Best smoked salmon we've ever tasted! The new owners/family are so delightful and knowledgeable. We stopped in for some fresh seafood for a picnic. We were hoping to get smoked salmon, but they were out, so tried the smoked salmon collar instead. It was ok, but a bit oily, and pricey for collar at $33/lb. We got some cooked spot prawns which were our favorite. Wasn't really a fan of the smoked scallops. Heard from folks on the dock that the shrimp cocktail is great, too. Definitely a cool spot on the dock to pick up some local seafood. read more

Please don't support a place that is racist if you don't believe you are one. We experienced extreme racism here. We visited this place two times in a row, first day just to window shop where there were people picking their own crabs. For the second time, There were white people right in front of us who the lady here was so friendly to saying "Oh I made these smoked salmon this morning". When it's our turn we asked if we could picked our own crabs, she said no really rudely, and asked in an extremely loud screaming voice as if we were beggars "Do you still want these or not". We opened the bag and she picked dead crabs for us. There should be no place for racism and please act accordingly so you don't support this behavior. read more

What a shame. New ownership but nothing like it was. We regularly made the trip from Bellingham just for the smoked salmon, best in the Northwest! When I questioned the look and packaging, the owner told me "Same recipe but much better, the previously owner used farmed fish but his was now only wild" Well, definitely not the same recipe and if anything was farmed, it's what they are now selling. $30 worth and after two bites, it went in the garbage. Really tough, way to salty and terrible flavor. The woman helping was pleasant though. Oh well, I guess nothing stays the same. read more

Freshest seafood around! We bought three crab that they cooked and cleaned while we waited. Service was cheerful and kind and the crab was delicious. We sampled the smoked salmon and it was the best I've ever had; tender with just the right amount of smoke. I'm a smoked salmon fan and I know good smoked salmon and this was the best. My boyfriend and I wandered into Friday Harbor Seafoods while walking along the piers in the marina. We didn't buy anything, but we had a great time checking out the live crab and shrimp and oohing and ahhing over the fabulous looking seafood in the refrigerator case. They have interesting canned foods and other grocery items as well - marinades, rubs, etc. If we were looking to cook up some seafood on our trip, this would definitely have been the place to go! read more

A long walk down a short pier is Friday Harbor Seafood. They had a nice selection of fresh seafood and were very helpful. We selected Ahi tuna steaks that were sushi grade. Since we had a long drive to our resort, the lady that helped us packed them in ice. If looking for fresh seafood, this is your place. read more

We visited Friday Harbor Seafood on Monday, June 21st. Some of the best smoked salmon we have EVER had. Great service, plenty of selection. There is a clear sign on the crab tanks for customers to allow the staff to pick up the live crabs, with tongs, before purchase. And for good reason - they are alive... with huge claws! The woman helping us was informed, courteous and completely pleasant. Can't wait to go back. read more

After waiting for the seafood shop to open so we could buy seafood we realized that the older "seahag" of a owner doesn't deserve our money or yours. Trust me when I say the worst service I've ever had was here. After purchasing smoked salmon and a crab cocktail the day befor and listening to her rant about the city not lowing her another sign I would offer her this business advice. While I was on San Juan Island, I rented a house with a full kitchen. After walking around Roche Harbor, we saw this seafood stand on the docks. Although the selection was limited, they did have some fresh (live) seafood to buy. We got: Manila clams: these were nice and sweet (sauteed in garlic and butter). Live spot prawns ($14 a pound): these were very reasonably priced (I normally see them for around $20 a pound in Seattle or Vancouver). Just boil them and add some seasoning or soy sauce: very sweet (wish I got more than a pound, definitely). If you are renting a house, save some money by getting some fresh seafood and cooking it yourself. read more

