredibly flavorful--exactly what we were craving. Spicy Prawn Mac and Cheese: It definitely lived up to its name! It wasn't "blow-your-head-off" hot, but it had a perfect, noticeable kick that really elevated the dish. Blackened Cod Tacos: These were fantastic. The cod was perfectly prepared and worked so well with the rest of the taco ingredients. We also enjoyed a couple of non-alcoholic drinks that hit the spot, though I'll admit that since I'm writing this a couple of weeks later, I forgot to snag photos or the specific names of the drinks! They also have a really nice patio area if you prefer dining outdoors. Whether you're a seafood lover or just looking for a great meal with a view, this place is a must-visit!