(4/16/2015) We were sightseeing around the port of Friday Harbor, came across the seafood market. They were working on picking Dungeness crabs for the cocktails. We got 1 cooked crab to go, just to try (we're from the East Coast). They cracked the legs and cleaned the body for us and bagged it up, just right for a picnic later. Also got a pound of smoked oysters from Taylor Shellfish Farm. It was all touch pricey (be a couple of dollars per pound), must be the overhead, Popeye came up for a visit while we were there and hung out until we left. Overall, we had a good customer service and experience. read more

Just ate a cooked crab that I purchased 30 minutes ago, extremely dissatisfied. It was obviously frozen due to all the liquid that came out of it and most ofthe meat was mush . Barely any meat in the body and maybe 3 solid pieces of meat from the legs. If I lived closer I would've driven back and demanded a refund!! I will NEVER go there again or reccomend to anyone. This retail seafood store is located out on the Friday Harbor municipal docks, which are located just northwest of the Washington State ferry dock. To get there, look for the seal statue in Circle Park, and head down the nearby ramp to the dock. The small building is on your left, about a third of the way down the dock, at water level. They have a decent but not huge selection of seafood, including big tanks of live shrimp and Dungeness crabs. We just happened to run across this place, but then got all the advice we needed for buying, transporting, and preparing our Dungies, and had an excellent dinner at home, saving about $50 by doing it ourselves compared to buying them at a restaurant. Plus, when you see your crab plucked live from the tank, and then you place that same crab in a pot of boiling water, you do a rather better job of appreciating that animals have to die for us to eat them. There is a small selection of prepared foods and seafood-related grocery items, so you could definitely stop here for a few nicer things to put a picnic together. read more

Stopped in for some crab and the woman working was abrupt and impatient. It was the end of the day and I watched her take the American flag hanging outside down and DRAG it on the ground and then commented that her arms are tired at the end of the day. We were curious about first day of crab season and looking to buy some fish but we were turned off by her demeanor. This business is in the harbor and prime real estate presents a fortunate business advantage for them but we walked away feeling unsatisfied and certain that this is not a person we want to give business to. You'll find the quaint little floating market, Friday Harbor Seafood, next to the main dock in Friday Harbor's Marina - just look for the flower pots at the bottom of the ramp. Friday Harbor Seafood is a fish market featuring fresh, northwest and Alaskan caught, seafood. You can get your dungeness crab either live or pre-cooked. The same is true of the fabulous local spot prawns. Fresh salmon, black cod and other regional seafood, both smoked and fresh can be purchased here. If they have it in stock, try the Indian candy - it's a type of smoked salmon I've never seen elsewhere and it is oh-so-good! If you are really lucky you may get to meet Pop-eye, a harbor sea, who hangs out around the fish market for fairly obvious reasons. She is blind in one eye, thus the name. If you're going to be in a tourist town with a seafood stand 10 feet away from popeye, the prized seal, you could change your attitude to not take joy away from kids and their parents. I had one of the best meals of my life here! A friend and I were on a whale watching trip out of Port Townsend in early May 2009, and stopped at Friday Harbor for lunch. The boat captain recommended a number of restaurants in town, but I had heard about this fish market right on the docks, so he led to what he "thought" was the place. The couple who owns Friday Harbor Seafoods were very helpful when we explained we wanted lunch, and for $20, we snagged 2 smoked scallops, 2 Kumamoto oysters, and one whole, cooked and cleaned Dungeness crab. The flavors of everything were perfect due to the perfect freshness, and the fact that we dined on a picnic table in the park overlooking the water just enhanced the experience. Sure, it's rustic, but who needs white tablecloths when you can have seafood just hours out of the water? I strongly recommend the seafood and service available from Friday Harbor Seafoods. We arrived at the marina and after settling in and went to buy fish from the seafood store on the dock. The woman who was working the counter (long grey hair) was surly and rude. We bought a pound of King salmon and she wrapped it up. Unfortunately we didn't ask to see it. It was the tail! And we paid $20.95 a pound when just one block up at Kings Market , fresh King salmon was $9.95 a pound... So do your homework! read more
